First he exposed the History Channel’s miniseries “Roots” as root-and-brunch fiction. Now, the courageous epistolary warrior Kunta (Jack) Kerwick has turned his attention to correcting lies about slavery, promulgated in media and scholarly circles.

A point forcefully made by Kerwick is that although a vibrant, indigenous slave trade was conducted well into the nineteenth century in the interior of West Africa, slavery has become the White Man’s cross to bear.

Also omitted, in the course of the “honest” conversation about race directed by our political masters, is that credit for the demise of the slave trade in Africa belongs to Europeans. In his compact study, The Slave Trade (London, 2006), British historian Jeremy Black highlights the “leading role Britain played in the abolition of slavery [as]… an example of an ethical foreign policy.” Britain agonized over this repugnant institution, failed to reconcile it with the Christian faith, and consequently abolished it.

Professor Black condemns the exclusive focus on the Atlantic—or transatlantic—slave trade to the exclusion of the robust slave trade conducted by Arabs across the Sahara Desert. Or, across the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea to markets in the Middle East. This exclusive focus on westerners as slave owners and traders, notes Black, “fits with the [political] narrative of Western exploitation” of undeveloped countries and their people.

The greatest development economist to live was Lord P. T. Bauer. As The Economist quipped, Bauer was to foreign aid what Friedrich Hayek was to socialism: a slayer. In his Dissent on Development (London, 1971), Bauer bolstered Black’s point well before the latter made it: “The slave trade between Africa and the Middle East antedated the Atlantic slave trade by centuries, and far outlasted it. Tens of millions of Africans were carried away—north through the Sahara, and from East Africa, by Arab and Muslim slave traders, well before Europeans took up the trade from West Africa.”

Arab affinity for slavery, ethnic prejudice and purges lives on today in the treatment, for example, of blacks in Darfur and Yazidis in Kurdistan, Iraq.

Considering Europeans were not alone in the slave trade, Black, in particular, questions “the commonplace identification of slavery with racism,” given that, like serfdom, slavery was a device (albeit an inefficient one) “to ensure labor availability and control.”

At its most savage, child slavery still thrives in Haiti in the form of the “Restavec system.” Children are kept in grinding poverty and worked to the bone. In the Anglo-American and European worlds this would be considered perverse in the extreme; in Haiti owning a Restavec is a status symbol. (Haiti, incidentally, is another spot on the globe that “Hillary Clinton’s State Department” “helped ruin,” by ensconcing an illegitimate and crooked leader, with a preference for corrupt NGOs such as … The Clinton Foundation.)

The savagery of the indigenous slave trade in the interior of West Africa owed a lot to the rivalries and relationships between African powers. By Black’s telling, “Both Arabs and Europeans worked in collaboration with native polities that provided the slaves through raids and war carried out against their neighbors.”

For the Atlantic slave trade, contemporary Americans and Britons have been expiating at every turn. But more than engendering a cult of apology, the Atlantic slave trade has been instrumental in the effort to control and define the past as an “aspect of current politics,” not least in shaping the historical treatment of the Civil War, the South, and the American Founding Fathers.

Jeremy Black rejects these ritual apologies as empty ploys, which “all too often conform to fatuous arguments about ‘closure,’ resolution, and being unable to move on until we acknowledge the past.”

In reality, this bowing-and-scraping, by obsequious Anglo-Americans, to their black political overlords, entails the opposite of all these, and, instead, involves the reiteration and institutionalization of racial grievance.

The cult of apology that has gripped America and Britain is uniquely Western. What other people would agonize over events they had no part in, personally, for damages they did not inflict?

Grievance is leveled at a collective, all whites, for infractions it did not commit: Africans who were not enslaved are seen as having an ineffable claim against Europeans who did not enslave them.

At its core, the argument against racism, at least as it works to further black interests, is an argument against collectivism. You’re meant to avoid judging an entire people based on the color of their epidermis or the conduct of a statistically significant number of them.

It is, however, deemed perfectly acceptable to malign and milk Europeans for all they’re worth, based on the lack of pigment in their skin and their overall better socio-economic performance.

Well, this is alike whites of European ancestry being accused of racism for the very reason they are the only ones who are no racist any more, as this remarkable paper concludes.

If you abolish it, it is an admittance of guilt. So, you get blamed than credited. Moral paradox.
It’s like the Negro who admits wrong in CRY THE BELOVED COUNTRY is the one who is punished.

Also, I think it has to do with racial aspect of slavery.

    Blacks enslaved blacks in Africa.

And Muslims enslaved anyone they could get their hands on: blacks, whites, Semites, and etc.
    So, their actions weren’t ‘racist’.

But in America, they enslaved only blacks. That racial specificity made it more stinging and hurtful.

Also, the success of America made the contrasts between whites and blacks starker.

In Latin America, there were whites and non-whites(blacks and Indios), but also a vast mixed-race group. And as Latin America lagged behind, even whites(except for those with special privilege and wealth) weren’t all that better off than the mestizos and mulattos and indios.

But American success made whites much more successful than blacks. And less race-mixing in America made the white/black conflict more starker.
This may change as Junglobalism turns more white wombs into mulatto-baby-factories.

“Europeans abolished slavery”; Africa’s economy promptly collapsed and hasn’t recovered since.

  4. Well said. As I’ve written before, you are one of the very few white ex-liberal former South Africans to repent their views. They would rather hide in the Bordelais or Adelaide Hills not admitting that they were any way wrong.
    Good on you. girl.

I can’t believe that a high quality site such as Unz publishes such fatuous drivel.

One wonders whether the esteemed author has ever heard of concepts such as wage slavery and debt slavery.

    Note the date here.:

“But in reality the abolition of serfdom and of slavery was only the abolition of an obsolete form of slavery that had become unnecessary, and the substitution for it of a firmer form of slavery and one that holds a greater number of people in bondage.”

    - Leo Tolstoy

This Article is completely stupid and racist. Europeans practiced slavery on a scale that has never been known at any time in the history of African and Islamic nations . There has never been plantations in Africa.

  7. Well, your monicker says what you are full of.

  8. This isn’t news Ilana, and it will get very few readers as well because of where it is posted. It should be taught in all the history classes up through high school, but since we have institutionalized anti-white racism in this country that will never happen.

Good on you for writing about it though. Also, slavery hasn’t ended in Africa and Asia and the Middle East. It is alive and well in Islam.

Heard of it? She lives it – she’s from a mobile, multinational ethnic group that lives off of imposing mental and debt slavery on other peoples via media, entertainment, academia and finance. It’s the most insidious slavery of all, hence the deadliest and most destructive form of slavery, much worse than explicit, physical slavery, which is at least honest and something its victims immediately recognize and can react to.

Slavery is a very broad subject. Interesting mis-conception about who were the first slaves brought to North America by the Europeans. While hardly acknowledged, most colonies started with Scots & Irish slaves, by the English who were enclosing land and declaring the illegality of poverty and homelessness. While the vocabulary in the documents of the era was more often ‘servant’ or ‘indenture,’ practically speaking, there were people who had the legally enforced rights of ‘masters’ and there were those treated as if they were owned ‘slaves.’ Australia being populated by transportees is somewhat more well known, and almost as rarely acknowledged. The reasons for conversion from the white to african slaves is supposed to include the relatively unruly nature of the Scots & Irish, also documented in several rebellions of the pre-revolutionary era.

  11. She’s Jewish, so bashing Islam is a way of life for her. They keep spewing their rubbish. I am originally from South Africa and know people like her. They are the WORST racists, but will deny it with beautiful words!

  12. Tens of millions of Africans were carried away—north through the Sahara, and from East Africa, by Arab and Muslim slave traders, well before Europeans took up the trade from West Africa.

The author has politely ommitted to mention a Jewish ivolvement in slave trade.

Children ( in Haiti ) are kept in grinding poverty and worked to the bone. In the Anglo-American and European worlds this would be considered perverse in the extreme.

Really? I am amazed that an author so “knowledgeable” has never heard about the sweatshops of firms like Adidas or Nike employing child labor in countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc.

  13. Actually, your comment shows that you don’t know JS, and personal attacks on other commenters show what yer full of as well.

“Anonymous’” reply shows (s)he gets it. Same for “Druid.”

  14. Excellent points.

Too bad the Fish with a Woodie doesn’t understand those concepts even tho it apparently does understand that the federal government is nothing more than a mafia operation. The various mafias are all about parasitizing the productive classes which is just another way of saying that their operations are a form of slavery.

Not only are most of us wage and debt slaves, we’re tax slaves too.

Wooodie Baby, get this…We are enslaved to the degree we are taxed against our wills; therefore the US is, effectively, largely slave state.

Here you go; brush up on some basic concepts…

    https://mises.org/library/tax-slavery

  15. I’m not surprised that the Fish with a Woodie doesn’t understand its own servitude. Fish generally swim in schools and I suspect they rarely think for themselves, so it’s no wonder it has a philosophical blind spot even tho many have figured out the obvious many years ago.

“The education we all receive from the State, at school and after, has so warped our minds that the very notion of freedom ends up by being lost, and disguised in servitude.”

    - Peter Kropotkin, The State — Its Historic Role (1897), Chapter IX

  16. It wasn’t a personal attack, it was a total rejection of the nonsense you wrote.

  17. Many Irish and Scots were also enslaved in the early years of the US. Best to check into that, since we are not demanding money for the suffering of our ancestors and records are harder to find for Euro slaves.

  18. So true. Mercer hates Arabs and Muslims and she wants Americans to hate them as well. The needless conflict between Islam and the Zionized West is good for Israel. This is why Mercer’s always pimping for more hatred, more conflict, and additional wars.

Consider: The Judeo-Christian West has been meddling in Arab affairs for over a century. Most recently, Zio-American wars have torn apart Iraq, Libya and Syria. From these invasions ISIS was born. The subsequent refugee disaster (now spilling into Europe) is a direct result of these criminal enterprises. This ensuing regional chaos allows Israel to maintain its poisonous policies.

Consider: due to Zio-American sanctions, Iran has been on the ropes for decades. Zio-Washington is also holding nearly $100 billion dollars that rightfully belongs to Iran. Lebanon too has been sanctioned. And Russia. Palestine is a virtual concentration camp. Lives lost. Lives ruined. And the US is still at war in Afghanistan. How many civilians have we slaughtered three? No one knows. No one cares.

Trillions have been squandered in these wars of aggression. Countless lives ruined. Iraq–once a stable and prosperous state–is now a wasteland. Same with Libya and Syria. In all these calamities, Zionists played a pivotal role. They still do. But nuclear Israel is forever untouchable and always unaccountable. Israel forever gets special and preferential treatment throughout the West, especially in Washington. This is privilege with a capitol ‘P’.

Thus, US aid to Apartheid Israel is always unconditional and always unequaled. Zionists simply dominate the United States. What’s worse, dissenters are purged and, if necessary, ruined. Anti-Zionist activism is gradual being criminalized. Why? It’s ‘anti-Semitic’! The usual suspects have brilliantly conflated criticism of Jews with gassing Jews. Amazing feat. A hard and terrifying taboo has now taken hold. The fix is in. Consequently, no public official dares question the ‘special relationship’. Not one.

As for slavery, Mercer (an Israeli) invariable fails to mention the prominent role played by Jews in the transatlantic slave trade. This is no accident.

Jews were huge players in the slave trade and are still involved in international human trafficking (especially pornography and prostitution) not to mention debt and wage slavery, which is their specialty.

Black scholar Tony Martin wrote an entire book on the subject of Jews owning and selling African slaves. The book called ‘Jews Selling Blacks’. It is a compendium of actual slave auction posters from the 18th and 19th centuries.

Here are some of the names of the major slave merchants. Many were prominent members and even leaders of local synagogues. They include: Jacob Cohen & Son, Abraham Tobias, Benjamin Mordecai, David Mordecai, Thomas W. Mordecai, Isaac Franks, Samuel Hart, Abraham Cohen, Samuel Hyams, Jacob Isaacks, Jacob Lazarus, Nathan Levy, Jacob Levin, Aaron Lopez, David Lopez, Hyam Moise, Abraham Mendes, Israel Moses, Myer Moses, Solomon Moses, Levi Sheftal, Mordecai Sheftal, Soloman Zantz, Isaiah Isaacs, Abraham Lipman, Jacob Adler, Hyam Cohen and others.

In ‘Jews Selling Blacks’ the actual ads for slave auctions have been reproduced. It is published by Nation of Islam. I recommend it.

It’s also been noted that early slave auctions in Newport, RI, were always closed on Jewish holidays. Shalom.

  22. Trust me, Sport; this is WAY to advanced for this board.

  23. The reasons for conversion from the white to african slaves is supposed to include the relatively unruly nature of the Scots & Irish,

Untrue, or at best, extremely marginal.

  25. Hi schmenz. I somewhat foolishly allowed my web site to fade away. It was mostly devoted to my book “Persecution, Privilege & Power” (still available on Amazon).

On my site, I also had a few memorable TV interviews from my old program ‘Flashpoint’. These interviews are now dispersed on YouTube.

    For example:

  26. In 2001, the children’s relief organization UNICEF said that 100,000 central African children were being sold into slavery annually. Those numbers may be less now that slavery is illegal in most countries of that region, but that’s still a very recent phenomenon. And slavery still exists illegally because it’s a part of sub-Saharan (and Saharan) culture.

  27. Slavery wasn’t such a bad alternative to ending up in the larder as was fairly common in Africa.

Also, the Irish servitude in North America was largely indentured. However, in the island it was hard core slavery. The Irish were cheap but didn’t do well as slaves. The Irish women were however bred with black slaves to produce rather superior and physically attractive slaves.

  28. Muslims appeared on Earth only 1400 years ago, but slavery had long been practiced by Jews, Christians and Hindus as commanded by their religious teachings. Israel is the only member of United Nation where non-Jewish slavery is legalized.

UK’s labour party suspended Jackie Walker, vice-chairwoman of Momentum movement over posting historical truth about the “African Holocaust” and Jews as “chief beneficiaries of African slavery at sugar plantation.”

Ms Walker has claimed that she and her partner are both of Jewish descent and are actively involved in anti-racism campaign.

Ms Walker’s claim is not based on her hatred towards Jews, but on historical facts, which like Jewish collaboration with Hitler and Mussolini – the Zionist mafia doesn’t want public to know that their Jew ancestors played a major role not only in African slavery but also in White slavery in the past. In fact, White Christian women from Russia and Ukraine are still used as sex-slaves in Israel, reported by The Times of Israel, November 29, 2015.

Jews owned, insured, and financed slave ships and outfitted them with chains and shackles for the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. They were auctioneers, commission merchants, brokers, and wholesalers, keeping the slave economy oiled with money, markets, and supplies (here).

Dr. Raphael in his 1983 book, Jews and Judaism in the United States: A Documentary History, said: “Jews also took an active part in the Dutch colonial slave trade; indeed, the bylaws of the Recife and Mauricia congregations (1648) included an imposta (Jewish tax) of five soldos for each Negro slave a Brazilian Jew purchased from the West Indies Company. Slave auctions were postponed if they fell on a Jewish holiday. In Curacao in the seventeenth century, as well as in the British colonies of Barbados and Jamaica in the eighteenth century, Jewish merchants played a major role in the slave trade. In fact, in all the American colonies, whether French (Martinique), British, or Dutch, Jewish merchants frequently dominated. “This was no less true on the North American mainland, where during the eighteenth century Jews participated in the ‘triangular trade’ that brought slaves from Africa to the West Indies and there exchanged them for molasses, which in turn was taken to New England and converted into rum for sale in Africa. Isaac Da Costa of Charleston in the 1750’s, David Franks of Philadelphia in the 1760’s, and Aaron Lopez of Newport in the late 1760’s and early 1770’s dominated Jewish slave trading on the American continent (here).

  29. Thank you for that amazing paper. “…an anti-racist convocation, which I compare to a religious revival meeting” Absolutely true – the obvious parallels between SJW insanity and religious revivals of the past must be emphasized continuously (and isn’t, thanks to idiotic, know-nothing ‘journalists’)

He refers to the future of SJW nonsense as a “bottomless pit of ever-increasing toxicity” – how very sad and true…

  30. What is the slavery called that the MSM holds on all those gullible enough to believe them ?

  31. Thanks very much. Interesting stuff.

  32. Credit should be given when credit is due, and the British civilized humanity by ending slavery as we know it. Yes, there was slavery in African and the middle east, however, please don’t get carried away. West African society for the most part egalitarian and peasant based organized into chiefdoms..

Slavery got out of hand because of the vast wealth of the new world and the insatiable need for cheap labor that came with it. It was unprecedented.

The Arab/islamic world had slavery as part of the continuum of slavery that existed in the middle east since the dawn of civilization. What is surprising is how easily slavery as an institution collapsed there and around the world in general after existing globally for thousands of years.

It was the British and the West in general who convinced the world that slavery is no longer acceptable.
