We see numerous Criminal Masterminds in movies and TV shows but fewer in real life. In Baltimore, however, a genuine Genius is being charged with first-degree murder. From the Daily Mail: By the way, do you get the feeling that maybe Matthews' grandmother is taking the fall for the 16 year old male? The three...

WTOP has arguments from the lawyer for one of the defendents:

Gordon pointed out that Caprio was called not for a report of a burglary, but of a suspicious vehicle. The fact that Harris was sitting in a stolen vehicle, and that the three other teens were supposedly committing a burglary, was all known to police “after the fact,” he said, and that at the moment Caprio blocked the Wrangler in, the situation “amounted to a traffic stop.”

    [. . .]

The lawyer cited a witness who said they heard Caprio quickly order Harris out of the vehicle, then shoot: “’Get out of the car get out of the car get out of the car’ and then pop.”

“We want to know why Officer Caprio found it necessary to draw her weapon on a 16-year-old child,” Gordon said. He characterized Harris’ actions as those of someone who was simply trying to get away from being shot at.

Now, it's a defense lawyer's job to make dubious arguments like that, and I don't hold it against him. It may even be true that the death was not completely deliberate and something short of murder. Still, it is almost funny how the lawyer tapped into the framing of the day that this was another case of neighbors calling the police just because a black person looks suspicious. OK, the car the black person was sitting in was stolen, and he was a lookout for a robbery in progress, but none of the white people involved knew that. They were just picking on a child because he was black.

“We want to know why Officer Caprio found it necessary to draw her weapon on a 16-year-old child,

Because she was a girl and a girl cop has no other way of asserting authority other than to draw a gun. And because a 16-year-old boy is a whole lot stronger than an adult woman. That’s why girls should not be cops.

Newspapers love to portray "felony murder rule" cases as some sort of awful miscarriage of justice. Riles up the bleeding hearts. (Surprised to see the Daily Mail taking that angle, though.)

I for one think it's a very good legal tradition, worth preserving.

The problem in this case is that the idiot prosecutor has admitted that the felony murder rule doesn’t apply even while he tries to apply it.

He didn’t charge Genius with burglary, so the murder wasn’t committed in the course of a burglary.

After writing my previous comment, I logged onto the news site I mentioned--its MSN.com, BTW--and found another illustration of the tactic I described. This one is arguably even more insidious.

Here's the link to the MSN story, so you can judge for yourselves:
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/french-couple-convicted-of-murdering-nanny-in-london-and-burning-her-body/ar-AAxK013?ocid=spartandhp

But to elaborate: The headline reads: "French couple convicted of murdering nanny in London and burning her body." The accompanying photo is of a very Middle-Eastern-looking young woman, somewhat disshevelled.

The implication from the association of words and picture on the homepage is: Here is the nanny who was killed by an evil French (i.e. White) couple.

This impresion seems to be borne out in the first paragraph of the linked story:
"A French couple were found guilty on Thursday of murdering their nanny and burning her body in their back garden in London after what police said was months of mistreatment, threats and physical abuse that left her a virtual prisoner."

Terrible, right? That's just what white people do.

But now read the second paragraph:
"Sabrina Kouider, 35, and Ouissem Medouni, 40, were described at the Old Bailey court as having spun a web of lies to justify the torture and murder last year of their nanny..."

So the woman in the homepage picture is NOT the murdered nanny, as we were led to believe, but the convicted murderess. And she's only "French" in the legal sense: no report I read asserted that the couple are Muslims, but the origins of both killers are obvious (the murderess is more glamorous in photos than the mug shot suggests).

Oh, and what about the enthnicity of the tortured, dead nanny? She's identified as "...Sophie Lionnet, 21, from Troyes in eastern France."

Here's the victim's picture (from another source); could be mistaken for a Maid of Orleans:
    https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/couple-guilty-of-murdering-french-nanny-over-bizarre-boyzone-obsession/ar-AAxJowY

I guess we should be grateful that the news story gives all the names in the second paragraph, instead of leaving those details to the unread ending, in the mode of the New York Times. Our press has not yet become so boldly cynical as to fabricate news items wholesale. But they do make strenuous efforts, as seen here and elsewhere, to give the most perniciously misleading impressions to the benighted (or merely busy).

You would have made your argument stronger by mentioning that the nanny was killed by a couple, and the picture is of one person. Everyone is going to anticipate that a picture of a woman alone is a picture of the victim. That has to be deliberate racial defamation.

  • Saw this story yesterday on the Microsoft news homepage and had a feeling it would be picked up by Steve.

What I saw on that site was a textbook example of how the media distort perception of the news by juxtaposing unrelated words and pictures. The headline read something like: “Another teen charged in death of police officer.” The accompanying picture was of a very young-looking white woman, smiling for the camera in what could be a school setting, with the photo cropped to eliminate all but her head.

Now the woman in the photo was, in fact, the slain officer (the full picture shows she’s wearing a uniform, but all traces of it were cropped out of the homepage image).

But to the person scrolling through headlines, what they would perceive is “another teen charged in murder” and a picture of a white girl. The two together “read” as: this white person is the teen in a murder conspiracy. And promoting that misreading is clearly the editorial purpose here: to create an impression that whites are currently at large performing Bonnie and Clyde acts of violence, and to obscure the fact of chronic black violence and criminality.

Again, this editorial tactic is aimed at the casual headline scroller—i.e., most people—who looks at a busy internet news page to glean general impressions of what’s going on in the world. My iSteve training offers some immunity to it, helps me decode what the editors want me to perceive, flags unlikely word-image associations. But such training is still rare, alas.

You are absolutely right. Thanks for pointing it out.

The Black population of South Africa consists of immigrants and descendants of immigrants who moved there after the Whites started to build something. His ancestors who were alive during the slave trade would have lived in another part of the continent.

OT Pulitzer Prize winning rapper Kendrick Lamar (sample lyrics: "I hate you [white people]") brought a portly white woman on stage at a concert to help him rap a song called "MAAD City;" it turned out that she knew the lyrics and was able to help him rap MAAD City.
Of course, this is both terrible and completely unforeseeable, most of all to Mr Lamar, who had no reason to expect that a person he brings onstage to rap would be able to rap.

Cernovich, Alex Jones, Milo, and Stephan Molyneux are discussed in the article as scary loons that the harmless Dave Rubin types err in breaking bread with. Overall, as others have said, these are all center-left (Weinstein) to center-right (J Peterson) with a neo-con who claims to be an immigration hawk (Shapiro) thrown in. This guilt-by association is enough for Weiss to suggest that IDW figures are "cynical or stupid" to sit down with the likes of Jones. Y'know there's a part of me that halfway agrees with the principle that certain figures should indeed be declared out of bounds--not because they break taboos, but because their silliness factor (Alex Jones in particular) is too high. But then I realize that once you start with the "well, some purges are OK" thinking, people like Weiss will just keep purging while moving the line closer and closer to the center and away from the right.

Similarly, people with a talent for sports practice more, not less, and people with a talent for music practice their instruments more, not less. Being good at something makes a person want to do more of it, rather than just get by on raw talent. Also their parents tend on average to share some of the same genetic traits (whether academic success, athletic success, or musical success) and provide a home environment beneficial to the talent being realized. It is called genotype-phenotype interaction and it boosts the influence of genes on behavioral outcomes.

ben - I was not trying to make a comment about whether monotheism is more usefully understood as a concept in itself or as a mcguffin for discussions and justifications about it ....

What I was trying to say is more along these lines : while we do not know the exact dates of birth and death for the author of Isaiah, we do know, if we have read with understanding the book he wrote (and, if you need to do so to understand, if you 'have read the commentaries' - that was the unabbreviated part of my former comment, which I now expand on), we clearly understand, upon reflection about what we have just read, that the author of that book was (to give an example) about a standard deviation better than Shakespeare at any commonly accepted measurement of skill in describing the personalities of the characters in his book (in my opinion, of course). And that is pretty huge of an accomplishment, even if my opinion on this is something you vaguely disagree with.

I personally believe the main characters that Isaiah described are all real, but even if you don't share this view, you have to make some absurd arguments to say that a civilization that could have and did produce Isaiah (and Amos and David and Solomon) was not exceptional. Greg Cochran, I guess, would disagree with me on this, Freeman Dyson would agree. Well, your opinion is valuable too.

Many 23andMe testees of pure European descent, none of who’s ancestors ever left Europe get an exceedingly minor smidgen of ‘native American’ in their DNA breakdown.
Apparently, this is a relic of ancient ANE ancestry, linked to Steppe groups, the presumed ANE ‘ghost’ population also contributed to native American ethnogenesis.

Similarly, virtually every Mexican 23andMe customer gets a smidgen of Ashkenazi Jew – due, no doubt, to a big Sephardic converso contingent in the original Spanish conquistador population, and also smidgen of Sub Saharan African.

The causation arrow is more likely to point the other way, if slightly. East Asians study a lot, and because of that do somewhat better on tests that correlate with IQ than they otherwise would. I've had the opportunity to observe this up close. This is not to say that they go from IQ 80 to 105 purely due to studying, but they might go from 100 to 105 because of the massive effort (and, let's not forget, massive cheating).

Hence, we have the myth (cf. Yan Shen) of EA superiority, at least in mathy subjects. But the advantage is really in grinding. This is not to be dismissive of hard work, which is a key factor in achievement, perhaps even more than IQ, once you have a sufficient base level of IQ.

But if East Asians were really half of SD smarter in math than Europeans, , virtually all high achievement in math and physics would be East Asian (assuming similar standard deviation), especially because there are many more EA than Europeans. But it's virtually all European. Figure it out, EA, since you are so good at math.

Unlike height, where being ever taller had no benefit, strong evolutionary forces drove intelligence in one direction only in our ancient ancestors.

I can't believe this guy writes for a major publication. This is an unbelievably stupid statement.

The brain uses massive amounts of energy. Each neuron has to maintain an electrical disequilibrium by actively pumping sodium and potassium ions across the cell membrane. This takes huge amounts of energy. Your brain is the most metabolically demanding organ in your body, (along with your heart) even when it is not being used. When you are not using your muscles they don't use much energy. When you are asleep, not using your brain, it still uses a ton of energy.

So the balance is that a bigger brain requires you to eat a lot more. In a famine, all other things being equal, the smarties starve and the dummies don't. And prior to the modern era famine happened all the time.

So is being smart worth it? Depends on the environment. In an environment where survival requires complex behaviors to gather and store food, yes. Like, for example an agricultural society in the temperate zone. In other environments, not really. That's why gorillas are still a thing.

As Steve pointed out there is also the skull size/gestation/locomotion issue: bigger brains mean bigger baby skulls, mean bigger pelvises are required, but this makes locomotion less efficient, so there is a disadvantage to getting too smart, at least as long as your women have to move a significant amount.

Suffice it to say I think in a famine Steve would die before the author of this piece.

Hard to say, because there is some debate on the overall share of families with slaves. But it appears that Jews owned slaves at a similar rate to Christian whites, or possibly higher overall but the same adjusted for socioeconomic class.

SC was both the most Jewish southern state and along with MS was the state with the largest number of slaves relative to total population, while the border states had both few slaves and few Jews.

Many of the early Jewish immigrants to the South came with money made in Holland or the Caribbean, so were better able to afford slaves than, say indentured servant immigrants from Europe. For example, Hamilton's half-Jewish half-brother, though he converted to Christianity at some point.

ben - I was not trying to make a comment about whether monotheism is more usefully understood as a concept in itself or as a mcguffin for discussions and justifications about it ....

    Schwarzenegger? is he a Neanderthal?

ANSWER: yes. Closest to pure-blooded Neanderthal we have.

N.B.: Note that the educated spelling and pronunciation retains the "h" in "Neanderthal." Only "progressives" drop their aitches.

Leftoids get some weird frisson out of calling countries, capitals and skeletons using words from "their own language," usually without knowing who exactly "they" are. Hence "Miasma" [sic] instead of Burma, Mumbai instead of Bombay, and "Neandertal" instead of the long-established Neanderthal.

The background is that the first "Neanderthal" skeleton was found in the "Neanderthal" valley near Dusseldorf in Germany and soon became world famous. Later, Germany "modernized" its orthography and dropped the "h" from the word "Thal" (valley). With customary German thoroughness, even place names were "updated."

Recently, Leftoid academics in the U.S., with their customary veneration of "great" Germans (Hegel, Marx, and, yes, the other H.) somehow discovered the German spelling reforms 100 years after the fact, and decided to "update" the name of the Neanderthal hominids in line with the LATER change of the place name.

Adding "wildly" is putting your thumb on the scale. Wikipedia says non Hispanic whites are 62% of the US population so whites could not be, for example, double their population fraction in any given industry. They can, however be over-represented in a statistically significant way (i.e. unlikely due to random distribution) it's just no one keeps an eye on that. If (made up examples) it turned out that the people who run the chemical, weapons, aerospace, agriculture, and/or plumbing fixtures industries were 90% non-Jewish, non-Hispanic white, no one would bat an eye. That's just normal, right?

That’s a poor argument. Being overrepresented among the productive is a good thing. We’re talking about overrepresentation in positions of power, rentseeking, and luftmensching — positions of consumption/parasitism rather than production.

  • @Intelligent Dasein
What seems to be a preference for height is almost always an affectation that people employ in order to prepossess themselves of the favor of someone whom they desire for quite other purposes. "Height" is sort of a generic compliment you can pay someone, such as "strength" or "handsomeness" would be. For instance, if you were trying to move a couch into your new apartment and saw some guys milling about, a good way to solicit their help would be to say something like, "Would any of you strong young men be willing to lend me a hand here?" That should not be taken to construe that the men in question were particularly strong, or that raw strength was the most desired quality under any circumstance. It is more a case of recognizing that an adequate strength exists in the subjects and, wishing to take advantage of it for your own purposes, flattering it through affect compensation. This only works because most people would prefer to think of themselves as strong as opposed to weak, and will demand this "tribute" from you in exchange for their services. There is a complicated psychological transaction going on here, apart from which it is not clear that burliness confers any particular advantage per se. If the consideration where simply a material one (and if, as the evolutionists insist, life continuously developed itself along the fitness principle) then a trend towards increasing strength would be everywhere and always observed. There would be no accounting for the extreme disparity between the mouse and the elephant, and no way of explaining the variation even within a species. That the compliment is merely a relative one is amply demonstrated by the fact that girls will refer to a man they like as "tall" even when he is barely pushing 5'9". As everyone has felt, it is much easier to give convincing displays of strength when that strength is appreciated and wanted---a subject meriting further examination.

What seems to be a preference for height is almost always an affectation that people employ in order to prepossess themselves of the favor of someone whom they desire for quite other purposes.

No, it’s not. The phenomenon is most obvious where the people are strangers and know nothing about each other besides their appearance and location.

Does the NY Times really have that kind of influence? What fraction of voters even read this?

Particularly in the states that were the battlegrounds.

Really kind of curious as to where things go. If you buy a paper like Bezos did the Post, I'm really not sure he is getting much bang for his buck, other than the fact that people in the Beltway probably know what they wrote about any given day.

But it's not like controlling the Times or Post is going to light a fire under people's butts in Peoria to impeach Trump - or vote for Hillary.

Given the full court press the national media outlets have been putting on Trump, if they don't produce a major scalp in either the midterms or 2020 (and probably both), I think a lot of well heeled types are going to ask themselves whether these media outlets are worth it at all.

And despite the current hoopla, are there really definable benefits for companies to advertise on Google or use Facebook data? You'd think, but my understanding is that results seem to have been very sketchy so far.

Of course, we find the opposite the case. The more politicized, the fuzzier or more subjective the science, the more likely it is to tilt female.

In general I don't think people really care about the future. Politicians want to get re-elected. People want their immediate lives to go smoothly. Whether or not multiculturalism brings about hell on earth isn't of deep concern to almost anyone. And probably far more people fervently wish a hellish outcome for our planet than don't, anyway.

I'm glad this small race-realist corner of the world exists on places like unz.com, but far too little attention is being paid here and everywhere to "designer humans" and the ultimate replacement of mankind by machines. In a few hundred years, at most, all of this "race realism" debate will have been triviality because we'll have seized control over the genetic make-up of our successors.

I think the best and smartest intuitively know this and are hoping this comes about before race-realism becomes undeniable. In this way, they hope to avoid mass murder or global civil unrest.

Me, I just hope we don't nuke ourselves into oblivion before then.

There are now 5 NYT picks. The one I meant was (1 hour before my earlier comment BTW):

John Smithson California 15 hours ago
So much for Robert Mueller being a trustworthy, stand-up guy. His job was to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 campaign. Since he hasn't found any mountains, he's looking for molehills. And we all lose as a result.

Is that what Ken Starr did to Bill Clinton? Yes. And it was wrong then just as it is wrong now. Look at what a joke Brazil, Peru and South Korea have become at criminalizing politics. Aren't we better than that?

The newer NYT Picks better reflect the NYT zeitgeist.

I wonder if the focus on the Access Hollywood tape is true or if that is just a Lugenpresse attempt to tie a fishing expedition back into the Russia narrative.

P.S. FWIW, I find a quick look at both the NYT and Reader's Picks comments is a good way to place a NYT story in the context of The Narrative.

Is that what Ken Starr did to Bill Clinton? Yes. And it was wrong then just as it is wrong now.

Actually, that’s incorrect. What Mueller’s doing is much more wrong then what Ken Starr did because it is clearly illegal.

In reaction to the Starr episode, Congress changed the law to clarify that it is illegal to do what Starr did and Mueller is doing.

Sounds reasonable, but could you elaborate on this?

And here is how The Narrative sees the difference (Mueller is oh so much better than Starr was ; ): http://time.com/5230934/robert-mueller-ken-starr-investigation-donald-trump/

Regardless of that, even if the Starr comparison has problems, I think that NYT Pick comment was notable for its relatively sane perspective on the topic. Contrast with the later NYT Picks on the same article.

There’s some research that is slowly trickling out, I think this blogger is the first to amplify it, that white flight wasn’t motivated by fear of blacks but a rise in crime. A rise that actually occurred as blacks moved in.

If you watch some old documentaries on YouTube you’ll see people both white and black allude to the same thing. I saw one about Philly where a black homeowner led the charge to have a fence separating his development from the projects. He said they’ve been ripping off the homeowners and people were leaving.

Cynthia Nixon doesn't get out much--or outside her bubble. I can't speak to upstate, but in NYC, pot is effectively legal for everyone. Walking about on sidewalks, the smell is in the air. And as it is, supervisors don't want cops taking themselves off patrol for a measly possession arrest as small quantities (<25 g.) are effectively decriminalized, i.e. a violation--like a parking ticket. You'd have to be caught with quantity to actually get arrested. Her cry of racism is a hardy perennial--and ironic as the NYPD police officer rank is majority minority.

But Nixon is very entertaining in a Dem vs Dem way. Pass the popcorn.

Insanely loud parties past 10? Call the police. Car double-parked in the street with sub-woofer blaring ghetto music? Call the police. Blacks squaring off in the middle of the street to beat the hell out of each other? We all call the police.

After 6-12 months, most of our blacks either wind up in jail, or self-deport. Too much bullshit having to act like normal people. Mexicans are expert at giving poor dumb blacks a hard time also, god love 'em. The Indian owner wound up defaulting on his loan and the property went back to the bank. Blacks moved out.

Most recently, the newest owner, a nice Chinese lady, decided to allow one section 8 black "family" to rent one of her units. Twice, they had a domestic quarrel that started in their apartment, and wound up in the middle of the street. We called the police on them both times. The third time it happened we called the police, and I also took it upon myself to call the landlord directly and fill her in. She had no idea what had been going on, and drove over and threatened to evict them if cops visited one more time. They’ve been generally quiet ever since, though they still park like brainless assholes, partially blocking h9meowners driveways overnight, etc. since they’re the only blacks around now, and they’ve improved a lot, we cut 'em some slack.

Point being, just because you get into a white neighborhood, doesn’t mean you have what it takes to stay there. If you’re poor and black, and have problems with following the rule of law, or lack common decency, Whites, Asians, and especially Mexicans have little patience for your dysfunctional ghetto bullshit. We will fuck up your shit, as they say.

More and more, there are less and less places to be a black asshole.

Once again, progressives demonstrate that they think in terms of end results, not processes. If the policies are gone that prevent blacks from living in certain neighborhoods, and blacks still don't live in those neighborhoods, the cause is still the same as it was before. A very conflated way of thinking.

The problem isn't getting blacks into certain neighborhoods, it's getting whites to stay there, so the ultimate goal of the left in this context is to force whites to live in integrated neighborhoods. That's the only way to get the desired end result of integrated neighborhoods. Just like the only way to make gun crime disappear is to take away all guns, but they have to get to that point gradually.

C'mon, give the guy some credit. Maybe he's just trying to mainstream racial differences in the most subtle and digestible way possible. Change is hard for most people, so progress often occurs slowly.

If Reich had embraced Watson and Harpending the NYT would've never published his article and we'd still be suffocating under the PC dogma right now.

Everyone keeps forgetting that we share %99.9 of our genes with each other.

A meaningless number. You share 70% of your genes with this: https://www.livescience.com/52843-acorn-worm-genome-sequencing.html

All living beings - bacteria, bananas, you, real ducks - share 50% of their genes.

ALL of human genetic diversity is in Africa.

    Nope. See Denisovan in Papua's.

There is more diversity between two west Africans than there is between me and a West African.

Nope. You extrapolate Pan-African numbers to West-Africans. But Pan-African numbers include Bushmen and Pygmee's, who diverged really long time ago, as well as East Africans with their large influx of West-Eurasian admixture.

Also, you misunderstand Lewontins Fallacy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_Genetic_Diversity:_Lewontin%27s_Fallacy

Schools certainly know that they are throttling Jewish admissions. It's impossible to know for sure if that's their intent, but given the history, it's a safe assumption.

By the way, Unz' work on Jewish admissions has been pretty credibly debunked:

Debunking Unz’s work doesn’t get you anywhere near a conclusion that the admissions office does not discriminate in favor of Jews. They’re represented at 25 times the rate of whites (compared to base populations).

By the way, I don’t agree that his work has been debunked. I mean, this Gelman fanatic claims that Jews are 10% of the Harvard student body! 10%! LOL!

They were 20% in 1930! And that was AFTER the quota was imposed!

    You keep changing the subject.

We were talking about the likely mix when no restriction via AA is implemented. You then respond with the anecdote of your son.

Of course there are plenty of smart white kids. Just not at the same proportion as 2nd-gen Asian Americans.

When there is no restriction, the mix will end up like what we see at the Regeneron sample (which is nationwide, so not tilted by Silicon Valley demographics).

    You keep changing the subject.

No, i keep saying the same thing:
    – Your suggested number is ridiculous.
    Do the math.

The annecedote of my son was precisely to make the point that various sciency competitions are not necessarily demographically representative in either their participants nor in how seriously they are taken.

Again Regeneron finalists != Harvard admission. Not a complicated point. Your 40 are the finalists of a nerdy select selected science extra-cirricular competiton. The other–broadly as HYPS, plus MIT and Caltech would be near 8000 kids. Does this not register?

8000 top tier elite spaces out of an American cohort of 4m per year is 0.2%. It’s the 1-in-500 level kids in IQ. (Roughly 3SD plus.)

Again my challenge, come up with a plausible model for IQs of various ethnic groups. Apply them to current American 18 year old demographics. (Maybe the problem is you don’t understand the actual numbers of who is in America, not sure.) And show how you get 69% Asian.

You can’t do it, which is i assume why you don’t do it.

You’re wrong. Whites in the top and second tiers of colleges benefit at least as much from the discrimination against Asians as they are hurt by the discrimination in favor of Blacks and Hispanics. At the best colleges, the entire burden of affirmative action falls on Asians. Do the math.

Whites are underrepresented in these schools by an amount that exceeds the entire number of black and Hispanic students. All of these students could be admitted without any effect on Asian admissions.

Whites are the only group underrepresented both on the basis of academic merit and on the basis of population. At a school like Harvard, whites are 25% of the student body, while making up a bit more than 60% of the qualified applicant pool and a bit less than 60% of the country’s population. That a huge underrepresentation by either metric. Meanwhile, Asians are represented at 300% of their share of the population. In regard to which group has it worse, it’s not even a close call.

Actually, the Hottentots are the aboriginals. The whites came in and took over rather quickly.

Then they stupidly invited the Bantus in to do the jobs white men wouldn't do. That was the beginning of the end.

Basically, South Carolina writ large. Without a Sherman or Henry Ford to pull them back into civilization.

Wrong, Tonto. The First Amendment says:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. that the government is not allowed to prohibit."

There can be, and are, private consequences for speech. See James Damore, Kevin Williamson, Juan Williams, etc.

Wrong, Tonto. The First Amendment says:

The First Amendment and “freedom of speech” are different things. Freedom of speech means speech without consequences. What else could possibly make it “free”? How can it be “free” if you have to pay for it? Your examples simply prove we don’t have freedom of speech in this country.

From the numbers I’d estimate ~1.75MM whites have emigrated since 1990, about 2/3rds of the emigrants being English, 1/4th of them Boers, and the rest “other” (guest workers? Portuguese from Angola and Mozambique?).

Surely a third to a half (if not more) of the emigrants were Jewish.

Although youe 1.75 million figure for emigrants seems far too high.

I'm taking into account natural population growth (births, immigration), assuming (perhaps wrongly) the pace of emigration has picked up again somewhat since the last census in 2011, and assuming (again, perhaps wrongly) that the white population peaked in 1989 or 1990, before the 1991 census.

The white population recorded in the last five South African censuses was

    1985: 4.87 million (+0.33 million)
    -- ANC legalized 1990
    1991: 5.07 (+0.20)
    -- ANC takes power 1994
    1996: 4.43 (-0.64)
    2001: 4.29 (-0.14)
    2011: 4.59 (+0.30)

Percent of whites by language spoken at home

    1996: Afrikaans 57.7, English 38.6, Other 3.7
    2001: Afr 59.1 (+1.4), Eng 39.3 (+0.7), Oth 1.6 (-2.1)
    2011: Afr 60.8 (+1.7), Eng 35.9 (-3.4), Oth 3.3 (+1.7)

Portuguese from Angola and Mozambique?). That's partially balanced out by ~350K white immigrants, whom I would guess are mainly returning emigrants, or expats (who account for the rebound in the mysterious "other").

Per wiki SA's Jewish population peaked at 120K, around half of whom subsequently emigrated, so breaking them out separately they'd be about 4% of the total # of white emigrants.
