Not 'his people'. Michelle's people, perhaps. Obama's personal history is sufficiently odd that he really has no 'people' other than his immediate family and social circle. Just out of puerile curiosity, I'd like to be a fly on the wall when he talks to his sister. I'd wager their relationship is pretty truncated, and she's as close to him as anyone has ever been bar perhaps Mooch and ValJar.

    • Officers were less likely to erroneously shoot unarmed black suspects than they were unarmed whites — 25 times less likely, in fact
    • And officers hesitated significantly longer before
shooting armed suspects who were black, compared to armed subjects who were white or Hispanic.

You know, it's funny when reporters tell us that when we commit violence in foreign lands, we're radicalizing the villagers. Blacks destroying people's livelihoods, people who had zero to do with any of this, will become radicalized against black people, so that when blacks have a legitimate beef, these white folks whose lives were destroyed will just sit back and smile. I want them to fail more. The collective damage they wrought should be paid back collectively. Let them kill each other in their Section 8 dives, in the shitshow they call their "hoods." I love South Chicago. I pray every day for overcaffeinated police.

Blacks demanded entrée into modern civilization, but their balkanized culture can't function collectively under the demands without a white patriarchal system in place, as many had foretold. They're doing collectively worse than before the end of segregation. Think of all the money and lives wasted in an attempt to modify their behavior with generally ridiculous results.

Everywhere around the world, when blacks are beyond a minority, without white or asian supervision, they turn into a sordid spectacular wasteland. Look at aerial views of Haiti vs the Dominican Republic. The DR is lush forest, while next door, Haiti is a burned out war zone. Same environmental premise, wildly different cultural results.

The importation of blacks to America dwarfs the tragedy of WWII. WWII happened in the course of a few years. This is the death of a million cuts, in money, resources, and lives.

Without comprehensive reform regarding immigration from Africa, and a coherent "Tubes Tied for Welfare" program, this problem with no answer will be our great grandchildren's problem with no answer.

I honestly don’t understand why Obama is depressed. Wasn’t this the plan? Stir Blacks up to get them to vote? Have them riot after to win concessions? Hasn’t EVERY OTHER BLACK RIOT won significant, long-reaching concessions from Whites? Won’t this riot win big concessions from Whites in Missouri? Isn’t the Black message in response to the Wilson non-indictment “give us what we want or we burn stuff down and loot?”

Heck here in LA there are TWO groups of marchers, a small one that went from Leinart Park to the Miracle Mile; and on in USC. In Oakland Black protesters shut down a freeway.

Isn’t that a winning hand? Won’t it just cement more privileges and concessions? I am missing something here? Why is this riot different from Crown Heights, or the Rodney King Riots, or Watts, or Detroit, etc?

I always thought Bush lost in part because of the Rodney King Riots, and that Bush II poor response to Katrina enabled the rise of Barack Obama.

I'd forgotten that Crown Heights resulted in Giuliani, but I always figured Riordan won because of the weakness and infighting of Democrats post-Tom Bradley. There wasn't a deep bench after Bradley.

I am still puzzled though. I'm told constantly that Obama and his team are political geniuses, and that they are sweeping from triumph to triumph. Presumably the riots and coverage were predictable given that Holder stirred it up. So what do they expect?

I thought that perhaps Obama was disappointed the riots were not bigger. So he could not declare a nationwide state of emergency and issue even more executive orders: like seizing suburbanite guns.

    1. I feel terrible for Officer Wilson. Most people are traumatized by shooting and killing another human being, even a deserving one. On top of that, he has had to deal with this circus of the mob and its media enablers/whores. His life has been turned upside down dramatically and tragically, all because he did his duty to attempt to apprehend criminals (after assisting a sick child, which was the original dispatch). He will likely lose his job (he’s allegedly negotiating a departure from his department) and he will have to check six the rest of his days.

    2. Many people in the leftist media are either insane or viciously callous/evil. Some of them continue to push the “unarmed black boy gunned down by a white cop…is a very troublesome thought” routine. “Gentle giant” and all that.

    3. Live and work far away from any sizable concentration of blacks (or Hispanics to a lesser degree, for that matter). Anytime an encounter with a black person goes awry, you will either be hurt, dead or be a racist to be hounded and hunted down by the media, the government, and street thugs all working in concert.

    4. Be armed – still better to be tried by twelve than to be carried by six. Goes double for your loved ones.

    5. Record when going armed. Tiny, wearable digital recorders are inexpensive and can be erased nightly. Morons and insane people will still call you a racist, but you might, just might avoid much of the circus when you have audio recordings of what transpired.

    6. And finally, this is why I prefer Korean immigrants over Indian/Pakistani immigrants (though I prefer very few immigrants of any kind in the first place):

But that is assuming the current political culture will continue into the future rather than fall apart. I'm convinced now that we're at the end of this era. Have a look at the CNN video and you see the shabby end of a 50yr project and a 50yr old theory on how to solve the American Negro Question (the name of the project obviously had to be changed several times as it went on). Like someone said in a recent podcast "the 68ers cannot reproduce culturally", ie. their "culture of critique" can only leave alienation, staleness, stupidity and surliness behind them. The dumpy girls with pink hair, tattoos and nose rings won't be writing any history books about this time, some white guy will be doing that whether she angrily tweets about it or not.

There's really no excuse to remain ignorant. The Grand Jury testimony is on line. It's totally damning of the lies the "media witnesses" told ("on his knees," "hands up," etc.)

The blood evidence and ballistics evidence show clearly that big Mike Brown was half inside that SUV.

Cut to the chase--the blood evidence, blood that dripped from the gun shot wound Brown received when he was half in the police SUV--clearly shows his path away from the SUV then back toward the officer, all evidence that matches the witness testimony in the GJ proceedings.

    Anyway, read the damn thing.

    , @Rapparee
President Obama's presidency has followed, in some respects, a weirdly similar trajectory to that of President Bush the Younger:

-When he first was proposed as a candidate, anybody who cared could have easily seen that he was an under-qualified leader with either a poor track record in executive management (see Bush the Younger's rather mediocre private sector career), or a nonexistent track record (see Obama's never having held a real job in his life). Despite these admonitory résumés, each was promoted, nominated, and elected on the basis of his paternity.
-He deliberately courted a base of "People Like Me" to whom he was superficially similar, but with whom he actually had little-to-nothing in common. For President Bush the Younger, this was White, Southern, Evangelical Christians, though the real creed of the (New England-origin) Bushes is lukewarm, liberal-ish mainline Protestantism (Dubya wouldn't be allowed to teach Sunday school at a serious Evangelical denomination). Likewise, President Obama has but a tenuous marriage connection to American blacks.
-He started an unnecessary and totally pointless war during his first term in office.
-His flagship achievement (Obamacare, the Iraq Attaq), though initially popular amongst some supporters, became a nightmare of incompetence, corruption, and waste. Later revelations proved what opponents had suspected all along- that the public case was built on lies and deception from the very beginning.
-Despite growing public dissatisfaction, he won reelection over a tall but rather dull and boring opponent from Massachusetts.
-In the mid-terms of his second administration, the opposite party won Congress handily while his approval ratings continued to plummet.

A lot of this is perhaps normal and expected- a typical two-term president, for example, is less popular in year 7 of his administration than he was in year 1. Other parallels, though, are more specific to these men. Contrast Bill Clinton, who was not blessed with favorable paternity, being the son of an insignificant traveling salesman- he clawed his way to the top by sheer personal charisma and chutzpah, a kind of "President Harold Hill". Granted, he was a sleaze, but an immensely talented one. It says a lot about 21st-century American political culture that two such unqualified men should be repeatedly handed the nuclear launch codes and the powers of the highest office in the land.

Perhaps that's why I don't feel as much Schadenfreude as I would like over President Obama's troubles. It's great that he's finally being exposed as a lazy, self-absorbed windbag, alienated from his nation and filled with resentment toward the historic American majority. Anybody would have known the same thing, though, had he bothered to read a copy of Dreams from My Father, like I did back in 2005, or read the content of the man's old speeches, or listened to some of Jeremiah Wright's sermons, or looked at his Illinois voting record. The fact that almost nobody in the United States bothered to do any of these things does not bode well regarding the next inhabitant of the oval office. The problem is not President Obama, the problem is a broken political system that put him in office twice. Does 2016 promise Round Three of this nonsense? We shall see.
    , @Rapparee
It's interesting how this video encapsulates the original political tactic used to bring the Great Society's bureaucratic progressive welfare state into being. Listen to the President's words:

"Americans... are deeply disappointed, even angry. It’s an understandable reaction... [T]hose who are only interested in focusing on the violence and just want the problem to go away need to recognize that we do have work to do here and we shouldn’t try to paper it over. Whenever we do that, the anger may momentarily subside, but over time, it builds up and America isn’t everything that it could be."

Subtext: "Give more power, money, and prestige to liberal social programs, social workers, and bureaucrats, or you'll have another riot on your hands".

Sound familiar? It does if you've read Mau-Mauing the Flak-Catchers, or if you know how President Johnson reacted to the Watts Riots: http://millercenter.org/presidentialclassroom/exhibits/president-johnson-and-martin-luther-king-jr-on-the-watts-riots.

This is in essence the same tried-and-true formula that's been used to aggrandize the Managerial state since the '60s- "We burned your city down last night, we are quite prepared to fight, unless you pay us cash to go away" . What's interesting is that the formula seems to be running into severely diminishing returns. If anything, the 1992 LA Riots probably made voters less inclined toward Great Society-type measures, and mostly engendered welfare reform and longer prison sentences. Perhaps this Ferguson nonsense may eventually induce Americans to stop paying the Dane-Geld entirely.

So he's about 90 pounds lighter than Brown and in a much less powerful fighting situation (sitting vs. Brown standing).

It seems Brown was never intimidated by Wilson, even after the gun was drawn, as evidenced by the line "You're too much of a pussy to shoot me." Not to mention Brown returned unarmed in the direction toward the armed policeman who had just shot him twice during the struggle in the car.

For all the talk of "police violence" and "cold-blooded" police behavior by undertow blacks claiming to be helpless victims, they don't seem worried enough to avoid confrontations with said police. The behavior of the rioters point to this as well.

It doesn't matter. One punch can kill you whether you are a "diminutive 72-year-old man" or not -- if you are stunned and fall back and hit your head (as you note), it can cause a serious brain injury that leads to death. Or if the punch is powerful enough it could conceivably cause the kind of injury that killed Sarah Burke. Or some other brain injury. Especially with a guy as big as Brown. And Wilson was out of his car when he shot Brown, who was apparently charging him. So if he did not stop him -- somehow -- maybe he would have been punched again. Or have serious dad issues. They are about 12 times more likely to murdered by their partner. Escaping that, vastly more likely to be divorced (if marriage occurs which it really doesn't too often). Black men are for the most part, such a terrible bargain, that I can only lay any mass "falling" to an epidemic of mental illness. Except that it doesn't occur. The more whites are around blacks, the LESS likely they are to become intimate or marry. Only the ones from places with few blacks think they are above "prejudice" and get involved. You left out illegal possession of a firearm (in several of the many gangbanger wannabe photos he posted/texted).

By the way, it is an unfortunate commnplace for the children of decent and succesful Negros to turn bad as appears to have happened in the Martins' case. This pattern is much more common among Negros than Whites. I suspect this is due to both regression towards the mean and the poisonously anti-social culture that Negro teenagers are immersed in these days.

So then according to your own words, Trayvon didn't have an excuse for getting into trouble. Unlike the typical ghetto thugs, Trayvon should have lived up to his family standards (e.g. academically good enough for college, staying out of trouble, a good all around kid, etc). Instead he didn't and was possibly on the way to the gang thug life. Also, this family background would put Trayvon near the talented tenth.

I've noticed that blacks seem to really struggle with the whole actions --> consequences thing. They can concoct elaborate scenarios in which, because Wilson didn't actually know Brown had just committed robbery, Brown therefore DIDN'T actually commit robbery, or that robbery is now irrelevant. Walking down the middle of the road while high? Sure, but Wilson could have asked in a nicer way, therefore it was his fault.

The very simple fact that St. Trayvon and Unarmed Gentle Giant would be both be alive if they'd just kept their hands to themselves is lost on them. I've had multiple otherwise seemingly reasonable black Americans answer with some form of "yeah but" when I point this out. Its usually some litany of the ways the dead youths were "disrespected". They truly seem to be demanding a right to be allowed to react violently to perceived slights and then have there be no consequences. If the attacked party is able to defend himself, they expect to have the altercation stop at that point..."ok its a tie, let's go home".

Frankly I don't know that there is much "dialogue" to be had or compromise to be sought. One side is demanding the right to violently attack anyone that "disses" them without fear of consequences, and the other side isn't agreeing to it...what is there to discuss?

As for the decision of this President, and the White House political team, to put him on TV live, associating him with these images, at first blush it seemed an amateurish misstep. Odd for a President six years in. After all, politics 101 counsels otherwise. Bush was much more circumspect during Katrina and, especially, the Financial Crisis. The latter being the closest analogue in my view. In such circumstances, President’s look weak, and inevitably a locus of anger across the spectrum. In the instant case, the Vessal was filled not with Hopes, but Disappointment and Division. I doubt blacks were any more thrilled with him last night than anyone else.

The obvious alternative was that he waited until this morning. Previous Presdients would have waited at least that long. However, this first black president is intimately associated with Fergusion, and more than a little hubristic.

History books will contain lines like “Despite the achievement of electing the first black president, the 2010s were a time of widespread danger for young black men from Florida to Missouri to Califiornia…”

The guy on the left side of the screen was supposed to solve the problem on the right side of the screen just by being the colour he is, with the exotic name he has, while in that job. Transformative magic was supposed to happen and it hasn't. Magic was supposed to happen in international affairs too but the Mocha One has failed there as well.

They were certain it was the stale, pale and goy males who were ruining everything and their removal would bring something wondrous. They thought we'd be hitting new heights once we had a few generations of university grads liberated from eurocentric patriarchy but all we have is universities and cultural institutions full of surly girls and gays going on their mobile devices to witch-hunt.

The fact that CNN chose to run his press conference with the split screen coverage of the riots says something. It also says something that they chose to put this clip on their site. Even CNN producers are done with him. Obama's presidency will be remembered as the shabby end of a mega-project.

Whisky makes a good point in his comment where he points out how blacks have benefitted from black riots, committing crime and destroying things. They’ve gotten an accelerated and expanded welfare state, Section 8, preferential treatment in hiring along with quotas, all those government jobs, endless amounts of resources thrown at them to close the various gaps, the list is endless. Crime pays.
Jefferson at #15 says any whites left in Ferguson must be “broke as hell” and can’t afford to move to white-opia. Not every white person is a millionaire who can move whenever they please. They’ve got money sunk in those homes. A good number are older people who are now caught up between a rock and a hard place. White-opias are expensive places, that’s why the people there can afford to be such heartfelt liberals. There’s also something inherently wrong with this situation of whites constantly having to be on the run. When do the tables get turned?

I suspect this is due to both regression towards the mean and the poisonously anti-social culture that Negro teenagers are immersed in these days.

Hasn't EVERY OTHER BLACK RIOT won significant, long-reaching concessions from Whites? Won't this riot win big concessions from Whites in Missouri? Isn't the Black message in response to the Wilson non-indictment "give us what we want or we burn stuff down and loot?"

Heck here in LA there are TWO groups of marchers, a small one that went from Leinart Park to the Miracle Mile; and on in USC. In Oakland Black protesters shut down a freeway.

Isn't that a winning hand? Won't it just cement more privileges and concessions? I am missing something here? Why is this riot different from Crown Heights, or the Rodney King Riots, or Watts, or Detroit, etc?

Obama is depressed because a crisis is being allowed to go to waste.

I read an article (can't find it now) that interviewed two (white) construction workers. One said Brown came up to him (this was on the way to the market, so before he committed the robbery/got shot), and began mumbling about Jesus Christ. The best explanation for an unarmed man to charge a cop who's already shot him is that he was high as a kite and/or mentally ill.
    , @BubbaJoe

He said Brown struck up a rambling, half-hour conversation with his co-worker....

Brown “told me he was feeling some bad vibes,” the co-worker told KTVI in a video that aired Aug. 12. “That the Lord Jesus Christ would help me through that as long as I didn’t get all angry at what I was doing.”

The worker interviewed by the Post-Dispatch said he paid attention to little of the conversation. He said he heard Brown tell his co-worker that he had a picture of Jesus on his wall; and the co-worker joked that the devil had a picture of him on the wall.

The co-worker told KTVI that Brown promised to come back and resume their conversation; Brown walked away, and the workers returned to their job.

Even CNN producers are done with him. Obama's presidency will be remembered as the shabby end of a mega-project.

President Obama’s presidency has followed, in some respects, a weirdly similar trajectory to that of President Bush the Younger:

-When he first was proposed as a candidate, anybody who cared could have easily seen that he was an under-qualified leader with either a poor track record in executive management (see Bush the Younger’s rather mediocre private sector career), or a nonexistent track record (see Obama’s never having held a real job in his life). Despite these admonitory résumés, each was promoted, nominated, and elected on the basis of his paternity.
-He deliberately courted a base of “People Like Me” to whom he was superficially similar, but with whom he actually had little-to-nothing in common. For President Bush the Younger, this was White, Southern, Evangelical Christians, though the real creed of the (New England-origin) Bushes is lukewarm, liberal-ish mainline Protestantism (Dubya wouldn’t be allowed to teach Sunday school at a serious Evangelical denomination).

Contrast Bill Clinton, who was not blessed with favorable paternity, being the son of an insignificant traveling salesman- he clawed his way to the top by sheer personal charisma and chutzpah, a kind of “President Harold Hill”. Granted, he was a sleaze, but an immensely talented one. It says a lot about 21st-century American political culture that two such unqualified men should be repeatedly handed the nuclear launch codes and the powers of the highest office in the land.

Perhaps that’s why I don’t feel as much Schadenfreude as I would like over President Obama’s troubles. It’s great that he’s finally being exposed as a lazy, self-absorbed windbag, alienated from his nation and filled with resentment toward the historic American majority. Anybody would have known the same thing, though, had he bothered to read a copy of Dreams from My Father, like I did back in 2005, or read the content of the man’s old speeches, or listened to some of Jeremiah Wright’s sermons, or looked at his Illinois voting record. The fact that almost nobody in the United States bothered to do any of these things does not bode well regarding the next inhabitant of the oval office. The problem is not President Obama, the problem is a broken political system that put him in office twice. Does 2016 promise Round Three of this nonsense? We shall see.

He also said he felt like "a five-year-old holding on to Hulk Hogan," even though he is 210 lbs and exactly as tall as Brown. He goes on to describe how Brown only became angrier and stronger with each shot he fired. This seems relevant.

So he’s about 90 pounds lighter than Brown and in a much less powerful fighting situation (sitting vs. Brown standing).

It seems Brown was never intimidated by Wilson, even after the gun was drawn, as evidenced by the line “You’re too much of a pussy to shoot me.” Not to mention Brown returned unarmed in the direction toward the armed policeman who had just shot him twice during the struggle in the car.

For all the talk of “police violence” and “cold-blooded” police behavior by undertow blacks claiming to be helpless victims, they don’t seem worried enough to avoid confrontations with said police. The behavior of the rioters point to this as well.

  86. Hal says:

There seems to be this idea that an encounter with a policeman and an encounter with a civilian should follow the same rules. They do not, they cannot, and therefore they should not.

A civilian is charged with civic responsibility. When a sufficient number of civilians shirk this responsibility, chaos ensues.

A policeman is charged with restoring civil society where there has been a breakdown. Thus, their job is to “police” civilians.

There seems to be a great deal of amazement over the fact that officer Wilson told Brown to get out of the middle of the street, but it was his duty to do so.

There seems to be amazement that officer used deadly force when Brown charged him, but from the moment Brown had attacked the officer in his car, punching him in the face and trying to take his gun, officer Wilson had a reasonable expectation that his life was in danger.

Brown’s response to the Wilson’s (lawful) command to get out of the middle of the street was to escalate the situation to physical assault. What is the reasonable expectation regarding Brown’s behavior if he has turned around and is approaching the officer? Is it reasonable to assume he will again try to take the officer’s gun? It is, and for this reason, unless Brown continued to flee or was on his knees with hands up, he has placed his own life in danger.

Those who would condemn officer Wilson for doing his job correctly are demanding that he would have risked his own life on the hope that Brown’s behavior would have suddenly changed. They are also making another fundamental mistake.

Policemen must be able to control situations in order to protect the public. When a civilian defies a lawful order, they endanger not just the police, they endanger society. Police cannot allow individual civilians to challenge police in the same way they challenge other civilians. In this case, where it may have been lawful for a civilian to have a gun and use it against a charging Michael Brown, is was imperative that officer Wilson do so.

    It was his job.

There’s really no excuse to remain ignorant. The Grand Jury testimony is on line. It’s totally damning of the lies the “media witnesses” told (“on his knees,” “hands up,” etc.)

The blood evidence and ballistics evidence show clearly that big Mike Brown was half inside that SUV.

Cut to the chase–the blood evidence, blood that dripped from the gun shot wound Brown received when he was half in the police SUV–clearly shows his path away from the SUV then back toward the officer, all evidence that matches the witness testimony in the GJ proceedings.

I disagree with him on motivations, looking to have fun versus hating the wrong kind of whites, but he’s mostly right on this. Remove them from the equation and Ferguson ends up mostly like that incident with kid who was choked to death in NYC who was much more sympathetic than the Gentle Giant who “hugged” that convenience store clerk.

White liberals are to the wrong kind of whites what misogynists are to fecund women: haters that cannot think rationally and thus keeping getting shocked, outraged, and making fools out of themselves. If it can help push a narrative before an election, great, but it won’t matter a whit because animal spirits have taken over.

    Ghetto thug trash Trayvon Martin

Martin's mother is a mid-level civil servant and his father is a long-haul truck driver. Also in his mix was his paternal uncle, who's a retired Army NCO. His brother was a college student ca. 2012. (His stepmother's employment has not been reported in the press. She seems quite unremarkable in interviews). He came from an average family. His bad behavior included burglary, academic failure, and drug use, not (before he got himself shot) anything notably violent.

So then according to your own words, Trayvon didn’t have an excuse for getting into trouble. Unlike the typical ghetto thugs, Trayvon should have lived up to his family standards (e.g. academically good enough for college, staying out of trouble, a good all around kid, etc). Instead he didn’t and was possibly on the way to the gang thug life. Also, this family background would put Trayvon near the talented tenth.

So, this is an example of regression to one’s group’s mean.

How black guys see ‘white boys’. I’ve seen this attitude since I was a kid in city school in 1970s.
Black guys respect white guys even less than white guys respect yellow guys.
In a white vs yellow fight, 7 times out of 10, whites will win. But in a white vs black fight, blacks will win 19 out of 20 or more.

A one on one fight with black guy squaring up against a white guy who is comparably sized, would not result in a black win even close to 19 out of 20 times...

Blacks typically start the fight with a sucker punch, before the white guy even realizes that a fight is going to happen, after which the black guy is also typically helped out by 2 to 15 of their friends. In that case, sure, 19/20 for the blacks.
    , @Jus' Sayin'...

But in a white vs black fight, blacks will win 19 out of 20 or more.

I suspect that you don't hang with the right white guys. The construction workers I know regard blacks as pussies. They can't handle a real, labor intensive job. They usually shirk the hard stuff like pick and shovel work and often can't handle it when they try. About a third of white guys try the work and can't handle it. The similar figure for Negroes seems to be about three-quarters. (In fairness, Hispanics seem to handle any work you throw at them.) In a one-on-one fight my working class white male friends usually expect to leave a Negro street-thug crying.

Of course, Negro thugs often rely on swarming and sucker punching. When this happens all bets are off.

Notice that massive immigration lowered the share of white population drastically but black share of the population has still gone from since the 60s.
    In 1960, it was 9 to 10%. Today, it’s 15-17%.

So, if there had been no non-white immigrants, what would the black share of the population be today? 30%?

As long as whites refuse to have kids, I wonder if immigration is better than no immigration as the black population keeps rising. Better to have US turn into big Mexico than big South Africa.

But then, there is African immigration. And immigration from Haiti. Yuck.

The black population 1790-1850 was about 15-20%, so take away mass immigration of any race and it would be reasonable to forecast a USA of about 80-85% white, the rest black.

Ron Unz looked some at where Blacks behaved well versus badly and I think it’s a great topic for more exploration. He found the only place outside the South where color did NOT predict crime was NYC. As I mentioned before, and pointed out with the Zimmerman/Trayvon thing, the South was left alone when it came to vandalism and riots… despite Sanford being on the periphery of the Deep South!

I have discovered that I have a lot of black cousins :) (from 23andme) They live mostly in the South. They seem to be mostly middle-class and working class (a highly selected group no doubt). Given a shared history that goes centuries back, deep roots in their places that also goes back hundreds of years (Imagine the Gullah burning their place down…unthinkable), and that we are literally related, those factors alone go along way to explaining why the South doesn’t have a Watts, L.A., Ferguson, etc. The urban blacks dislike whites the most, are wilder, and I could see them wanting to join a riot, but their roots are so deep in their cities.

"Weren’t conservative sites claiming that Darren Wilson had a busted eye socket?"

Yeah, he doesn't look banged up that badly. But when an officer with gun is attacked in anyway, it's serious business. Blacks routinely push whites around, but they generally restrain themselves with white cops as cops have guns and laws on their side. If blacks figure they should treat white cops like they do white civilians, it means big trouble. This Brown clown obviously thought he could treat a white cop like a black defensive lineman with Peyton Manning.

And I think even most blacks by now what actually happened. They are really angry because white cops don't act like white civilians. When blacks attack white civilians, whites just cower and beg mercy. This is such a reality of life that blacks see it as the natural way of things or HOW THINGS SHOULD BE.
Wilson violated that assumption by resisting Brown's violence and defending himself with the gun. This angers blacks because their 'right' to rule over frightened whitey has been violated. White cops don't act like white civilians who pee in their pants and cower and don't even fight back to defend themselves.

Blacks are bigger and stronger than white folks. If they weren't, Wilson might have subdued Brown through other means. But as Brown was big and strong, the only recourse left for Wilson was to draw his gun or get his ass whupped. (It's often a zero sum game with blacks. Get whupped real bad or use extreme force that might be lethal. It's like if a bear charged you, you have to either kill it or be mauled by it. There is no middle ground between the two extreme options.) As blacks are used to seeing whites get their ass whupped by blacks, they see it as the natural way of things. It's like a big dog expects a weaker dog to cower. It's the natural alpha-beta dynamics.
But white cops violate this rule with the power of law and power of gun. White-police-power-against-blacks violate not the ideal of racial equality but the reality of black domination over whites. Blacks grow up in schools whupping or intimidating white boys. So, how 'unjust' it must seem to them that a white cop has effective power against blacks.

Blacks have little regard for laws or books or culture. Their basic view of society is based on physicalism and sexualism. Men are judged by their fighting ability and women are ho's.
It's like Brown stole cigars on the assumption that no one better stand in his way. He didn't see it as evil. He saw it as natural. He be black and masterful. Rap music is now American culture and says blacks are the masters of the universe and white girls put out to blacks and white boys are wussies who either try to emulate blacks or cuckold themselves out. So, if blacks want something, it's natural that they get it. But Wilson refused to budge and finally shot a charging Negro giant.
Blacks be so pissed. That aint no way for a white boy to act. He supposed to cower. Dang!
Blacks see white cower as natural. Not white power.

PS. Wilson doesn't seem that badly damaged.. but there could be serious internal damage without pronounced outward signs. We see this in boxers. After the fight, they don't look banged up that badly, but they could have suffered some serious injury inside.
  98. Why does everyone have to stress how “tragic” it was that Brown died? He brought it on himself.

Right. During his announcement prosecuting attorney McCulloch must have lamented Brown’s death three or four or five times. (Other than that, he presented well. He responded forcefully to the questioner who claimed that cops were killing blacks “with impunity”.)

But on the larger issue of white cops and the black underclass; perhaps they deserve each other.

Everyone knows that cops can be dicks. Which is why anyone with half a brain, who ends up having to deal with them, does not provoke.

Guys like Brown don’t have half a brain. Instigating with a cop is ipso facto stupid. Being a teenager on drugs, and part of the black underclass – those things are not necessarily damning. But Brown, he was not able to defer to the police and now he is dead.

The police are not righteous, and the order they have to enforce is full of problems. Even down to simple things like pedestrian right-of-way. A kid walking in the street; if it is his neighborhood, how the hell is he supposed to get from point A to point B? sidewalks are a joke. Perhaps Wilson was being an asshole, and didn’t need to apprehend someone for jaywalking. Except for that Brown matched a description from the convenience store robbery.

The grand jury did its thing. As they are supposed, they reflect what is going on in society at large and underneath. Black hostility and white resentment; the underclass street versus the law and order middle; the pressures from the political class and the media and their narrative as opposed to the emerging zeitgeist of middle America which is angry.

The grand jury did not indict. I am not going to spend three months studying the evidence, that is what they are for. Using juries composed of citizens is an effective measure of social justice. The jury system is the best means of getting near to Justice. It was designed to effect the Spirit of the Law. Is it corrupted by race dynamics? sort of maybe but.

But to repeat, the problem is policing guys like Brown who don’t have half a brain. About 10 years ago some Somali was shot down and killed in West Bank, Minneapolis. He was in the street with a machete and wouldn’t put it down. At the time i was more liberal minded and thought they overreacted. But now? Please.

After Crown Heights, NYC voted in Giuliani twice and then Bloomberg three times, while LA voted in Rick Riordan twice after the 1992 riots.

I always thought Bush lost in part because of the Rodney King Riots, and that Bush II poor response to Katrina enabled the rise of Barack Obama.

I’d forgotten that Crown Heights resulted in Giuliani, but I always figured Riordan won because of the weakness and infighting of Democrats post-Tom Bradley. There wasn’t a deep bench after Bradley.

I am still puzzled though. I’m told constantly that Obama and his team are political geniuses, and that they are sweeping from triumph to triumph. Presumably the riots and coverage were predictable given that Holder stirred it up. So what do they expect?

I thought that perhaps Obama was disappointed the riots were not bigger. So he could not declare a nationwide state of emergency and issue even more executive orders: like seizing suburbanite guns.

Obama's unholy troika of Feminism, Ferguson, and Foreigners always had a volatile element to it, especially the Ferguson part. The lowest risk was with Feminism where the risk was agitating men to the point where they would start forming their own conscience opposition, something which appears to have begun happening. The Foreigner part, Obama risked waking Nationalism, but that was somewhat measured and tested. It will take time for this to be felt. But with Ferguson, the risk was losing control of the black mob something which was immediate and extreme. The fires from this will only burn out after all the fuel is gone.

I'm no scholar but I heard on the radio that the word tragedy has two definitions. Originally, in ancient Greece, a tragedy meant an inevitable downfall caused by one's own faults, and I think that Shakespeare's tragedy's generally fit the bill. In modern times tragedy came to mean an undeserved downfall. Yes it's true that the people calling Brown's death a tragedy are implying that it's undeserved so I'm being a bit of a pedant here, but his death agrees with the original usage of the word, just his life wouldn't be interesting enough to make a dramatic production out of.

That's your delusional self image - Man of Reason. Typical of Aspergy nerds like you.

In fact you have quite a bit of trouble with counting and facts and the concrete especially when it conflicts with your female-phobia and your Judeo-phillia.

You consistently have problems coming to terms with the fact that the majority of married White women vote Republican and didn't vote for Obama. You consistently have trouble admitting the high percentage of single white men who voted for Obama and vote democrat. You simply wont count, wont deal with the concrete. Because it contradicts your irrational and paranoid biases.

I mean you think WASPs control Hollywood. How insane is that?

I don’t believe in original sin, secret knowledge, or casting out of sin by scapegoats or uncovering witches.

Actually you do. Your female-phobia and judeo-philla indicates that you really do believe in a kind of original sin rooted in female sexuality and any criticism of God's chosen People. You do believe in scapegoating women's sexuality as the cause of the fall of man (women hate hate hate beta males/only like bad boys and jerks/are hypergamous etc etc), the fall of America and the fall of The West.

So yeah you do believe in uncovering witches - in other words WOMEN. Especially White women.

I’ve noticed that blacks seem to really struggle with the whole actions –> consequences thing. They can concoct elaborate scenarios in which, because Wilson didn’t actually know Brown had just committed robbery, Brown therefore DIDN’T actually commit robbery, or that robbery is now irrelevant. Walking down the middle of the road while high? Sure, but Wilson could have asked in a nicer way, therefore it was his fault.

The very simple fact that St. Trayvon and Unarmed Gentle Giant would be both be alive if they’d just kept their hands to themselves is lost on them. I’ve had multiple otherwise seemingly reasonable black Americans answer with some form of “yeah but” when I point this out. Its usually some litany of the ways the dead youths were “disrespected”. They truly seem to be demanding a right to be allowed to react violently to perceived slights and then have there be no consequences. If the attacked party is able to defend himself, they expect to have the altercation stop at that point…”ok its a tie, let’s go home”.

Frankly I don’t know that there is much “dialogue” to be had or compromise to be sought. One side is demanding the right to violently attack anyone that “disses” them without fear of consequences, and the other side isn’t agreeing to it…what is there to discuss?

Contrast Bill Clinton, who was not blessed with favorable paternity…- he clawed his way to the top by sheer personal charisma and chutzpah…

I think we are all so immersed in the media today that our perceptions are just terribly terribly distorted by the inclinations of that encapsulating machine, which inclinations, a hypocritically as possible, are to incite conflict and division. Because of course that’s what gets the most paying eyes and ears.

Consider how very very limited even the initial outburst was after this shooting. Not country-wide; not even Ferguson-wide. And what there was was lots of just a very relatively few looters obviously not all that interested in “social justice.”

And yet the impression was that all of black America was up in arms. The same as last night: Up in arms in defense of a thug, which, clearly, very very little of black America was. Just like most of white America this listened, and considered.

But of course it seems that the majority of black and Left *media* persons were certainly up in arms, and this is why I blame the media so much. In an absolute color-blind fashion.

Consider further: Remember back when the Trayvon Martin matter was hot? And, again, you had lots of conflict lovers on the screen and in the airwaves? Well just at about the same time in some little town in the Carolinas if I’m not mistaken a little white girl was snatched by some crazy pervert, and an alert went out to the community to keep an eye out for the description of the car that was given. And some very young, very keen black kid was with his buddy riding their bikes when he spotted the car and he and his friend gave such wild, determined chase the crazy pervert got scared and shoved that little girl out of his car and took off, later to be caught.

Well, who remembers the names of those great black kids there? Not only had they done that crazy, wonderful thing, they were both so telegenic and cute it was amazing. And yet … how come the media didn’t make *them* poster children of the black community, instead of gang-banger thugs like the Martin youth, and Michael Johnson?

Or, to put an even finer point on it, how come the media loudmouths who profess to want white America understand the virtues of black America so much didn’t even so much as notice these wonderful youngsters much less imprint their names on our memories?

We are fools if we allow ourselves to be divided by supremely self-interested loud-mouths, a class that, so far as I can see, is just as welcoming to whites as it is blacks if not even moreso.

If you ask me the division between whites and blacks in this country pales in comparison to the division between the average American of any color or creed who is *really* interested in just getting along and especially the elite members of our major-media class at least, who resemble nothing so much as moths to the slightest flicker of violence and animosity and division.

A pox on ‘em. A pox on ‘em all. White, black, Left, Right.

"It seems to me too many of the comments here are wrongfully adjudging the entire black community here with the sins of what are, after all, only a very very few."

It's true that the majority of blacks are not overtly violent, but there are other problems: dysfunctionalism, deception, petty theft, corruption, lack of conscience, lack of self-criticism, self-centeredness, etc.

Just like little goods add up to a big great good, little bads add up to a big great bad.

It's like a snow storm is made up of lots of little snow flakes. The overall effect is cumulative.

So, even if most blacks are not like violent Brown, they are problematic in small ways, and all such bogusness add up.

A one on one fight with black guy squaring up against a white guy who is comparably sized, would not result in a black win even close to 19 out of 20 times…

Blacks typically start the fight with a sucker punch, before the white guy even realizes that a fight is going to happen, after which the black guy is also typically helped out by 2 to 15 of their friends. In that case, sure, 19/20 for the blacks.

His bad behavior included burglary, academic failure, and drug use, not (before he got himself shot) anything notably violent.”

Are Black kids in America so bad behaved that Trayvon Martin was considered a “good kid” by Black standards of behavior ?

By White standards of behavior, a White version of Trayvon Martin would be considered White trash.

Obama’s unholy troika of Feminism, Ferguson, and Foreigners always had a volatile element to it, especially the Ferguson part.

    Does anyone have the numbers?

What would be the percentage of blacks in America if not for immigration.

Notice that massive immigration lowered the share of white population drastically but black share of the population has still gone from since the 60s.
    In 1960, it was 9 to 10%. Today, it's 15-17%.

Yuck.

What would be the percentage of blacks in America if not for immigration.

The black population 1790-1850 was about 15-20%, so take away mass immigration of any race and it would be reasonable to forecast a USA of about 80-85% white, the rest black.

His actions in charging a cop seem crazy. I humbly suggest that he was in fact crazy. My guess is that he had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic some time in the past.

All the facts have not been released yet. Expect some more surprises.

I read an article (can’t find it now) that interviewed two (white) construction workers. One said Brown came up to him (this was on the way to the market, so before he committed the robbery/got shot), and began mumbling about Jesus Christ. The best explanation for an unarmed man to charge a cop who’s already shot him is that he was high as a kite and/or mentally ill.

History books will contain lines like “Despite the achievement of electing the first black president, the 2010s were a time of widespread danger for young black men from Florida to Missouri to Califiornia…”

The fact that CNN chose to run his press conference with the split screen coverage of the riots says something. It also says something that they chose to put this clip on their site. Even CNN producers are done with him. Obama's presidency will be remembered as the shabby end of a mega-project.

It’s interesting how this video encapsulates the original political tactic used to bring the Great Society’s bureaucratic progressive welfare state into being. Listen to the President’s words:

Americans… are deeply disappointed, even angry. It’s an understandable reaction… [T]hose who are only interested in focusing on the violence and just want the problem to go away need to recognize that we do have work to do here and we shouldn’t try to paper it over. Whenever we do that, the anger may momentarily subside, but over time, it builds up and America isn’t everything that it could be.

Subtext: “Give more power, money, and prestige to liberal social programs, social workers, and bureaucrats, or you’ll have another riot on your hands“.

Sound familiar? It does if you’ve read Mau-Mauing the Flak-Catchers, or if you know how President Johnson reacted to the Watts Riots: http://millercenter.org/presidentialclassroom/exhibits/president-johnson-and-martin-luther-king-jr-on-the-watts-riots.

This is in essence the same tried-and-true formula that’s been used to aggrandize the Managerial state since the ’60s- “We burned your city down last night, we are quite prepared to fight, unless you pay us cash to go away” . What’s interesting is that the formula seems to be running into severely diminishing returns. If anything, the 1992 LA Riots probably made voters less inclined toward Great Society-type measures, and mostly engendered welfare reform and longer prison sentences. Perhaps this Ferguson nonsense may eventually induce Americans to stop paying the Dane-Geld entirely.

“Contrast Bill Clinton … he clawed his way to the top by sheer personal charisma and chutzpah …”

Not really; he became President courtesy of Ross Perot.

Brown’s dead. Such a remark would have been tasteless.

I don't mean for him to say it in the words I used, just some expression of support for law enforcement and the life-and-death difficulties they face. Why does everyone have to stress how "tragic" it was that Brown died? He brought it on himself. Would it have been less tragic if he was shot by some other Michael Brown type or by a storeowner he was robbing? Why are we supposed to value the black bodies of Micheael Browns? I find it bizarre.

That aside, Brown did not knock Wilson’s life off the rails, a combine of sensationalizing media, local hoodlums, and professional loudmouths did that.

I understand your point, but putting someone in a position that they have to shoot you IS knocking their life off the rails. I read an interview with the LA jeweler, Lance Thomas, who shot and killed five robbers in the course of four armed robberies at his store before he closed down the business. He bitterly resented the fact that "they made me a killer." It was not his choice.

Not that I have any good thing to say about the dead thug, but some people do have no remorse after killing someone in that kind of situation.

Lance probably thought having to fight them all the time was not worth his trouble.

A question I’ve been meaning to ask you for a long time, Steve.

If it is true that blacks suffer from lower intelligence, what is our duty to them, in terms of charity and support?

Zero. Our duty to white children, and their children, and so on, is to smash the Delusion of Equality that is being used to target them for punitive taxation. This is the duty of all good people, not just whites, but it’s our children who are being targeted.

[Donte Gobriel] Must be another parody account. Surely you’re not this stupid.

It’s Zithead back in form again.

Unfortunately, Sam’s Meat Market finally bought the farm last night in the rioting. Burned to the ground by his neighbors.

If you’re a property owner in Ferguson and your insurance is paid up, a black riot can be a Godsend.

How badly do you think you have to beat a cop before he shoots you? Is it ok to land a few light punches? Personally, I’m not taking any chances.

Morons gotta go “duh,” I guess. People who have thought through what carrying a gun means know that it means you can’t just get into 1-on-1 fisticuffs with people capable of overwhelming you. Because they’ll take your gun (something the giant psycho had already made a pretty good attempt at), kill you, and maybe go and kill someone else, too. But you can’t explain this to a moron, because they’re too stupid to understand.

But in a white vs black fight, blacks will win 19 out of 20 or more.

I’m no scholar but I heard on the radio that the word tragedy has two definitions. Originally, in ancient Greece, a tragedy meant an inevitable downfall caused by one’s own faults, and I think that Shakespeare’s tragedy’s generally fit the bill. In modern times tragedy came to mean an undeserved downfall. Yes it’s true that the people calling Brown’s death a tragedy are implying that it’s undeserved so I’m being a bit of a pedant here, but his death agrees with the original usage of the word, just his life wouldn’t be interesting enough to make a dramatic production out of.

They usually shirk the hard stuff like pick and shovel work and often can’t handle it when they try. About a third of white guys try the work and can’t handle it. The similar figure for Negroes seems to be about three-quarters. (In fairness, Hispanics seem to handle any work you throw at them.) In a one-on-one fight my working class white male friends usually expect to leave a Negro street-thug crying.

In other words, don't go into a Church's Chicken at 12:30 am looking for a fight. Make him get straight A's in high school instead.
  133. I think the jury did the right thing, but the mean-spiritedness towards Brown’s family in these comments is nauseating. To be expected here but still nauseating.

It’s Brown’s family that are nauseating. They are nauseating, hateful and ferociously anti-white. I am very grateful that officer Wilson acted appropriately and shot Michael. All criminal scum who assault police officers deserve the same.

    Does anyone have the numbers?

What would be the percentage of blacks in America if not for immigration.

Notice that massive immigration lowered the share of white population drastically but black share of the population has still gone from since the 60s.
    In 1960, it was 9 to 10%. Today, it's 15-17%.

Yuck.

We heard a few weeks ago that Michael Brown's police record was so short because his juvenile record was being withheld. But we still haven't learned about his mental health record or his police record.

His actions in charging a cop seem crazy. I humbly suggest that he was in fact crazy. My guess is that he had been diagnosed as a schizophrenic some time in the past.

All the facts have not been released yet. Expect some more surprises.

He said Brown struck up a rambling, half-hour conversation with his co-worker….

It seems to me too many of the comments here are wrongfully adjudging the entire black community here with the sins of what are, after all, only a very very few, and thus I thought I'd repeat a comment I made over at the National Interest focusing on another group, so to speak, that I think needs lots more criticism:

I think we are all so immersed in the media today that our perceptions are just terribly terribly distorted by the inclinations of that encapsulating machine, which inclinations, a hypocritically as possible, are to incite conflict and division. Because of course that's what gets the most paying eyes and ears.

Consider how very very limited even the initial outburst was after this shooting. Not country-wide; not even Ferguson-wide. And what there was was lots of just a very relatively few looters obviously not all that interested in "social justice."

Well just at about the same time in some little town in the Carolinas if I'm not mistaken a little white girl was snatched by some crazy pervert, and an alert went out to the community to keep an eye out for the description of the car that was given.

And yet ... how come the media didn't make *them* poster children of the black community, instead of gang-banger thugs like the Martin youth, and Michael Johnson?

Or, to put an even finer point on it, how come the media loudmouths who profess to want white America understand the virtues of black America so much didn't even so much as notice these wonderful youngsters much less imprint their names on our memories?

We are fools if we allow ourselves to be divided by supremely self-interested loud-mouths, a class that, so far as I can see, is just as welcoming to whites as it is blacks if not even moreso.

If you ask me the division between whites and blacks in this country pales in comparison to the division between the average American of any color or creed who is *really* interested in just getting along and especially the elite members of our major-media class at least, who resemble nothing so much as moths to the slightest flicker of violence and animosity and division.

Blacks typically start the fight with a sucker punch, before the white guy even realizes that a fight is going to happen, after which the black guy is also typically helped out by 2 to 15 of their friends. In that case, sure, 19/20 for the blacks.

So, Black Men should be punished for retaliating against baby soft white boys?

Just because white guys can't fight doesn't mean Black Men are criminals.

This is one of the many reasons why white girls are attracted to Black Men.

please go away troller queen. White girls are not attracted to black men in any numbers, and the ones that are, are mostly deranged to some degree. Not all, but most. Strange look in their eyes. Or have serious dad issues. They are about 12 times more likely to murdered by their partner. Escaping that, vastly more likely to be divorced (if marriage occurs which it really doesn’t too often). Black men are for the most part, such a terrible bargain, that I can only lay any mass “falling” to an epidemic of mental illness. Except that it doesn’t occur. The more whites are around blacks, the LESS likely they are to become intimate or marry. Only the ones from places with few blacks think they are above “prejudice” and get involved. With generally bad, and predictable results.

You know terrapin, in the first place the white race's *other* kinds of "problems" are legion, and we ought to be sophisticated enough to recognize that to a significant degree at least our estimation of what "problems" are more common, and worse, and etc., etc., is influenced by the particular individual cultural/racial bubble within which we all dwell.

Or, to put it yet another possible way, what the hell is wrong with all the ... up-tight, more-righteous-than-thou-despite-being-manifestly-insecure, obsessively materialistic-and-status obsessed-to-the-point-of-Prozac-dependant whites?

I haven't been a particular fan of his, but if he is going to speak honestly about race and crime in the country that would put him head-and-shoulders above the rest of the wimps. Perhaps as VP he could pick Rep. Mo Brooks, who talked about the War on Whites.

The one problem I have with Giuliani's statement is that he said, “Ninety-three percent of blacks in America are killed by other blacks" when he meant “Ninety-three percent of blacks who are murdered in America are killed by other blacks." The way he expressed it makes no sense.

  151. his death agrees with the original usage of the word, just his life wouldn’t be interesting enough to make a dramatic production out of.

In the original definition the tragic hero had to be of noble character, but fatally flawed in some way. You can’t have a tragedy about a low-life thug.

It seems to me too many of the comments here are wrongfully adjudging the entire black community here with the sins of what are, after all, only a very very few.

Yes, but the majority of good people in the black community seem unable or willing to rein in their miscreants. Lawrence Auster expressed his thoughts on this in his essay, “The Evolution of One Person’s Views on Racial Differences in Intelligence”:

A corollary of this lack of orientation toward objective facts and ideas is the relative intellectual and moral passivity of blacks. While there are many decent, upright black people, there is a notable failure on the part of blacks effectively to resist the bad people in their communities. The result is that the bad people—the orators, the hustlers, the corrupt, the despots—always seem to rise to the top. That is why black countries, and black-run cities in America, are the way they are. There are good people living in those places, but for the most part they are only good in their private, familial sphere. They are not actively good in the social and political sense and thus rarely take leadership or succeed in creating a civilized political order. The number of morally courageous and principled blacks who actively resist the corruption and racialist conformism around them is very limited; in fact, such upright and intelligent blacks often separate themselves from the black community when they recognize how unwelcome they are in it.

I don’t know – the witness ID seems pretty iffy. You know, “They all look alike to us.”

Or, in yet another, what the hell is wrong with all the whites that they have so little "tribal" loyalty that so leads their politicians to so obviously take advantage of them and rip them off so patently?

And in the second look at some other peoples and cultures that in essence have been just torn asunder by history/modernism/whatever, such as, say, indigenous American peoples. *Something* happens to a people when such a civilizational trauma is inflicted. Beyond noting the obvious dilemma of being put into the ego-challenging position of either ... trying to remain true to one's own people or "capitulating" and trying to assimilate, and some deep psychic humiliation, I don't know how else to describe it. But it's clearly there, in a terrible fullness.

And I think that at least some moral imagination is helpful here. Maybe in the simplest form of ... which color would you rather be when stopped by a cop: Black or white? Which color would you rather be in the innumerable daily instances in which you, as a minority, have to deal with a person of the majority persuasion, of personal interaction involving or requiring some level of trust?

Or in broader form of "There but for the grace of God (in terms of where and what color of skin I was born in) go I," no?

“You know terrapin, in the first place the white race’s *other* kinds of “problems” are legion”

I done lived life and say black folks be in a category all their own when it comes to causing problems.

But that aint the real problem. Bigger problem be which color of folks be usually acting wild and crazy. Black problem not be about being stopped by the police but doing stuff that make folks call the police.

Some more general comments, mostly directed at folks who seem to harbor the view that Officer Wilson didn’t seem beaten up enough to warrant the use of deadly force.

    1. You can’t judge the extent of injury from photographs. Sometimes very minor facial lacerations can bleed like a faucet, making the injury seem much worse than it actually is. Other times serious brain trauma will show little external injury or inflammation AT FIRST. When I was a teenager, my head was soccer-kicked in a brawl (well, actually, not so much of a brawl but a beat-down by a posse). I showed very little signs of injury until the next day when I showed melons growing from my head. Sometimes swelling takes a bit of time.

    2. A large number of police officers who are killed on duty are murdered with their own guns. They struggle with a perpetrator (or perpetrators), fail to retain their sidearms, and then are shot with their own guns. That’s why weapon-retention is a very important and sensitive topic to cops. Frankly, if you go for a cop’s gun, you should expect to be shot and shot many times. For that matter, if you go for anyone’s gun, you should expect to be shot mercilessly. Reaching for someone’s weapon is a clear demonstration of the intent to seriously harm or kill that person. Deadly force in return is reasonable.

    3. “Killing an unarmed person” is a ridiculous phrasing of the statement that reeks of prejudice. An officer has no knowledge that a perpetrator (esp. one who has displayed aggression already) is unarmed. Most light body armor protects reasonably well against handgun rounds but offer considerably less protection against bladed or spiked weapons. The traditional police training and lore (based on a bit of testing, Google “Tueller Drill”) is that an attacker with a blade within a 21 foot radius can inflict serious harm or death on an officer before he can get off a shot. See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9igSoJHEdUo.

If an officer sees a man charging at him visibly armed or not (again, already having demonstrated a murderous intent), he is going to shoot, and he should. The moral lesson here is that you should not attack police officers, period. It’s helpful to not escalate any routine encounters by refraining from verbally lashing out or cursing at the officer, for that matter. Remember that an officer only has a split second to judge your intent. Any sign of aggression or even frustration is a big red flag that mentally raises the ladder up the “force continuum” for a police officer.

    4. Now, I suspect this is rather a commonsense for most white and Asian folks. But it appears that a lot of young black males (and females too) just don’t understand the consequences of violating this common sense. For youths who supposedly receive a lot of “whoopin’” from their moms and grandmas, they sure seem to expect a lot of indulgence from strangers of older male authority figures who wield deadly weapons and whom they just provoked or attacked.

Just to take a case in point, my home town, which is a metropolitan settlement of ordinary dimensions (tract development encompassing 650,000 people, or about a third the size of greater St. Louis). The black proportion is proximate to national means, supplemented with a modest Puerto Rican and Dominican set. Neighborhoods with elevated crime rates have a population of just north of 100,000. Most of this is slum, but a great deal of it consists of area of variable character adjacent to the slums. The local police identify two islands with a population which sums to about 60,000 as the core slums. That's less than 10% of the total dense settlement and no more than 6% of the whole metropolitan region which has blocs of tributary rural areas and small towns. There has not been much 'tipping' going on in the last four decades (there was in the first 25 years after the War), merely some incremental neighborhood change over a generation and a half. The coarse areas which have seen incremental neighborhood change are in an arc on the north side of town with a population of about 75,000 and people move in and out of that area for all the reasons people move. I've heard complaints from people of Lithuanian/Polish extraction about what happened to their old neighborhood and it is somewhat shabby now (but its not hard to find worse).

People leave core cities for life-cycle reasons, most particularly avoiding inner-city schools. Those types of moves have a racial component (though there are other reasons to move to suburban tract development). The thing is, 70% of the population of the urban settlement lives in the suburbs nowadays and people commonly live in suburbs their whole lives (or limit their core city residence to a few years of apartment dwelling in their youth).

The impression that I’ve always gotten about the “21 foot rule” is that it refers to a subject with a holstered weapon. The idea being, a typical assailant with a primitive weapon can travel 21′ before a typical defender can draw, aim, and fire. But maybe I have the wrong impression. Either way, while I can’t speak for anyone else, I feel confident I can get off quite a few shots at an assailant 21 feet away if my gun is out and pointed at him.

And to whom from Brown’s family should I be gracious? His mother, who bore and raised the thugling, or the step-father, who screamed “Burn this bitch down!” at a recent rally.

Yep. And not only did Brown take a bullet (or two) in the hand for his efforts, he also started to run away, then turned and charged the cop. He was a dangerous, violent criminal who, fortunately for someone (or several someones), chose a hard target.

It just occurred – maybe Brown was doing some thinking, though. He was bleeding profusely from the wound, and it might’ve occurred to him that Wilson would follow the blood trail to his home or the hospital, even if he did manage to elude him in a foot chase. Maybe he figured he was going to be caught for sure if he didn’t put Wilson down.
