An example of pathological masculinity, male privilege, substance abuse, and patriarchy with overtones of violence against women and people of color, as well as probable homophobia. May drive a truck.

Come morning, I receive emails from friends documenting the curious social transformation coming over the US. These missives usually accompany links to some new tragicomic antics. E.g., Harvard, once a university, lets students invent odd pronouns to promote gender equity. “He” and “she” represent oppression and lack of inclusion.

Recently a friend, a Harvard PhD, wrote and said, “It’s not funny anymore.” I thought, and realized that, no, it isn’t. Things that seemed the obsessions of the occasional lugubrious neurotic are so common that they represent a change in the national character. It is eerie. Something strange is happening.

What now is the national character? What sort of country is America today? A country of rugged individualism? Land of the free and home of the brave? A nation of the independent and self-reliant?

Let us start with Brave.

“Student wearing Halloween costume prompts Pueblo County school lockdown

“Pueblo County High School was on lockdown for more than an hour Wednesday after authorities say a student was apprehended wearing a trench coat and gas mask.”

Or

Panic strikes school after student says ‘gum’

“A student at Lehman High School reportedly asked for some chewing gum, but another student thought the student said “gun,” KCEN reports.

“No gun was found and Hays County, Texas school district spokesman Tim Savoy insists the school was never in “lock down,” though school administrators did “hold students in their extended class periods to investigate….”

Rugged? Not even close. Obesity is so common that the Army has trouble finding recruits. Professors complain of the emotional fragility of the young.

Or

Declining Student Resilience: A Serious Problem for Colleges.”

They cry if they don’t get A’s.

The new gender-neutral Navy. Don’t you feel safer? I do. Not sure of the gender, though.

Psychologists note a surge of narcissism among the young. Students in universities need “safe spaces” where they won’t hear any word or idea that upsets them.

Somebody might do a microaggression or commit a racial slur, such as saying “watermelon.”

The United States has become a nation of weak, pampered, easily frightened, helpless milquetoasts who have never caught a fish, fired a gun, chopped a log, hitchhiked across the country, or been in a schoolyard fight. If their cat dies, they call a grief therapist. Everything frightens Americans.

School District Bans Playing Tag to Ensure the Physical and Emotional Safety of All Students”

Independent? No. America is a nation of employees, afraid of the boss, trapped by the retirement system, worried that if they lose the job they won’t get another one.

Farmers can be independent. So can mechanics with their own tools, commercial fishermen with their own boats. Employees sitting in a maze of cubicles like letters in some gigantic crossword puzzle are not independent.

Self-reliant? Americans now depend on the hive for almost everything. The faucet leaks? Call the plumber. The car makes funny noises? Go to a mechanic. Someone is sneaking around your house at night? Call a cop. A porch light stops working? Call the electrician. You saw a mouse? Call a psychiatrist. Self-defense? Dear God, no. Too macho.

Further, Americans cannot feed themselves. If any catastrophe–revolution, war, epidemic–breaks the link between the two percent who work on farms and the cities, within a week New Yorkers will be eating each other.

Individualism? America is among the least individualistic countries on the planet. The United States discourages everything reflecting difference, whether architectural, political, or cultural, often under heavy penalty. It is the land of indistinguishable shopping malls, of burger chains and tract suburbs of a hundred identical houses. Urban architecture means the office block. Casper looks like Des Moines looks like everywhere else. When a region like the South stubbornly tries to maintain its identity, the hive forces it to conform. I am reminded of what I believe to be a Japanese proverb: “The nail that stands up is beaten down.” We are more a nation less of nails than of thumbtacks, though.

The ferocious American hostility to individualism is most virulent in the form of political correctness, which requires that all of us think the same things. The universities are worst, and they are the future. Once, unpopular ideas were argued and freedom of speech respected, however grudgingly. Today we have the pack mind.

Beyond the insistence that everyone should be like everyone else is the insistence that everyone already is like everyone else. No differences exist between men and women, sex being a social construct, and thus women should be in the Marines. Differences of race do not exist, race being a social construct, so if members of one non-existent race do not do as well at physics as members of another nonexistent race, we must on racial grounds hire them as physicists anyway under affirmative action, since differences are social constructs.

Home of the free? America is controlled, watched, and regulated to a degree unimaginable in 1960. Speakers on subways admonish us to watch other passengers for suspicious behavior. We dance barefoot in airports. Cameras read our license plates and mail us tickets. Freedom of speech? Say anything interpretable as a “racial slur” and you lose your job. Truth has nothing to do with it. You are a reporter? Criticize Israel and you lose your job. Offend the proliferating sexual curiosities and you lose your job. Surveillance cameras are everywhere. Freedom of religion? Overt Christianity is almost illegal.

Ten Commandments Removed from State Capitol per Oklahoma Supreme Court”

You are not free to decide what your children are taught in school. If you suggest that Sojourner Truth was not perhaps as important to civilization as Aristotle, your children will be horrified and, if they mention your heresy at school, you will probably have a visit from Child Protective Services.

Democratic? As Stalin had show trials, America has show elections. These serve to distract the public while keeping them away from issues of importance. Who do you vote for if you want to end the wars, halve the military budget, end affirmative action, get the government out of family life, control criminal minorities who burn cities, and slap down NSA?

Strong? America actually wants weaklings.

  1. I agree. A torrent of examples abound.

As a rule, the millennials I witness who come to ‘work’ at my company are generally incapable, and snowflakes. The rest of us have had to attend classes in order to deal with the new breed, including this: http://braindroppings314159.blogspot.com/2015/03/i-scanned-copy-of-part-of-presentation.html

I suspect in addition to the Progressive Left inculcation they receive at the hands of the educational system, fatherless boys are contributing to this mess.

  4. Women have never been allowed to wear the kind of “cover” (hat) in that picture. See under male and female Enlisted Service Dress. They have to wear a cover that makes them look like officers, which many don’t like for that reason.

  5. Three observations, Fred, which underscore your blog.

First, when I moved to South Florida about 25 years ago, I figured out on my own that there had to be reason why they called the sports teams of the U. of Miami the “Hurricanes.” So whenever a hurricane warning was given (even though I have always lived on a barrier island and often received warnings to vacate, I have never vacated my place because of an approaching hurricane), I prepared by filling up one of my bathtubs with water and filling up several plastic containers with water. One for drinking, and the other for other purposes. Fortunately, I never had to resort to the cost-free water I had provided for an emergency since the water supply was never cut off. (Since my building had a gas connection, I never had to worry about losing the ability to cook. A few times the electric power was lost for several days, but otherwise life went on as before. Since I owned a small boat, I had a relatively large ice chest which allowed me to keep my refrigerated foods cool enough to last until the power was restored.) Imagine my shock when I read and saw on TV instances of the federal FEMA coming down to South Florida to hand out bottled water to the residents. What brainless idiots, I thought, couldn’t take the simple steps I had taken to provide for a backup water supply at no or very little expense and needed the federal government to provide them with expensive bottled water?

Secondly, in the late 90′s, I had to return to the D.C. area to attend a family funeral. I became reacquainted with my brother’s adopted teenage daughter who was reputed to be very smart and, I was assured by her mother, had a keen interest in history. She and her family lived in McLean, Virginia one of the prestigious areas of the D.C. area right across the Potomac River from D.C. On meeting her again, I asked her out of the blue where Western Civilization had started. She drew a complete blank and was utterly unable to respond, as I had been taught in the 8th grade 40 years earlier, that Western Civilization had started with the ancient Greeks. So I concluded that the educational standards had changed dramatically over the years and not for the better, and that may be a very large part of the problem.

Thirdly, when I went away to college in the early 60′s, I made it a point to seek out controversial speakers. I saw Jimmy Hoffa, the controversial head of the Teamsters, Madame Nu (sp?), the infamous “Dragon Lady” who was the sister-in-law of the assassinated former President of South Vietnam, Billy Graham, Norman Mailer, and others. I sought these individuals out not because I shared their views but because I wanted to see what they were like in person and to hear their views. I have a very hard time identifying with the incurious college students of today who appear to be afraid of their own shadow.

  6. I think this has everything to do with the public schools. I remembered during my time in school (20 years ago) that bullies usually presented a no-win situations. If you fight back, you might get beat up or you’ll get suspended. Usually parents of well-behaved children are far stricter than the parents of bullies.
You can’t walk away because you are in the same building with the bullies. When they gang up on you, the teacher usually turns a blind eye. It gets worse if you have to go for after-school day care or summer camp. You’ll usually be bullied there.
If you tattle to the teacher, you get labeled a tattletale and a wimp. Sadly, the only thing you usually can do is tattle to the teacher … which is the exact reason why we are becoming a nation of wimps.

  8. “If you tattle to the teacher, you get labeled a tattletale and a wimp. Sadly, the only thing you usually can do is tattle to the teacher . . . which is the exact reason why we are becoming a nation of wimps.”

The after-school fight–that institution as American as a Currier & Ives print, as American as a Norman Rockwell painting–resolved many a bullying problem in its day. The victim of bullying–assuming he had a sense of self-respect–would inevitably challenge his tormentor to a fight. The two would meet somewhere–a back yard, a vacant lot, the school playground–and duke it out. No matter whose ass got whupped, mutual respect–even friendship–often resulted.

Nobody intervened–no cops, no school authorities, no parents. Everybody realized that one kid–the bullying victim–was standing up for himself, and that the other kid–the bully–deserved to get his comeuppance.

  9. The car makes funny noises? Go to a mechanic.

Fred is mostly right, but I do have to fault him on this one. I grew up in the 80s, the cars I drove had some refinements and advancements, but they were still basically the same as the cars Fred played with in the 50s and 60s. We could do most maintenance and light repairs in the yard, laying on a piece of cardboard, using a $50 set of hand tools.

Today, every thing on a car is electronic and computer controlled. You have to have the right diagnostic reader, the computer codes, and the proprietary screwdriver to remove those proprietary screws. You will spend an hour trying to find all the screws holding the engine cowling on, so you can even see the engine. I guess a legal department somewhere decided that the hood wasn’t enough protection to keep some idiot from sticking his hand in a moving fan belt.

I bought a 2007 truck last year. It had the stock radio in it. I thought “I will change that out for something a little more modern, like I have done myself on every other car I owned using a couple coat hangers, a roll of electrical tape, and a pair of wire cutters.” Turns out you have to disassemble the entire dash to take out the radio. Screw that. Not worth my time or effort.

  10. You can blame technology for some of that. Who that is older than 45 didn’t have a crap car that had to be kept running any way you could? It had spark plugs that got fouled after 6000 miles and a carburetor that always was out of adjustment. Bearings had to be repacked every 12000 miles and replaced every so often. For the intermediate guy they even sold engine rebuilding kits for those old cast iron block push-rod V-8s and you could actually crawl into the engine bay if you were a small guy.

Can’t replace the 40 dollar thermostat controller for the electric fans on your Fiat? Buy a 2 dollar switch and watch the water temp gauge. Can’t fix the 2nd gear syncro ring on your Opel transmission? Learn to skillfully rev the engine and drop the tranny into gear at just the right time. Thank god when the pick you part junk yards showed up and saved you money.

As for your own food, who has gardens anymore? You can’t have them in any place that would make the view unsightly by local ordinances. There are too many people worried about the only financial asset they have – the value of their house.

As for the PC police blame a debt based society – lose you job and lose everything you have worked all your life to obtain.

  11. Excellent point.

  12. I know my father’s generation of WW2 and Korean War vets thought my friends and I were a bunch of long haired wimps, but we all played sports, got into fist fights, went fishing without parental oversight and probably started drinking too young. The kids I meet today are afraid of an ethnic joke, have never had a fistfight and barely know how to turn a screwdriver. I’m told every generation looks down on the one after it, but I think we’re really in trouble now.

  13. A big problem, of course, is the psychobabbling of America. One can’t–shouldn’t!–make any kind of decision for oneself. No, one had better touch base with a “life coach” (!), a psychologist, or some other self-styled know-it-all.

And what’s with this “grief counselor” bullshit? On November 22, 1963, I was nine years old and in the fourth grade at Bremer Elementary School in Minneapolis. Our teacher, a cute chick named Miss Threlkeld, told the class the news that President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas. The kids were shocked, of course, but over the ensuing days and weeks, we got over it–and not a “grief counselor” in sight.

  14. Robert Caro has a memorable account of the teenage Lyndon B. Johnson in the first volume of his great biography of our former President, “The Path to Power” (1982), which covers the years up to 1941. It has been more than 30 years since I read it, but he has an account of LBJ in high school getting into a fight with a much better fighter. LBJ was a big guy himself but scrawny, but he got absolutely whipped. He got knocked down again and again–but he kept getting up again and again, even though his friends kept urging him to give up. He never did, and, as I recall, his far superior opponent finally stopped beating him up. I came away from reading that account with great personal admiration for LBJ, who I thought was one of the worst Presidents we have had in our history because his policies proved so destructive to our country.

  15. come on now, what better way to breed sheep?

  16. Spot on, Fred! Let me throw in another vector. Our social and political malaise is buttressed by the fact we have become a radically feminized society. (The same thing happened to the Romans in the nadir of the Roman Empire in the 4th Century AD.) There are many manifestations of feminism that have gone mainstream in our culture. I’ll mention two of them: (1) “Pretense” (and illusion) and (2) the sanctity of individual “choice”.

A key characteristic of being feminine is a life of “pretense”. Women “pretend” with their makeup, their body shapes, and their clothes. They try to look 18 the rest of their lives. It doesn’t work, but they try. Hence, it is no accident that pretense and illusion have infected our educational system, universities, military, and foreign policy as radical feminism marches through our institutions. There is precedent.

Another characteristic of feminism is the sanctity of individual “choice”, which of course is related to “pretense” since women get to “choose” their looks, their body shapes, and their fashions to create the illusion of youth. Women are used to “choosing” their own realities.

The feminists try to extend the sanctity of individual “choice” to all aspects of life. The universality of “choice” becomes a clarion call to do what you want irrespective of consequences; that is, pretending there are no consequences to behavior. Since all “choices” have equal validity, this is to say that there is no such thing as objective good and objective evil in life. This used to be considered a characteristic of a narcissistic, adolescent view of life, but it is now the mainstream moral perspective of our culture.

At the end of the day, we should fear for our future in a “choice-driven” society driven by pretense and illusion so extreme that it can no longer tell the difference between men and women, good and evil, or war and peace. One might say we have become disillusion.

  17. I have to say this & then I’ll shut up.

World travelers who actually like to listen in on other cultures and, while not speaking the local language, do try hard not to be offensive have, in the past, been obliged to come into close proximity with ‘American’ tourists. These gentry were previously loud, self-important and anxious to be noticed: this has been changing fast because the minority (is it 20%?) of Americans who still hold passports have, for all of the reasons in Fred’s article, been staying home where it’s safe. Those few who do still venture forth tend either to be cautious about being identified or they are the quiet, agreeable few who have always loved to travel and God bless them.

I think we can declare the era of the obnoxious American tourist to be pretty well over – he/she (sorry Fred) who followed in the footsteps of the obnoxious British tourist (long, long gone except perhaps in Spain) has now followed the Brits’ example … to be replaced by, damn it, the obnoxious Chinese tourist!! These latter are, for the most part, mid-low level officials out on a group binge, spending the money they have bilked out of their poor stay-at-home compatriots (whom we never see on the road). Loud, rude and with the most revolting personal habits – they almost make me wish the Americans were back. But, no, not quite.

The “era of the obnoxious American tourist” was largely in the 50′s and 60′s when for the first time in history (not counting various armies and navies), the middle class could afford to travel internationally. Natives of various countries for eons had only been exposed to upper class travelers with refined manners and likely fluent (or at least conversant) in other languages.

  19. Yes, that was a golden era no doubt but don’t forget the businessmen; left to their own resources at night-time, those were hard to take. But nowadays, as they are more buyers than sellers, they tend to get entertained by their hosts and seldom congregate. I’d still say that after 9/11 there was a huge drop in foreign leisure travel by Americans – and as an extensive traveler myself I am not complaining.

  20. The problem with this analysis is it misses the bait and switch in modern society where the liberal left pushes sentimental claptrap outlined above to paper over all the harsh stuff being pushed by the big business minded liberal right – unregulated free trade, uncontrolled immigration, longer working hours and intense competition for decent jobs, having to deal with obnoxious employment agencies or tough government regulations, exposure of children to hard core pornography, exposure to minority violence, kinds that tell adults to f–k off, insane traffic jams, having to spend years in education because companies no longer train on the job, teachers and social workers expected to work miracles with impulsive low IQ kids.

Modern life may be all comically touchy and feeling in diversity seminars, but it isn’t so easy when you’ve been run over by an illegal immigrant or lost your job for the third times in twelve months.

  22. There are a couple of things i find disappointing about articles like this one.
Its not that its incorrect. Most of its points are more or less accurate. Political correctness IS a cultural blight. Kids often are “dumb”; people often are pathetically lacking in self reliance, etc, etc.
However, firstly, an article like this one is obligated to ( at least roughly) explain the cause and effects of contemporary culture. Why the hell IS political correctness such an universal–such an insidious social force ? Feminism ? Yes ? But why? And is it just as much an effect as a cause ?
The other problem is, that how does the “politically correct” nanny state fit in with the ( equally real) authoritarian state ? The State that imprisons more people than ANY state on earth? The state that seemingly allows police to kill hundreds of unarmed citizens every year. The state that needs SWAT teams to deliver minor warrants….The state that has directly or indirectly killed hundreds of thousands/millions of non citizens in a series of dubious, criminal or plain foolish wars. Basically, the state that often seems to not care about/ hold in contempt/ hate/fear its own citizens. How does the nanny state actually FIT with this brutal state ? Oh, SO, “moral” one minute, then SO vicious the next. I want an article that attempts to explain this paradox.

Yep. There’s only one way to deal with bullies and it’s got nothing to do with how fast you can get your to feet move… unless that foot movement is a round-house kick to the jaw.

Decades ago when I was in either Kindergarten or Pre-school, every day this kid always used to come by and knock over my Lincoln Logs that I would be playing with and sometimes hit me. Me being young and raised with manners , I didn’t know how to react to it other than cry and get upset. My mother saw that something was wrong one day and asked me what it was. When I told her, she told me that the next time that he did it to punch him in the face. So next time he did it, I punched him in the face. My mother got called in to talk to the Principal.

Principal: Did you tell your son to hit that boy for knocking down your son’s logs?

My Mother: That’s right I did, and I’ll tell him to do it again.

Some of the greatest advice I’ve ever received. And also one of the greatest examples I’ve ever seen of standing up for your values when my Mother told that Principal what was what. I’ll never forget the incredulous look on his face when she said it… priceless.

And I’ll tell you what, that kid never did it again. And ever since that day no one has ever knocked over my Lincoln Logs or bullied me without getting what they deserve right back… you should SEE the size of the Lincoln Log skyscrapers that I build nowadays, they’re HUGE! And I’ve got castles with moats, and forts, and… :)

That’s how to deal with bullies.

The women are taking over and the men are just letting it happen. Female values and sensitivities are coming to dominate. Eventually, and tragically, even Ralph and Marge’s own progeny turned away from them, joining in the consensus of embarrassment at their middle-class table manners and unearned sense of propriety.

Honestly, I never thought I’d miss Ralph and Marge. But I do – desperately. Better by far their America – of station wagons, wood-panelling, naugahyde hassocks and cloth-coat blandness; and families, and traditions, and some sense of rootedness to both past and future – than the rootless-cosmopolitan, cultural-Jew status we all woke up one day to discover we’d traded all that in for. I wonder – now that loathing our past is pretty much national policy – if our cultural engineers had counted on rightly dreading the future as a possible systemic side effect. No matter; they’re sure to have a pill for that soon enough if they don’t already.

  34. Violence is found in all racial/ethnic groups but it is absurd to pretend that the level of violence is equal between different racial/ethnic groups. The level of violence among NE Asians is far below the level of violence found among African-Americans or in Latin-America. Look up any list of the most violent cities in the world. Note that none of these cities are located in China. China has a very great number of very large cities all of whom have comparatively low levels of violence. Nothing remotely like Detroit or Baltimore.

Your conventional/dogmatized version of WWII being at odds with the reality actually gives rise to a hundred, if not exactly a thousand points of light.

USAians are still, maybe even more committed to targeting a population to hate, then kill in large numbers.

In WWII it took a lot of work to bring the US population around the thoroughly hate the Hun, despite a warm-up session in Woodrow Wilson’s administration. The Creel Commission and Eddie Bernays plowed new Freudian-fertilized fields, from which WWII propagandists reaped a bumper crop — Netanyahu is still gleaning chaff:
“Make new enemies but keep the old,
One is golden and the other pure gold”

    Pardon the distraction –

Turns out WWII warriors were not so bold as Tom Brokaw would have us believe. Robert McNamara revealed that pilots and crews assigned to firebomb Germany would ‘call in sick’ or use other tactics to avoid the mission. The missions had a very high probability of mortality. The problem became so acute that Curtiss LeMay announced that he would lead the missions, and any crew that failed to fully deploy would be subject to court martial. Participation rates soared.

So the WWII fighting spirit was motivated by equal parts propagandized hate of the enemy, and threats to one’s own liberty and wellbeing, just like any other bullying situation.

It should also be noted that WWII was fought by conscripts.

The same formula produces similar results today: USA has institutional means of generating hate of some designated enemy, and of killing them in vast quantities.

But today the killer class is professional; they are safely sheltered from harm — even though their enemy, i.e. Afghanis, are equipped with little more than slingshots and firecrackers and would inflict very little damage even if they did actually engage mano-a-man0. Today’s mighty warriors do battle from air conditioned comfort thousands of miles from their enemy — and they love it; they drive home from work macerating in the juice of a job well done, press the garage door opener and cruise on in, kiss the kids and after a TV dinner confide across the pillow about recording the funeral of the evil dudes they killed that day.

So one thing hasn’t changed since the “greatest generation” firebombed German and Japanese civilians before they mopped up the job with nuclear bombs: the American people can be manipulated into hating, and lied into killing, with abandon.
    And impunity.

Meanwhile no national fuss is made of a 13-year old white girl arrested and charged with assault-and-battery with a weapon for throwing a baby carrot as a school prank that struck. The baby carrot was the weapon. No injuries were sustained from the baby carrot and the girl never intended for the baby carrot to strike the teacher.

  40. I think we al know that we are in trouble. The real question is this: Is there anything that we can do about it?

Do we all just hunker down and wait for society to crumble? Can we consciously build a vigorous society within a decadent society while we wait? Or shall we just make endless comments in these forums until the lights go out?

I’m not trying to be insulting. These are genuine questions. I would love to see all of us putting our energy into building something rather than remarking on the present generation’s failures.

The task is daunting not only due to its size but also due to our divisions. While we all believe in the benefit of a stronger society, I do not think that we believe in the same one. I see Catholics, Protestants, Jews and atheists all commenting here at Unz and having a lot in common. But maybe not enough in common to share a single vision.

Is the solution to be found in a new political party? A religious revival? Something else?

Here’s some sign that Europe is getting less wimpy.

    http://www.wnd.com/2015/10/islamic-invasion-pulls-trigger-europeans-scramble-for-guns/

Irony: American ‘progressives’ have often pointed to Europe(esp northern Europe) as the proper social model.
But the only reason why northern Europe worked so well was because it’s been populated and operated by northern Europeans. With rising diversity, Europe is becoming more like America, even in its views of guns.

American progs envy Europe’s social-democratic system, and European progs envy America’s diversity.

But the two don’t mix. More diverse a nation, less it is able to afford a social-democratic system.

But the puritanical strain in the northern european mindset, here and abroad, blind the elites to the truth.

What a screwed up time to be alive; just glad I’m not 20.

  44. The mailed fist of America’s police state is actually IMO a logical extension of the larger theocratic cathedral under which we all live. When progressives (and we’re all progressives now, er, well, most of us—but not me) are trying to institute Utopia, i.e., The Kingdom of Heaven On Earth, there are no holds that are barred.

Progressivism is so pervasive that essentially everyone lives in that matrix without any sense of it whatsoever. Progressive dogma is identical, however, to religious dogma and others have traced its lineage right back through the 1940′s (the last time Progressives openly acknowledged their religious foundation), through the catastrophes of 1913 (16th & 17th amendments), Lincoln’s War and on down to the Mayflower.

Equalitarianism, blank-slate-human biology, multiculturalism, all of these are part of the radioactive 3rd rail of the State Religion. The existence of reams of Malum-in-se laws filling the prison gulag is simply the progressives sledge-hammering Mankind into God’s Image, one ruined life or one corpse at a time.

No trend lasts forever, but if this one lasts long enough I can imagine a man losing his job and subsequently sent to debtors’ prison for objecting to a 17-year-old male showering nude next to his high school daughter.

My favorite: taking kids at their most impressionable ages (~11-14) and warehousing them in large “middle schools” where they get the full Lord-of-the-Flies treatment by spending most of their time with peers. (Of course, my view is that at this age they should be around mostly adults, and definitely NOT their peers….but that’s not how the hive prefers it.)

The progressive Hive is a lot like a slave plantation; I have no doubt whatsoever that whether real or metaphorical, the people most intent on keeping slaves from escaping are their fellow slaves.

  46. There is no “we.” “We” is an illusion.

Try http://www.socionomics.net for one hypothesis. It posits that we all herd (frankly, that’s obvious) and share an unconscious state of mind, “Social Mood,” with those around us and it brings about clusters of social behavior.

Today we’re pinning the needle on social mood optimism so everything seems possible (even switching sex based on how a person “feels.”) “We” can have limitless guns and butter, “we” can turn imbeciles into mathematicians and engineers, “we” can let girls be boys (because girls can do anything boys can do, honest!), “we” can pay poor people lots of money for simply being poor, “we” can pay big corporations so no one loses out, “we” can open our doors to everyone who wishes to come here (well, I don’t want them on my lawn unless they’re paid to mow it….)…

“We” have run the personal, corporate and national credit card and each time we neared the credit limit “we” asked for and received a higher limit. Now that’s optimism…both on the part of the borrower and the lender.

All of this, too, will change. As stupid as today is, what is coming will be brutal.

Very true. And as another commenter pointed out, this enfeeblement is also accompanied by increased economic competition and insecurity among at least the bottom 60%.

Couldn’t it be that the Keynesian arrangements of the 50′s through the 70′s actually encouraged independence and self-reliance by guaranteeing some economic security as a kind of ‘home base’ from which one could intrepidly venture?

The debt-led neoliberalism of the last 30 years may actually make people dependent on BOTH state, and corporate largesse, thus making them vulnerable to the regimentation and homogeneity demanded by large, anonymous sources of security. Single payer health care and a high minimum wage might make people MORE independent not less by reducing the leverage that large, politically correct employers have over employees.

However, I don’t think it accounts for everything that goes under the label of political correctness or individual enfeeblement – much of it may just be caused by a level of global complexity and specialization which ends up damaging the individual units (humans) on which it is based. That would be the pessimistic view.

The first, some whites are already doing so(preppers) but it’s a fools bet. The government will not allow them to hunker down until things collapse, they will be pursued and their weapons and goods confiscated. You think a Hillary administration will tolerate this? No!!!

The second requires whites to work together for a common purpose, most can or will not work together. Most Americans hate each others guts, especially in white collar jobs. They view everyone as a competitor. These folks are incapable of anything except ratting each other out.

The third, is what most whites will do until they are kicked into the streets and simply roll over and die.

Originally the 2nd amendment was meant as a dead man’s switch of sorts to protect us against such predations that we now face. That if things went pear shaped in the government we could replace it. That’s not possible anymore. Most whites fractured along political and economic lines. The upper middle and upper classes like things the way they are. Same with government workers. The middle-class knows something is really wrong but they still believe the system works and will protect them. The working class knows its all a sham but the other classes despise them.

This is how you get whites laughing at Branch Davidians being burned alive by ATF and FBI agents. 50 years earlier whites would have went hunting for Feds over something like that.

Of course, you could argue that the ability of whites to move away from California, Texas and South Africa keep the lid on things, but I’m not sure that I buy that completely. For one thing, whites aren’t moving away from Texas.

So long as upper-middle class whites can insulate themselves from the brown horde, nothing will be done. However, by the time that those whites finally find themselves up to their neck, it’ll likely be too late.

And it’s also disingenuous to attribute that to race and not to the surrounding environment which our government has caused that fact to be true in.

There is of course the obvious socio-economic factors and racial discrimination. The fact of living in urban enviornments(public housing, more people living closer together with fewer resources equals more violence and more crime). The Drug war(CIA flooding Black neighborhoods with drugs). And Justice system war(Blacks receiving harsher sentences). But the MOST effective war in America that has been waged on the Black population is the ALL OUT Culture War.

The Elite have used the media to try to brainwash the Black population by feeding it NOTHING but negative stereotypes in an attempt to destroy the basis of culture, a strong family structure and a positive self-image. They do it through movies, music, television, books, and all designed with the purpose of brainwashing Black people into thinking things like being a thug is cool, guns are cool, having a street rep is cool, selling drugs is cool, and shooting people is cool. I ask you who is running this media and financing these disgusting negative stereotypes of “Bitches and Ho’s” and “Thugs and guns” that are never-endingly pumped into the black psyche and seeks to destroy any positive Black self-image or positive thoughts. It ain’t the Black population controlling the media. It’s the Elite.

Couple this incredibly intense Culture War along with the covert government targeting of ANY Black leader who isn’t going along with or threatens their agenda(Co-intelpro assasinations and set-ups for prison or disgrace). And also along with the financing of fake black leaders to further the Elite’s agenda by misleading people and keep them in a victim-hood and slave mentality. And then the final coup de grace of HORRIBLE education systems… and you will find THE reasons for the high Black crime and violence rate in America.

The American Black population has been mentally enslaved through the brainwashing of the media and their use of sell-out pawns that put personal gain over giving the culture positive conscious Black role models to follow. You pump sex, drugs, and violence in; and sex, drugs and violence is what you’re going to get out.

You are making the mistake of equating things that are WHOLLY attributable to environment, to race. I’ve already given the reason above for the Black crime rate in America. Latin-America has been turned into a Narco-State by our Elite and by people seeking personal gain. If all Latin-Americans were somehow magically to switch locations with all Asians, you would see the EXACT same results. And China has EXTREMELY severe punishments for drugs, and that is their CULTURE. It’s environment, NOT race. Even in WW2 the US troops seemed impressive because they had overwhelming material superiority. The US had total air superiority. They had a massive superiority in fire power. On those occasions when they lacked those advantages they weren’t quite so impressive (the Philippines, Tunisia).

  59. To be fair, the first few decades after the war the rest of the industrialized world was still largely rebuilding and restarting. The US, in clear contrast to the UK and especially Germany and Japan, had its infrastructure remain intact throughout the war and lost at least an order of magnitude fewer people than the Axis powers. Those good times were destined to come to an end once other nations caught up.

  60. First, what is the color of the sky in your world? ;)

Yes, all American black dysfunction is the result of the ever-easy explanation of racism. That explains all without having to muster any evidence, which is awfully convenient for you folks.

But a few minor points. First, if white racism is so prevalent, why do Asian Americans have a lower crime rate than whites. I mean, yea, maybe we’re a bit less racist against Asians than blacks but wouldn’t that still lead to Asians being in between blacks and whites in terms of crime. Same goes for Hispanics. They’ve certainly felt the brunt of white racism, so why aren’t they as violent as blacks.

Second, blacks are violent wherever the live. They have higher crime rates in goody-two-shoes Canada where slavery didn’t exist. Practically every country in the world run by blacks has very high levels of violence. And yet, every NE Asian country has very low levels of violence, including Japan which is not particularly tough on crime.

Finally, blacks commit violent crime at seven times the rate of whites; therefore, the null hypothesis is that blacks are more violent than whites. It’s your job to prove that something else is responsible. And, no, just screaming “racism” really loudly doesn’t prove anything other than you can’t think for yourself. Saying that the legacy of slavery or a mysteriously imposed culture caused it doesn’t prove anything.

Unlike most guilt-ridden whites, people around here don’t fall for the disparate impact argument that anytime there are unequal outcomes, it’s the fault of whites. The statistics back up what everyone – including blacks – see with their own eyes: Blacks are really violent and none too bright.

Prove the racism. Show us those large communities (countries, cities) of low-violence, high- achieving blacks whose violent tendencies aren’t keep down through force.

We live in an environment that results from the spontaneously organized actions of the irrational animals who surround us. This is how it is and always will be until humans become fictional Star Trek Vulcans.

  70. When resources are perceived limitless we get “We Are The World” folly. Here at apogee of this we see truly lunatic beliefs being promoted as “mainstream” (e.g., Hollywood and its embedded Left normalizing gay, trans, multi-culti to the point where Joe Citizen thinks 30% of the population is gay.)

The “let us import low IQ people from violent places” is Poster Child for the belief that by importing Person H from Country H with Culture H to Country US, in no time Person H will display Culture US. Perhaps Country US is actually Country Unicorn.

This is no less delusional than trying to mainstream the notion that a 17 year old who has an XY chromosome pair in every cell of his body can simply declare himself a girl and insist that he shower nude next to 16- and 17-year-old girls in the high school locker room. The Left (which is the clergy of the Universal Church of USA) is having difficulty selling this one.

When this 50 year diversion into “partying on the credit card” monetary folly ends (no trend lasts forever), and people suddenly recognize that not only are resources very limited, the “party” burned half the farm on which the future depends to the ground, all this cultural Marxism will be marched to the wall and executed.

(Of course, not too sure whether you think that they’d rise to NE Asian levels.)

Yes, intelligence, criminality, unwed mothers, etc., are the product of nature and nurture, with nature accounting for ~50% to 60% and shared environment (whatever that means) accounting for the rest. However, there’s no proof that blacks’ shared environment is dominated by white racism or impacted at all by racism. Indeed, the dysfunction of blacks in Africa indicates that white aren’t responsible for any of the impact of shared environment because African blacks are total f#@$-ups with nary a white face in the whole country.

Now, if you can muster evidence to prove that white racism dominates American blacks’ shared environment, go right ahead. (Of course, the vast majority of black dysfunction would still be genetic, but what are you going to do.) Until then, save your chants of racism for the Oberlin dorm rooms.

No, it is institutionalized racism that is the problem. If only the Elite would stop their all out war on Black Culture and ALL of us, we ALL just might get somewhere.

However, there’s no proof that blacks’ shared environment is dominated by white racism or impacted at all by racism.

The War on Drugs. The War on Drugs has incarcerated disproportionately high numbers of African-Americans. However, the damage has compounded beyond individuals and their families to affect African-American communities as a whole. “According to a 2006 report by the American Civil Liberties Union, African Americans make up an estimated 15% of drug users, but they account for 37% of those arrested on drug charges, 59% of those convicted and 74% of all drug offenders sentenced to prison. Or consider this: The U.S. has 260,000 people in state prisons on nonviolent drug charges; 183,200 (more than 70%) of them are black or Latino.” Everyone does drugs, but minorities are unequally punished for it. Black and white populations use drugs at similar rates. Although black people are much more likely to be sent to jail for drug possession, they’re not more likely to use drugs. In 2007, black people were 3.6 times more likely to be arrested for drugs than white people. Now explain to me how this doesn’t show the impact of institutionalized racism?

    http://www.vox.com/2014/7/1/5850830/war-on-drugs-racist-minorities

    http://www.alternet.org/story/49782/the_war_on_drugs_is_really_a_war_on_minorities

Indeed, the dysfunction of blacks in Africa indicates that white aren’t responsible for any of the impact of shared environment because African blacks are total f#@$-ups with nary a white face in the whole country.

Africa is the worlds leading natural resources provider. It’s resources make the world go round. The Elite and their multi-national-corporations used to exploit it’s people through slavery and now they exploit it’s people AND it’s resources. They set-up Banana Republics to do this by financing and arming them. Much in the same as in America, the Elite find their sell-outs who are willing to put personal gain ahead of the good of the country and they put them at the head of these Banana Republics so that they can more easily exploit the resources. Libya is a prime example of this. Gadaffi was put into power in Libya by the US so that the corporations could rape Libya. Gadaffi turned on his CIA handlers and began working for the good of his people instead. Gadaffi tried to organize the countries of Africa into the African Union and set up an African investment bank, an African monetary fund and an African central bank that would be backed by Gold and would rival the Elite’s World Bank and IMF. The Elite couldn’t have that happen which would result in their losing control of their puppet-governments and so… no more Gadaffi. Instead there is chaos and death everywhere in Africa… just as the Elite like it. As Rothschild said, “When there’s blood in the streets, there’s money to be made.”

THAT is the reason for the, as you say, “dysfunction of blacks in Africa”.

“Gaddafi made good use of Libya’s oil wealth and completely restructured the country. All Libyans enjoyed free electricity, water, education, housing assistance, interest-free state loans, disability and old-age benefits, as well as generous subsidies to study abroad, buy a car, help newly-weds, practically free gasoline, cheap food, and a lot more. Gaddafi also made sure that no Islamic fundamentalist movement would take power, like happened in Algeria where tens of thousands were killed as a result. Libya became one of the most stable countries in the Arab world, and the most thriving in the African continent.” That is until the Elite wiped him out as I explained above.

BS. Minorities are disproportionately involved in dealing drugs, especially at the street level and as part of gang activity. They go to prison because they won’t rat on the next level up in the network which is usually the gang leadership.

Nobody does time for buying and using small amounts of drugs anymore unless you are a gang member or career criminal who the cops want put away for other crimes they can’t prove and this is the way to get you off the streets for a while.

I’m in total agreement with you. I regard myself as a HBDer. I think that in the 50s black dysfunction was a manageable problem, until liberals turned it into an unmanageable one.

Another factor in increasing black dysfunction has been of course the disappearance of the kinds of jobs that blacks were working in in the 50s – things like manufacturing jobs.

Agreed. In fact the irony is that much (if not most) of the damage to black communities has been done by people who consider themselves to be anti-racists.

It’s the entirely false belief among blacks that they are victims of racism that fuels the irrational anger and resentment and despair that in turns fuels black dysfunction. That false belief is pushed by “anti-racist” liberals.

The chief exports of the US these days seem to be war, sexual degeneracy and crazy wrong-headed ideologies.

  87. It is very easy for feminists to make men subservient and second class citizens.

    1. Men are terrified of being considered wimps. Men are afraid that if they do not stoically take whatever is being dished out that they will be perceived as wimps who can’t handle it and are concerned about others’ opinions. Feminist reinforce this by calling them wimps when they speak out. Men shut up.

    2. Liberal men are terrified of being seen as racist/sexist/Islamophobic. They have been brainwashed into believing that the worst thing a person can be is to not be compassionate and to fit in they have adopted the definition of the left as to what being compassionate means.

    3. Men desperately want sex and will put up with almost anything to get it. Watch conversations in Liberal cities and you’ll see the man being the passive person in the conversation, playing the role women often used to play. He is afraid that if he contradicts the woman he won’t get laid. On the flip side of this, many men feel that if they play the good feminist, they will get laid. Walk down memory lane, this got many a young man to go to peace marches in the 60′s to score with hippy chicks without bras.

  88. 4. The education system from Kindergarten up along with the media works overtime to convince boys that girl behavior is the good behavior. White boys, probably stemming from white guilt, buy this unlike most other boys.

  89. I think a large amount of our immigration and minority set-aside policy was driven by business leaders who did not want to hire blacks. Instead, they got the system to allow the more compliant Hispanics in. To get around affirmative action set-asides they had to also declare people who just hopped a fence “disadvantaged” and objects of “racism” in order for a business to hire them over blacks without worrying about a lawsuit.

That seemingly solved business’ problem but not society’s since the blacks had to be put on some form of welfare.

“Race has been and remains inextricably involved in drug law enforcement, shaping the public perception of and response to the drug problem. (16) A recent study in Seattle is illustrative. Although the majority of those who shared, sold, or transferred serious drugs (17) in Seattle are white (indeed seventy percent of the general Seattle population is white), almost two-thirds (64.2%) of drug arrestees are black. The racially disproportionate drug arrests result from the police department’s emphasis on the outdoor drug market in the racially diverse downtown area of the city, its lack of attention to other outdoor markets that are predominantly white, and its emphasis on crack. Three-quarters of the drug arrests were crack-related even though only an estimated one-third of the city’s drug transactions involved crack. (18) Whites constitute the majority of those who deliver methamphetamine, ecstasy, powder cocaine, and heroin in Seattle; blacks are the majority of those who deliver crack. Not surprisingly then, seventy-nine percent of those arrested on crack charges were black. (19) The researchers could not find a “racially neutral” explanation for the police prioritization of the downtown drug markets and crack. The focus on crack offenders, for example, did not appear to be a function of the frequency of crack transactions compared to other drugs, public safety or public health concerns, crime rates, or citizen complaints. The researchers ultimately concluded that the Seattle Police Department’s drug law enforcement efforts reflect implicit racial bias: the unconscious impact of race on official perceptions of who and what constitutes Seattle’s drug problem…. Indeed, the widespread racial typification of drug offenders as racialized “others” has deep historical roots and was intensified by the diffusion of potent cultural images of dangerous black crack offenders. These images appear to have had a powerful impact on popular perceptions of potential drug offenders, and, as a result, law enforcement practices in Seattle. The racial dynamics reflected in Seattle’s current drug law enforcement priorities are long-standing and can be found across the country.”

Yeah like I said dealers, career criminals and gang members. Thank you for making my point.

People not selling out in plain sight have to be caught by setting the dealers up and that takes a lot of work and users willing to risk their own lives to avoid what in many cases are not very significant sentences. You seem to think that they are not going after the meth guys because of racism when it is because of the difficulty in making cases against them. 94. Let’s get your argument straight:

    1. All black dysfunction beyond the level of whites is caused by institutional racism. Slavery, colonialism, bad media portrayals, etc., has destroyed the black family, culture and identity around world, even causing the children of wealthy blacks to perform at about the level of the poorest whites.

    2. However, white institutional racism and colonialism didn’t doom Asian Americans or Asian countries for some reason and seems to not be slowing down South Asians or South Asian Americans.

    3. Somehow institutional racism manages to cause blacks to continually score right about one standard deviation on IQ or any g-loaded test below whites while simultaneously managing to cause Asians to continually scores about 1/3 of a standard deviation above whites. (Elite whites really know how to very finely gauged their institutional racism to keep IQ scores in such tight ranges.)

    4. The Theory of Evolution is bunk. We know that plants and animals evolve very quickly when placed in very different environments, sometimes only needing a few hundred years to change dramatically. Given that human groups have been in very different environments (and cultures) for 50,000 to 100,000, we would expect very large changes in those groups. Indeed, we see that with different skin tones, skeletal shapes, muscle density, cranium sizes, etc. But miraculously those changes didn’t impact the brain in any way. If that’s the case, something is seriously wrong with the Theory of Evolution.

    5. Genetics is bunk. Genetic testing can tell you whether your white, black, native American, Asian or a mix. Genetic testing is also finding genes linked to a whole host of human traits. But you’re saying that’s all wrong. Therefore, genetics is bunk.

Look, I could go on, but you’re either some 22-year-old kid with a good heart but who’s been brainwashed so badly that you’ll just need to see all of this stuff for yourself or you’re a complete nut job. Either way, nothing I say or anyone else says will matter.

Yes I see what you’re saying in terms of open air markets. But the fact that the Drug War is focused on urban areas when it is a crime that is occurring in areas ALL over the nation shows that it’s intent is NOT to stop drugs. Methods of policing need to be fixed.

It seems that the best way to prove the Institutionalized Racism of the War on Drugs is the disparity in sentencing of drug offenses… besides of course the fact that it was started by racist-ass-Nixon whose Chief of Staff Haldeman stated in his diary that the President “emphasized that you have to face the fact that the whole problem is really the blacks. The key is to devise a system that recognizes this without appearing to.”

But back to disparity in sentencing, the following is from the Vox article which I earlier posted in a link above and uses statistics from the United States Sentencing Commission for which I’ve provided a link below.

“Drug sentences for black men were 13.1 percent longer than drug sentences for white men between 2007 and 2009, according to a 2012 report from the US Sentencing Commission.

That disparity has been true for most recent history. Black men received 9.1 percent longer drug sentences between 2005 and 2007 and 9.2 percent longer drug sentences between 1998 and 2003. There was no statistically significant difference in drug sentences for black and white men in 2003 and 2004.”

    http://www.ussc.gov/news/congressional-testimony-and-reports/booker-reports/report-continuing-impact-united-states-v-booker-federal-sentencing

The following is from a report by The Sentencing Project on pages 12 and 13 that finds that “blacks charged with drug offenses were 3.6 times more likely than similarly situated whites to be sentenced as habitual offenders.”

I hope that it meets the appropriate level of being an unbiased source being that right-wing biased sources seem to conveniently not have done any studies on it. :)

  97. Unless you know anything about their prior convictions or the circumstances around their arrest and criminal relationships you don’t know anything and Vox is not an unbiased source. A lot of charges are dropped to get a plea deal and a lot of jail time is dropped as well. Blacks tend to be more violent and associated with more violent partners in crime, they just dropped the felon with a gun charge and the assault with a deadly weapon charge.

Everything in that Sentencing project report is vague and without any substantial background. Blacks and Hispanics tend to be violent gang members when involved with drug trafficking and pretending that drug sales is all they were up to is typical of these one sided reports. Terms like “similarly situated” are the kind of weasel words used to hide facts they don’t want people to know.

No it isn’t unbiased, but the United States Sentencing Commission IS unbiased…or more trustworthy anyway. I agree with you that the second report from the Sentencing project report is vague in terms of the “similary situated” term, but if you go to the link that I have provided below to the actual report that they used you will see how they came up with the statistics in a complete breakdown. They are on the bottom of page 498 which shows the “blacks charged with drug offenses were 3.6 times more likely than similarly situated whites to be sentenced as habitual offenders” statistic. And on pages 502, 500, 498, 495, and 492 they have charts which explain what they used to constitute habitual offenders and what qualified them to be in the report.

That was back in the late 50′s. I happened to work with a number of Blacks. The only difference was that the job for them was their second or third job, while for me it was my only job. When I later heard comments about how “lazy” Blacks were, I had to shake my head in disbelief. Based on my experience, they were as hard working as I, and I always prided myself as being a hard worker. I believe you fail to take into account the effect of the Immigration Act of 1965 which, in effect, opened up the lower paying jobs, which had previously been filled by Blacks and lower paid Whites, to foreign competition. I’m not saying that Black society was perfect back in the 50′s, but based on my experience and knowledge, there was much greater stability and cohesion in black families because the head of household was a pretty hard-working man and he could find employment.

I agree. We need to be realistic about jobs. Not everyone (white or black) can be a doctor or an engineer. We need to ensure that there are decent unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled jobs for people who might not be cut out to be engineers but who are still capable of leading useful, productive and fulfilling lives. If we only provide decent jobs for the college-educated folks and ignore ordinary working-class people we will inevitably end up with a disillusioned, demoralised and troublesome underclass. And we will end up with even more family disintegration, and social disintegration.

Which is what has happened (and not just in the US). In the 50s there were plenty of OK jobs for working-class people and working-class people could aspire to home ownership, marriage and raising a family.

there was much greater stability and cohesion in black families because the head of household was a pretty hard-working man and he could find employment.

Precisely. So black families (and working-class white families) had pride and they had hope.

Well, I’m a 54-yo who’s considered “past his prime” so I’m pretty much locked out of most jobs in Silicon Valley now because I’m consider “unsuitable technically and culturally”. That’s the shibboleth for age discrimination these days. I do keep a list of those HR and hiring managers who exhibit this kind of bigotry – what comes around goes around.

YET I did just a little online research on the subject of modern auto repair and discovered I could talk to my car’s computer using a USB-ODB-II adapter that can plug into any car made after 1995 and I can pull off all that computer magic that is supposedly inaccessible. It turns out that there really isn’t much skill involved to it – the garage uses the same trick (“Go to the fridge and get the box!”)

And honestly with just that little bit of knowledge, I can diagnose and repair things that were even impossible “in the good old days” when cars didn’t have computers (and yes I used to repair my parents carbureted, distributor-timed V8 cars the old-school way). You might want to try that if you’d like to repair a “modern” car. It’s not inaccessible unless you chose to let it be.

Honestly, the internet is an embarrassment of riches in this sense yet my observation is that 90% of “kids” today are incapable of using it. They can’t even formulate a simple Google query if their lives depended on it. You only have to spend 5 minutes on sites like Quora so see this. Take any question asked, pop it verbatim into Google and see how many times their question is trivially answered within the first 5 links returned!! From my experience: 90% (hence my claim 90% can’t Google). The crazy part is that Google would have been faster and less effort!

It might well be tech that causes this. I’m old enough to have been forced to use a card catalog to find things at a library. Because of the effort that takes (finding the book card, going into the stacks, discovering the book didn’t apply, returning again to look further, etc.), I developed an economy of keyword searching, quick summary, speed reading and evaluation of “information resources” (called books back in the day; now Google queries and hits) which apparently kids are incapable of learning.

Where’s the incentive I suppose. So too much technology adoption could be the problem – like how studies are now showing that computers in the classroom hurt more than they help. I can see that. But problem is computers get used as babysitters and excuses for teachers to not teach harder, more fundamental things. Being test-oriented pretty much takes up all the time to actually teach anything.

And yes, they are delicate snowflakes that can’t handle even the smallest pressure. At least those who go to “big name” university. They are the worst if running a business matters to you. You can’t delegate anything to them because they’ve never been allowed to do anything independently. They seem to want to be micromanaged but that’s not the reason why anyone hires people – you hire them so you don’t have to do the job yourself because the person can/will operate mostly independently given just a bit of instruction. Heaven help you if you hire someone from big name school to do that!

You can still find a few gems IF you look for kids that 1) didn’t grow easily in a suburban middle class life (i.e. ones that actually had to face harsh reality at some point) and 2) went to a more practical, 2nd or 3rd tier university which often still emphasize a) learning things well and for the sakes of learning, b) learning practical, reality-based things, and 3) they didn’t have messed parents with death fear/denial issues. These kids have what we used to call “grit”. Otherwise, I don’t know why companies would hire most of the “top grads” these days.

One guy I work with who is 10x the employee of a typical college grad happens to have been home-school, is an autodidact and outperforms everyone. Basically he was never “indoctrinated”. Hard to come by but I’d rather have 50 like him than 1 typical college grad today.

In fact, I completely understand why H1Bs and foreign call centers are often preferred: for the same reason above; you get kids who have a backbone and have some practical common sense – because in India, these values still matter as the “luxury to pretend and call it reality” doesn’t exist.

I would agree. That’s why I don’t understand the emphasis on the Ivies and other top-tier universities on this site, and the bashing of lower tier universities. If anything, the Ivies are even more brainwashing factories than the rest of US education. A lot of the worst aspects of our current culture come from there. What Buckley said about Harvard still applies.

  116. Arguing with HBDers is like arguing with Scientologists. The people here might as well be preoccupied with engrams and the tone scale. The tone scale is actually very similar to HBD concepts.

  117. You can add “obsessive drive for an absolute security”. The most feminine feature of them all.

The ‘offensive’ marble statue of the 10 Commandments was located on the back side of the Oklahoma state capitol building – one literally had to go look for it to find it. The statue was taken away late at night so that there would not be any media-worthy incidents. Oklahoma – where the last Confederate general – Stand Waite – surrendered – will not fly even the First Flag of The Confederacy [not the Battle Flag] alongside the numerous, other flags which represent the different influences on Oklahoma history [Texas flag, Spanish flag, French flag, etc.] for fear of offending someone. Of course, Oklahoma state is a little different – the local media had a field day when the Governor’s daughter was living in a RV behind the Governor’s Mansion.
