From the NYT, yet another try by reporter Amy Harmon to straighten out this whole DNA-race problem:

Geneticists Criticize Use of Science by White Nationalists to Justify ‘Racial Purity’

An image from a video showing men chugging milk. White nationalists are using genetic research — like the ability to digest lactose in milk as adults — as a sign of racial identity.

By Amy Harmon, Oct. 19, 2018

Oh, boy, more milk stuff.

In an unusual statement on the role of science in the resurgence of white supremacy in America, the American Society of Human Genetics on Friday denounced “attempts to link genetics and racial supremacy.”

The statement, which appears in the November issue of the group’s scientific journal, The American Journal of Human Genetics, said the concept of “racial purity” was scientifically meaningless. The group has about 8,000 members and is the largest professional organization of scientists who study human genetics.

As newly visible and often-virulent groups of white nationalists have invoked genetic research to claim racial superiority, some geneticists have suggested that the field was not doing enough to counter the claims.

Some white nationalists have used research on the ability to digest lactose in milk as adults as a sign of racial identity. And some white nationalist messaging falsely suggests that the existence of genetic markers in people whose ancestors came from different continents mean there are genetic distinctions in behavioral traits like intelligence.

Though science is not much in evidence when white nationalists take to the streets chanting slogans like “You will not replace us,” scholars of racist ideology say contemporary white racism draws on the trope of “natural” racial hierarchy used to justify the enslavement of African-Americans, the American eugenics movement in the early 20th century and Nazi “racial hygiene” laws.

The topic has been much discussed on the side at the group’s annual meeting this week.

“As human geneticists, we cannot ‘just focus on our research,’” one geneticist, Melissa Wilson Sayres of Arizona State University, said Thursday night on social media. “We cannot pretend that our research isn’t being misused. Doing so is being actively complicit with white supremacy/nationalism.”

The statement by the genetics association came after an article in The New York Times examined how scientists who study human genetic diversity were struggling to respond to the racist misuse of science, even as their tools to discover how human populations vary genetically become more powerful.

In a widely read Op-Ed in The New York Times earlier this year, the Harvard geneticist David Reich wrote that “arguing that no substantial differences among human populations are possible will only invite the racist misuse of genetics that we wish to avoid.”

Uh, Reich didn’t say that there are “no substantial differences” — he said claiming that makes you sound dumb.

The genetics group’s statement is a step toward trying to equip the public with the tools to understand the evolutionary processes that give rise to patterns of human genetic diversity, geneticists said. It explains that genetic variation between human populations is linked to patterns of migration and the mixing of populations throughout history. Given how much mixing has occurred, it says, the white supremacist notion of racial purity is “scientifically meaningless.”

Wait a minute, I thought that Carl Zimmer in the NYT had proven, using Science, that Senator Elizabeth Warren is vastly more Native American by ancestry than the white American average? According to Carl, only 2.7% of self-identified white Americans have any identifiable Native American DNA, so therefore Senator Warren’s claim to be a Native American is really rather justified. But now we are told that so “much mixing has occurred” …

This is hard to keep straight in my head. I think we need about another several weeks worth of articles keep this topic alive. I suggest: “Why Elizabeth Warren Proves that Race Does Not Exist But Nonwhites Deserve Racial Quotas, You Despicable White Person, You.”

It also explains a distinction between race and ancestry that geneticists say has been muddled by the rise of commercial ancestry tests.

“Although a person’s genetics influences their phenotypic characteristics, and self-identified race might be influenced by physical appearance,” the statement said, “race itself is a social construct,” meaning it has no biological basis.

Read my lips: “No biological basis.” No means NO!

“Black,” for instance, is a socially defined term that includes many Americans who have a majority of European ancestry.

See, if we ignored the people who self-identify as black despite being majority white, then the average differences between the Census’s categories of black and white would be smaller! (Oh, wait, did I get that backwards? … Huh … I hadn’t really thought this through before … Everybody says this all the time so I just assumed it made sense, but now …)

The statement encourages human geneticists to begin engaging with the public on questions of race, ancestry and genetics.

“In public dialogue, our research community should be clear about genetic knowledge related to ancestry and genomic diversity,” it says. “There can be no genetics-based support of claiming one group as superior to another.”

Okay, here is what appears to be the Official Statement from the American Society of Human Genetics:

Genetics demonstrates that humans cannot be divided into biologically distinct subcategories. Although there are clear observable correlations between variation in the human genome and how individuals identify by race, the study of human genetics challenges the traditional concept of different races of humans as biologically separate and distinct. This is validated by many decades of research, including recent examples.

It’s almost as if different races are not different species that can’t interbreed.

Most human genetic variation is distributed as a gradient, so distinct boundaries between population groups cannot be accurately assigned. There is considerable genetic overlap among members of different populations. Such patterns of genome variation are explained by patterns of migration and mixing of different populations throughout human history.

So a Malaysian and a Norwegian are just the opposite poles of a gradient. According to Google Maps, it would only take 2,492 hours to walk from Oslo to Kuala Lumpur. Nothing to see here, just move along, folks.

Of course, up through 1491 some of these gradients were more like an unbridged oceans. For example, West Africa and Brazil were only 1600 miles apart but there’s virtually zero evidence of anybody ever crossing the South Atlantic up through 1491.

In this way, genetics exposes the concept of “racial purity” as scientifically meaningless.

On the other hand, don’t you pasty white plain vanilla white Republicans dare claim that Elizabeth Warren isn’t particularly American Indian. She’s vastly more Diverse than you’ll ever hope to be.

It follows that there can be no genetics-based support for claiming one group as superior to another. Although a person’s genetics influences their phenotypic characteristics, and self-identified race might be influenced by physical appearance, race itself is a social construct.

Didn’t you hear what we said: “It follows”? If you can’t follow plain logic like “It follows,” that’s your cognitive genetic weakness, not ours. We understand those two sentences even if you are innately incapable of ever understanding them.

Any attempt to use genetics to rank populations demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of genetics.

And that’s why NFL cornerbacks and Olympic 100 meter dash men are so racially random.

The past decade has seen the emergence of strategies for assessing an individual’s genetic ancestry. Such analyses are providing increasingly accurate ways of helping to define individuals’ ancestral origins and enabling new ways to explore and discuss ancestries that move us beyond blunt definitions of self-identified race.

So don’t take anybody’s word for their race before granting them affirmative action racial preferences. Always demand a DNA test!

Wait, that’s backwards …

Never use a DNA test!

Unless you are a Democratic presidential contender. Then DNA tests are Science!

The media are true believers. If race, and genes more generally, have significant determinative force, leftism is a silly illusion. If genes are irrelevant, leftism is (quite correctly) the means to address the apparently great injustices inherent in birth, i.e. who one’s parents are. Imagine admitting you’re wrong about beliefs you have held strongly, centrally to your identity, for most or all of your life.

I want corporate and university reeducation sessions based on those concepts to end. I’d like to see primary, secondary, and post-secondary school tracking based on cognitive ability, as tested with standardized tests, legalized. I’d like to see disciplinary actions be allowed despite racial non-proportionality. I’d like to see kids tracked out of education into vocational programs or jobs when they have reached their cognitive ceiling despite racial disproportionality; we can get them their free breakfasts and lunches at some other location besides the schools. I’d like to be able to hire employees using psychometric testing instruments, i.e., IQ tests, as a major input. I’d like to see racism and hostile work and education environments against whites punished on the same basis as racism against blacks.

For all this to happen, it needs to be recognized that relative to blacks, whites are different, and different in some ways that some people might consider superior.

If we need a certain amount of explicit affirmative action for social peace, I can accept that. And if, after a half a century of failure, there are still some social scientists who want to spend their time looking for environmental causes and fixes for cognitive and behavioral gaps, go ahead and use some of my tax money for it, but keep the experiments corralled in limited areas until they are absolutely proven to work, and don’t, for instance, force white kids across the entire country to put up with “acting out” black kids, as part of a massive social experiment.

It is also being employed as a way of using white people’s own sense of fairness (and their misguided cultural relativism) against themselves.

If DNA tests show that someone is 80% white and looks white, most WN’s are fine with that. They don’t care if someone has a bit of black or Indian blood.

In an unusual statement on the role of science in the resurgence of white supremacy in America

What she means is White Emancipation, mainly from Jewish Supremacism. There is no white supremacy. So-called ‘white supremacists’ do NOT want to lord over other peoples. They readily admit that some races are better than whites at certain things. Some argue that whites should seek independence from blacks because blacks are tougher and more dangerous. Some argue that Asian immigration isn’t a good idea because smart Asians may gain advantage over whites, like the Jews have done. So, these are not white supremacists but white emancipationists who want whites to live in a secure world of their own without being threatened by black muscle superiority or Jewish/Asian brain superiority. They are calling for lording over others but emancipation from others.

But Jews defame it as ‘white supremacy’ because white emancipation from Jewish supremacism means Jews won’t have a support system for their power. After all, the Jewish head depends on the the white body, like in Wars for Israel. Jewish Supremacy defames white wish for independence from Jewish supremacy as ‘white supremacy’ because Jews need white submission to Jews to maintain their supremacy. One thing for sure, Jews see Palestinians as distinct from Jews and insist that whites support Israel against Arabs.

How is it supremacism when white people don’t want to rule over other peoples, indeed when they fear being lorded over or bullied by other races? White emanicapationists fear black muscle supremacy in streets and sports. They fear Jewish supremacy in brains, wit, and cunning. They are anxious about Asian superiority in academics. Whites want to be secure in their own world. They are White Securists, not White Supremacists.

As newly visible and often-virulent groups of white nationalists have invoked genetic research to claim racial superiority

Who? I didn’t hear such from Jared Taylor or Richard Spencer, not even Gregory Johnson. Nor from Kevin MacDonald. Maybe some extreme neo-Nazi groups say that, but they’ve been saying that crap forever long before DNA testing.

Harmon is a liar. White emancipationists never say whites are superior to other races. They say whites have certain advantages and disadvantages vis-a-vis other groups. Clearly, whites are disadvantaged with blacks in sports but advantaged in brains. With Jews, whites are disadvantaged in brains, slightly advantaged in brawn. White Nationalism is not about supremacism and lording over others. It’s about whites having a world of their own and leaving others alone and others leaving whites alone.
Also, if non-whites want to abandon their own nations/communities and move toward whites, it seems non-whites are the ones who see whites as preferable and superior for whatever reasons. After all, they prefer whites over their own kind. Why did Jews always favor white nations over non-white ones for immigration?

And some white nationalist messaging falsely suggests that the existence of genetic markers in people whose ancestors came from different continents mean there are genetic distinctions in behavioral traits like intelligence.

Even Liberal geneticists have reluctantly admitted this is true, even if grudgingly. Harmon is either a liar or a retard. More genetic discoveries will prove group differences in IQ are real.

The statement by the genetics association came after an article in The New York Times examined how scientists who study human genetic diversity were struggling to respond to the racist misuse of science, even as their tools to discover how human populations vary genetically become more powerful.

Scientists are cowards and scared of PC. What we have is a PC and anti-racist misuse of science. Science is clearly on the side of race-ism. Distinct groups have evolved over 10,000s of yrs in different continents. It is obvious to the eye and picked up by DNA testing. It is PC anti-racist misuse of science that tries to deny this overwhelming fact.

Given how much mixing has occurred, it says, the white supremacist notion of racial purity is “scientifically meaningless.”

Yeah, but not all mixtures are the same. Just like orange juice mixed with strawberry juice is different from prune juice mixed with grape juice. Both kinds are mixed but mixed of different juices. Just because both are mixed doesn’t mean they aren’t distinct from one another. Surely orange-strawberry will taste very different from prune-grape.
Black Africans are mixes of various black Africans. Japanese are mixes of various Asian types. Surely, a Slav-Germanic mix is different mix of Ugandan-Kenyan. Surely, the Ashkenazi mix of European-Semitic is different from mix of certain tribes in Indonesia. Same with alloys. Steel mixed with aluminum is distinct from copper mixed with lead. Both are mixed but that fact alone doesn’t disprove distinctions among mixedness.
Even today, surely a Mexican is different from a Egyptian because their mixes are different. A Mexican is likely to be a mix of Spanish and Meso blood. Egyptian is likely to be a mix of Arab and Hamitic blood. Even with mixings, there are distinct groups. Hungarians are mixes of European and ancient Magyar(who might have been Asiatic), but they are still distinct.

Also, while no group is totally pure, some groups are surely purer than others. Only an idiot would say Japanese are not purer than Mexicans or Japanese-in-Brazil who mixed with others. Some groups are genetically more homogeneous than others. Surely, a coal-black African is more pure(if not totally pure) than Obama who is 50% white. Also, mixed-racism is sold as a supremacist ideology. Some Jewish guy said Japanese should mix with others because offsprings will be taller. That is height-supremacy that says Japanese are inferior for being shorter. But if race is just a social construct, why does the mixing of races lead to superiority? Funny that mixing of a social construct with another social construct leads to the biological fact of the superior mixed breed.

“Although a person’s genetics influences their phenotypic characteristics, and self-identified race might be influenced by physical appearance,” the statement said, “race itself is a social construct,” meaning it has no biological basis.

Okay, how about we say ‘race’ is a social construct but geno-phenotype is a biological reality? We’ll just call it geno-pheno from now on. Race is unreal, but geno-pheno is real. I can live with “I’m the only true geno-phenomist.”

Most human genetic variation is distributed as a gradient, so distinct boundaries between population groups cannot be accurately assigned.

We can play this game with all species. I mean there are overlaps all mammals. Dogs got two eyes, two ears, one tongue, rows of teeths, milk-giving teats, vagina or penis, anus, and etc. You see, humans are not totally distinct from dogs. There are overlaps in genetic design. So, species is a social construct. Hey Harmon, go play fetch for the globo-homo elites, you doggy.

One of the key precepts of Leftism is to prevail By Any Means Necessary. This means that if something is a Leftist goal, they will invent rationalizations to justify that goal. Sometimes these rationalizations require us to say that race is genetic and other times we are required to say it is the exact opposite, depending on what they are trying to rationalize at any particular time. Usually they don’t have to reconcile the two – they just talk about them separately so you don’t see the contradictions.

However, when someone like Amy Harmon tries to present a sort of Unified Field Theory of Race and DNA, they wind up tying themselves in knots because then they are forced to reconcile the irreconcilable. Reading this column is like watching an intellectual train wreck. Just as happened in the Soviet Union, the Left has been in charge here and has suppressed dissent for so long that they are intellectually flabby and mediocre due to lack of intellectual exercise.

I agree with this. I honestly also agree with the statement that no race is “superior” to another. I think there should be a fundamental human dignity. All people who are already in the US as citizens should maintain equality before the law. More fundamentally, saying one race is the best and another is the worst is like saying that the finches on one island of the Galapagos is the best and the finches on another island are the worst. More reasonable is saying that one race has higher predisposition to exhibit a certain phenotype, like intelligence or athletic ability, which they certainly do. Since every race is adapted well to one environment it seems like each race will be exceptional in some phenotypes and not in others. Some phenotypes are more advantageous to life in a modern western society than others, but are they “better”and “worse”? I say no. I wouldn’t do very well with a bone in my nose in the New Guinea highlands, or hunting dikdiks with the San, or harvesting seal blubber with the Eskimos. Are those now marginalized folkways any less human?

Notwithstanding, it seems like we should be able to organize our society, our laws, and our borders in a way that we as a nation see fit. Even if all people were genetically identical, it would still make sense that the richest nation in the world of 300 million would not want to give cart blanche to the other 7 billion to come in.

There is considerable genetic overlap among members of different populations. Such patterns of genome variation are explained by patterns of migration and mixing of different populations throughout human history.

When he heard the self-styled witches’ coven was planning to put a curse on Kavanaugh, Thomas – a bona fide Rome-trained Catholic exorcist who was profiled in The Rite: The Making of a Modern Exorcist, film and book – stepped up to defend the judge from the forces of evil.

s the official exorcist for the Diocese of San Jose, Father Thomas has been casting out demons for 12 years. During that time, he says, he’s seen the forces of evil becoming “more confident that the general public will be more accepting of the demonic,” blaming freedom of speech and freedom of religion. “Conjuring up personified evil does not fall under free speech,” he added.

Any attempt to use genetics to rank populations demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of genetics.

This is, fundamentally, true. Just because blacks are the best sprinters and Asians the best test takers doesn’t mean one race is better than another… Just different.

The left could save everyone some embarrassment if that became the party line (people are different but fundamentally deserving of respect) rather than their current reality denying tactic that’s just causing resentment and making them look stupid. If they did, we could actually get down to solving the hard problems of what to do when close to 40% of the population is unfit for jobs in a technological society rather than mouthing pieties about more minorities in STEM.

But the genetic testing services have found that self identifed blacks are 25 percent white, on average, while self identifed whites are 95 percent white, on average. So there is a purity gap that must be closed!

I think what the various white whatsit groups want is a clear majority of white identified people, to maintain the culture, including norms of social and community behavior, and to populate the mid-levels of companies and organizations with people who are smart enough and ethical enough that the organizations will run smoothly, to everyone’s benefit.

Within this framework, minorities can fit in and succeed very nicely, under the watchful eyes of whites.

“Blacks in charge” or “Mexicans in charge” are not scenarios we want to experiment with. While we’re at it, let’s avoid “Asians in charge,” although it would be better than the others. London clubs are literally Nazi:

Allegations of discrimination are rising, including stories of black women being rejected for being ‘too dark’ or charged more than white customers

The near absence of any ethnic group from a social space in London is unusual enough for a city with a 40% non-white population. But it is all the more surprising in nightclubs that – as Drama and many other high-end Mayfair establishments do – play almost entirely black music [does that mean shitty rap? ed.]. Those who claim black people are being deliberately excluded are becoming harder to ignore.

TripAdvisor reviews of the past few years report clubs including Libertine, Drama and Cirque le Soir splitting up mixed groups of friends, with only the white members allowed in. “Eww, your kind isn’t allowed in here,” one girl reports a staff member telling her and an Asian friend. Other reviews of some Mayfair clubs dating back to January 2017 include the headlines “undercover Nazis” and “Racist Club! No black people allowed!”

But in a society where British people of colour face discrimination at work, racist abuse on the streets and even deportation, do unpleasant experiences at a handful of nightclubs really matter?

40% of the population are ritually abused every single day and even deported.

… on social media, the young woman’s mother, TV producer Nadine Marsh-Edwards, said: “My daughter went to a club in the West End last night. Black girls got charged £20 entrance fee – white girls £10 … London life right now. They need to be reminded it’s London 2018 not Mississippi 1962.”

At least with most religions, you only have to sit through a sermon once a week. Here, it’s relentless to the point of desperation.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.

The PC klan says we need the differences that are inherent in different races, but those differences are not to be found in any biological differences? Our “diversity” comes from the vapors that surround culture?

Sure, anything that exists as an analog or continuum will do – day/night, the color spectrum, tall/short, high/low, empty/full. The “race does not exist” people should talk to the fuzzy logic programmers. The fact that there are edge cases such as people of mixed race or foothills that sit between the mountains and the plains doesn’t mean that there is no such thing as a mountain or a plain. The idea that just because some people might call their wine glass half empty and another person might say that their glass filled to an identical level is half full or that in some cultures there is not a separate word for yellow and orange doesn’t mean that fullness or color is a purely social concept. Again I keep coming back to the question, are these people really that stupid or are they just trying to pull the wool over our eyes?

Just a guess, but in general in such professional organizations the people who are on the various committees are volunteers. People who volunteer for such roles tend not to be the brightest, most competent people. If you have spare time to do committee work for a professional association, you are probably, well, maybe not a complete loser, but someone with free time on your hands.

In recent years this has allowed SJWs to take over organizations. Again, you’d think that the membership would intervene, but they have better things to do with their time. And when SJWs are involved, there is a fear of being called some nasty name and having the Twitter hoards after you if you speak up. So you have to wait until elections, when you have the choice of voting out the current roster and voting in … another bunch of SJW losers with time on their hands.

The American Bar Association is in a multiyear battle between a committee that is trying to redraft the uniform criminal code recommendations to statutize Title IX style standards into rape and sexual assault law at the state level. The draft keeps getting voted down by the membership but it keeps getting resubmitted by the captive committee. I’m sure that there are tactics being put into place to ID opponents and dox them and slime them. Reasonable rape laws are not long for this world. Be forewarned. Of course, states would have to implement them, but that is just another step, and the SJWs know how to do this stuff. “The arc of history is on their side.”

Not just that, but people seem to have this notion that science is immune from politics. In fact scientists are humans and humans are political and they take their politics with them to work. And in the case of modern science, they are overwhelmingly leftist. Even in areas that are not overtly political, scientists are often in sharp disagreement with each other – one school of thought or the other is dead wrong (each one thinks it is the other and will argue convincingly) but the rest of us have no way of knowing which one it is.

We also have the notion that fake or incorrect science will be outed by the process of scientific inquiry but this process is not automatic – errors often stand for decades or even centuries. Galileo’s who are willing to sacrifice everything to row against the current of accepting thinking are rare and are often thought of as cranks in their time.

Mixed-race supremacist ideology assumes that races are different and advantaged in different areas.

For example, why would a mixed race person be more beautiful, intelligent, and taller/stronger?

It’s because it assumes that he or she will combine the advantages of the various races.

So, if he or she is white, black, Asian, and Jewish, he or she will have the combination of white beauty, black brawn, Asian math skills, and Jewish verbal skills. If there are no racial differences, why would mixing races make a difference? Mixing races makes a difference because different races have different advantages.

But improvement by mixing races is relative. For example, if there is a tall race and a short race, the mixed kid will be taller than the short race but shorter than the tall race. He will be taller than his short parent. But the chances are he will be shorter than his tall parent. Look at Jeb Bush’s son. Taller than his mother’s people but shorter than his dad’s people. And if a black mixes with an Asian, the offspring will be stronger than Asian people. But he will likely be weaker than black people. So, the offspring is both superior and inferior to his parents. He is stronger than his asian side but weaker than his black side. His Asian side made Tiger Woods less athletic than blacks and blacks-mixed-with-whites who are bigger than him. Also, we see in many Jewish-Aryan mixes that the offspring is both superior and inferior in beauty. Generally superior in beauty to his Jewish parent but inferior in beauty to his Aryan parent.
So, race mixing both improves and worsens. It’s all relative. If a tall Dutch and a short Pygmy or Amazon tribesperson mix, the child will be taller than his Pygmy or Amazon parent but shorter than his Dutch parent. If a Jew and black mix, the chances are the kid will be smarter than his black parent but dumber than his Jewish parent.

Galileo was wrong, and the Church was correct. He claimed that orbits like the Earth’s were perfect circles, while the Church insisted on empirical evidence it already possessed showing that circular orbits were not compatible with reality. The “thinking” against which Galileo was rowing was Kepler, whose three laws of planetary motion we now accept as best explanation in a Newtonian universe of the heavens.

…race itself is a social construct.

I also think that Cavalli-Sforza would have been less eager in recent years to engage proactively in such obvious evasion of fundamental points. Among other things, he had more cover because there are so many other geneticists pursuing similar ends.

In general, the geneticists who composed this recent thing went out of their way to offer up this garbage. I don’t think geneticists today have to go through the same level of justification as in the past — the value of their work speaks for itself.

  133. EdwardM says:

I’m waiting to secure the time and resources to paint my magnum opus: a huge canvas, titled “Race Does Not Exist,” with 1000 contiguous squares. On one end would be pure blue, and on the other end would be pure red. From the blue end, each square would add 1/1000th part red and subtract 1/1000th part blue. The 500th square, in the middle, would be 500/500, or purple. And so on. The human eye would not be able to differentiate between any two consecutive squares yet, viola, eventually you’d end up with red.

Not sure if 1000 gradations is enough. Maybe 10,000? What’s the human ability to differentiate colors?

This would be tedious to produce. You’d need an extremely precise scale, I suppose, to measure out thousandth-units of paint, one at a time, and put each resulting mix in its own bottle. You’d need an army of assistants (like Damien Hirst has), who had the skill to paint a nearly perfect square, and it would still take a lifetime. I suppose you could fairly easily build an automated assembly line with vats of blue and red paint to achieve this, and could also get the machine to do the painting.

But it wouldn’t be practical to have a long rectangular canvas. (If each square were one inch, you’d have an 83 feet x 1 inch product — not very attractive or practical.) Maybe a square canvas, with a triangle of color, with one of the primary colors at each apex and more complex three-dimensional color mixing. I’ve tried to calculate how many hours and gallons of paint you’d need (such that you could handle, and the scale or other measuring device could perceive, a 1/1000th part — there would be a lot of wasted paint), beyond the precision mixing and complexity of storing 1,000 or 10,000 mixes.

Of course you could do it in a jiffy with a computer and printer, which could probably be found to accommodate such subtle colors. Various versions of this have, of course, been done. But having real paint and canvas seems more compelling.

Yeah, I have thought a lot about this.

Having studied the code and RNA transcription at university, I suspect that there is a problem with how such statements are expressed.

In the case of Fauxahontas, I saw a different and interesting hypothesis last week. The writer was pointing out that one of her European ancestors may well have picked up some Turkic or Mongol genes that are the same as those at similar sites on American Indians.

The American Indians, though separated by many millenia, are originally from eastern Asia. Once saw a documentary on NHK, Japan’s national broadcaster, stating that, on genetic evidence, the Ainu are the closest relatives to American Indians.

I do not know if that is true or not.

However, I do know that ‘x% of y people’s DNA’ is at best, a simplistic crock of poo.

We have some people more knowledgeable on this here. It would be nice if one would give a simple explanation. I think that it must only be some percentages of tiny sequences that are characteristic, and in most cases, not of only the specific population, but also related populations.

After all, chimps score over 98% same DNA, gorillas, only a little less. So, a chimp is as close to being human as Fauxhahontas, at the high end ‘estimate’, is to having a Mestizo ancestor from Suid-Amerique?

Is that not enough to ridicule such forms of perception and expression?

The whole way such things are expressed is clearly and willfully obscured, and a systematic body of lies.

  136. Pat Boyle says:
    @Ggg

The reality is something that many people cannot face. The reality is that many characteristics that people have that are important to them, are fixed at the moment of conception. Daddy and mommy were rolling around in bed one evening and made you.

Most important characteristics are polygenic like height and intelligence. You parents each had a mixture of SNPs that determined your height. The sperm and egg met and a particular configuration resulted, Your height was set – that is assuming that you got enough to eat and had no bad diseases. If you ate the best breakfast cereal on the market you were not going to to be eight feet tall. With good conditions you would be just as tall as you were supposed to be and no taller.

Most people can accept this notion, That means they do not feel that their free will has been compromised by their genetics. But intelligence which works the same way as height elicits a different reaction in some people. They think the person they recognize as themselves is somehow the product of some sum of all their experiences – period. If they are smart they think they became smart because of some really good teacher they had had in fourth grade. Nope. That’s an illusion. If you have had a rich varied set of life experiences you will end up as as an adult pretty much the way you were intended to be that night when your parents coupled.

Some people – whom we usually call brain dead liberals – feel that this process makes them a protoplasmic robot just following a pre-set blueprint. Where’s the free will in that?

Sorry if you feel that way but reality is reality. You might think of it as “the facts of life”. The existential condition of mankind is that we follow a plan and that plan was set at conception. Society should optimize the environment so that the most people fulfill their genetic destiny.

The other thing that some have difficulty accepting is that some races have different characteristics. For example West African people are taller that East Asian. Not everyone of course. There are Chinese basketball players and Negro jockeys – but on average blacks are taller. the Japanese are getting taller as their nutrition improves. But they will still be shorter than blacks. Most people can accept that Asians are shorter but many have trouble accepting that Asians are smarter. So if you accept that a Korean is shorter than a Somali and believe that is in-born why do you likewise reject the notion that the Korean is smarter? All the evidence indicates that these two traits follow similar rules. You think genetics works in one domain but not in another.

People who reject the reality of the genetics of intelligence are exhibiting a personality quirk. They are at a minimum betraying a serious inconsistency in their thinking. Anti-racist thinking is a form of infantilism. It is willful and when opposed leads to emotional outbursts. SJWs are subject to tantrums.

The future looks bright. That is if people can merely grow up and face reality. A lot of our subsequent life is fixed at conception. But we will soon be able to manipulate conception to reflect the parent’s wishes. The method will go something like this. The parents produce a number of fertilize eggs. Th technician examines the relevant parts of the genomes and gives the parents some choices. If they want a smart kid they choose this one or these ones. Maybe the father likes basketball. He chooses a tall one. This technology is coming – like it or not.

If someone discovers a gene pattern that is associated with homosexuality then gay men will probably disappear. So there will be political consequences. We will almost certainly be able to make black people smarter – but will they still be blacks?

The statement, which appears in the November issue of the group’s scientific journal, The American Journal of Human Genetics, said the concept of “racial purity” was scientifically meaningless.

Presumably because it is never actually attained. Shall we add other concepts to the category of “scientifically meaningless” because they are never actually attained? Absolute Zero. Sphericity. Adiabatic. Ideal Gas?

As newly visible and often-virulent groups of white nationalists have invoked genetic research to claim racial superiority, some geneticists have suggested that the field was not doing enough to counter the claims.

So groups of people can be “virulent”? Is that a scientifically meaningful concept now? Good to know.

bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant. Frankfurt concludes that although bullshit can take many innocent forms, excessive indulgence in it can eventually undermine the practitioner’s capacity to tell the truth in a way that lying does not. Liars at least acknowledge that it matters what is true. By virtue of this, Frankfurt writes, bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are.

To one degree or another, I do agree that the idea of racial purity, in the strict sense, is fairly pointless. Maybe even meaningless. The idea of racial integrity, however, is not pointless. Most of us are defined by the essence of what we are, not by the purity of what we are. This is true not just genetically but in all facets of our existence. It isn’t so much the purity of European-ness that the left wants to destroy, it’s the essence of European-ness the left wants to destroy. They want all European uniqueness and heritage, both genetic and cultural, to disappear.

So while white Brazilians may not have the same definition of “white” that Americans or Europeans do, I would support their efforts to preserve their idea of whiteness. Same with northern Europeans who may have different standards.

I honestly also agree with the statement that no race is “superior” to another.

Human history is the history of the strong destroying the weak by coordinated violence. Superior means better at coordinated violence and is unquestionably different between different races.

I think there should be a fundamental human dignity.

The amount of matter that exists is limited and if it is used for one purpose it cannot be used by another. We are far, far below that limit but any growth rate above replacement eventually ends with who lives and who starves. Hint- we live and they starve.

All people who are already in the US as citizens should maintain equality before the law.

That is called segregation. Equality before the law leads to ethnic coalitions to seize power; it doesn’t work.

I wouldn’t do very well with a bone in my nose in the New Guinea highlands, or hunting dikdiks with the San, or harvesting seal blubber with the Eskimos.

A point I’ve made before that’s relevant — some of iSteve’s most readable commenters live in a High-Information bubble. Even as an issue is leaping into the headlines, we can put it in context (e.g. “hate hoaxes matter”). We already distrust legacy media, and know how to Google relevant bits of information, then provisionally rank them by relevance and importance.

Few American voters operate like this. Obviously, many are ignorant of politics, thus swayed by ads and Facebook feeds. But it’s easy to neglect Moderate Information voters. People who watch the evening news and Meet The Press, read the lead stories in the Times or Post, subscribe to The Atlantic. Because these are Trusted News Sources, they trust them. Kashoggi, Charlottesville, tariffs, Kavanaugh, immigration — folks’ recognition of such subjects assures them that they’re up to date on current events, and ready to make informed decisions.

I imagine that Amy Harmon’s recent spate of articles are dopey enough to set some Spidey-senses tingling. If they made it to iSteve, some moderate-info readers might start adjusting their priors. But on the other hand, Harmon writes for The New York Times… it’s not as though the nation’s best newspaper is going to mislead!

As I recently said in a different thread: “Religion is the worship and service of God, period.” It has nothing to do with human group cohesion, nor with culture, nor with earthly goods, nor even with “morality” as that term is commonly understood—except in the secondary and derivative sense that religion embraces the entire life of man, and since man is concerned in these other matters, so they cannot be relegated to a sphere separate from religion. (This, incidentally, is why the freedom of religion, often expressed as the separation of church and state, is an utterly nonsensical concept.) But religion in its essence means only the uniting of man to God; and “religious” as an adjective means principally the dogmas, creeds, rites, and practices that affect such a union, or the objects, teachings, events, places, or people in whom or through whom the union is realized. This article from the Catholic Encyclopedia on the Virtue of Religion puts the matter very clearly.

Of the three proposed derivations of the word “religion”, that suggested by Lactantius and endorsed by St. Augustine seems perhaps to accord better with the idea than the others. He says it comes from religare, to bind. Thus it would mean the bond uniting man to God. The notion of it commonly accepted among theologians is that which is found in St. Thomas’s “Summa Theologica”, II-II, Q. lxxxi. According to him it is a virtue whose purpose is to render God the worship due to Him as the source of all being and the principle of all government of things. There can be no doubt that it is a distinct virtue, not merely a phase of another. It is differentiated from others by its object, which is to offer to Almighty God the homage demanded by His entirely singular excellence.

    PETA bloviates:

As when Christoph Waltz’s character in Inglorious Bastards drinks a glass of milk and a character in a pivotal scene of Get Out sips the cow secretion, dairy milk has long been embraced as a symbol of white supremacy.

Aside from “lactose-tolerant” white supremacists, cow’s milk really is the perfect drink of choice for all (even unwitting) supremacists, since the dairy industry inflicts extreme violence on other living beings. PETA is trying to wake people up to the implications of choosing this white beverage and suggesting that they choose something else pronto.

However, that notorious rock and roll PETA princess, Big Little Miss Muffett, is unregenerate in this matter and has a different idea-sort of:

The Pretenders star Chrissie Hynde was in Cardiff on Saturday to reopen Atma at its new location in the Capitol Shopping Centre on Queen Street .

And though she is a bona fida rock chick, the prominent vegan and animal rights campaigner, didn’t think twice about trying to entice Cardiff shoppers into the cafe by handing out flyers.

The cafe, which closed the doors at its previous Church Street location in April, advocates the principal of ahimsa – a belief, central to the religions of Hinduism and Buddhism, that all living beings have a spark of divine energy and that to hurt others is ultimately the same as hurting oneself.

As a result, all the dairy products sold in Atma come from cows that will never be slaughtered, making it the first cafe of its kind in Europe.

And the 65-year-old American musician – wearing a tight black T-shirt with a Welsh flag on the front – was delighted to be in the Welsh capital.

“I opened a vegan restaurant in Ohio and I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 17. Ahimsa is something else again and it’s the first of its kind in Europe so I’m honoured to be here to open it.

“If cows are treated according to the high ethical principles of cow protection, where no cows are slaughtered, their milk provides unlimited benefits for human health and I’m delighted to support ahimsa milk. You don’t have to be vegan if you can get stuff like this. We don’t kill the cows. It’s awesome.

“It’s good to be back in Wales. I’ve performed here many times and I’m returning in October. On behalf of my mother Delores Roberts and her mother Irene Jones, I’m now an original going back to my roots Taffess.”

    https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/food-drink-news/rock-legend-chrissie-hynde-helped-13337017

Of course, if they really never kill any cows, the milk will be priced alongside truffles and caviar, since they will have to retire the cows to live for a decade after their economic use ends and have to let half the offspring produced-the steers-live rent free for up to two decades with zero financial return. But BigLMM isn’t one for economics, which is why VegiTerranean fell on its skinny ass.

I’ve never heard a logical explanation of why human races aren’t approximately the same thing as sub-species among animals.

Many species have multiple sub-species living in different areas. Where those areas butt up against each other, the sub-species, which are entirely inter-fertile, breed and produce offspring that isn’t really in either sub-species.

There is no “line” in such cases between the sub-species, they shade into each other. But no biologist says this proves the sub-species don’t exist.

I’ve tried looking up the race/subspecies question. All I find is repeated assertions that the two are utterly distinct concepts, I’ve been unable to find an explanation of exactly why they differ.
