Liberals are supposed to be antiwar, right? I went to college in the 1960s, when students nationwide were rising up in opposition to the Vietnam War. I was a Young Republican back then and supported the war through sheer ignorance and dislike of the sanctimoniousness of the protesters, some of whom were surely making their...

Well, I think we know which ethnic group (many of that group's members, not all) wants the US to fight endless wars in the Middle East of behalf of a certain little Middle Eastern country and which wants the US to destroy Russia.

Hint: That ethnic group is not Christian.

Question: When will Christian Americans take back their country and stop pandering to that ethnic group?

I have tried to be tactful.

Churches are not allowed by law to stand up or they get their tax cuts taken away. Churches are exempt from some taxes.

  • The problem now is there is no middle class. It was literally ripped apart by the left and right caving in and forming their own one world system. The people who knew how to make things are either dying or dead. This generation for the most part wants lazyness and everything handed to them. They believe the US Government “owes” them something.

  • We are like 1940 all over again with run away Tarrifs and Europe being an awful mess. The purpose of Tarrifs is that by making things more expensive overseas people will be forced to make in America again. There is almost nothing made in America. Half our own military equipment is made in China and assembled here.

It got so confusing that a law was passed that if a sticker said “Made in America” then it was but it was the sticker that was made in the US because parts from different countries would go into one machine.

The problem lies that big corporations believe machines should break after warranty so people will keep (re) buying broken junk. Oliver Twist was about the Industrial age revolting when machines were taking over and skilled workers were worried about quality going away as any object was done by one or two human workers with their hands guiding tools.

They stopped protesting when it was agreed that machines would not ruin quality but preserve it by doing the same things and getting higher wages for operating the machines.

In the 1960s and onwards big companies collaborated that machines shouldn’t be so good as to mimic human hands or nobody would buy anything so decided to purposely make machines defective after a certain date. There is a term for that I can’t remember but describes what it means.

  • Neocon Max Boot now says it’s better for the Syrian people if Assad stays in power. But we still can’t get the American left to come to its senses about Syria. Louis Proyect says in Counterpunch that the suffering coming out of East Ghouta is “on a massive scale reminiscent of Leningrad in 1941.” According...

  • Proyect is better considered “pseudo-left”. He has also claimed the White Helmets to be heroes and that the Syrian “revolution” is a worker’s revolt which will establish a progressive paradise. When challenged, he reverts to insults and exaggerated projections.

Information from official policy documents dating back to 2012-13, either leaked or obtained through FOI inquiries, made it clear the plan was to first use imported jihadist fighters to overthrow Assad and then use NATO to intervene and defeat the jihadists. That is, Syria’s citizens were intended to suffer two major conflicts and end up a NATO protectorate. And the cooks of that vile broth have been the loudest and most shrill invoking “humanitarian” concern.

  • Assad and Putin are bringing a horrible end to the carnage in Syria as opposed to the Saudi, Israeli and US-preferred endless horror.

This was always the choice, and those who claimed “humanitarian” justifications for supporting the rebels were always the ones promoting and prolonging the suffering.

Neocon Max Boot now says it’s better for the Syrian people if Assad stays in power.

He says that, but if you read the piece all he is really doing is trying to cut neocon losses and hold onto a partitioned Syria.

He claims to believe “Tyranny is preferable to endless and useless war“, but like all neocons he sheds crocodile tears while actually pushing for endless and useless war. He wants the US to remain illegally occupying Syrian land, and to use spurious pretexts involving supposed chemical weapons attacks to wage illegal war on the Syrian government.

No neocon should ever be rehabilitated to civilised society until he has made a proper and convincing mea culpa for his past criminal advocacies.

In the case of Max Boot, if he ever does write a plausible piece on international relations that is not a mere apology and rationalisation for warmongering interventionism (as was the linked WP piece), then perhaps he could be rehabilitated if he were also to engage in a proper and convincing act of contrition for his advocacy of bloody rebellion in Syria, as well.

I propose the Japanese Yakuza tradition of yubitsume. Any former neocon should be required to carry out the televised ceremonial severing of one joint of his little finger for each war he has supported. After that, they can be regarded as probationary civilised men again.

  • Two blocks from my front door, there are two signs in a house window, “FASCIST SCUM YOUR TIME IS DONE,” “WHITE SUPREMACY IS TERRORISM.” Seeing them, my 71-year-old friend, Felix, snarled, “I feel like throwing a rock through that window! How dare he comes into this neighborhood and calls us Fascists!” Interesting, Felix’ immediate assumption...
  • Exactly. Talk about a false dichotomy. My history prof tore it apart and proved that fascism is identical to communism. Both are oligarchies with the rich making the decisions and screwing the huge majority of serfs.

False duality everywhere, demoncraps vs repugnantcunts, anyone?

the United States is a totally artificial nation with no national identity, no shared culture.

    Bullshit.

You know, your argumentation is going downhill rapidly. Did you get infected by a brain maggot or what?

No we are to young of a nation to have any culture, simply like a 14 year old running high on hormones, why do you think we run all over the world killing raping and looting, maybe in another 400 years we will develope somewhat of a culture but that’s not a given either…

  • @bossel

Can you imagine any of Trump’s middle-American supporters accusing Obama of lusting for incest with his daughters?

IIRC, there was this accusation of Clinton running a child molestation ring. Not that much of a difference there, I suppose. Both sides have a lot of idiots. That's political activism for you.

Daily Mail for describing Melania as “a high-end escort”–i.e., a take-out call girl, a prostitute. Can you imagine a conservative paper

Err..., the Daily Mail is a conservative paper.

Vulgarity is not liberalism. Neither is arson. Neither is suppression of free speech.

On the one hand promoting free speech, on the other hand complaining about vulgarity? Not very coherent. If you have free speech, vulgarity is covered by it.
&, again, vulgarity comes from supporters of both sides (to varying degrees & in various forms, but still).

This is inferior and shallow commentary. Freedom of SPEECH, political and substantially concrete, is what the Amendment is meant to convey. Freedom of EXPRESSION is a transgressive and a turd on the dinner table. A monkey has expressions. Taking shit in Times Square is an expression. Burning the flag is expression. Disrupting traffic is ditto. If you have something to say, say it. Get a permit to occupy public space and don’t impede my movements, or one day I may impede yours-permanently.

    another fred,

"China is demolishing the homes of “migrant” workers. It was said that 8 million people have been made homeless."

Following a fire that killed 19 and injured 8 last month, is it wrong to clear similar setting of buildings that have broken regulations in the first place?

Migrant workers don't own these buildings, they're tenants. These buildings are in the villages near the city, so they're on rural land, which can't be sold only rent. The problem here isn't demolishing, but short notice for the tenants.

And there's no way it sent 8 million people homeless. Do you have any idea how large a crowd is 8 million? Even if you pack every side walk with homeless people, you still can't contain close to 40% of the population in a city. If you ever witnessed a fire scene in city, you would have an idea how many sidewalks it takes for the evacuated to just stand there.

My point was not that the destruction of the houses was an irrational or immoral act, but that it was rational in the face of the pressures generated by the population level. As I said in #32 above:

A system under stress reacts in a direction to relieve the stress.

As long as the world is overpopulated it will continue to slide towards “overweening state power”.

While the word “overweening” does have a bit of a moral connotation to it, I placed it in quotes because Dinh had used it and to show that it was not my choice of words.

Population pressures will force a great many hard choices on the world in the century ahead, choices that will be among a group of painful options with no painless options available.

The 8 million was a figure used in the news report I saw. I assumed it was meant to represent some sort of nationwide figure, but it was careless of me to throw it in.

The futility of politics when it descends into interpersonal and even family conflicts.

As expected, the educated and rather comfortable U.R. readers and commenters are treated by Linh Dinh to a gaze into the diverse zeitgeist, shared by average Amerikans.

Decades ago, I recall Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's short work, "Warning to the West."

Among his important points was a prediction on an (inevitable) capitalist and communist system convergence.

Of course, crooked US scholars and political elite of the period scoffed at Solzhenitzyn's shallow understanding of economics.

As a few decades have passed since the warning to the West, I see A.S.'s prediction as deceptively & silently fulfilled.

Zio globalist-totalitarianism is presently the freak-child of capitalist and communist ideological intercourse.

(Note: Not to be presumptuous, but Linh Dinh might have written their "fucking.")

Let me first say that I am a fascist, the serious type, not the joking type that thinks green frogs and fooling around at 4chan or /pol/ is fascism. I don't believe in universal suffrage, racial equality and that jews are the enemy of people who value their nation.

Having said that lets inspect the following that Dinh said: "Overweening state power, as epitomized by both Communism and Fascism". First of all, the Vietnam war, last time I checked it wasn't fascists (or even communists) that dropped napalm and agent orange on Vietnam, it was the overweening state power of democracy. What about the surveillance state, there is no equal in history to the US and its puppet regimes when it comes to the magnitude of spying on people. How about things like transgender toilets, arresting bakers for not serving homosexual weddings, or erasing history, again not fascists or communist regimes doing this. Finally, going back to Vietnam, the idea that foreigners can move in and declare themselves natives, that is a pretty extreme ideology to adhere to, I suppose Dinh has no problem if millions of Africans moved to Vietnam and declared themselves Vietnamese...

And what exactly is democracy anyway, one does not have to be a fascist to be aware that democracy in the end means being ruled the by the mass media (this term includes both the old and the newer outlets such as Google and Facebook), to be ruled by a few big corporate media outlets seems extreme to me, much more extreme that being ruled by those that state they are there to serve the nation (not a secret whose interests the big media serves).

Let’s put it this way: In my home in socialist Europe, I get two choices for the amount of water I can flush down the toilet (a little for #1 and a lot for #2), and I can shower with whatever water pressure I choose. In my home in the Land of the Free®, I get government mandated low-flow toilets and shower-heads. The only consolation you might have is that the EC is doubling down on regulation to save the planet, so eventually the EU will be as free as the US.

Philly is a pretty boisterous, hard knuckle town. Very much in the shadow of New York.

Here in redneck upstate NY, not much political battle going on. The commies over in Woodstock are on high alert, but then, they are always on high alert.

The only place I notice the battle is in the online dating site. About a 1/3 of the women say to go to hell if you voted for Trump.

Not surprised. Nice of them to save you the time and money you’d otherwise waste on the brainwashed, ill-informed bitches.

Many of them will end up alone, or at least childless, bitter, and unfulfilled. They’ll be prattling with their other 40- and 50-something barren girlfriends at a wine bar about the latest non-white or female “progressive” candidate they are worshipping, and griping about how hard it is to find a good man.

Find one of the other 2/3, be honest about who you are and what you believe (yes, diplomatically and gradually presented if possible), spend the time really getting to know them beyond the everything-is-roses stage.

And when you find the right one, don’t waste time before having a lot of children. Sacrifice any luxuries or vices you must to pay for a good-sized traditional family. My kids are going to need all the sensible people standing with them that they can get. Good luck to you!

From the other side, past the endless dating online and offline, man it was well worth all the bad dates and correspondence to find my wife. And she’s the kind of lady who would advise our son not to waste thirty seconds on a chick who presumes to warn off those deplorable Trump voters.

President Eisenhower hit the nail on the head when he warned us of the increasing power of MIC, the military industrial complex. As a five star general and president he was in the position to know how far the war makers had gone with their “Cold War” and their so called wars to save the world for democracy. Too bad Ike did not have his wake up call sooner but then he would have wound up with a bullet in his head. Too bad that the poor and uneducated still make up the bulk of the cannon fodder while the privileged and Ivy educated rake in the bucks from the permanent war economy.

During Eisenhower’s term of office, military expenditure was at it’s post-war peak, amounting to 11% of gross domestic product in FY 1956. It’s currently about 4% of gross domestic product.

  • A system under stress reacts in a direction to relieve the stress.

As long as the world is overpopulated it will continue to slide towards “overweening state power”.

To maintain the population men have instituted such simplified, less robust systems as central banking, corporate supply and distribution systems, and an ever growing police state.

The stress on the system is starting to show in the strains that abound. It can, and will, get much, much worse before it breaks down.

Not the only one, but a bright claim!

Making me laugh in six words.

At a chain ramen shop (the best of those for flavour), I was complaining about the music between the adverts last year, actually posting the customer-feedback form back, complaining about it. I hate the styles enough, am recognising little, but you will know the style: a black guy stating his insincere commitment, some high yellah woman coo-ing and ah-ing along.

The latter, solo at times, thx to the miracle of Autotune, they are all sounding much the same.

I have learnt to identify the utter crap of ‘John Legend’, (played at least twice on current rotation), his insincerity is incredible, am having no love of Islam or the IS, but thinking, have never watched a beheading video before, but would finding it hard to resist watching if it were him, or the moaners in the background right now.

Not that I am hating all US black music, just the last twenty or so years.

Try opportunistic kakistocrats as the real winners among the empty slogans and sloganeering. Scratch-and-claw functionaries working their way up the bureaucratic food chain. Academic gamesmen. Businessmen working D. C. for the latest tax preference, direct subsidy, no-bid contract, bailout. Churchmen doing the undue immigration boogie-woogie, citing Scripture but keeping their eyeballs on empty pews and empty collection plates. Me-too, pack journalism that quietly serves its corporate masters while giving the impression of disinterested reporting.

People who’ll happily doff their caps to whatever party or ideology is fashionable as long as they have their power, their salaries and pensions, their career-boosting influence. Viz., many Germans after 1945 who quickly learned to parrot the Western or Soviet party lines. Ditto, Russians talking democracy and capitalism after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Places where ‘state power’ is minimal – e.g., Somalia, Afghanistan – are hardly paradise

The real problem is oligarchism, which takes many, many forms, including the ‘libertarian’ one

Anti-oligarchism is not popular for sponsorship, because nearly every government, every elite, every ‘system’, is an oligarchy

Let's put it this way: In my home in socialist Europe, I get two choices for the amount of water I can flush down the toilet (a little for #1 and a lot for #2), and I can shower with whatever water pressure I choose. In my home in the Land of the Free®, I get government mandated low-flow toilets and shower-heads. The only consolation you might have is that the EC is doubling down on regulation to save the planet, so eventually the EU will be as free as the US.

I have learnt to identify the utter crap of 'John Legend', (played at least twice on current rotation), his insincerity is incredible, am having no love of Islam or the IS, but thinking, have never watched a beheading video before, but would finding it hard to resist watching if it were him, or the moaners in the background right now.

Not that I am hating all US black music, just the last twenty or so years.

Yes, and pacifist sentiments and antiwar activities in the United States go back even further to at least the so-called American Civil War, and we really should not be surprised; after all, what sane person wants war?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opposition_to_the_American_Civil_War

After WWI, Gen. Butler's book War is a Racket and his nationwide speaking tours helped educate the public about war profiteers, and the strong-arm tactics of big business, which led to formation of the Nye Committee:

The so-called “Senate Munitions Committee” came into being because of widespread reports that manufacturers of armaments had unduly influenced the American decision to enter the war in 1917. These weapons’ suppliers had reaped enormous profits at the cost of more than 53,000 American battle deaths. As local conflicts reignited in Europe through the early 1930s, suggesting the possibility of a second world war, concern spread that these “merchants of death” would again drag the United States into a struggle that was none of its business. The time had come for a full congressional inquiry.
    [...]
The investigation came to an abrupt end early in 1936. The Senate cut off committee funding after Chairman Nye blundered into an attack on the late Democratic President Woodrow Wilson. Nye suggested that Wilson had withheld essential information from Congress as it considered a declaration of war. Democratic leaders, including Appropriations Committee Chairman Carter Glass of Virginia, unleashed a furious response against Nye for “dirtdaubing the sepulcher of Woodrow Wilson.” Standing before cheering colleagues in a packed Senate Chamber, Glass slammed his fist onto his desk until blood dripped from his knuckles.

    https://www.senate.gov/artandhistory/history/minute/merchants_of_death.htm

In his speech to Congress on April 2, 1917, President Wilson had claimed that the SS Sussex had been sunk by the Germans. Four days later, the United States declared war on Germany. It wasn't until later, when U.S. troops were fighting in Europe, that some of the truth about the Sussex emerged. The ship had not been sunk, but had wallowed into port after being torpedoed.

Far from blundering in his attack on Wilson, Rep. Gerald Nye was right on the money, but he learned what Sen. Joe McCarthy was to learn two decades later:

The truth alone may not suffice.

    I wrote:

In his speech to Congress on April 2, 1917, President Wilson had claimed that the SS Sussex had been sunk by the Germans.

That is incorrect. I have checked this speech
Address to a Joint Session of Congress Requesting a Declaration of War Against Germany,
and there is no mention of the Sussex in it.

Wilson merely mentions submarines eight times, including:

Because submarines are in effect outlaws when used as the German submarines have been used against merchant shipping,

    http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=65366

Wilson did cite the Sussex in his Address to a Joint Session of Congress on German Violations of International Law, April 19, 1916:

One of the latest and most shocking instances of this method of warfare was that of the destruction of the French cross-Channel steamer Sussex . It must stand forth, as the sinking of the steamer Lusitania did, as so singularly tragical and unjustifiable as to constitute a truly terrible example of the inhumanity of submarine warfare as the commanders of German vessels have for the past twelvemonth been conducting it.

    http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=65390

And of course we know that the Sussex, though damaged, did not sink, and wallowed to port, where it was photographed.

‘Just to set the record straight. Thanks.

If you are the genuine subject of a monarch (Obama isn't) it is a mark of respect to bow (or curtsy) to that monarch. It's not degrading at all. And a monarch kneels before a priest as God's representative. Context matters.

In Japan, only people of low rank bow deeply to another. Even though he’s not Japanese Obama bowed to the Japanese fellow, I forget who, like a gardener bows to his employer. Among equals the bow is much more restrained. Obama wanted to abase himself and heap shame on his own country by acting like a servant.

During her coronation ceremony Queen Elizabeth II removed all of her royal regalia, knelt and took communion. (Elizabeth is slightly unusual as a monarch in that she is also Head of the Church of England and Defender of the Faith). When I visited Hagia Sophia there was a spot where the Byzantine Emperor prostrated himself before entering the church. I expect that Roman Catholic monarchs often kneel before priests when they receive communion, although being neither Roman Catholic nor the subject of a monarch, I'm not inclined to research the matter. And a Hapsburg is admitted by the monk to the crypt for burial as a poor sinner--nothing else.

A subject of a monarch who bows or curtseys before that monarch in no way degrades him- or herself. Hierarachy is part of of the natural order of humanity; the French and Russian Revolutions tried to eliminate it and look how they turned out.

What utter bollocks. Liz III removed nothing during her coronation ceremony. Princess Elizabeth did.

He apparently missed a few Trump rallies, which were something south of polite. The January 21st rallies brought out millions for day-long protests that were as peaceful and orderly as they were well-attended.

He is mistaken if he think the divide is the country is between the well-mannered and the ill-bred from the ghetto. The divide is between those who embrace diversity and believe society has a responsibility to its disadvantaged & those who prefer homogeneity and what they would likely call “self-reliance.” The former is clean, bright and peaceful. The latter makes up considerably less than half the population and often resorts to characterizations intended to provoke hate.

Lets see if the US "progressives" will be able to "find Waldo" on this pic:
    http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2017/01/27/chrystia-freeland-family-record-nazi-war-murder-cracow-jews.html

"Chrystia Freeland, appointed last week to be the new Canadian Foreign Minister, claims that her maternal family were the Ukrainian victims of Russian persecution..
The records now being opened by the Polish government in Warsaw reveal that Freeland’s maternal grandfather Michael (Mikhailo) Chomiak was a Nazi collaborator from the beginning to the end of the war. He was given a powerful post, money, home and car by the German Army in Cracow, then the capital of the German administration of the Galician region. His principal job was editor in chief and publisher of a newspaper the Nazis created. His printing plant and other assets had been stolen from a Jewish newspaper publisher, who was then sent to die in the Belzec concentration camp. During the German Army’s winning phase of the war, Chomiak celebrated in print the Wehrmacht’s “success” at killing thousands of US Army troops. As the German Army was forced into retreat by the Soviet counter-offensive, Chomiak was taken by the Germans to Vienna, where he continued to publish his Nazi propaganda, at the same time informing for the Germans on other Ukrainians. They included fellow Galician Stepan Bandera, whose racism against Russians Freeland has celebrated in print, and whom the current regime in Kiev has turned into a national hero."
The progeny with the war criminal has a wonderful time with Groysman (Ukraine's Jewish PM) and Poroschenko (Ukraine's President). Birds of feather...

It's the Progressives who have trouble with Russian Orthodoxy, with their own LGBTQ pagan opposition, not evangelical Christians. Evangelical opposition in the past was to Soviet atheism, now long abolished. I speak as an evangelical who counted it a miracle for Russians to renounce that tyranny, although certainly not anticipating nor applauding the subsequent predatory and opportunistic Wall Street carpetbagger invasion that reduced the lives of ordinary Russians to penury. But then, evangelicals aren't those in power in the West, even though their support is sought with vague bromides that never come to pass. A lot voted for Trump, and aside from the economic distress which is very real for so many, Trump's message of not being hostile to non-communist Russia with its patina of state Christianity also resonated.

I think you are omitting the slavish (and stupid) obedience the Bible-thumpers have towards Israel. Traditional Jewish hostility towards Russia plays a big role in all this, and being basically lapdogs, the southern evangelicals are right on board with this. (Fanatical pro-Zionism being about the only acceptable public outlet all cuckservatives have these days.)

As usual, Mr. Giraldi has written an excellent article. He has left out the core reason for the insane anti-Russia crusade, however. Russia under Putin, a Russia trying to rebuild its historic Christian roots, is a standing affront to certain people (whether Putin is sincere or this is a cynical ploy by him to revive an authentic Russian nationalism is irrelevant). This turn towards the Russian past enrages a certain part of the Jewish community and, in particular, the spiritual and often literal descendants of the followers of Leon Trotsky. These are the people who brought us the Bolshevik Revolution. Stalin ran Trotsky out of Russia and then, slowly and incompletely, began to remove his followers from power as well. By the time the Soviet Union collapsed a tremendous tsunami of hatred towards Jews had built up in Russia - ordinary Russians understand perfectly well who staffed the Cheka and tried to wipe out their national existence. To be sure many Jews were entirely innocent of participation in Communist crimes and had not benefited over much from them, but that hardly matters in a charged situation such as the fall of an empire. Jews the world over (and especially in the U.S.) are hypersensitive to potential "threats" and they sure saw one in the new Russia. The Kristols in America have used pathetic dupes like McCain and Graham skillfully. They have also used the proverbial ignorance of Americans about world history to convince them that Russia today is the old USSR. It isn't and, in fact, we have no legitimate fight with Russia over anything. Ukraine's artificial borders hardly concern us and it is obvious that we were responsible for starting the Syrian "civil war", with Israel pulling the strings in Washington. These anti-Russian morons should just shut up.

As bad as Stalin was, Trotsky would have been even worse, and (even if only instinctively) ordinary Russians understand this. Hence the not-inaccurate perception that Stalin saved Russian culture, if not civilization.
