To Bill Gates' credit, he periodically announces that some education reform fad boondoggle he has credulously financed has failed empirically. For example, in the 2000s he dropped a huge amount of money on "small learning communities," but then in 2009 came the news: And now, from Education Week: So good for Bill for hiring RAND...
  • It’s his money, he can waste spend it on whatever he wants — NCLB wastes billions of taxpayer dollars every year, and sometimes makes criminals out of teachers and school administrators.

  • In the rush of Trumped-up events, history -- of the last month, week, hour -- repeatedly gets plowed (or tweeted) under. Who can remember what happened so long ago? Perhaps it’s not surprising then that, in the wave of abuse from the president and his men (including economic adviser Larry Kudlow and trade hardliner Peter...

While Austin is among the country’s first so-called freedom cities, it’s part of a wider movement around decriminalizing low-level offenses and decreasing arrests. According to Local Progress, a national network of progressive city...

So the left did nothing positive for itself other than a short-appeasement of insatiable SJWs, and made enemies of nobodies like the former chief surgeon at a Harvard teaching hospital. This is how Mass and Maryland elected Republican governors and why the GOP share of the white vote goes up every election.

why the GOP share of the white vote goes up every election

For how much longer will that matter?

A looong time. Whites still run California with like 30% of the population. And really it is just the 10% or so that are bay area whites running the whole state. And in Mexico the 10% white population still basically runs the country, and has done so for 200 years.

Brimelow/vdare.com has been battling this kind of crass censorship for a long time.

    Ha, ha, ha…

What's funny about it? -- did you find it funny when that guy bashed people in the head with a heavy metal bicycle lock? -- when people trying to attend Trump events in 2016 were attacked and beaten? -- when violent leftists disrupt simple speaking events? -- it's all related.

Coloring the News by William McGowan was published in 2001 -- at that point, the media practice of pumping diversity on the one hand, while at the same time overtly lying about its consequences by omitting racial/ethnic info from crime stories, including descriptions of wanted violent criminals, was well established -- even then it had been going for years and years -- this kind of thing is the next chapter.

So I could understand finding it droll if it was some kind of oddity -- but it's not -- it's part of a long-standing pattern.

Since when has America cared about what its policies do to foreign children?

After the end of the first Iraq War, America imposed sanctions on Iraq. The sanctions deprived Iraqi children of medicine they needed. 576,000 Iraqi children died. Nobody cared. Here's what Secretary of State Madeline Albright said. Republicans and Democrats were okay with that.

The current Iraq War has created between 1 million and 3.5 million orphans.

“A lot of the kids in this area wake up from sleeping because of nightmares from them and some now have mental problems. They turned our area into hell and continuous horror, day and night, we even dream of them in our sleep.”

This statement below seems completely true.

“In their eyes, we don’t deserve to live like people in the rest of the world and we don’t have feelings or emotions or cry or feel pain like all the other humans around the world.”

    This tweet is also true.

For some reason, the above are never discussed by the American political/media elites. So when our political/media elites go on about how their hearts bleed for these children caught at the border, it's just so disingenuous.

    the American political/media elites

Maybe that’s because they’re not all that “American”? — not really — they certainly don’t have the best interests of America and Americans at heart — both the author of this piece and the main protagonist (Jacobson) are Jews — not to mention the ‘hate fact’ that media elites are disproportionately Jews — sooner or later, anyone interested in the ‘national question’ has to confront the ‘Jewish question’.

And these ‘elites’ won’t be living next to or sending their children to school with illiterate mestizos.

What’s funny about it? — did you find it funny when that guy bashed people in the head with a heavy metal bicycle lock? — when people trying to attend Trump events in 2016 were attacked and beaten? — when violent leftists disrupt simple speaking events? — it’s all related.

Coloring the News by William McGowan was published in 2001 — at that point, the media practice of pumping diversity on the one hand, while at the same time overtly lying about its consequences by omitting racial/ethnic info from crime stories, including descriptions of wanted violent criminals, was well established — even then it had been going for years and years — this kind of thing is the next chapter.

So I could understand finding it droll if it was some kind of oddity — but it’s not — it’s part of a long-standing pattern.

I agree. I think a week without men doing all the physically and mentally demanding and dangerous things that men do would be a good response to all the hate the patriarchy lesbians and their political sisters. Start with “step away from the power” and literally have men take a collective vacation and ignore the electric utility grid for a week. Let the gender studies professors keep the generators running and perform "hot wire" maintenance on the 500 kVA transmission lines that carry the electricity all those feminist social media influencers and complainers rely on to "power" their daily lives.

very little evidence for the smart fraction theory.

IMHO the hard part is disentangling it from average IQ since the two tend to be so highly correlated. Heiner Rindermann and James Thompson have done some work in this area See Rindermann's recent book or this post from Thompson a few years ago: https://www.unz.com/jthompson/is-smart-fraction-as-valuable-as/

the hard part is disentangling it from average IQ

You can’t ‘disentangle’ it — average IQ in a population follows a normal distribution — the ‘smart fraction’ is that portion of a population with an IQ above some absolute value, say 115 — these are the people who mostly drive technical innovation and value added wealth creation — so if you have a higher average IQ, ie the normal curve is shifted to the right, you have a larger wealth-creating ‘smart fraction’ — what is so difficult about that?

This is true, so smart fraction theory is more of a different way of looking at the same phenomenon. Mean IQ focuses on the middle. SFT focuses on the part of the range that you think is most important. There are different versions of SFT. One focuses on the far right end, the really smart people. The Le Griffe version considers the smart worker ants in a society as the key to its success.

You can have countries with smart people at the top that fail due to organizations that are corrupt, inefficient, and incompetent because of their cognitively lacking human capital. You need people with something on the ball, and they need to reach a certain threshhold in the organization to crowd out the idiots or keep them in check.

In low mean IQ countries the smartest people eventually go to grad school in the U.S. and then somehow end up with green cards. Africa is an example of a place with many such countries.

Subpopulations mean this is not necessarily true in the tails (especially the far tails). For example, consider the Chinese working in Africa in recent years.

For a concrete example, compare South Africa to Yemen in Table 1 here: http://www.unz.com/isteve/rindermans-smart-fraction-paper/

Noteworthy is this juxtaposition (meaning these passages appeared in the same article):

The radio broadcast featured wealthy white parents in a St. Louis suburb distressed by the prospect of black students from a neighboring town enrolling in their public schools. The black children’s district had recently lost its accreditation due to poor academic performance…Many of the white parents’ fears were prejudice, plain and simple.

Exactly! And it’s why I’ve been referring to myself for decades as a “refugee from Detroit.”

In white (nominally & formerly) nations, the only oppression is of the native population. “White flight” is absolutely no different from anyone fleeing a war ravaged hell of constant assault, robbery, rape, and murder.

Materially, there is no question that they benefit immensely from living with white people. Yet it’s not obvious to me that living with whites is, on the whole, welfare enhancing as it apparently causes them considerable psychological success. To be sure, some of the distress is just a hustle, a way of guilt-tripping whites into giving them more stuff, but some of it is genuine. (Think Michelle Obama’s tremendous insecurity that Steve has extensively documented). I think it’s a flaw of human nature that makes it hard to forgo material benefit, even when you’re fundamentally less happy in some cases. It’s kind of like how it’s hard to walk away from a high-paying job even if you hate it. Living with whites is like that miserable high paying job (except for the working part).

The EU's leaders could start by loving Europe, and Europeans, the way it wants Europeans to love the EU. It could start by treating its citizens like citizens, not subjects. It could start be recognizing that the job of a democratic leader is to listen to the will of the people, not tell the people that its will is wrong. It could start by not using the navies of EU countries to assist an invasion of Europe instead of defending against it. The EU leaders have absolutely no intention of ever doing any of those things, so this campaign is going nowhere fast.

It's rather odd (and revealing) that EU leaders are entirely willing to overturn precedent and law when it comes to assisting in the invasion of Europe by outsiders but cling furiously to tradition and law when the people of Europe want that shit to stop.

Yesterday in Belgium, a guy stabbed 2 policewomen and shot them with their guns. He then shot a 22 year-old man sitting in his car.

Please don't mix up this story with the guy who stabbed a policewoman yesterday in Germany or the one who killed a police dog with an axe yesterday in the Netherlands.

BBC News display the images of a woman filming the killer in Belgium; you can clearly hear her shouting " abattez-le !" (kill him !).

For some reason, it then goes silent; here is the original movie.

Will you find the missing clue which might lead you to the common link shared by these three men ?

    Read pensiontsunami.com

Thanks — I’m familiar w/ the site and the general problem — I’ve commented here before about it — perhaps IL, and Chicago in particular, are the best — or worst, depending on how you want to look at it — examples — especially education pensions in IL.

    link

As Forbes’ Adam Andrzejewski reports, there are currently 7,499 teacher retirees that earn at least six figure pensions, and he estimates that in just six years, the number will be three times what it is today because, as we noted previously, the Illinois Supreme Court recently confirmed that pension benefits are constitutionally guaranteed and “the public employee gravy train is running faster than ever.”

Now, there would be nothing wrong with these retirees collecting the “annuity” benefits after paying to the retirement plan for years as most other honest, hard-working employee do. There is just one problem: this was a human system, and like every human system (especially in Illinois) it was impeccably gamed from the beginning. Especially when Chicago is involved as it is here.

Take the example of two union lobbyists who substitute taught for one-day in the public schools and then started collecting over $1 million of lifetime public ‘teacher’ pension payout – despite a state law expressly designed to stop them.

And now take all the other 7,499 educators. The retirees in question paid so little into their own retirement (breaking even on their cost basis within the first 20 months of retirement)

CalPERS assumes that, in the long-term, it will earn investment returns averaging 7.5% a year. If the fund fails to meet that goal, the state’s taxpayers could be forced to make up any shortfall in pension funding.

The state probably needs to pay more to attract better pension executives than these folks.

Most public pensions still assume 6%+ returns and many are so far underwater that they will never catch up even with that fantasy rate. Read pensiontsunami.com if you want to get good and depressed about what is coming to your town, county, and state.

There's basically zero chance that they'll earn 7.5% nominal. That's in the ballpark of 5.5% real.

Let's see, U.S. stocks are at a CAPE of ~30, so ballpark 3.3% annual real. The 10-Year Treasury is at ~3% nominal, so figure 1.0% real - probably a bit less due to rising rates but we'll leave it at that. Given the difficulty of outperforming the indexes at that size, a 60-40 portfolio would earn ~2.4% real and 4.4% nominal.

Where are they going to get that extra three percentage points?

Don't say Private Equity. PE is shot. Dan Rasmussen laid out the problems with PE nicely in this article, but I've seen similar analysis from others. In the 80s and 90s, PE was able to buy crazy cheap microcap stocks, but those deals are much harder to find now. Plus PE has too much money to go that small anymore.

The residents of California better get ready to pay.
