The results from Tuesday’s Israeli elections have confirmed what many of us have known for a long while. The Jewish state is an ultra nationalist right wing swamp. Israel is more hawkish than ever. There is not a single Jewish Israeli Left wing party. The Democratic Party is led and mentored by a war criminal. What is left of Israel’s Labour Party has very little to do with peace, harmony and reconciliation. In fact, that Party is also led by a person wanted for war crimes.

As things now stand, although Bibi’s right/religious block has shrunk, Israel is more right wing than ever. The longest serving Israeli PM cannot form his natural right/religious coalition. Most Israeli commentators agree that the only way out of the current political stalemate is with a wide ultranationalist government led by Likud, Blue and White and others. Such a coalition will be brokered in the coming days by the rabid nationalist zealot Avigdor Lieberman who has skillfully made himself into Israel’s king maker.

While Netanyahu has proven to be pretty cautious in his deployment of Israel’s vast military forces, we have good reason to believe that a coalition led by Blue and White and its IDF generals, Lieberman and Netanyahu, may be less adept at such maneuvers. The components of Israel’s next government are destined to compete among themselves for the ‘Mr. Security’ title. They will be determined to reinstate the long faded Israeli ‘power of deterrence,’ and presumably, they will push for questionable measures that will likely pull the region into carnage.

This was written on the wall some time ago. Israel, that was born to emancipate the Jews from diaspora conditions, to replace the Jewish ghetto and to eradicate the ghetto mentality, didn’t just fail in its mission: it has matured into the epitome of a ghetto. It has surrounded itself with humongous ghetto walls. It hates its neighbours and not surprisingly, it is not loved in return.

The Jewish ghetto on the Palestinian seashore resembles, on many levels, its East-European ancestor. Israel’s Jews are united by their hostile feelings towards their neighbours although they are in sharp disagreement amongst themselves about pretty much everything else. Once again, the old Yiddish joke comes to mind: “How many synagogues do you need in a village with just one Jew? Two, one to go to and one to boycott.” Jews are defined not only by what they are or what they believe themselves to be, but also by what they hate or claim to oppose.

ORDER IT NOW

Israel is not troubled by its failure to fulfill the early Zionist promise to ‘civilize’ the Jews by means of a ‘homecoming,’ to become “people like all other people.” For more than three decades Israel has defined itself as the Jewish State. Israel is not a state of its citizens. Israel is the state of the Jews, both Israelis and Diaspora. Israel is a state that enforces racial laws and has institutionaized discrimination against the people of the land, the Palestinians.

Unlike Israeli Jews who are divided in their politics, the Palestinians are more united than ever and not just in Gaza. Once again, the Arab Joint List is the 3rd biggest party in the Knesset. If Likud and Blue and White manage to form a national unity government, the Arab party will be leading the opposition in the Knesset. The Arab party not only united the Palestinians in Israel, it is also the only Left party in the Israeli parliament. It has been said that the Party expanded electorally on Tuesday because those very few Israeli Jews who adhere to Left universal values gave their votes to the Arab party. It is more than symbolic that the only humane and universal political force in the Israeli ghetto is a Palestinian party.

Being a normal nation among nations certainly never meant to live at peace with its neighbors – that would be highly abnormal, and from that perspective, all European nations have been ghettos for all of history.

Zionism was about giving Jews political authority over their affairs in the land of their ancestors – like other nations – to restore their ability to physically defend themselves, and to restore to them the full range of national occuoations, like agriculture, from which they were barred in Europe.

From this was to emerge a new psychology of self confidence, self reliance, and self respect.

In all these ways Zionism was a splendid success, far beyond what anyone could have envisioned at the time.

The idea that Israel can only be a normal nation if it is accepted by others is precisely the morbidly unself-confident attitude of the European ghetto that lives on in Jews like Gilad Atzmon.

No self-respecting Israeli or Jew sees Zionism as anything other than an internal rehabilitation, and would never imagine judging its success by how well Arabs think of Israel!

Israel was created precisely to eradicate such cringeworthy ghetto attitudes.

As an aside, I never understood this need for there to be heros and villains – a universalist may sincerely object to Israel, as universalist Jews do, but to then pretend Palestinians, a virulently nationalistic people, are the “good guys” seems rather absurd.

Clearly some people use the universalism as merely a cudgel with which to beat those they irrationally dislike.

Indeed. Which is why the Jewish nations within other countries should not be surprised by their neighbors turning on them.

Re: Jewish ghetto resembles its East-European ancestor

Wrong. It was Western Europe (incl. German states) that confined its Jews
to ghettoes in the Middle Ages. After the Jews developed a bad reputation
they were largely expelled, and ended up primarily in the vast Polish-Lithuanian
Commonwealth (which for over 200 years was a local Superpower) where
they were given all sorts of privileges and were free to live wherever they liked.
By 1550 about 90% of the Ashkenazi Jews lived in Poland, or more properly
the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, mostly controlled by the Polish Crown.
No wonder the Jews referred to Poland as Paradisus Iudaeorum.
Since they eventually constituted 8-10% of the population, by far the largest
percentage in the world, they basically formed a country within a country,
and refused to assimilate, continued to speak Yiddish, and just like in Western
Europe, they again developed a bad reputation.

Being a highly ethnocentric group, they congregated in the same area BY CHOICE.
For example, in the 1930s Warsaw the Jews were concentrated just north and
west of the central train station which like many areas near train stations in
Europe soon developed a Red Light district where the Jews (and others) owned
bordellos and gambling establishments. It was only when the Germans invaded
in 1939 that they rounded up the Jews, built a wall, and confined them to a ghetto.

  5. AaronB says:
    @Change that Matters

I don’t think they are surprised.

Group conflict is normal, a part of human nature, if a regrettable one.

The Jewish experience among foreign nations is a perfectly normal and expected one – if France and England were constantly at war for hundreds of years, its absurd and unreasonable for the French and the English not to turn on Jews periodically – a far more racially and culturally alien people.

What is remarkable is that the intergroup conflict was not significantly worse – Jews clearly did something right.

But credit must also go to the European nations, who were able to overcome their natural human prejudices and animosities to an impressive extent.

  6. @AaronB

You seem to have managed to miss Atzmon’s point.

Israel may indeed have been intended to eradicate the attitudes of the ghetto — but it wound up replicating them.

Notice the walls. Israel obsessively walls itself in. Some of the barriers even run out into the sea. Her solution to everything is to build higher, wider, more formidable walls.

  11. @AaronB

‘I thought it was all its neighbors attacking Israel?’

    That misapprehension’s easily remedied.

Settler colonialist peoples are always ‘right-wing’. It’s been centuries and still the descendants of the planters in Northern Ireland have just the UUP and DUP to choose from.

Settler colonialists are frequently this way because their incursion into another groups territory is incomplete and thus an ethnic conflict emerges. As the dominant group they seek to maintain this aggressively at the expense of the natives. Thus right wing nationalism. The natives respond with a left wing nationalism. I struggle to think of any counter examples except maybe Sri Lanka. I can’t imagine a situation where Israel would ever make sense to not be effectively right-wing nationalist (Though internally the left in Israel is fairly right-wing by international standards) since the point is it being a Jewish state and since they invaded and colonised the territory, only right wing nationalism makes sense to maintain this. If Israel ever stopped being a Jewish state, even without violence (I can actually imagine several situations where that happens) it would simply lose it’s purpose to exist and the Jewish population would leave for the West. There can only be Israel or Palestine and only right-wing nationalism will be able to hold the line for Israel, however much that may seem to have become futile.

What’s novel about Israel is the utterly lack of restraint from a country that is actually not best served by over aggression but which is deluded from being insulated from consequences or disagreements that themselves make it easy for Israel to engage in ethnic cleansing but Israel instead continues to expand it’s borders and harbour louder and louder calls for outright annexation of the West Bank. Nobody will believe this in the future like nobody today believes anyone though peace could be bought from Hitler with appeasement.

There is nothing wrong with the Jews seeking to continue to exist per-say, the problem is they keep doing it in other peoples homelands and requiring the suppression of the other’s self-determination and the theft of their territory. A blanket defamation of nationalism is foolish. It was German nationalism that plunged Europe into two massive wars, not French, British or Russian nationalism which ended it. Similarly the main force opposing Israeli nationalism isn’t universalism but Palestinian nationalism.

Hmm, so Israel has mistreated the Egyptians, Syrians, and Persians rather than the other way around?

Seems like an inverted version of history.

  23. Before the Naqba, Muslims, Christians, and yes, even Jews (although not many of the Ashkenazi European settler Jews) lived peacefully together in Palestine.
From the perspective of an experimental perspective, what variable changed?
Ah yes, the Balfour Declaration, which was basically a backroom deal for Jews in England to get influential Jews in America (like Rabbi Stephen Wise) to find a way to get Woodrow Wilson to join WWI, after he had made campaign promises to stay out of the war.
100 years later, we have a president who made campaign promises to “stop being the world’s policemen” and yet we are now “locked and loaded” for war with Iran, once again on behalf of Israel and Jews.
Philip Giraldi has said it better than I could, but it really seems like Zionist Jews have never seen a war they didn’t like. Which is why brave Anti-Zionist Jews such as Gilad Atzmon are some of the people I have the most respect for in the entire world. God bless him.

Those Jews who are universalist and against all nationalism are not traditional Jews – they are Jews who have been corrupted by the Enlightenment, a European ideology.

One of the most unfortunate situations emerging today is that Jews are being blamed for an intellectual movement created by white Europeans, that is the classic and traditional enemy of everything Jews stand for – the Enlightenment. Greece vs Judea.

This is truly a fine trick of the devil, to distract people – and also reflects the unfortunate fact that white Europeans don’t want to take responsibility for the monster they birthed and unleashed on the world, but would rather seek scapegoats.

As for your comment about Jews living in others homelands, surely Israel was created to cure that – a Jewish return to the land of their ancestors?

    (B) an Aramaic ruling class that come to Canaan with money, pamfhlefts and Persian power
    (C) a religion that spread like fire through gunpowder among women in Greco-Roman times
    (D) the yiddish people

having a very intense literary tradition and very intense beliefs about the past constitute an identity

suppose that the identity of the yiddish people was forged in an intense sentimental link to the story of Don Quixote of la Mancha …

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Quixote

… Does that give them the right to come from Russia to “la Mancha” and unleash terror on the local population of “La Mancha” ?

Unfortunately, the literary tradition of this identity is a bloody Aramaic tradition expressly designed to justify the power and terror of a ruling class over the local population of the land of Canaan and constitute a murderous identity.

to then pretend Palestinians, a virulently nationalistic people, are the “good guys” seems rather absurd.

You are confounding things. There is no sign of nationalism among the Palestinians. They have been fighting against extreme oppression, against violence and against dehumanisation. All this comes from Israel. The question of a Palestinian state is only important as an instrument to garantee the human rights of the Palestinians and their rights to their property that was stolen.

Palestine was developing normally in the 19th century. There was economic growth and progress until the Zionist settlers came. The first settlers were well received. Relations begun to sour only when it got obvious that the new West-Asian and European settlers wanted to expell the native population, the Hebrew Palestinians. Usually people in Europe and Palestinians aren’t virulently nationalistic because they don’t form their identity by opposition to other people, don’t need to hate other people to be themselves.

This paragraph is correctly categorized as hardly semantically-decipherable grandiosity rarely seen out of the sophomore language arts classroom. Before you write, I suggest less caffeine and more sobriety in thought.

You are only a “nation among nations” by your own decree, which is essentially self-permission to make various levels of war with your host nations. Again with the immature grandiosity. Is mass psychotherapy available to assist your people in curing that particular measure of sociopathy? Its why you have been repeatedly pogrommed. Your arrogant self-justification for agitating your hosts seems to justify those efforts against you.

Sounds logical and not like self-serving bullshit propaganda at all. Given your bullshit here, are you sure that pogroms were not justified?

In all these ways Zionism was a splendid success, far beyond what anyone could have envisioned at the time.

Not until all Jews fuck-off back to the desert. Until then, Zionism is a failure.

No, rational thinking is extremely important, and the main problem with the anti-Semites on this site are that they extremely irrational, ignorant of facts, and can’t think clearly and lucidly about the larger picture.

But there is a realm beyond the rational – spirituality, religion, faith, emotion, etc.

The Enlightenment decided that this realm does not exist. That’s why it led to the current insanity.

Obviously Judaism has deep respect for rationality, learning, study, and scholarship.

Greece stands for limiting reality to rationality and the idea that human beings can figure everything out and control their fate using only their reason; Judah stands for spirituality, God, and tradition, and places rationality in the context of these larger things.

  53. Israel would like to be the super-shtetl of the Middle East–that is, a mostly Jewish “town” in the middle of masses of goy peasantry with a Polish magnate (the US) to lay down the stick if one of those peasants so much as looks crossways at a dear Jew.

In Poland, western Ukraine, Lithuania and Belarus, the shtetl dominated the local economy of its local agricultural area in Eastern Europe with Jews providing almost all the commercial and financial services as well as sometimes having tax-farming, estate-management (i.e., lording it over the magnate’s peasants and taking a cut of the revenues from the lands) and and alcohol-monopoly privileges granted to him.

Yes, this is the world the Jew would like to recreate in the Middle East, with Israel’s (much exaggerated) “start-up” and weapons-producing economy being the hub of regional trade and finance. Of course, the locals are still boycotting Israel either de jure or de facto, so the Judenreich must call on Uncle Shmuel bring in the big stick and beat down the kulaks until Israel can be fully imposed on them both politically and economically. There is nothing the Israeli Jew would like better than to be the uber-rentier of the Middle East. But Iran and Turkey are significant impediments to that goal.

Hey, Uncle Shmuel, we need you to beat down the Iranians and the Turks! They don’t love us the way a Jew deserves to be loved by the goyim.

Shtetl as a metaphor works better than the Italian “ghetto.”
