Amid the distractions of the holiday season, the New York Times revealed that the Obama administration is considering a Pentagon proposal to create a “new” and “enduring” system of military bases around the Middle East. Though this is being presented as a response to the rise of the Islamic State and other militant groups, there's...

If Muslims can build mosques in the west, then the USA can build bases in the Middle East. Freedom of religion is a two-way street.

Was that supposed to be a quote from Holy Talmud?

Thanks for telling us that synagogues, churches, mosques, gurdawara, temples, etc. are all military bases of different religions to wage wars against LGBT communities.

the Jewish leaders in the US, Canada and some European countries are urging their fellow Jews and Zionist Christians to defend the rights of gay and lesbian communities in Russia, Uganda, Nigeria and other Christian- majority African nations.

“Today one of the most important ways to combat the oppression of others is to work against the terrible wave of homophobia that is oppressing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in several African countries,” Barney Frank, former Jewish gay congressman from Massachusetts, posted at AJWS website on March 14, 2014.

“At Purim, we remember the story of a small group of people rising up to defend themselves after being demonized, abused and threatened with annihilation by Haman, the evil Persian minister,” adds Frank.

    It’s what they do.
    In education, housing, affirmative action….
NEVER admit a mistake, just throw more $$$ at it.

  • With one hand the US creates, aids, and abets Al Qaeda and spreads it across the MENA, the Balkans, and into the heart of the EU.

With its other hand it use the threat of terrorism as a hammer to beat the US people into compliance with continual and increasing militarism and surveillance both domestic and foreign.

The US has engineered another split in the world (like the Cold War) with the US and its Anglosphere and EU vassals on one side, and with the coalescing and multifarious East on the other side.

In Syria the East has drawn a line saying to the West ‘No More’. The days of the East bending its knee to the West are over.

Unless the US retreats from its policy of hegemony over the world, unless it retreats from its insufferable ‘exceptional and indispensable’ lunatic attitudes like another people that thought they were ‘uber alles’, the world is headed into another great catastrophe.

There is only one sign that the US is retreating from Empire and restoring its Republic, and that is cutting the US military budget by over 50%. Unless that happens were are heading directly at catastrophe. Until the American people realize the immense importance of cutting the US military budget to save the planet and humanity I have zero hope for our future.

    God help us.

  • The Jew York Times never misses an opportunity to tell Americans that “whatever is good for Israel, is good for United States”.

A few months ago, Russian president Vladimir Putin had claimed that American airstrike never hit ISIS targets. They’re there to protect ISIS against Syrian army supported by Hizbullah, Iran and recently joined by Russian air support.

Pentagon’s “strategy” to help Israel army to destroy Hizbullah military power in 2006 failed miserably. But, America has history of not learning from its past mistakes. United states already has plenty of military bases in the Middle East (Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Afghanistan, etc.) and even inside Israel – to protect Israel from the non-existent military threat to region’s only nuclear power (Israel) from Iran.

  • @The Alarmist
We had terrorists in the '80's, but we didn't realize what a fabulous growth industry it would become because, like IBM in the '60's, the big money was in the big hardware in the big war against global domination by the forces of 'evil'. So we quietly parked WRSK caches around the globe and occasionally sent the operators out to take out the terrorists whenever they popped up, and the world kind of worked well well into the '90's. Then someone realised the peace dividend flowed in the wrong direction, so the never-ending GWOT was launched because the industry realized that quiet, effective wars are too low margin to run on anything but a mass scale. Operators like to work in the shadows because they like a fighting chance to come home, and they like being part of an elite group even more ... ironically enough, the current growth represents a debasing of the value of the currency of being an operator.

We had terrorists in the 80s, but we needed them to kill Russians. We didn’t need them as an official adversary, because we already had one during the Cold War.

  • First, they tried to shoot the dogs. Next, they tried to poison them with strychnine. When both failed as efficient killing methods, British government agents and U.S. Navy personnel used raw meat to lure the pets into a sealed shed. Locking them inside, they gassed the howling animals with exhaust piped in from U.S. military...
  • @Enrique Cardova
Thanks for shedding light on this. Who knew?

The great Australian British journo John Pilger has pursued justice for the Chagos Islanders for over 2 decades now. However, these wretched victims of our filthy empire will never receive justice and will be extinct in a generation or so. More than ever I pray that the sins of those who did this will find them out big time.

So we quietly parked WRSK caches around the globe and occasionally sent the operators out to take out the terrorists whenever they popped up, and the world kind of worked well well into the ’90′s. Then someone realised the peace dividend flowed in the wrong direction, so the never-ending GWOT was launched because the industry realized that quiet, effective wars are too low margin to run on anything but a mass scale. Operators like to work in the shadows because they like a fighting chance to come home, and they like being part of an elite group even more … ironically enough, the current growth represents a debasing of the value of the currency of being an operator.

We had terrorists in the 80s, but we needed them to kill Russians. We didn't need them as an official adversary, because we already had one during the Cold War.

When both failed as efficient killing methods, British government agents and U.S. Navy personnel used raw meat to lure the pets into a sealed shed. Locking them inside, they gassed the howling animals with exhaust piped in from U.S. military...

The great Australian British journo John Pilger has pursued justice for the Chagos Islanders for over 2 decades now. However, these wretched victims of our filthy empire will never receive justice and will be extinct in a generation or so. More than ever I pray that the sins of those who did this will find them out big time.

  • With the launch of a new U.S.-led war in Iraq and Syria against the Islamic State (IS), the United States has engaged in aggressive military action in at least 13 countries in the Greater Middle East since 1980. In that time, every American president has invaded, occupied, bombed, or gone to war in at least...

This is quite accurate. One guy who was my manager for a short time was an air force technician at a “hot base” outside Cairo. Essentially, he spent his 2 years hidden under the sand, with short breaks allowed to keep the guys there from going stir crazy, maintaining “hot spare” air force electronic equipment in the event of any eventuality. So I guess this is one of the “preposition” bases mentioned from the 1982 accord.

    singular: base……….plural: bases

    Alternatively

    singular: basis………plural: bases

Therefore, the term, bases, in the title, may be interpreted as several “places” or as several “reasons.” In which instance, my previous rephrasing of the title could be viewed as redundant.

Could the title have been “The Basis of War in the Middle East?”
    .
To claim that America serves Israel’s interest is highly inaccurate; America is merely one of the tools of Israel.
A tool is useless until it is employed to accomplish a task; America’s existence is to serve Israel.

In fact the USA gets very little of its oil from the middle east or the Persian Gulf. It is a canard that these areas are vital interests to the USA.

The Kosher Liberals say that the wars on the Middle-East are for oil, but more people are finally figuring out the Truth: they’re for Zionist Supremacy.

  • Mr. Vine overstates the ‘war for oil’ theory behind US militarism in the Middle East. This is a cover for the more fundamental and persistent US policy of (1) Arab/Persian destabilization coupled with (2) Israeli empowerment.

Before the first Gulf War (1991) that sought to expel Iraq from Kuwait, the late Iraqi leader, Saddam Hussein, complained bitterly about what he considered unnecessary US interference between two small states that were fighting over oil exports and their revenue. When GHW Bush played the oil card, Saddam proclaimed: “What do you you expect me to do with [the oil], drink it?”

Indeed, virtually all these Arab States are one-horse economies. This includes Iraq, Kuwait, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAR and many others. Their economies all rely on the sale of oil to the West more today than we need their oil. Oil exports are more their economic lifeblood today than it is ours. We are now nearly self-sufficient in energy. But US militarism continues. Why? Virtually all of these nations remain deeply hostile to Israel.

Consider: it was the second war on Saddam’s Iraq (2003) that pushed the price of oil form $25/bbl to over $100/bbl. This price-hike harmed US interests. Both Iraq wars were a replay of the infamous intervention that produced the first Arab oil Embargo of 1973 which saw oil prices quadruple after the unnecessary US intervention (supporting Israel) that year in the Yom Kippur War. This is a familiar pattern. Israeli interests always trump oil interests in Official Washington.

Indeed, global oil prices as well as US access to MidEast oil have been undermined–not aided–by unconditional pro-Zionist policies that emanate from Washington in every US administration since LBJ. Today, Iranian oil is being held off the world market because Iran is deemed a threat to Israeli security. Israel always comes first.

The ‘No Blood for Oil’ claim was a left wing fantasy in 2003 and it still is. Incredibly, the relatively small amount of oil now coming out of Iraq is being handled by the Chinese and Russians! Washington invaded Iraq for what? To waste two trillion dollars, kill as many as one million Iraqis and not get any kind of deal on oil? Apparently. But this unacknowledged objective was realized: Israel’s greatest threat was annihilated. Syria is next and after that, Iran.

The Israel factor cannot be underestimated when considering all US policies in the Middle East. To do otherwise, ignores political reality.

  • I think the basing strategy is bad for the world and probably bad for the USA. I don’t think it ‘props up autocratic regimes’ though – US policy is Chaotic and may arbitrarily overthrow an autocratic regime, even a pro-Western one like Mubarak in Egypt. Any regime in the Middle East is going to be authoritarian, anyway.

Looking at it from an external perspective – you can often get away with a lot if you’re willing to host US bases. whereas not hosting US bases may mean you get bombed. Better to be Pakistan or Bahrain than Serbia or Syria. As long as the US remains the main threat to peace & stability, it looks as if the best way to mitigate is to let them have their bases on your soil.

  • Ivy [AKA "Enquiring Mind"] says:

The ME malinvestment (even if a fraction of the $10T) financed by the U.S. taxpayers and worldwide debt buyers served to benefit disproportionately two main parties: MIC/Seven Sisters and oil-importing economies such as Japan.

Combine that with strong manufactured resistance to lower dependence on oil imports and you have essentially treasonous behavior by those parties and their coterie of lobbyists and assorted bagmen.

What could’ve been a more resilient US with more resources available to invest on productive capex and human capital instead was squandered. Consider that mostly pissed away into ME sands. Even the formidable US economy with its reserve currency role gets stressed, and the citizenry pays the price.
