The Japanese are a physically small race and have few famous athletes on the world stage. Japan has also been one of the few successful countries to staunchly resist the zeitgeist’s pressures to open the borders, especially to the world’s fastest growing racial group, blacks. But big corporations are working to undermine Japan’s resolve, using, for example, a giant half-black American girl tennis player as a wedge.

From the New York Times Magazine:

Naomi Osaka’s Breakthrough Game

The 20-year-old is poised to burst into the top tier of women’s tennis. Can she also burst Japan’s expectations of what it means to be Japanese?

By Brook Larmer
Aug. 23, 2018

… Only in this case, the parents’ unlikely union has led to the emergence of one of the most intriguing young stars in sports today: an athlete who has grown up in one place (the United States), represents another (Japan) and, for some, symbolizes something as large as the world’s multicultural future. In playing under the flag of an island nation noted for its racial homogeneity, Osaka challenges assumptions about whether and under what circumstances a biracial person might be accepted as truly Japanese.

… At 20, she is the youngest woman in the world’s Top 20 — and Japan’s highest-ranked female player in more than a decade. … Tsuyoshi Yoshitani, a sports reporter with Kyodo News, says: “Naomi is like no Japanese player ever before. I think she will be the first Japanese player to win a Grand Slam.”

Yet Osaka’s rise is accompanied by a curious tension: She is half-Japanese, half-Haitian, representing a country whose obsession with racial purity has shaped her own family’s history. Though born in Japan, Osaka has lived in the United States since she was 3. She is not fully fluent in Japanese. Yet nearly a decade ago, her father decided that his two daughters would represent Japan, not America. It was a prescient move. Osaka’s success — and her tweeted affection for Japanese manga and movies — has endeared her to Japanese fans hungry for a female tennis star.

What makes Osaka so complicated for Japan is precisely what makes her so appealing to many fans and corporate brands around the world. The young woman with the fearsome forehand and 120-mile-per-hour serve may not simply be the future of women’s tennis. “When I look 15 years into the future, I see Naomi having a great tennis career, perhaps even with Grand Slam titles,” Stuart Duguid, her agent at I.M.G., says. “But I also hope that she’s changed cultural perceptions of multiracial people in Japan. I hope she’s opened the door for other people to follow, not just in tennis or sports, but for all of society. She can be an ambassador for change.” …

Japan’s long history of guarding against foreigners dates back to the 1630s, when the Tokugawa shogunate cut off the archipelago from the rest the world.

… One evening in 1999, when the girls were just toddlers, Francois became transfixed by a broadcast of the French Open featuring the American prodigies Venus and Serena Williams, then 18 and 17, who teamed up to win the doubles title that year. Francois played little tennis. But Richard Williams, the sisters’ father and coach, had played none at all. And Williams had created a plan to turn his daughters into champions, teaching them how to serve big and hit hard from every corner of the court. “The blueprint was already there,” Francois told me. “I just had to follow it.”

Naomi Osaka has few memories of her early years in Japan. The family left for the United States when she was 3, moving in with her Haitian grandparents on Long Island. …

Their Asian side won out in another essential way. Instead of taking their father’s last name, the girls used their mother’s name — a Japanese surname that, improbably, is the same as the city of their birth. …

The family moved to southern Florida in 2006 to focus on tennis full time.

… His daughters, from age 13, would play for Japan, the nation they left behind nearly a decade earlier.

… Osaka’s grasp on the [Japanese] language is more tenuous. …Her reluctance can create awkward moments at news conferences, with Japanese reporters asking questions that she answers in English.

The decision to play for Japan has had major repercussions in Osaka’s life, from the way she is perceived in Japan and the United States to the size of the endorsement contracts she can now command as a top Japanese athlete ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Though some in the tennis world wondered whether the decision was influenced by commercial prospects — the Japanese star Kei Nishikori’s massive endorsements were no secret — the family insists that the girls were too young and unproven for that to be a factor. The Japan Tennis Association, facing a drought of top female players, offered them an opportunity. …

In Japan, a mixed-race person is known as hafu (from the English word “half”)….

The realm of sports has been more welcoming. Unlike Miyamoto, Osaka has been embraced by Japanese media, companies and fans hungering for a female tennis star. Nissin, one of the world’s largest instant-noodle companies, has already signed her to a lucrative deal, as has Wowow, the tennis channel that broadcasts her matches in Japan. The Osaka camp plans to announce a large new endorsement deal before the U.S. Open, and other Japanese multinationals are circling. Osaka’s biggest payday may come at the end of the year, when her Adidas shoe-and-apparel contract expires — just in time for the prelude to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

If Osaka played under the American flag, it’s very unlikely that these opportunities would exist. Japanese companies would have no reason to court her and U.S. brands would have other higher-ranked young guns to consider, like Madison Keys and Sloane Stephens. But as Japan’s top-ranked player, Osaka has the full attention of the country’s top brands, whose sponsorship fees can run far higher than those of their Western counterparts. There’s a reason Nishikori, despite never having won a Grand Slam title, surpassed bigger stars like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in endorsement income over the past year, with $33 million, according to Forbes. Only Roger Federer earned more. “Kei’s been a trailblazer for Naomi,” Duguid, her agent from I.M.G., says. “He’s opened doors for tennis in Japan and across Asia.” But with Osaka’s combination of youth, authenticity and cultural diversity, he says, “she might have more global appeal.”

… Osaka’s game and powerful 5-foot-11 frame stood in stark contrast to the other Japanese singles player, Kurumi Nara, who is just 5-foot-1. “Everything about Naomi breaks the mold,” says Kenshi Fukuhara, a producer with Wowow. “Physically, she’s so much more powerful than other Japanese players. She looks more like Serena, but she’s very Japanese inside.”

Nao Hibino, a 23-year-old Japanese player who has been ranked as high as 56, appreciates all the attention Osaka has brought to women’s tennis in Japan. But she still finds it hard to conceptualize her as a Japanese player. “To be honest, we feel a bit of distance from her because she is so physically different, she grew up in a different place and doesn’t speak as much Japanese,” …

  5. this is not new. japan has had several half african half japanese athletes at the national level. they have a few now. they consider them japanese. but they also instinctively understand the difference and never consider these people to be the future or japan or anything like that. probably because it is so rare in numeric terms that they accept the few outliers and know it won’t be increasing over time.

i have talked to straight up japanese nationalistic types about this and their response is pretty uniform. one japanese parent from japan= japanese, period. no reservations, no second guessing.

this is also national policy. japanese women with children from a non-japanese father, are always allowed to just leave whatever country they are in, and if they make it to japan, no other country is allowed to touch the mother or the children. they are considered home. it is irrelevant what the father thinks.

this policy doesn’t extend to genetically japanese people born outside japan and from a different culture. it seems to be a ‘japanese person from japan’ only thing.

Japanese woman rejects Japanese men as inferior and goes with a black guy.

And Japan accepts that rejection as ‘new Japanese’.

probably because it is so rare in numeric terms that they accept the few outliers and know it won’t be increasing over time.

It doesn’t matter. Few is all that takes. Blacks were small in Canada but took over track. Same in UK and France. And now, French soccer is all black.

Just a handful of blacks can replace the representative face of a nation. That has a huge effect on national psyche. Because of blacks in UK sports and music, even UK history is retro-fitted to be black.

i have talked to straight up japanese nationalistic types about this and their response is pretty uniform. one japanese parent from japan= japanese, period. no reservations, no second guessing.

They are idiots. Most of these mixed-raced Japanese are products of Japanese women rejecting Japanese men. Accepting the product of rejection as the face of Japan is hardly nationalism.

It has become a NY Times tradition that on the first Sunday of the US Open the magazine profiles a tennis player. But there are only some many times they can profile the Williams sisters. 25. From the LA Times in 1995:

But Kinugasa is a Japanese sporting icon whose record is among the touchstones of his country’s sporting culture. The day he passed Gehrig–June 13, 1987–was not unlike a national holiday.

“They stopped the game in the third inning and had a ticker-tape parade and a huge ceremony right there in the stadium,” said Rick Lancelotti, a former American major leaguer who was Kinugasa’s teammate with the Carp in 1987…

    Still,

His parentage remains a sore subject for him to this day. According to “You Gotta Have Wa,” a book on Japanese baseball by American journalist Robert Whiting, neither of Kinugasa’s authorized biographies mentions his father, and Carp management had a standing order that no one mention it…

“They have words over there for people who aren’t 100% percent born and raised Japanese,” Lancelotti said.

    http://articles.latimes.com/1995-07-23/sports/sp-27130_1_japanese-player

    One error, though:

    Unlike his countryman, Sadaharu Oh…

Oh is a lifelong citizen of the Republic of China, where his father was born, and not Japan. His mother was Japanese.

He’s also in the 2018 news, along with Kinugasa. Oh married in May, at 78. Congratulations!

I think the real issue is national face vs faceless masses.

Even without this girl, there is pressure even from within Japan for more immigration. 75% of Japanese corporations demand it because birth-rates are so low. And as so many Japanese are over-worked and don’t want to do ‘dirty’ jobs, they see the need for more people. Japan should have more kids, but the culture works against it.

But here’s the thing. When most non-blacks come to Japan, even as they swell in number over time, they won’t affect the Face of Japan. Chances are Vietnamese, Filipinos, and etc are not going to excel in sports or become prominent in pop culture. Also, if they marry with Japanese, it will often bbe Japanese men and other-asian-women. Even if lots of Vietnamese and Filipinos come to Japan, they will remain mostly faceless people working in menial jobs. Over time, they can pose a demographic threat, but they won’t alter the Face of Japan.

But it’s different with blacks. Even just a few blacks can drastically alter Japan’s image. Why? Because the image of national hero or idol is now defined by sports and pop music. It’s the Greco-Roman ideal of celebrating athletes and performers above all else.

Blacks are markedly stronger and faster than Japanese and can sing louder. So, even with just a few blacks in Japan, the new heroes and idols will be blacks. Also, unlike half-Japanese Asians who are bred mostly by Japanese men, these half-black kids are almost entirely products of black men and Japanese women. So, blackness is dominant. And as they take over sports and other fame-filled fields, they effectively become the New Ideal of Japan even if they are small in number. Not long ago, Japan made a half-black woman into Miss Japan. Fastest runner is now a half-black guy. And this tennis star is the same. Born of black man. And if she were to win the championship, the Japanese president will have to make an appearance with her and promote her as the New Ideal and New Face of Japan. And as Japanese corporations and advertising companies are all controlled by globo-homo forces, they will run with it. As Japanese are conformist, their national self-image can change almost overnight.

This will lead to decline in Japanese male prestige, and more Japanese women will be emboldened to have kids with blacks as Japanese have herd-mentality and wanna do whatever is promoted as prestigious.

This is also true of France and UK. There are more non-black Muslims than blacks in France and UK. But the New Face of France and UK are blacks because blacks win in sports, do rap, and are admired as studs. There is so much about gender studies but history will really be made by sexual studs. Studs > Studies unless barriers are erected.

  30. Sport run amok is a major problem in our society, and televised sports are one of the worst possible influences on any culture.

To be clear: I’m not anti-sport, any more than someone who is anti pornography is anti-sex. I think one of the most important parts of my kids school day involves pick-up games at recess. I love playing catch with the kids. I don’t believe there is a meaningful distinction between mind and body so I consider exercise incredibly important even though I never cared too much about my physical appearance. And I can’t deny the visceral appeal of watching sporting contests, just as I can’t deny the visceral appeal of taking an oxycontin or watching pornography. But I’ve realized now…the adults in the room need to step in when these sorts of things get out of control.

Sports are one of those ‘good things’ that get warped and distorted by modernity into something grotesque. Traditionally games/sports/whatever took place within a given culture/society, so anyone playing them by definition had what it took to ‘make it’ in that society, whether that be a farming community or a boarding school. The stakes were low and participation broad; given this it gave individuals a chance to get all the benefits of exercise and all the benefits of team sports. It was not at all unreasonable to consider people who were skilled at some given game to be more admirable/attractive as it was already a given that they had what it took to be an otherwise functional member of society. But it was also understood as a peripheral activity.

Televised sports discards most of the unequivocally good things about participation sport (like exercise), and dials everything else up to 11, resulting in a grotesque distortion. It’s like that morphine molecule jumping up and down on the opiate receptor that was designed for natural, endogenous endorphins.

The US was the first place sport became a battering ram to destroy culture. (I don’t think this process was intentional, personally, but I do think certain people realized what was happening and tried to amplify the effect.) We had a pool of available blacks who were undeniably more talented than the rest of the population at certain children’s games, along with a stronger commitment to meritocracy than most places. The effects are unsurprising, and catastrophic.

By watching televised groups of Negroes representing ‘your’ city, or ‘your’ country, you are led to believe that they are more your kin and country than the white players on the other side of the ball.

By watching televised groups of Negroes skillfully placing a rubber ball through a metal hoop, you are led to believe that there are groups of Negroes elsewhere skillfully performing surgery or skillfully designing integrated circuits or skillfully flying airplanes, as opposed to being generally layabout parasites.

These ‘fans’ spend more time watching the television than actually being out in the world where reality would slap some sense into them. They internalize something completely wrong about the relative value of the races when they watch this stuff; based on an activity that is inherently useless.

In reality if putting a rubber ball through a metal hoop was important some white or Asian guy would have designed a ball through hooping machine that would shoot 1000 baskets a second and saturate the market for ballsinhoops. Le Bron James would have a job at the DMV which he would probably suck at.

No. HBD comes into play. At the global level, most races lose. It’s winner-takes-all for a few. Due to racial differences, effort become meaningless.

This is true in many fields. The chances are Mexico will not produce grand chess champions.
Africa will not produce nuclear physicists.
And Japan will not product top athletes.

So, it makes more sense for nations to focus on national and local competition.

Russia had a brief period from around 2004-2007 where they had a lot of women’s tennis players who were highly ranked. However, they tended to underperform at the Grand Slam events and I don’t think anyone who follows the sport would say they were dominate. Going into the U.S. Open next week, they only have four players in the top 50 and since the top women are so inconsistent now that could change quickly. It certainly didn’t compare to the level of success Korean women had in professional golf.

  41. Foreign journalists projecting their hopes and aspirations on Japan is a kind of tradition. The same thing happened with Ariana Miyamoto but where is she now? She disappeared from Japanese media almost as soon as her year was up and now she’s on some kind of SJW speaking tour overseas. I’ll never forget seeing her on TV News for the first time: my (Japanese) wife and MIL said, “Couldn’t they have picked someone who was more representative of Japan?”

The question of who gets accepted as Japanese is complicated but in general half are also treated as outsiders. It comes down to how skilled they are at the language, experience and knowledge of the culture, and how Japanese they look, on a sliding scale. Right now Osaka is doing well at Tennis so she’s accepted by the media but once her usefulness wears off she’ll go right back into the mostly-foreigner category and be forgotten. If she could learn Japanese properly she could possibly have a career on TV wide shows but they would still put her on panels as a token foreigner. With poor language skills the average salaryman on the street won’t consider her Japanese.

By the way, Japan isn’t as closed off as some Westerners would like to think. The barriers to entry are pretty low but there aren’t many benefits to staying long term. Once you learn the (ridiculously hard) language to a high level you’re expected to adhere to social norms and get treated poorly at work the same as native Japanese do. There’s very little payoff. So most foreigners cycle through in about 3-5 years while long term expats tend to be oddballs and/or bitter alcoholics.

So America basically raises and trains this gal, but we won’t reap the benefits if she wins titles or strikes olympic gold. I thought the World Cup showed us that the whole point of diversity is to win sports titles.

This brings up something I have always found difficult to understand. As an American, how do I personally benefit when the USA wins an Olympic medal? Is it just that I am supposed to take pride that an American, who I have no relationship or interaction with, beat a bunch of other nation competitors, who I also have no relationship or interaction with, because I am also an American?

If the answer to that last question is yes, does that mean I can also take pride in what white people accomplish even if I had no relationship with that white person?

I thought the World Cup showed us that the whole point of diversity is to win sports titles.

Our biggest moment in World Cup history, before hosting it ourselves, we owe to a Haitian, Joe Gaetjens. He scored the only goal in our win over England in 1950. (That’s the one where a British newsman interpreted the cable as England winning “10-1″, as he couldn’t believe the real score.)

So his immigration did pay off for us. But that would have been under the old regime, 1921-65, when standards were in place and enforced. Would that we had those back.

Gaetjens was living in America legally, but he might not have been eligible, under strict FIFA rules at the time, to represent us. Yep, FIFA once had standards, too.

For a Haitian, he’s rather pale:

He went to school in Japan, trained in Spain and Florida, and speaks fluent English, Spanish, and Japanese. He plays for Japan but probably could be a top 5 American player within the next few years. He beat Djokovic at Indian Wells, and won a tournament in Turkey this year. He played for Japan in the Davis Cup against Italy a few months ago and forced Fognini to 5 sets.

Daniel is 6’3″. It’s possible, but unlikely, that Japan (pure Japan) could produce a Slam winner. Nishikori came close, but it’s going to be really, really hard for anyone under 6 feet to pull it off, absent crazy athleticism (e.g., Agassi).

At 5’10″ I’m an inch shorter than her, right at the US male average in fact, and while it’s somewhat unusual to see a woman who’s taller than me it’s not weird or anything.
Also, the average height of adult women in the US takes into account older women, who generally were shorter to begin with and have often lost height with age. Among women in Osaka’s age group the average is probably at least an inch taller than the overall female average.

It is amazing to recall that Rod Laver was (in his prime) only 5’8″, and his countryman Ken Rosewall was (ditto) only 5’7″!

No matter what the line on the map said, until 20th century, there were really no immigration control by either the Moscow/Tokyo on those islands. Especially among the fishing folks. So the islands were a mixture of mainline Japanese, Ainu/Inuits/Asiatic Siberians people/white Russians, etc.

Sharapova was born in Siberia. Does her family have genetic input from the Siberian natives? Maybe those two are distantly related.

  96. @Henry's Cat

Japanese pronunciation is pretty easy. There are only about 110 sounds, and the vowels are similar to Spanish vowels.

Hiragana and katakana are not too difficult to pick up. Both have around 25-30 different, fairly distinct symbols. There are plenty of good apps to learn both alphabets.

Kanji are the real problem. You have to memorize minimum 2000 different pictograms for basic literacy. On top of that, you have the different “readings” of an individual kanji that can only be determined by the context it exists in.

It boggles my mind that all the other Asian countries hate China, yet they persist in maintaining their own versions of the Chinese pictograms that are one of the most cumbersome, inefficient writing systems of all time.

I pity the Japanese. Too bad for them. They want to remain pure.

I don’t think it’s about purity. Japanese know they are a mixed bunch. They know they got Ainu blood. And even during the Japanese empire, there was mixing of Japanese and Koreans and Chinese. If anything, Koreans were regarded Koreans as fellow Yamato people and made to take on Japanese names.

It’s not about racial purity. It’s about racial security. Japanese don’t believe they are better. But they believe that cultural unity depends on a shared race. But this is breaking down.

Anime and manga created an alternative fantasy Michael-Jackson-like Japan. Young Japanese grew up fantasizing being white. Some of these anime works are good, but one really wonders… Miyazaki’s movies were all set in Europe before TOTORO. Why? Also, the way the characters are drawn — usually to look western –, it’s hard to tell Western from Japanese.
But whites go black, Japanese follow.

Also, internet has connected Japan to the world and undermined its cultural insularity.
Also, Japanese boomer parents coddled their kids. Because they had so few kids, they treated them like princesses, esp the girls. So, these girls grew up going to dance clubs and spending all the money on themselves. These girls prioritize fun and thrills over family and duty.

Also, Japan has been a porny society. Many visitors have noticed that it’s not unusual to see people read adult manga on subways in Japan. And Japan has merged cartoons with pornography in a huge way.
Japanese are outwardly inhibited and polite but inwardly wild and animal. So, even as Japanese have been well-mannered on the outside, they really let their inner fantasies run wild in entertainment, and this has come to affect behavior.

One article says 1 out of 200 Japanese women worked in porn. So, it means many Japanese are shameless on the inside if well-behaved on the outside. It’s like Japanese could be polite in Japan but upon being let loose in Nanking, go totally nuts. Japanese women seem to be that way. They may be well-mannered outside in Japan, but their inner fantasies are wild and porny. With rise of internet, they have more access to sexual fantasies, and they got jungle fever. These women grew up with Japanese men but reject all of them and fly off 1000s of miles to have sex and kids with black men. And then, they bring these kids to Japan.

So, the real issue isn’t corporations and Western media. It is modernity, freedom for Japanese women, and sexual differences among races. These Japanese freely chose to fly off to other places and meet up with black men. They chose to bring their black kids back to Japan. As these kids excel in sports way above Japanese, Japan will have to take notice of them EVEN IF they don’t want to. I mean, how can Japanese ignore the fact that the top tennis player is a half-black kid? or top runner? When Hawaiians began to dominate in sumo for awhile, it was news whether Japanese wanted it to be or not.

Japanese government and corporations didn’t tell these Japanese women to go to US or Jamaica or Haiti to have kids with black men. These women did on their own. (I think one decatholan winner was a son of black guy and japanese woman.)
And Japanese women are bold that way because, despite their polite exterior, they grew up with a culture that is extreme in inner-fantasy in violence and sexuality. They want to follow their sexual fantasies to the end of the world.
And as these women brought their kids to Japan, there is nothing Japan can do but pay attention when these kids win in sports. Japanese corporations are following, not leading. The leading force is jungle fever among Japanese women. They are addicted to Negro dongs and want have to have kids with big tough men than scrawny yellow guys who are timid and nerdy.

So, even though Japanese made something nice with modern Japan while blacks made a shithole of Haiti, all the achievements of Japanese men in Japan will eventually go over to blacks and other races as globalized Japanese women now see Japanese men as losers who should die as virgin incels while they have kids with superior men. In the end, Haiti wins because black men gain access to Japanese holes while Japanese men look to sex robots and videogames. It’s pretty much the same in France and UK, but it will be could be more dire in Japan because, whereas whites can sometimes beat blacks, Japanese manhood will be totally crushed by blacks. But maybe this is deserved. Modern Japan is a soulless society. Everything is fake and phony. It deserves to fall like the phony world in ZARDOZ. It lost connection to nature, culture, and history.

How does Japanese compare to Mandarin in terms of learning difficulty?

I learned Japanese for about a year when living in Tokyo. It’s not hard to learn the phonetic alphabets, and the inflections are very pronounced, and thus relatively easy to model and acquire, but you really need a teacher who is the same gender as you. The grammar is not particularly hard. The hardest part is the pictograms, and I was told by a number of my expatriate colleagues that it took them up to 5 years to learn them well enough to read the local financial and business papers with ease.

The Japanese culture is such, however, that people really don’t fault you for speaking the langage poorly. You are permanently foreign, and expectations are set low. No outsider ever passes for Japanese, linguistically or culturally, let alone racially.

Globalizaton! In sports it’s pretty common to move and live where the coaching talent and competitive talent is. Figure skaters go to Canada and the United States. Swimmers go to the United States or Australia. There are no Kenyan distance runners training in Kenya. Table tennis athletes go to China and usually play on domestic Chinese teams, the way Asian soccer players play on domestic teams in Europe. A recent Olympic medalist Japanese speed skater had moved to the Netherlands, while a medaling kayaker had moved to Slovakia at age 18. Noted hip-hop dancer Koharu Sugawara is one of many dancers who went to the U.S. She begged her grandfather to lend her the money when she was a teen.

Aoyama Teruma is a half-black Japanese singer. In entertainment people are accepted who are not accepted in normal society in Japan, in particular the many flamboyant gays and trans and cross-dressing entertainers.

There are many half- and quarter-white and half- Japanese actors and actresses. They can be very attractive, and they end up marrying Japanese, so I think that, genetically, it may be a good long-term thing. There are also several half-Filipino Japanese actresses. Filipinos come to work and marry older men who live in the countryside and are thrilled to score a hard-working, young wife. The mix is very nice, visually. Half-Filipino, half-Japanese women are often really beautiful. IQ-wise, I don’t know, since Filipinos are the Hispanics of Asia: what the genetic mix is from what continents is a mystery for any particular individual.

You do see half-black kids around, and they’re kids, so they’re cute as kids, but they are objectively pretty unappealing and mongrel-like in appearance. The whole commercial superstructure of products and services to support the taming of women’s kinky hair is of course not in place in Japan. I’m sure that half-black kids are bullied and teased in school. School bullying is a problem, and should be minimized, but cannot be eliminated, and in my opinion is a small price to pay for maintaining a homogeneous society, which is a good thing to have in place in some countries. Diversity of social systems requires that some countries not be socially diverse. If all countries were diverse, that wouldn’t be diverse.

this is also national policy. japanese women with children from a non-japanese father, are always allowed to just leave whatever country they are in, and if they make it to japan, no other country is allowed to touch the mother or the children. they are considered home. it is irrelevant what the father thinks.

this policy doesn’t extend to genetically japanese people born outside japan and from a different culture. it seems to be a ‘japanese person from japan’ only thing.

So Japanese xenophobia is not really racist after all. Very interesting and enlightening. Makes the Japanese look much better.

Something like a sixth of current ATP players are 6’5″ or taller. The Big Three (Andy Murray has no business in the same discussion as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic!), however, all are around 6’1″ to 6’2″; so, there is a lot of theorizing that that is the optimal height for a male tennis player, at least as of this current generation, and that taller players have natural deficits that offset the natural serving advantage held by the taller players

Given that combination, my guess would be that height is an advantage up to and above 6’5″, but not as overwhelmingly so as in basketball. I think we are just seeing the larger number (more chances at the full package skill set) of 6’1″ to 6’2″ men overwhelming the height advantage over 6’5″. Any idea what proportion of ATP players are over 6’1″?

Assuming a normal distribution with mean of 5’10″ and SD of 4″ for male height then 6’1″ is 0.75 SD and 6’5″ is 1.75SD. From the normal distribution CDF we see that ~23% of men will be over 6’1″ and only ~4% will be over 6’5″. So the former outnumber the latter by ~5x.

On reflection, the real answer is probably a bit of both. Not sure how much of each effect though.

also, the japanese keep themselves in what i call a internet language ghetto. you gotta speak japanese and speak it well if you want to talk to them. otherwise, they probably won’t talk to you. they make MUCH less effort to learn english, or other international languages, than chinese, korean, and vietnamese people do. and you mainly encounter those other groups when you’re on the internet. the japanese are some of the least common east asians in online communities. because they stay in their own japanese language communities. in many ways, very similar to the french, who do the same exact thing. if you’re on the internet for years, french guys are some of the least common europeans you’ll meet. unless you speak french on french sites.

IMO only. i’ve talked to personal friends who i knew well, so they gave me their actual opinion in private. and this was my general take on their replies. east asians don’t usually tell you what they actually think, you have to be friends with them for years before they volunteer that kind of stuff.

  129. japan has world class 100 meter runners, and has for a while. they aren’t that good at any other event in track & field, with a few guys from japan putting in world class performances in a couple events every decade or so. which is kind of odd. their short sprinting ability translates to…nothing else, which is usually not the case. they don’t run the 200 well, and by 400 they’re totally gone.

they don’t even appear in long jump, high jump, triple jump. the long jump and triple jump ramp are about 42 meters, and take off velocity is the most important part of horizontal jumping, so for everybody else, 100 meter speed translates directly into long jump and triple jump distance. but not for them. basically, if you have to jump, they can’t do it. if it’s further than 100 meters, they can’t do it. very specific and peculiar ability level. the chinese team can do it all, the japanese team can do 1 event.

in tennis, michael chang got to 3 major finals and he was under 6 feet tall. although that probably would not happen today. kei is better than him, and only got to 1 final.

But no one is forcing this on Japan.

Many Japanese go to Paris and are distraught by the Africanization. They abhor what is going on.
But some Japanese(virtually all women) got jungle fever and want to be black men and have black kids. And they enjoy watching their black kids beat Japanese. It’s like white women go with black men and want to have black kids who beat up whites. Women just like to be with winners. They are driven more by primalism than tribalism. When Jack Johnson beat up white guys, lots of white women went with him. Female psychology.

So, there are are Fancy Asians, Jungle Asians, and Jungle Fever Asians.

Fancy Asians look at Paris and lament the Africanization. But Jungle Fever Asians don’t care about culture and civilization and just want funky fun with the Negroes. THEY are the bridge between Africa and Japan. It’s not the men, it’s not Japanese corporations, it’s not even the West(even though it does push globalization on Japan). The real key factor here is Jungle Fever Asian women. All these cases are the result of Japanese women with jungle fever who have kids with black men and then raise their bigger and stronger kids to kick scrawny Japanese butt.

the japanese are hyper aware of how humans are different and definitely mean to keep japan japanese by having a closed society. they even make resident koreans carry ID.

Why did the Japanese let those Koreans stay? Why not kick them out already? Send them to SK or NK.

But here’s the difference between Koreans and blacks. Koreans have been around for some time, but most will not make it big in sports and the idol sweepstakes. So, Koreans don’t threaten the Image of Japan. But blacks will. Like it or not, sports matters a lot in forming the national image.
Koreans are just faceless masses in Japan. But blacks, in winning sports, can take over as the face of Japan. It already happened in UK and France. Up to the 70s, when you thought of a British boxer, it was a white guy. Even if he wasn’t the world champion, he was the British champion. But now, the face of British heroes in sports is usually black. And this had a profound impact on how British see themselves.

In a way, the decline of white prestige has less to do with ‘white guilt’ than white defeat(at the hands of blacks). Just do a little mind experiment. Suppose whites committed all the ‘historical crimes’ but whupped everyone’s ass. Suppose blacks were no match for whites in NBA, NFL, Boxing, and hollering loud in music. Even with PC, whites would have great pride and prestige.
It is because Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, and loud rappers took the spotlight that white prestige declined and went cucky.
Also, the main reason why blacks are so angry with whites is not because of past injustice. It’s because they despise the ‘fa**oty slow white boys’. Suppose there was slavery and all that BUT whites whup black butts in sports. Blacks would be thinking, ‘sheeeeeeiiiii, whitey, he be da bomb. He be da master! I’d pick cotton for dat dude.’
What makes blacks angry is that a race that is weaker and slower than them has more money. But this is also why whites resent Asians more than they resent blacks. As whites have now come to worship blacks, they want blacks to succeed in everything. It just seems right for the race of champions in sports and hollering.
But the idea that those dorky Asians doing better in schools seems unjust. Now, this may not be rational, but humans ‘think’ viscerally. It’s like people feel sadder when a pretty woman is killed than if an ugly one is killed. Consciously and rationally, people know both deaths are equally bad as human lives were killed. But emotionally, they feel more for the pretty one. This is why Americans care more for Jews than Palestinians. When they think of a dead Jew, they think of a dead Einstein, dead Dylan, or dead Seinfeld. In contrast, a dead Palestinian is some nobody with a rag on his head. This is why people feel more sad over a dead horse than a dead camel. Horses just look nicer than funny-looking camels. It’s not rational but visceral, and viscerality matters.

Japanese dominated sumo because they kept it Japanese.

But when they let in some Hawaiians, the hippo-sized guys shot to the elite ranks. Two even made Yokozuna. And then, Hawaiians lost interest, and sumo stables decided to get Mongols, and they’ve been dominating sumo ever since. Mongols evolved slurping yogurt and selecting for guys who can ride horses, wrestle yaks, hunt wolves, shoot arrows, and steal wives. Recently, some Georgian guy made it to elite ranks. It’s all on Jason’s sumo channel. (I think a hometown boy won finally in the latest sumo.) It’s a total disgrace for Japan. As it’s a sacred sports, they should have it kept it all Japanese. If blacks enter sumo, they will dominate forever. Japanese should have been race-ist and accepted their physical inferiority vis-a-vis other races. Just think. Even when Chinese had little to eat and were smaller than today, they called Japanese soldiers ‘dwarfs’. I’m thinking an average Japanese ate better in the early 20th century than an average Chinese, but the Chinese still thought Japanese were little guys. So, did it make sense for Japan to invite all the world to sumo? It’s so dumb, especially because sumo has spiritual significance to the Japanese. But now, it’s just globo fatty-smack-down fest.

When bigger races learn Japanese martial arts, they kick Japanese butt. Japan hardly wins judo or karate or whatever at world level. It’s like Koreans hardly win Taekwondo in Olympics.

Japanese karate guys also got whupped by Thai Boxers. Japanese are runts. Also, they are timid runts. Japanese military order favored timid runts over robust warriors. Mongols were barbarians. They prized guys who could drink yak milk, act tough, and clobber bunch of guys. Mongols are emotionally more volatile, which is why they got into so many scandals.

This is due to different warrior cultures in Mongolia and Japan.

In the Mongol world, if a guy got angry, whupped other guys, and growled like a bear, he was admired as a real dude. He won prestige and got the girls. So, evolution favored the tough guys with rough personalities.

In the Japanese feudal world, if a guy lost his cool and violated protocol, his head was chopped off. So, he didn’t pass down his genes. Samurai prized the warrior who always obeyed and watched himself. This meant those with less robust hormones were prized. And having less hormones, they were more effeminate. So, Mongols bred grunts while Japanese bred runts.
Samurai were trained to be tough warriors in combat, but they were also selected for good behavior and obedience. And this mean those with more wolfish traits got their heads chopped off or forced to commit harakiri. The most famous Japanese story of Chushingura is about a lord who is forced to kill himself for preach of protocol.

This is why so many Japanese men are like Yohei whereas someone like Mifune is an outlier.

And this is why Japan will fall fast when it’s taken over by foreigners. These yohei-men of Japan can work hard and cooperate together among their own kind. But unless they retain this world-of-their-own, they are helpless. Japanese among themselves have shared culture and values. Each person knows his place in the order. But when Japan turns multi-cultural, individualism will have to count for more. And Japanese Yohei-men just don’t know how to navigate as free-lancers.

As for Karate, world champions were guys like Chuck Norris and Jim Kelly.

“The US was the first place sport became a battering ram to destroy culture. (I don’t think this process was intentional, personally, but I do think certain people realized what was happening and tried to amplify the effect.) “

It’s interesting to look at changing club ownership in the UK. When there was less money in the game and no black players, clubs tended to be owned by local businessmen – people like Bob Lord (carpets) at Burnley, or Louis Edwards (wholesale meat) at Manchester United.

There was a transitional period in the 1980s when self-made millionaires, often tax exiles and sometimes with no real connections to the club or the area, started coming in – then when the Premier League arrived with its huge TV payments from Murdoch’s Sky, you started getting more people purely in it for the money – the Glaser family at Manchester United being the prime example, using the private equity model of loading the club with debt and taking out large payments. And with Premier League TV exported worldwide, oligarchs from Uzbekistan to Thailand and China started wanting a piece of the action – like Vincent Tan at Cardiff, who caused a storm when he changed the club’s traditional blue strip to red (lucky colour in Asia).

This coincided with mass immigration, and now Man City vs Man United often looks like Senegal vs Cameroon. But just as in the US, plenty of Brits are happy to cheer on “their” non-Brit players. The 50% black England team in Russia was followed by an almost 100% white support.

Great analysis of race and sports in the USA with some things I never before realized. One thing to add: it seems that the complete domination of blacks in football and basketball explains the seemingly sudden, ugly shift in attitude and behavior of the high-profile NBA/NFL athletes like LeBron and Marshawn Lynch. Now that they, so to speak, “own” these sports they can openly display their formerly dissimulated contempt for the white (predominately) male fans. “We run the plantation now, whitey, get used to it.” And with athletic dominance rising to the level of “ownership” they bring along the odious deteriorating cultural slide downward — the “gangster” prison style in clothing, rap “music”, unrelenting vulgarity and obscenity as standard English. The narcotized mass of white fans has been drawn in so deeply, it seems to be pretty hopeless.

A good analog for this is the SMPY research countering the idea that IQ is only beneficial up to a threshold.

All of the other responses here about Japanese are pretty good, but in fact there are 46 katakana and 46 more hiragana in Japanese, which are usually presented in a grid known as Gojūon 五十音, or “the fifty sounds.” In addition, there are two diacritical marks placed to the upper right of certain kana to alter their sounds so that he へ becomes be ベ or pe ペ, for example.

According to the the list created by the Foreign Service Institute, Japanese is considered a Class V language in terms of difficulty for English speakers, alongside Chinese Mandarin and Cantonese, Korean, and Arabic, but out of that group of most difficult languages, only Japanese rates an additional asterisk: “…usually more difficult for native English speakers to learn than other languages in the same category.” Russian, a Class IV language, also sports the asterisk, as do 7 other languages from Class IV, including Hungarian, Thai, etc.

At least by the standards of the FSI, Japanese could be considered the most difficult foreign language for any English speaker to learn.

I’ve had a recent discussion here at iSteve about Japanese pronunciation of the R sounds in Japanese with a commenter who’d spent a year in Japan as an exchange student, and insists that some Japanese pronounce R sounds as close to L.

Anyway, here’s a discussion about Japanese R vs L. The first commenter links a video, where a Japanese lady is counting Japanese numbers, and states

But on the other hand, when she speaks about numbers(0:38), she pronounces the number 6 with a clear L sound: /lok(u)/, although the romaji spelling seems to be roku.

Here’s the video he’s describing, so you can see and hear for yourself.

I can clearly hear the lady distinctly pronounce “roku” every time, but of course your hearing and results may vary. I had already studied Russian before I began learning Japanese, so I did not have any particular difficulty pronouncing ra ri ru re ro, the R column in the 50 sounds. Russian has a strongly rolled R, where by comparison the Japanese R sounds are rolled but once, and that presented no particular difficulty for me to pronounce as my tongue was already trained to roll Rs.

When pronouncing Japanese R sounds, the tongue vibrates slightly against the palate or roof of the mouth just behind the front teeth, with the lips pursed, in about the same place English speakers place their tongues to pronounce D or T, which are not rolled, but which nevertheless can sound rolled in words like Betty, pronounced “beddy,” which sounds very close to the Japanese pronunciation of beri ベリー, and Petty (“peddy”) which sounds very close to the Japanese pronunciation of Perry ペリー, the infamous USN Commodore who used his menacing flotilla of “Black Ships” to impose Gunboat Diplomacy on the Japanese, forcing them to open their doors to the West after 200 years of isolation, which had been brought about primarily because of the unacceptable activities of Jesuit missionaries in proselytizing for Christianity.

By contrast, L sounds in English are formed with the sides of the tongue touching the palate toward the rear of the mouth adjacent to the molars, with the lips spread. AFAIK, L sounds are never rolled, except maybe for gargling or yodeling.

Neither can most Japanese pronounce L sounds, nor can most English-speaking Japanese even distinguish between English R and L sounds, although some Japanese can learn to pronounce L reasonably well, as our instructor does when she says “lesson,” which the linked commenter hears as “resson.”

Go figure, but not everyone has great hearing.

    Update from a tennis perspective:

Osaka seems like a perfectly nice person and quite endearing, but as a player, she’s a head case. Her athletic abilities are very good, but she’s not any more exceptionally athletic than other up and comers on the women’s tour. She has a more of a man’s take back on her forehand (racquet tip facing the net not the back fence) and she hits hard, but both are becoming more common now on the women’s side.

Her problem is her head. It’s not unusual for men with head issues (collapsing under intense pressure) to get over them as they grow on the tour (Djokovic used to retire during matches when losing and feeling stressed out; Federer used to just flip out), but women almost never do. Serena and Venus would occasionally just not care and barely try, but they would demonstrate that from the start of the match. But if they are committed at the start, they (especially Serena) have never melted down serving 15-40 4-5 in the 3rd set–Osaka has. In fact, Serena is probably the mentally toughest player on the women’s tour since Chrissie Evert–her serve never breaks down. Sharapova could get nervy on serve, but she’s had shoulder trouble. Those that we think of the highest echelon in the women’s game were noted to be mentally tough throughout their development.

So I wouldn’t expect Osaka to overcome that–at least not easily. But who knows–she does seem to have a nice personality and is quite funny.

Japan’s method is actually the Amish method, sorta. They try to “boil off” people who rebel too much – especially visible these days, a lot of women exodus because they find the informal systems too oppressive. Female advancement in Japan is sharply limited and controlled, e.g. female doctors are rare, nurses are common and due to junior programs, often extremely young. The use of context is supposed to advertise/impress what is correct behavior.

The defection scenario in this case is to leave, because it obviously annoys a lot of women to have to deal with that. However, those who remain tends to cooperate. Assuming they don’t go extinct in the next few decades, they should presumably only have cooperators left.

  191. @Anon

Koreans actually are, generally speaking, more physically capable and form the disposable parts of the yazuka. They are foreigners who serve as a semi-permanent underclass, though successful ones can gain an acceptance of sorts.

One major difference really is that the Japanese are, in fact, willing to resort to all manners of informal measures, e.g. when the UN attempted to expand feminism in Japan, they basically stonewalled for years until the bureau ceased to be. The yazuka are a front for an elite, and they sometimes engage in violence against who the elite feel are troublemakers – and it’ll be impossible to prosecute this, the police will cooperate with the yazuka.

The entire system is difficult by purpose, by Western definitions, its really quite corrupt but its so baked in and organized that its effect is very peaceful. An aside of this is that it always screws the salaryman, because the elite is never on your side(even if they have some common goals as you do).

I’ve seen some evidence of this “culture cracking” being successful–in Japanese pro-wrestling. Not a true competition, of course, but treated as a sport especially compared to what we see in the United States. The current top guy is a white, blonde, supposedly gay/bi-sexual man from Canada and was cheered by the majority when he recently won the championship over the native, who is one of the best performers in the history of wrestling. This Japanese guy, by the way, looks like he could be a J-Pop star. This would not have been accepted in the past.

Anyway, the new champ is part of a group/stable that cheats, uses foul language and its membership is almost exclusively Gaijin. They’re wildly popular, which is shocking. In the past, they would have been seen as villains for not only being foreigners, but for being disrespectful and unhonorable. In the past, there have been other Gaijin who have become popular and even legends, but the Japanese have virtually always been the heroes when fighting the foreigners. It should be noted that Japanese wrestling is not as popular as it once was, but they still draw large crowds, good enough to more than half-fill the Tokyo Dome annually.

No. Japan will never go for Black athl etes. @$%&$#% tabket!
    Two words. Ancestor Worship.

LOL. Even if this is true of most Japanese, it doesn’t matter because all it takes is some Japanese women with jungaru feebah. Even if 99% of Japanese women don’t have kids with black men and even if a tiny number do, those half-black kids will kick Japan’s butt in sports, and that will have a huge psychological impact on the nation, especially among the young.

Blacks can dominate with just a tiny number. And this is threatening because blacks take over idol-rich positions. Suppose all those blacks in the UK weren’t athletic or filled with boogie-woogie. Suppose they are only good at some menial jobs or something like accounting. Brits wouldn’t care about blackness and blacks would be invisible in UK and other European nations.
But blacks dominate as rap stars and athletes, and that is why UK is crazy about blackness as the New Britishness. This makes blacks visible than invisible. There was an interesting piece in Amren about blacks and Poland. There is a considerable minority population of Vietnamese in Poland and far fewer blacks. But Polish media are black-crazy. Same with Germany. My Polish friend who grew up in the US but went to study in Poland beamed with pride that some black guy is on the Polish soccer team and is married to a Polish woman. (I called him a Dumb Polack.)

    https://www.amren.com/commentary/2017/09/poland-diversity-tokenism-in-media-omenaa-mensah/

This is why blacks are dangerous. We should know this by from from Canada, UK, and France. And Holland. Even with just a few in number, they kick white butts and take over as the Visible Idols of the nation cheered on by millions who look to sports as the last refuge of tribalism and nationalism. In the US, the tribal culture is ‘our negro heroes’ vs ‘your negro heroes’. Look at all those cuck-college sports.

Tiny Jamaica produces more faster runners than all of China, Russia, India, Mexico, and white Europe. So, even if 99% of Japanese say NO to black Japan, the Iconic Face of Japan can be changed if just a few Japanese women have kids with blacks and raise them in Japan to kick Japanese butt in sports. And then over time, Japanese will get used to cheering for blacks as the representative heroes of Japan. Japan is vulnerable because your average guy is even dorkier than Ken Burns, the ickiest dork-cuck of the West.

Japanese are also like the British in one sense. Their solidarity easily breaks down when the Other is allowed INTO the domain. Brits had two-faceted way of coping. Good manners within the culture, ruthlessness toward outside enemies. Hard shell, soft interior. So, as long as the hard shell kept outsiders at bay, the interior could be nice, polite, and well-mannered. But if the shell lets in outsiders in, the soft interior is at loss as to what to do when the newcomers act out of order. There is a scene in THE GO-BETWEEN. Some working class guy(Alan Bates) goes swimming in the lake of rich folks. And the rich guys grumble about the transgression. But when the guy emerges from the pool, the rich fellers are so afraid to ruffle the feathers and good form that they act like it’s heighty-ho alright for the guy to use the lake. Brits were masculine on the outside, feminine on the inside. So, when the Other was allowed into the inside, the effete side of Britishness didn’t know what to do. Japanese are even more like this. Because they are a race of Yoheis, they can be safe only by building barriers and keeping the gaijin on the outside. They can win as a group, not as individuals. It’s like what Lee Kwan Yu said about Japanese vs Koreans. Koreans can beat Japanese as individuals, but Japanese can beat Koreans as a group. It’s like SEVEN SAMURAI is about farmers hiring samurai to erect a barrier against bandits. Farmers are helpless once the bandits get in.

Now, what is the Kubrickian hole in the Japanese wall. Notice in Kubrick’s movies there is the conceit of the perfect system, but there is the one thing that trips up everything. The Achilles Heel. The plan in THE KILLING survived all the setbacks, but the dog finally messed it all up. The Kubrickian hole in Japan is freedom that Japanese women have and their travels around the world. Also, Japan has its share of cuck-culture among males who imitate rappers and worship all things black. So, it doesn’t matter if 99% of Japan say NO to blacks. These small number of Japanese will welcome blacks and have black kids, and these kids will shoot to the top of Japanese national image in sports. Also, no nation has been so thoroughly penetrated by porn culture than Japan. Pornification of culture happened in Japan long before it happened in the US. Maybe now, Westerners won’t be so surprised by the sexualization of culture, but there were many TV documentaries and news paper articles about how there is a thin line between mainstream culture and porn culture in Japan. So, if jungle fever becomes a fetish in Japanese sex culture, it can spread fast throughout the mainstream culture. Also, like most controllers of pop culture around the world, Japanese pop culture is controlled by globalists, homos, and liberals.

I think this sums up the future of Japan. The Japan Wall will fall to the Negro gun.

Japanese men used to have control over Japanese women. No longer. Japanese fathers let their daughters live in the home and go to night clubs than pressure them to get married.
Look at that idiot father in BABEL.
Also, as Japanese men spent all their time at work, many Japanese kids grew up with a proper father figure. Also, as Japanese don’t talk much, there has been less transmission of family memory to the kids. Before TV, Japanese talked to one another, like in Ozu movies. But with TV, people just stare into the screen filled with cartoonish nonsense. Kurosawa lamented in the 80s that new crop of film-makers know nothing about Japanese history, culture, and don’t read the classics(that inspired films like RAN and KAGEMUSHA). Also, humanism fell out of favor in rich materialistic Japan where pop-nihilism and hedonistic thrills came to dominate the culture. So, the sentiments — a blend of national roots and leftist sympathies — were lost. The recurring theme in Kurosawa films is the need for the elites to connect with the lower depths. He even made a movie called HIGH AND LOW where a rich businessman comes to surrender his fortune to save the kid of his chauffeur. The kid isn’t his but he’s part of the national folk. In SEVEN SAMURAI, the warriors who prefer to serve a powerful lord come to defend a village of farmers. In IKIRU, a bureaucrat finds meaning as he faces death by doing something for kids who played in polluted slums. In RED BEARD, an elite-minded young doctor comes to sympathize with the people. In HIDDEN FORTRESS, the princess, facing execution, says the last few days have meant so much to her because she mingled with the people and saw all that was beautiful as well as ugly about them.

This sense, which used to be at the core of humanism and nationalism in postwar Japan, is gone. As Kurosawa feared in BAD SLEEP WELL, the merchant elites of Japan are scum and only care about themselves. And the young are lost in nihilism, hedonism, and live for momentary thrills than for nation, culture, and family. Pokemon and Porn are the culture of Japan. But then, this is true of so much of the modern world. A world where the biggest moral theme is ‘a man with a dick is a woman if he says so.’ How did things become like this? The disease had spread to Japan.

Televised sports indeed has been a powerful influence in having all races and ethnic groups that compose our society become more closer to our kin, neighbors, and nation. It is undeniable.

By watching televised groups of Negroes representing ‘your’ city, or ‘your’ country, you are led to believe that they are more your kin and country than the white players on the other side of the ball.

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2347988-12-ways-sports-make-a-positiveimpact#slide2

“Traditionally games/sports/whatever took place within a given culture/society, so anyone playing them by definition had what it took to ‘make it’ in that society, whether that be a farming community or a boarding school. But it was also understood as a peripheral activity.”

Here is the reality. Participation in game/sport/whatever, from the Roman Empire to the American southern colonies, had their “haves” and “have nots” when it came to skill and participation. The ability to “make it” depended upon one’s physical prowess and steely resolve. For the Roman gladiator, the stakes were immensely high–life or death–with fortunes won and lost when it came to wagering. In the South in the early and mid-1800′s, horse racing was a favorite past time. Wealthy Southerners liked to trace their ancestry to the English aristocracy, and they viewed horse racing and breeding as aristocratic occupations. If planters willingly battled each other on the racetrack, they did not ride against their social inferiors. Unlike the Puritans who believed sports should serve God, Southerners participated in sports as an outlet for their very secular, materialistic, and competitive urges.

“We had a pool of available blacks who were undeniably more talented than the rest of the population at certain children’s games, along with a stronger commitment to meritocracy than most places. The effects are unsurprising, and catastrophic.”

Human biodiversity at its most beautiful application. Competition, now ain’t that a mother!

“These ‘fans’ spend more time watching the television than actually being out in the world where reality would slap some sense into them. They internalize something completely wrong about the relative value of the races when they watch this stuff; based on an activity that is inherently useless.”

You mean ‘fans’ as in white men and women. So, how do you propose to get tens of millions of “your brethren” on your side when it comes to “race realism” with your virtue signaling when it comes to sports? Perhaps it is YOU who needs a heavy dose of reality to hit that hard noggin’ of yours into its proper place.

“I’m shocked at how many African American manga fans there are. Black dudes in particular love Dragon ball and other action series.”

That’s because manga is filled with both masculine and feminine characters along with traditional narrative tropes – what consumers actually desire, not that SJW propaganda pushed by George Soros-funded media outlets*. Traditional narrative tropes are mostly missing in American superhero comics since Obama won re-election in 2012**; increasingly, they are missing from movies, too. The American comic industry is now run almost exclusively by cheaply paid middle-aged Gen X wimps who draw their characters like androgynous robots and spend all day on Twitter and Reddit complaining about things no normal person cares about: “muh objectification of wymyn” (i.e. females with boobs – gross!), “patriarchy,” “muh Trump,” “feminism,” and “muh Nazis.”

Ask yourself why American comics would ever be popular in this day and age. Well, you’ve got the movies, obviously. But there is a problem. For the most part, American comics don’t resemble anything that people see on screen. They all are or were politically-correct trash until very recently:

15-year-old black super genius female replaces white male Tony Stark as Iron Man; pushy feminist white girl replaces white male masculine Thor (Kryptonite to black nerds); self-absorbed female millennial replaces Bruce Banner as The Hulk; Captain American turned into a closet Nazi as a not-so-subtle allusion to Trump voters – SJWS demand his younger, boyish sidekick be made into Cap’s male lover; masculine black guys like Blade turned into errand boys; masculine Wolverine replaced with a female artwork-implied lesbian; Dazzler turned into an implied-lesbian who does magic tricks to impress girls for dates; Ice Man turned from a heterosexual male into a “Will and Grace” homosexual stereotype – immediately begins to fight with his parents for acceptance as if it were 1995; political extremists like Zoe Quinn given comic books to write that no man would ever buy; a Muslim Ms. Marvel who went around jailing political dissenters – she’s president of the United States in the future, too; a female Captain Marvel drawn like a masculine lesbian…

Just who do these people think they are going to sell these comics to? If you ran a make-up company that catered to college-aged females, what sense would it then make to suddenly switch to making bicycles?

On the other hand, why do many Japanese art forms have an appreciable following in the United States and elsewhere? You’d think that Japan, a far away country with a very difficult language, would be swinging with quite the handicap … or maybe we are the ones with a self-imposed handicap as of late.

Take the Japanese Dragon Ball series as a case study. Ask yourself, “why is this popular?” Well, Dragon Ball is a show revolving around a group of young men who fight with themselves and others in order to get stronger so that they may save the world from whatever evil they are dealing with; that’s exactly the kind of thing guys like. You wouldn’t know that from the American media, though – toxic masculinity and all. The characters in Dragon Ball are also expert martial artists, mostly male, and are drawn to be extremely masculine. The fights are brutal, no holds barred affairs. There are characters who’ve been rejected by their fathers and driven to extreme studying by overbearing tiger moms. There are plenty of heterosexual relationships, guys with crushes on girls, and father figure – son mentors. There’s a comically perverted older character who loves attractive women and porn magazines, science fiction tropes (robots, cyborgs), almost no forced diversity, annoying female characters juxtaposed to our male heroes, trials to overcome, self-improvement themes, and lots of male bonding with friends in the face of overwhelming adversity — all things catering to a traditional male audience. SJW comics have none of that. They are all written by NYC hipster types who don’t want to write for “hu-white males” or Asian guys…or even heterosexual black guys. They spend their time virtue signalling on Twitter.

Dragon Ball is written by the Japanese, for the most part, and imported into the United States so as to keep SJW paws off it. If the same people who wrote American comics or movies were allowed to take over that franchise, they’d outright ruin it, just as they’ve ruined huge swathes of the cultural landscape.

Half of the characters would be female and none of them would be allowed to be flawed or annoying in any way; they’d all be drawn like men with short hair. The main male protagonist would be replaced with forced diversity, probably a mannish female. The masculine elements would be stripped away as the female SJW writers they hired gave interviews to the Huffington Compost decrying toxic masculinity and how they are changing Dragon Ball for the better. Most of the remaining characters would become self-absorbed, self-righteous sociopaths who end up fighting veiled Trump-voting characters. The heterosexuality would be removed entirely – no relationships at all. The females would be drawn like men, and all the men would act like girls.

On the manga/anime front, take Sailor Moon. She’s popular with both young girls and boys. Why? Because she’s a feminine character with long blonde hair and a cute cat for a pet. All of her friends have different hair colors and girly outfits along with magical powers – things that young ladies like. We don’t see much of that from the American comic book industry because it is run by NYC SJW weirdos who don’t represent ordinary people in any capacity and, thus, can’t write what ordinary people want.

Dragon Ball is popular among black nerds for the same reason Dwayne Johnson is popular among white nerds: there is a dearth of masculinity out there and this shortage is only getting worse. Japanese characters are masculine and do the kind of masculine things black nerds imagine themselves doing – like fighting and saving the day/getting the sexy robot girl. Dwayne Johnson is an action star who beats the shit out of people just like white nerds imagine themselves doing; the guy even once made a movie that was really nothing but him walking around and hitting people with a stick.

The other day I was in a large chain book store. The American comic section was very small, just a couple of shelves. However, the manga section was at least 2 rows back-to-back. This didn’t include anime and toys, either. Most of the American comics were additionally back issues aimed at collectors. I didn’t see ANY of the SJW variants they were pushing for the last few years. They must not sell.

One of the manga books I came across was a reimagining of “The Count of Monte Cristo” written by a female Japanese author. It came across to me as a romantic fiction kind of deal for young girls. There’s nothing wrong with that, of course. But that observation right there explained to me why so many younger kids are into and getting into manga and anime like Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon: they appeal to the kinds of things consumers actually want, not what the media tells them they should want so as to be “on the right side of history.”

My only criticism of manga is that much of it is in black and white. If they worked on coloring in more of their work as many graphic novels do, I’d definitely give it a shot. The shelves that I saw seemed to have everything: science fiction (robot stuff, space ships), magic, fighting, strange cultural elements from Japan, stuff for school-aged kids, feminine women and girls, masculine and confident guys…

Once when I was in Tokyo I was accosted by a black fellow who, speaking
with a heavy Caribbean accent, tried to convince me that he had a girl for me.
I finally lost him after a couple of blocks. This transpired in Shinjuku, not
far from Kabukicho, Tokyo’s famous red-light district. Shinjuku itself is
a well-known area, containing the world’s busiest train station, and incidentally
also the hotel where Sofia Coppola’s movie “Lost in Translation” (2003) was
filmed. Not far from the Shinjuku station one sees stacks of the sleaziest child
pornography mags on sale, apparently perfectly legal and on display in broad
daylight. But then we mustn’t forget that Japan is a country dedicated to the
proposition that there is nothing more beautiful in the universe than 12-16 year old
girls. I exaggerate but not by much. The Japanese will protest that this has nothing
to do with befouling virginal girls with male lust – it’s all about “kawaii,” the culture
of cuteness à la Hello Kitty, etc. (But in India, a whole different culture, Mahatma
Gandhi in his later years felt so guilty about the unbridled lust he felt as a youth toward
his 13-year-old bride that he became celibate at 37. Nobody though asked Mrs. Gandhi
how she felt about the arrangement!).

That’s one reason I enjoy visiting countries like France and Japan. They seem so much
like us and yet so different culturally that each visit becomes a never-ending voyage of
discovery. For example, the moment you step off the plane at the Narita airport and get
on an escalator, you can’t believe how smooth and vibration-free your ride is. The same
surprise awaits you when you ride an elevator to the top of the Roppongi Hills Mori
Tower in Tokyo – you barely know you’re moving. A friend who is a Ph.D. engineer tells
me it’s due to the use of fuzzy logic in engineering design. High quality engineering
is definitely a major ideal in Japan.

In the U.S. one can get some sense of the Japanese culture by stopping by the glossy
magazine section at the Mitsuwa Marketplace in Costa Mesa or San Jose.

More generally, it appears that, as evidenced by the falling birthrates, men turning

Who? Whom? Because you have one mighty big non-sequitur on your hands here.

Assuming a normal distribution with mean of 5’10″ and SD of 4″ for male height then 6’1″ is 0.75 SD and 6’5″ is 1.75SD.

6’5” is a lot rarer than 1.75SD. More like 2.6SD. Enter 19.99 as age and 77” as height here:

    http://reference.medscape.com/calculator/height-age-percentile-boys

In terms of serve, the “ideal” height for a male tennis player is “the taller the better.” A 6’2 Federer would serve better than a 6’1 Federer, and a 6’5 Federer would be better still. Of course, even 6’1 Federer rarely loses his serve. But 6’5 Federer would lose even less, and would hold serve more easily. If you can hold serve automatically, you put tremendous pressure on your opponent to hold serve.

Extremely tall men such as Ivo Karlovic have ridiculous serves that can’t be replicated by manlets who are barely 73 inches tall. On the other hand, extremely tall men generally have reduced coordination and mobility (important in an individual match) and are more susceptible to injury (important over the course of a tournament and a career). There are times when you see a taller player dominate in a particular match and you wonder why tennis players aren’t all the size of power forwards. But these taller players tend to have injury or stamina problems, or both.

From the normal distribution CDF we see that ~23% of men will be over 6’1″ and only ~4% will be over 6’5″. So the former outnumber the latter by ~5x.

Per the above website, actually 11.3% of men at age 19.9 are 6’1 or taller, compared to 0.4% of men who are 6’5 or taller. So 6’1 is more than 28x as common as 6’5.

Going by D.K.’s link, the figure of 16% of top 100 players who are 6’5 or taller is 40x their 0.4% presence in the general population of men.

SD of 4″ for male height

I think the standard deviation of height for American men is more like 2.3″ or 2.5″.

It is amazing to recall that Rod Laver was (in his prime) only 5’8″, and his countryman Ken Rosewall was (ditto) only 5’7″!

It’s because of the modern racket, which favors hard hitting baseliners. The old wood rackets were smaller, heavier, and imparted less topspin. You couldn’t hit it as hard with the wood rackets and keep it in the court because there wasn’t enough topspin. That’s why when you watch older tennis matches there’s a lot more volleying. The older game was more about volleying, finesse, and placement, while the modern game is all about power.

Circumstances matter. Our circumstances are not comparable to pre-genocide Rwanda or pre-Khmer Rouge Cambodia.

You think that family relations will matter in a massive social breakdown and separation.  No, people won’t deport or otherwise remove their own grand-relations.  They just won’t have any say in what happens to them.

I agree that if there is a huge social breakdown then anything can happen. I am just not sure that a huge social breakdown is coming any time soon.

Certainly the trend towards the two American political parties becoming primarily defined by skin colour is a warning sign but other than that I just see gradual, glum entropy and atomisation.

Perhaps France will have more of a conflagration.
