From BWOG, Columbia Student News:

Nimesh Patel Stand-Up Routine Cut Short Due To Uncomfortable Jokes

Written by SARAH BRANER

November 30, 201811:36 pmimg 7 Comments

Nimesh Patel, a comedian known for being the first Indian-American writer for Saturday Night Live, had his stand-up routine at cultureSHOCK cut short earlier tonight due to uncomfortable jokes. cultureSHOCK, an event hosted by the Asian American Alliance, is a charity performance showcase that aims to provide a space to celebrate Asian American expression. Patel was one of the main events promoted beforehand.

However, his jokes quickly progressed to uncomfortable territory, including one about a gay black man who lives in his neighborhood and how “[I]t made me realize that being gay is definitely not a choice because no one wants to be gay and black.” The tension in the room increased as Patel told more jokes in this vein until organizers of the event went up on stage to stop him, citing a change in program plans.

Patel questioned why this was happening. The organizers replied that the person in charge of tech had to leave early, but Patel continued to claim that he was being cut off because the audience didn’t like his jokes. At one point, one organizer told Patel he was being disrespectful.

When asked for closing remarks, Patel responded: “I’m a generation older than all of you I know comedy,” and called the organizers incorrect in ending his set. He tried to continue speaking until his mic was cut.

From the Columbia Spectator:

… Patel joked that being gay cannot be a choice because “no one looks in the mirror and thinks, ‘this black thing is too easy, let me just add another thing to it.’” …

… cultureSHOCK, an annual charity showcase featuring a fashion show, productions by various student groups and a famous performer, aims to provide a platform for Asian American artistic expression and breakthrough harmful stereotypes.

… Adam Warren, CC ‘22, was in the audience Friday night. Warren said that AAA made the right decision to remove Patel from the stage due to the nature of his jokes, which contradicted the sensitive nature of the event itself. …

For Sofia Jao, BC ‘22, problems with the performance resided not in the set, but with Patel’s closing remarks.

“I really dislike when people who are older say that our generation needs to be exposed to the real world. Obviously the world is not a safe space but just accepting that it’s not and continuing to perpetuate the un-safeness of it… is saying that it can’t be changed,” said Jao. “When older generations say you need to stop being so sensitive, it’s like undermining what our generation is trying to do in accepting others and making it safer.”

Women’s affairs secretary wants legislation to ban rewarding women for their sexual and physical appeal

    https://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/move-under-way-to-ban-beauty-pageants/

A Oaxaca politician is looking for support from state lawmakers in a bid to ban beauty pageants in the state.

“The Women’s Affairs Secretariat joins the voices that demand a ban on beauty pageants in Oaxaca, [events] that objectify women, especially girls and teenagers,” Women’s Affairs Secretary Ana Vázquez Colmenares said.

Vázquez explained that the “objectification” to which women are subjected to in such events doesn’t allow them to assume a full role in society, limiting them to becoming an object of pleasure.

Legislation is required to prohibit granting prizes to the women with the most sexual and physical appeal, a parameter that should not be used to measure a woman’s worth, much less that of a girl, she said.

Vázquez’s proposal also calls for sanctions that range from fines and reprimands to charges of human trafficking.

The initiative is part of a broader plan designed to ensure respect for gender equality after a gender alert was issued for the state in early September.

The gender alert mechanism was created in 2007 and is described by the federal government as “a set of emergency government actions to confront and eradicate violence” against women.

The Oaxaca Women’s Affairs Secretariat also intends to install offices in the 570 municipalities of the state, with special attention to those governed by ancestral indigenous customs and traditions, a form of government known as usos y costumbres.

There have been a handful of them around over the last decade, though none of them seem to have broken into the big time. Kal Penn (Harold and Kumar) Asif Mandvi (The Colbert Report), Aziz Ansari, Hasan Minhaj and the Canadian Russell Peters come to mind. I understand Russell Peters makes a lot of money touring overseas.

South Asians, like African-Americans, have expressive faces. There are a few East Asian comedians around, too, but seem to be less successful. I recall a Chinese-American colleague once complained to me at work that an Indian co-worker got a promotion because “they have the gift of the gab.” Maybe there’s something to that. But nowhere near as much as the Jewish gift of the gab, or Irish, for that matter, IMHO.

East Asians have that whole agreeable, rice farmer nature. Comedy seems to attract intelligent assholes, the essence of which is both intelligence to create the jokes and the disagreeability to make them. As such it is the domain of males, especially white, Jewish, and black.

Jews in particular, verbally facile, intelligent, with a culture of argument, they were born to do comedy. You might expect that there would be more Jewish guys at the top end of comedy but there are at least as many goys it seems.

This ‘golden age’ of British comedy was most likely down to the legacy of the old-time Music Hall performers – tough, hardbitten cynical characters – who had to live on their wits in order to survive. As the old joke had it, many a comedian died, on stage, at the Glasgow Empire, at the hands of even tougher hard bitten cyncics who took to comic-baiting as a blood-sport. Only if a comic was funny enough to crack a smile on the granite faces of the hairy arsed shipyard workers and dockers would he be given a stay of execution. It was, literally, a case of beheading the Jester if he got stale.

Add to the fact that this particular generation of ‘comedy greats’ more or less grew up in the rough tough Britain of the 1930s, WW2 and post war rationing and austerity.

The result was a certain type of hard boiled hardfaced cynic, ever ready to prick pomposity and to ‘cock a snook’.

  66. Anon[425] • Disclaimer says:

In some way, PC is saving comedy.

Comedy reached its greatest heights as a subversive form of expression. Oscar Wilde would have been pointless in a permissive society. Comedy always had to be risque. Lenny Bruce got a lot of mileage out of it.

And then, there was total freedom for comedians to be as outrageous as possible. It was funny for awhile but got pointless because all taboos were broken. People could use F-words and talk about graphic sexual details. No one was taking risks anymore. So, comedians could compete by getting grosser and more putrid. But even that got boring.

But now, PC is really creating a climate of repression, and so comedy can be risque again. But what is esp funny is PC considers itself to be risque and subversive. Edgy. So, its rationale for repression of individual liberty is to preserve ‘radical’ freedom. It’s like a blade that has to be perpetually sheathed to prevent blunting or breaking. It defeats its own purpose. A knife is meant to cut, but what happens when it is always sheathed to protect its sharpness? It no longer functions as a knife. The radicals once took pride in being edgy, but that edginess has been institutionalized. Everything institutionalized must be protected and preserved. So, PC’s radicalism has become in name only. It is a protected blade that is afraid to be drawn to duel.

But this provides opportunity for comedians to subvert the power again.

“One of Chavez’s final acts, ordered last month from his hospital bed, was to cut the price of the national currency by a third—the seventh devaluation of his presidency—in an attempt to narrow a staggering deficit with a hike in the cost of living for Venezuelans. He died yesterday at the age of 58, leaving behind a nation struggling with shortages of housing, food, goods, and electricity, along with high inflation and rampant crime.”

With “demographic changes”, how much longer will it be before an incompetent like Alexandria Cortez comes to power and enforces diversity quotas for the tech industry, sending it to China? If I were the management of IBM, I’d be thinking of back up plans for moving elsewhere just in case; and if I were Xi, I’d be making similar plans for welcoming Western tech companies.

Frankly, it strikes me as just incredible that supposedly educated people in the US couldn’t or wouldn’t see common sense staring them in the face before reality hit them head on. I guess this justifies the old saying that “history repeats itself; first as tragedy, then as farce” – except replace ‘history’ with democracy and Athens with America.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/03/opinion/male-female-brains-mosaic.html

“In 2015, one of us, Daphna Joel, led an analysis of four large data sets of brain scans, and found that the sex differences you see overall between men’s and women’s brains aren’t neatly and consistently seen in individual brains. In other words, humans generally don’t have brains with mostly or exclusively “female-typical” features or “male-typical” features. Instead, what’s most common in both females and males are brains with “mosaics” of features, some of them more common in males and some more common in females.

Daphna Joel and colleagues then applied the same kind of analysis to large data sets of psychological variables, to ask: Do sex differences in personality characteristics, attitudes, preferences, and behaviors add up in a consistent way to create two types of humans, each with its own set of psychological features? The answer, again, was no: As for brain structure, the differences created mosaics of feminine and masculine personality traits, attitudes, interests, and behaviors. ”

Only the other day researchers claimed that AI can distinguish with 93% accuracy between male and female brains, although I see the brains all belonged to prisoners. I bet if you took 1400 random prisoners from US jails, and without scanning their brains said “they are all male” you’d be right 93% of the time. Alas the complete methodology is behing a paywall.

    https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/hbm.24462

“Models using components of brain gray matter volume and concentration were able to differentiate between males and females with greater than 93% generalizable accuracy. Highly differentiated components include orbitofrontal and frontopolar regions, proportionally larger in females, and anterior medial temporal regions proportionally larger in males. We also provide a complimentary analysis of a nonforensic healthy control sample and replicate our 93% sex discrimination. These findings demonstrate that the brains of males and females are highly distinguishable. “

This is an example of using semantics to obscure a conclusion, or, more specifically, using a definition to guide a conclusion to an intended destination. For example, consider the following statement:

“Evidence shows that cars do not only come in dark colors. Therefore, it is a myth that cars only come in dark or light colors.” [implied conclusion: cars come in both colors equally]

Of course, different colored cars do exist, but they also tend to cluster more around dark colors like red, grey, and blue and less on light colors such as yellow and pink. Same applies here. It may be true that these different characteristics exist on somewhat of a gradient, but they also clump pretty significantly as well, so it is not correct to imply – as this author did – that they are distributed equally between both poles. That is a fallacy.

As the poster pointed out, there are indeed noticeable differences between male and female brains and those differences usually (but not always) correlate with typical male / female behaviors; these differences can also often be seen on the brain images of some transgenders. The point of the opinion piece was to promote a conclusion based upon a biased definition that guided a result to the intended destination. The OpEd writer wants to obscure the line between male and female, masculine and feminine, in order to assert that these things exist in a gradient that is equal between both ends. Of course, this is not the case as they tend to clump together in ways that we would typically define as gender.

Most heterosexual women don’t want them banned. Women like to look nice. They spend billions of dollars on haircare and makeup and clothes (including things like two-piece bikinis). One of the most common cosmetic procedures in the US is breast augmentation; and it works quite well as over 70% of females who get the procedure reporting greater life satisfaction. Over all, only a relatively small percentage of American women say they would use the word “feminist” to describe themselves. Most of this comes from the outsized influence wielded by urban, upperclass and wannabe upperclass, liberals and lesbians. They certainly do not represent most females. It’s ironic that feminists bemoan a patriarchy that does not exist and supposedly limits their freedom when in reality it mostly comes from beta male dorks and urban lesbians who don’t speak for normal women…at all.

The joke is making fun of society and bigotry while affirming the immutable nature of sexuality.

It’s lampooning the idea that people choose to be gay, which used to be a big part of the argument that homosexuality was immoral.

To be fair, society has largely moved beyond whether being gay is a choice or not. Young people don’t even care. Sexuality is a benign difference to them. The “it isn’t a choice” argument was always something of a pity argument, also. “Yeah, being gay is gross, but they didn’t choose to be that way, so leave them alone.” People have moved onto the “Love is love” argument, or “They aren’t hurting anyone,” or even just, “Mind your own business.”

On the other hand, porn (aka filmed, safer, much more profitable, much much more virtue-signaling sex work) is more prevalent than ever. True, “the industry” complains lots about internet piracy, but much more so the “talent”. Producers, as owners of the tapes and websites, will reap in more money than the poor exhibitionists, and much more so the ad revenue biz and the tech trust (which may just buy out “the industry” outright). There are more producers, a wider bottom of pyramid so to speak, but the top remains consolidated and stronger than ever. Similar to the music business, which is only somewhat less seedy and exploitative, or really the whole of showbiz…

Obviously legalized brothels would drive down costs at first. Anything that makes sex with hot women cheaper for men, would in turn make normal women in general more subservient and submissive when dating, yet also more conservative on the outside as they don’t want their value decreasing any lower (Hispanic countries for example, where brothels are legal -and wide ranging in quality- but abortion not so much – because abortion makes pregnancy cheap but sex not so much).

But then again, like I mention about legalized porn above (and maybe like the current legal weed market), an oligopoly-style integration might also happen in the West concerning brothels, and thus the price of sex may not come down but rather become disparate in extremes even more – specially if female hyperconsumption and feminazi-slut-worship trends continue. The current abundance of sluts, instead of making normal women shame them like in other times, now becomes something to be proud of in the West. With mass birth control and STD prevention and treatments, plus affirmative action, social media orbiters, and cultural feminism, there would be quite a different effect to legalizing prostitution. In other times, the women of a village occasionally railed against a local harlot or house of sin. Today, fewer and fewer would. Except that just like back then, they would blame strictly the men and their satyr-like ways.

Hopefully there is a mass correction coming up soon to all this.

Often, the problem is they get it and just don’t like it. People got the Patel joke, and that is why he had to be Babooed.

Jokes are generally triggering and ‘offensive’. Usually, someone or something is the object of mockery. It could be others or it could be the self, usually the case with Joan Rivers and esp Rodney Dangerfield who never got any respect.

Humor usually doesn’t go well together with holiness and reverence. When what is holy is allowed to be mocked, it loses its luster. I think it was less Darwin & Marx and more Marx Brothers that did in Christianity. It’s like you can never look at opera in the same way again after NIGHT AT THE OPERA.

Ustinov’s take on SIEGRIED is hilarious. After that joke, one can’t watch that moment in the opera with ‘solemnity’ anymore. Video at 40:05.

And the Old Elites of Europe relied so much on pomp and reverence. The kings and noblemen had be to be regarded with awe. Once people began to see them as ridiculous and phony, they were doomed. Such elites can be weakened by humor or fanatical anti-humor. With the rise of modernity, people began to chuckle about the kings and queens.

But in the case of Iran, the revolt wasn’t about the Shah being a clown but a shill of the West. The rebels were fanatics who had even less sense of humor. Same in Cambodia with the Khmer Rouge. And there were Jewish communists who weren’t big on humor either. But in the capitalist West, the general Jewish way of subverting the order was through humor(and pornography as in Weimar Germany). In some cases, laughter at one authority can lead to fanatical commitment to another authority. The soldiers laugh at the elite officer in DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, but the mockery is immediately followed up with brutal violence and silence. Whatever the result, few things are as effective in undermining respect for authority as laughter. This is why PC can’t abide by humor directed at what it deems holy. If humor could bring down respect/reverence for kings, ideologies, and God Himself, it can bring down anything.

Humor can be gentle or G-rated(like on Hee-Haw), but is most effective at PG-13 to R-rated level. (X-rated standup with all that about puds and poons got tiresome UNLESS the comic has real talent, like Sam Kinison and Eddie Murphy, esp. Mr T. as fa**ot.) And edgier humor will always sting its victims. Granted, humor is often self-effacing or double-targeted, passive/aggressive. It mocks the mocker along with the mocked, like with Sanford and Julio on SANFORD AND SON. There are lots of ‘Hispanic’ jokes but the joke is also on Sanford as black bigot.

Now, in our post-religious age, nothing should be holy, but as Jonathan Haidt and many others remarked, there is something about psychology that is righteous or holy-schmoly, and new gods are erected by forms of cultural consensus formed by controllers of mass media. Some things or peoples can take on holiness even if they are not part of any official religion. MLK and Mandela are not seen as literal gods, but the idolatry around them has consecrated them as figures deserving of utmost reverence. Homos are associated with ‘rainbow’ colors, Jews always with Shoah, and blacks with slavery(as evil second only to Shoah) and Civil Rights Movement, the Narrative of which is about Good vs Evil with nothing in between. Granted, it’s downright schizo in trying to maintain reverential thoughts about Jews, blacks, and homos. Jews want to be regarded as the solemn Shoah People, but they are naturally funny, goofy, and irreverent. So, when we think of Jews, we are not sure to think of Groucho or Anne Frank. Blacks want to us see them as ‘We Shall Overcome’ people, but so much of black culture is loony, nuts, and ridiculous. In some ways, INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and DJANGO UNCHAINED convey this schizo-ness: Moralism + Irreverent Sadism. And homos. It’s amazing how many people regard the AIDS epidemic as a kind of homo-holocaust when it was the result of homos acting like a bunch of ludicrous fruits butt-banging one another like crazed rabbits.

Patel’s ‘sin’ was he mocked blackness and homosexuality. Now, one could argue that his joke was ultimately sympathetic to blacks and homos: they have a hard time in the world due to ‘racism’ and ‘homophobia’. Still, he made a joke of it, and PC won’t tolerate mockery of the holy-schmolies. It undermines reverence, and that means PC’s grip is weakened.

If he had joked thus about any other group, even Asians, it would have been okay. But Jews, homos, and Negroes are untouchable no matter the issue or problem. Just revere and quasi-worship them. In a way, the joke-that-no-one-got is that Asians live up to stereotypes. They suck up to power and conform to the Official Narrative. Since blacks and homos are holy in the Jewish-controlled West, Asians submit to the Narrative and Iconography most sheepishly. The perimeters of their humor is determined by the Power.

You could observe this on all-comedy-guest talk shows like the old “Tough Crowd.” Unlike an interview or podcast where the joke teller controls the spoken rhythm, in a group setting it’s easy to accidentally rush the punchline or otherwise not stick the landing on a prepared bit (assuming someone else in the group doesn’t sabotage you outright). Timing is if not everything 99% of comic technique. This is Trump’s advantage, when his material itself is often howlingly bad or incoherent. Anyone can have good writers. The biggest unexploded landmine in U.S.-dominated pop media is the nomenklatura’s intersectional indulgence of coarse/macho/[x]-phobic black rap of the NWA school. Its vast international profitability and imitation proves how toothless the globo-left’s speech codes and nostrums about “rape culture” really are, provided you belong to a racial group with official immunity–which btw, “does not exist” (race)

The complete surrender of not only “feminists” but most women voters everywhere to legal ubiquitous porn is a strong sign they’re completely full of it. It’s a “What’s The Matter With Kansas” dynamic. Very few women out of those *who work in the business* benefit from it, much less all the substandard-for-porn women receiving no payments from it, or from real workaday prostitution. But they’ve all been brainwashed to think anti-porn laws would be something foisted on them by uncool, icky Bible-thumping Republicans, like their dads, or whatever. In reality GOP have given up on being stern dads decades ago, but such is the reasoning process of women.

Anyway courtesy of the Silicon Valley messiahs a lot of ordinary skanks now get to daydream about waggling their bits in front of a webcam for shopping money if needed. Thanks to the globalized skank-market, it even works out as a productive “cottage industry.”

Patel didn’t get the memo. You can only make fun of your own kind these days.

Russell Peters made a career out of making fun of Indians and Chinese, i.e. Asians making fun of Asians, that’s acceptable. Only blacks can make fun of blacks, only gays can make fun of gays, only women can make fun of women, and only Jews can make fun of Jews. The only group that is fair game for everyone to laugh at is conservative gentile white males.

    Get with the program, Patel.

The artistic intent of Satire is to ruffle the pearl-clutchers, and make fun of conventional norms that have become absurd. The new drama is the Satirists are being forced to contend with their own traditional political base, which is EXTREMELY powerful in a satirist’s world.

If you’re a performer, if you’re a writer, liberal’s control your paycheck unless you go rogue and establish a Youtube or podcast following, but even then, Youtube can and does demonetized the video’s their monitor kids don’t agree with, and PayPal does the same. Even Patreon can cut your cash flow.

So unless you’re a satirist who’s very rich uncle just died, your ability to practice your art is hampered,
and your long-term fiscal viability is always in significant danger.

If we agree that the Satirist is a healthy culture’s “canary in the coal mine,” our current measure of satirical health portends to a dark destiny indeed.

When Whites brown out or otherwise disappear, Jews will lose most of their power too, but they don’t care. Then Islam will revert to what it always was and in centuries, or millennia hence, a new order will emerge again.

Muslims will not be controllable by Jews , counter to what many Jews think. What will control Muslims is their own backwardness and depravity.

A small, tough White remnant will survive, but it will be centuries before it comes back to the level of 1955-65 America. Generations will live like Amish, with no electricity or motor vehicles.

But I’ll be dead by then.

It’s called a bi-modal distribution and it very much does suggest, in aggregate, two populations.

“Racism” and “hate” when used in a spoils opportunity setting are simply part of the shake-down vocabulary of the sacramental irrationality movement dba social justice. Reason that impedes spoils is either hate, racism or both.

Both terms are used most regularly by shake-down artists and their facilitators.

Tolerance (or any of the other values from the Enlightenment) is not a suicide pact. The value of tolerance does not mean to roll over and look the other way when hate of the other for its own sake of the other is the only motivation. For example, when a fascist runs his car into a group of anti-Nazi protestors, the response should not be ‘both sides have good points and both sides are to blame’. The response is to be intolerant towards the fascist and his beliefs. (Call me a hypocrite; I don’t care about consistency when it comes to standing up against fascist).

  168. In related (?) news, black comedian Mariah Smith just had a column, about the marriage of Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, pulled from New York Magazine’s The Cut for being racist. Fast Company reports some of the arguments. Apparently it’s racist to… be cynical about an Indian celebrity? talk about her wealth? highlight the Indian cultural elements in her wedding in India? One tweet recorded by Fast Company complains “You can’t claim to stand for #BlackLivesMatter and then use your western privilege to bring down a successful woman from global south”, but has since been deleted with an apology and a call for intersectional sisterhood.

The collapse of western civilisation is not going to be fun but it’s unfortunately necessary. Western civilisation has chosen sekf-destruction.

The real tragedy would be if the West takes genuine outposts of civilisation like China and Russia down the toilet with it.

Did a small Latin remnant survive the demise of the Western Empire in this manner? Pretty sure they mostly blended into the degenerated milieu.

Civilisation did eventually recover. By the 12th century western Europe had made an impressive comeback. Medieval civilisation has had a bad press but it was arguably superior to classical civilisation.

But the extent to which the new civilisation was based on a rediscovery of classical civilisation has been wildly exaggerated. It was pretty much a brand new civilisation. So really the collapse of classical civilisation in the West was pretty final. Looking at our current civilisation it would possibly be better if no remnants of it survive.

And of course the recovery took about seven centuries.
