With the rise in public visibility of far-right-wing militants in the U.S. following the events in Charlottesville, much of the public is scrambling to understand just what this movement is and what forces are driving it. With much of the public discussing strategies for how best to fight right-wing extremism, the need for constructive solutions is greater than ever.

First and foremost, it’s important to point out that public support for far-right extremists is miniscule. The vast majority of Americans reject this movement’s violence and hatred. According to a Marist survey from the summer of 2017, just 4 percent of Americans said they support “white supremacy movement” or “white nationalism.” Similarly, just 6 percent embraced the term “alt-right.” Still, there is a legitimate concern that support for right-wing bigotry may grow in the future if left unchecked.

White nationalists represent one part of Trump’s support base, albeit the most radical part. Trump supporters were about two times as likely as non-Trump supporters to embrace “white supremacy” and “white nationalism” when asked in the Marist survey, although just 5 and 6 percent of Trump supporters respectively supported these ideologies, while only 9 percent supported the “alt-right.” Although recent surveys show that most Trump supporters embrace racist and xenophobic views, and the vast majority share little interest in combatting societal racism, sexism, or inequality, most are not so polarized that they openly support white nationalist protest and violence. Sixty-three million American adults voted for Trump in 2016 – about 25 percent of the adult public. By comparison, white nationalism and supremacy are supported by just 4 percent of Americans. While there’s significant overlap between support for white supremacy and for Trump, these two phenomena are not synonymous.

Recognizing the differences between white nationalists of the “alt-right” and Trump supporters is necessary to understand what is fueling the far-right. It is an exaggeration to claim that Trump voters supported a candidate who was racist, sexist, and xenophobic because of their economic anxiety. Previous research shows that Trump voters were generally not economically distressed; if anything, they were more affluent than the average American, and less likely to hail from disadvantaged socio-economic groups. Most of Trump’s support base is based in the historically privileged conservative and Republican segment of America. For more on the data documenting these trends, see the following studies here, here, here, and here.

White nationalists and supremacists mirror the Republican Party’s demographic base in some ways. Like other Republicans, they are more likely to be male, conservative, and to identify with the right-wing Tea Party contingent in Congress. But in contrast to most members of the Trump-supporting Republican right, they are not more economically privileged. As the recent Marist poll finds, Americans identifying with the “alt-right,” “white nationalists” and “white supremacy” were three times more likely to earn under the median national household income of less than $50,000 a year than to earn over the median income.

Race by itself is not a significant defining characteristic for supporters of the white nationalist/supremacist right. White Americans are not more likely than black and Hispanic Americans to support the far right, and the vast majority of whites are no white supremacists of the “alt-right” variety. Rather, the interaction between race and lack of education seems to play a defining role in radicalizing some Americans in favor of the far-right. When white Americans lack basic educational opportunities and lack access to the information necessary to combat simplistic and erroneous claims of white superiority over people of color, they are more likely to slip into the trap of embracing racial bigotry and hatred.

Despite previous efforts to associate the far-right with young and disillusioned Americans, the evidence of this connection is limited. While the 18-29 age demographic is twice as likely to support the “alt-right” label compared to all other age cohorts, this group is not more likely than other age groups to say they support “white supremacy” or “white nationalism.” Furthermore, young Americans are more likely to identify as left in their politics than right.

It would also be a mistake to attribute support to the far-right merely to economic insecurity.

Much of the recent evidence suggests that economic insecurity is associated with increased support for progressive-left political and economic attitudes, and support for progressive social movements representing the disadvantaged such as Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street, and the Fight for $15 living wage movement. Rather, it appears to be a convergence of factors that work together to push some Americans to the far right, including gravitating toward one-sided alternative media content that embraces the rhetoric of hate. This point is verified in a recent academic study finding that those adopting the “alt-right” label are more likely to express distrust of the mass media, and to rely on alternative media for their information.

It should not be a surprise that reliance on one-sided media content is driving societal polarization. Previous research reveals that consumption of far-right media is associated with developing right-wing attitudes. Selective exposure to information can have detrimental effects, since those opting-into online right-wing “echo chambers” are more likely to deny themselves access to viewpoints that challenge their own views.

The above data suggest that far-right white nationalism has formed from a confluence of numerous factors. These factors include race, class, education, and media consumption. In other words, poorly educated whites who have suffered under the modern neoliberal economy, and who in their alienation gravitate to conspiratorial online information, are prime recruits for the white supremacist movement. Citing the very real economic anxiety of members of the “alt-right” is not meant to defend their hatred or actions, but rather to spotlight precisely where this problem originates.

The findings above are valuable because they provide us with not only a better understanding of where far-right white nationalism comes from, but they also tell us how to fight it. The battle against hate begins with a recommitment from educational institutions to combating reactionary and racist beliefs. To be fair, most educators are already committed to combating racial prejudice and hate. But with the conservative assault on public educational institutions, it is becoming more difficult to secure a quality education for much of the public. This problem becomes more pronounced in poorer, rural, white communities, in which many individuals have little exposure to racial or ethnic diversity, and in which educational institutions are often severely under-funded.

Another means of fighting the rise of the “alt-right” is through reducing economic inequality. If economic desperation is fueling right-wing radicalism, efforts to combat poverty can help remove the economic desperation that underlies the rise of bigotry and hatred. But inequality has been growing in the U.S. for decades, and is now at record levels. Without a serious government commitment to programs that redistribute resources from rich to poor, we are unlikely to see a reduction in inequality. Progressive activists would do well to organize and pressure government to implement such programs. These include: a living wage for all Americans, new legislative protections allowing workers to unionize and collectively bargain for better wages, the introduction of universal health care to ease the mounting costs of care in the U.S., an increase in federal funding for k-12 education (especially in poorer communities), and the introduction of a free college tuition program, coupled with mass student loan forgiveness for millions of Americans sidled with copious amounts of debt.

Combating hatred can be done, and must be prioritized. At a time when the president defends many of the Charlottesville white supremacists and Nazis as “very fine people,” the stakes could not be clearer in demonstrating the need to marginalize right-wing bigotry. But we won’t begin to roll back the problem of white supremacy until we recognize the causes of this hatred. There is much talk about actively combating far-right protesters in the streets via violent and non-violent methods. But it will take a lot more than street fights to address the mounting problem of American fascism. It will take an organized, concerted effort on the part of the masses of Americans to pressure government to reverse the economic trends that are fueling the rise of the reactionary right to national prominence. And it will take a re-prioritization of education, which has been sorely lacking in the modern era.

  1. When white Americans lack basic educational opportunities and lack access to the information necessary to combat simplistic and erroneous claims of white superiority over people of color, they are more likely to slip into the trap of embracing racial bigotry and hatred.

Translation: the left no longer enjoys absolute metapolitical supremacy . I’m university educated, yet embrace the feared ‘far right.’ I wonder where this guy’s pretensions of erudition derive from when he’s proclaiming ‘hatred’ is apriori evil. Hatred is part of the normal spectrum of human emotions, and its what emotionally mobilizes us against threats. One of the primary threats whites face is dispossession in our own homelands. We should most certainly hate the people behind that.

    Let’s take another quote:

It should not be a surprise that reliance on one-sided media content is driving societal polarization. Previous research reveals that consumption of far-right media is associated with developing right-wing attitudes. Selective exposure to information can have detrimental effects, since those opting-into online right-wing “echo chambers” are more likely to deny themselves access to viewpoints that challenge their own views.

What if we change the words round?

Look, I just showed DiMaggio’s views don’t real. Reminder Sir Roger Scruton, an incredibly bourgeois conservative, was persecuted by the liberal academic establishment for wrongthink. DiMaggio talks about ‘echo chambers’ in the same breath he advocates for ‘education’ against racist attitude, ‘education’ presupposing truth has already been determined and all that is left is inculcation.

  2. I suppose I should take solace that the enemy has bad intelligence, Its still disturbing though how they always reach the conclusions they want and are so clueless.
Its hard to define the alt right because the media hysterics and cluelessness led a lot of non cuckservative and cuck lite people to think it was they who were meant by alt right. And before that the White nationalists and neonazis had slid in under the altright brand as a remake. Then theres quite a lot of non cucked right who are clear they are not alt right but the left will insist are because they actually think anyone to the right of, Che? is a nazi, well who knows it changes so fast. These would include the paleos, the teas the BB, the neoreactionaries, and others.

Whats going on is simple, Liberalism is at the end of the road. Its ridiculous absurd. Its been creating ever more bizarre reasons why it never works as predicted for decades, centuries. While many wise people even hundreds of years ago could see the inherent evil, it took this long for it to get to the point even some kid on the street will declare the empire has no clothes.Liberalism is not only very explicit about its intentions to genocide whites, its begun to eat its own. Its lost all discipline, and cant help constantly exposing its genocidal tendencies.
Worse its all happening while other trends are working against it. there debt thats so absurd it cant even be rationally conceived, as a result of the liar loans to make minorities equal through free houses theres now and the subsequent crash and QE theres not a quadrillion in credit default swaps out there more than ten times the amount that caused the crash. The internet shorted out the lefts stranglehold on thought and now they are reduced to stalinist suppression tactics, immigration mostly illegal or quasi illegal throughout the white world has been so absurdly bad in every single possible way its become crystal clear that was the design, its also clear the left and global corporatists have merged, while this may have had strategic advantages its optics work against the lefts marketing, and this is a huge problem the left is increasingly exposed as a naked grab for power by any means possible. its constantly in alliances and positions that are illiberal, whether championing islam, enforcing speech codes, having its largest power brokers be the billionaire class, and opposing democratic self determination like Brexit,Catalan,Trump,Scotland etc.
And its very foundations are being rocked by reality.Democracy is increasingly shown to be more like a cultural quirk than the end of history. The all men are created equal expansion has come up against the reality the certainly are not.To keep the truth from coming out on that and all sorts of supposed truths science has been whored out to such shocking extents that besides it being taken about as seriously as fake news its increasingly alienated scientists who for now try to keep their heads down to eat but are seething in many quarters at the commie humiliation tactics. This of course is just another undermining factor in the lefts always dubious claim to be the side of reason.
Leftism was bound to be tried, enough things had not caught up to new information that reasonable people thought perhaps; perhaps black people oughtn’t be slaves, perhaps they could be cultivated to the standard of the whites, perhaps women needn’t be under men’s authority, perhaps every stupid person with a pulse ought to be allowed an equal voice in the decisions of a nation, perhaps its wise to discard thousands of years of human wisdom and wing it, perhaps nations needn’t be ethnically homogenous, perhaps a secularized christianity will work better, and thousands of other experiments.
Every last scrap of it has by now been proved patently untrue so many times and then retried and failed so many times its a joke,
Halloween is the 500 anniversary of Martin Luthers little tantrum.Leftisms done stick a fork n it

I largely agree Colleen except the problem is less ‘democracy’ than it is liberal democracy, in either its classic or progressive form.

  4. Despite Establishment efforts to transmogrify the term “Alt-Right” into a synonym for neo-Nazi, the reality is that the so-called “Alt-Right” is basically anyone who sees an alt-right meme, and instead of getting triggered, they laugh. That’s who the alt-right is. And it definitely consists of a majority of White men under 40. Probably an overwhelming majority. It also includes a majority of married men of any race, or a majority of married White women. It will eventually encompass a wholesale democratic majority of actual voters in this nation (Trump’s 2016 Electoral College majority was a foreshadowing of this emerging reality).

The Alt Right is about the pursuit of happiness not hate:

This is what the “Pursuit of Happiness” is really about, in my opinion. ‘Integrate’ that, leftist utopians!:

Happiness in modern society: Why intelligence and ethnic composition matter

    https://www.researchgate.net/publication/283881736_Happiness_in_modern_society_Why_intelligence_and_ethnic_composition_matter

Recent developments in evolutionary psychology suggest that living among others of the same ethnicity might make individuals happier and further that such an effect of the ethnic composition on life satisfaction may be stronger among less intelligent individuals. Data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health showed that White Americans had significantly greater life satisfaction than all other ethnic groups in the US and this was largely due to the fact that they were the majority ethnic group; minority Americans who lived in counties where they were the numerical majority had just as much life satisfaction as White Americans did.
    […]
Thus, despite the fact that living among others of different ethnicities today, especially in multi-ethnic societies like the United States, poses very few negative consequences that threaten survival and reproduction, the human brain, designed for and adapted to the ancestral environment, may nonetheless experience such situations as a potential threat, as it would have been in the ancestral environment.

The left wants to tie sixty million Trump voters to these fringe groups. Deplorable = Nazi. It must be very frightening for people who don’t know it’s fake news.

I never read such rubbish in all my life, but PC is all about lies and delusional moral hubris.

With the rise in public visibility of far-right-wing militants in the U.S. following the events in Charlottesville, much of the public is scrambling to understand just what this movement is and what forces are driving it.

What is ‘far right’? According to MSM, any European who wants border security and wants to preserve his nation for his people and culture is ‘far right’. What passes for acceptable ‘right’ is Merkel who invites millions to invade her nation. Only decades ago, the mainstream position of many European conservatives were ‘far right’. Helmut Kohl was certainly NOT for invasion of Germany by hordes. Indeed, even up to the 1980s, German citizenship laws were mostly centered on blood and soil.
Also, why is national sovereignty and racial consciousness ‘far right’ for white gentiles but not so for Jews and blacks?

Also, where do you see the ‘militants’? All the violence at Berkeley, Charlottesville, and Boston were initiated by Antifanissary scum with the help of the Establishment. The cops who were supposed to maintain peace created the very conditions that led to violence. In just about every case, the violence was started by Proglodyte bottom-feeding scum.

First and foremost, it’s important to point out that public support for far-right extremists is miniscule. The vast majority of Americans reject this movement’s violence and hatred.

It’s true that Alt Right is still a small movement. If anything, it’s been overblown by MSM for two reasons. They wanted to tie it with Trump as albatross around his neck. Also, there is a kind of fascination because Alt Right will say fresh things that GOP cucks will not.

Also, the main reason why most Americans are still opposed is because they rely on MSM that is Jewish-globalist controlled. With a fair media, Alt Right would have exploded all over because its positions are so sane and sound. Also, there is public education as indoctrination, and all these lies about Alt Right being about ‘white supremacism’ when it’s a white liberation movement rejecting White Submissivism to Jewish supremacist globalism.

Also, Alt Right has not been violent. It has been vocal and strident but not violent except in self-defense. In contrast, Antifanissary and BLM have destroyed cities and attacked colleges. But Jewish elites keep them around because they are useful.

In World Affairs, the Alt Right has been for anti-imperialism whereas both Parties have been totally supportive of the Warfare State.

Trump supporters were about two times as likely as non-Trump supporters to embrace “white supremacy” and “white nationalism” when asked in the Marist survey, although just 5 and 6 percent of Trump supporters respectively supported these ideologies,

Typical PC crap. Funny how ‘white supremacism’ is a label imposed on Alt Right. It was never adopted by Alt Right. As for Daily Stormer crowd, they are either trolls(sometimes amusing) or nutjobs who initially attacked the Alt Right and jumped onboard only when it became a known brand. ‘White Supremacist’ is a slur. No matter how many times Alt Rightists rejects the term and its positions, they will be branded as such because Jewish Supremacists(who really have supremacist power and ideology) will label them that. But Jews do the same to Iran and Russia. Iran has no nukes and no desire to invade others. But it gets blamed for nukes and wanting to ‘wipe Israel off the map’ even though it is Jewish-controlled US that has been wiping out one nation after another.
And US has been the aggressor against Russia, but of course, the Jewish-controlled media portray Russia as the aggressor and ‘new hitler nation’. Same old song.
Jews hate Alt Right because it rejects white submissivism. Jews project their own supremacism on whites who want OUT of this Jewish globalist empire that has caused so much harm to the world.

Although recent surveys show that most Trump supporters embrace racist and xenophobic views, and

PC gobbledygook. According to PC, white people who don’t want to be reduced to minorities in their traditional homelands are ‘xenophobic’. White people who notice that blacks commit more crime are ‘racist’. So, the only good whitey is one who welcomes Replacist destruction of his own people and culture in US and EU. This is PC logic. Funny how Trump voters were more likely to be anti-imperialist and anti-war, even more so than Progs. Also, how is it ‘xenophobic’ to NOT want to be invaded and replaced by foreign peoples? So, Tibetans are ‘xenophobic’ for not wanting to be replaced by Chinese? Palestinians are ‘xenophobic’ for being sour about being replaced by Jewish ‘immigrants’? If it was tragic that American Indians lost their land to whites, it would also be tragic for whites to lose their nations to a bunch of lowlifes like Suketu the vile person of dot.

Also, non-whites who want to come to white nations must also be ‘xenophobic’ since they loathe their own kind and want to flee to white nations to live with whites. If these non-whites can’t stand their own kind, why should whites stand them? If Suketu wants to get away from other Hindus just as vile and lowlife as he is, why should whites welcome such scum?

…in contrast to most members of the Trump-supporting Republican right, they are not more economically privileged. As the recent Marist poll finds, Americans identifying with the “alt-right,” “white nationalists” and “white supremacy” were three times more likely to earn under the median national household income of less than $50,000 a year than to earn over the median income.

Two things to consider. It is economically risky to be associated with White Consciousness. As US is Jewish Supremacist controlled, whites must cuck out to Jews. If a Jewish person says “I love my fellow Jews and I love Israel”, he is showered with jobs, cash, and prizes. If a white guy says “I love my race and European and white nations should be preserved”, he is attacked by institutional power.
Whites cannot support whites. Rich whites cannot even care about poor whites. When the stats for ‘white death’ was revealed, the Jewish-run MSM and academia did everything possible to bury it. Whites must support ISRAEL and Jews. It’s like Ben Shapiro gets to be ‘leading conservative figure’ because he’s for racial-national identity for Jews but NOT for whites.

Also, Alt Right has a lot of young people, and younger people are naturally lower-earners than established middle aged types. Also, many people will not say they are Alt Right for the simple reason that they can be destroyed by the Dominant Power of Jews and their cuck-bots.

These factors include race, class, education, and media consumption. In other words, poorly educated whites who have suffered under the modern neoliberal economy, and who in their alienation gravitate to conspiratorial online information, are prime recruits for the white supremacist movement.

Again, the writer misses the point. It’s true that the uneducated and lower IQed whites tended to go for extremist movements like skinheads, Neo-Nazism, and other Hollywood Nazi types so often featured on Jerry Springer show. And such types still do exist.

But Alt Right didn’t originate among such types, and its main core isn’t composed of them. Alt Right is not Stormfront even though there are surely people who straddle both sides of the fence.
Your average Alt Right is actually better educated or self-educated than most Leftists who have become an embarrassment with the replacement of classic Marxism with vain narcissistic ‘identity politics’ and decadence and degeneracy.

Also, Alt Right is most dangerous to the Current System not because of its ‘extreme’ views but because of its Obvious Observations of how things are: Jews got elite power, blacks are naturally more aggressive and criminal, there are IQ differences among races, men and women are really different, homo ‘butt-sex’ shouldn’t be celebrated or worshiped, etc.
In the Current System, bakeries are destroyed for not honoring this perversion called ‘gay marriage’. You can be destroyed in NY for not calling a man with a wig as a ‘she’. NY is a Pervert Supremacist City or Degenerate Supremacist Megapolis.

It is the Jews who have done everything to tie Alt Right with ‘neo-nazis’. Those guys at Charlottesville with nazi flags were plants, probably by FBI. There’s no doubt that the Jewish mayor, the Democratic governor, the cops, and etc conspired to shut the event down even though Alt Right did everything legally and correctly. And then, after the event, Google even shut down Andy Nowicki’s Alternative Right site down even though Nowicki wasn’t even at the event and has been critical of Spencer.

The reason why the System fears the Alt Right is not because it is ‘nazi’ but because most if it isn’t. If Alt Right were like Jerry Springer’s clown Nazis, it would hardly be a threat. There are those like Anglin who still like to play this act either as troll or nutjob. But core of Alt Right is NOT that. At most, one can say Alt Right isn’t properly denunciatory of Nazism, but then have Jews been properly denunciatory of Jews who served in Soviet system or sent Stalin the secrets to the Bomb? Trump never met with David Duke, but that was made a big deal. In contrast, Obama(tool of Jews) had ties with Bill Ayers, but that was no big matter. Never mind David Duke has NO power. In contrast, crazy Sheldon Adelson owns half of Congress and has politicians kissing his ass. This lunatic called for the nuking of Iran, a nation with no nukes. But the media make no fuss over that. Why? Media and Adelson are both Jewish supremacist.

I can go on and on but what’s the point? Dimaggio is just another BS artist who pretends to stand up to the Establishment but regurgitates the same talking points about ‘white supremacist’ blah blah.

Alt Right positions are eminently sane and sensible.

    https://altright.com/2017/08/11/what-it-means-to-be-alt-right/

If the world was governed by these ideas, there would be more peace, more understanding, more stability, and more pride for ALL PEOPLES.

But globalism and Dimaggioian PC says whites must only feel ‘guilt’ and ‘self-loathing'(partly as virtue vape of self-righteousness) and welcome invasion and destruction of their own nations. And non-whites should neglect fixing their own nations and just seek quick fix by moving to and mooching off white nations. And the world should be remade with homomania, feminism-gone-nuts, and Afromania(in worship of the most savage and destructive people on planet).

It’s funny how leftist writers always twist the words of anyone not in their camp, even a centrist like Trump. Trump denounced the white supremacists at the Charlottesville incident like he was a board member of the NAACP, but the author states he called some of the “White supremacists and neo-Nazis very fine people.” Does this guy think we can’t read? We can’t listen to his statements on our own? I don’t get it. He’s like the clowns who always say that Trump called all Mexicans “rapists.” We all heard the speech, we can go on line and listen to it again, that’s not what he said. Prof. DiMaggio quotes a Marist poll, which suggests that in my county, I ought to be able to find maybe 10 thousand people who’ve signed onto “white supremacy” and “white nationalism”, and maybe 15 thousand folks who are on board as “alt-right”. Sorry, buddy, they don’t exist. They just don’t exist. Ain’t no tiki torch parades, no white sheets, no sloganeering–nada.

God bless America’s intellectuals. We need ’em, but probably fewer of ’em. When they get revved up, as Prof. DiMaggio is revved up, they can put out a whole mess of rhetorical fur balls that likely wouldn’t survive a line-by-line editing.

  12. Alt Right is different from ‘white supremacist’ movements of the past.

Much of WS was based on fantasy in the ‘They Saved Hitlers Brain’ mode.

And then, there was the Militia Movement. This had some white supremacist elements but it was really about ridiculous paranoia about the Federal Government and Foreign Military Invasion(like in RED DAWN). They had no grounding in reality. People in the Militia Movement were right to be anxious about State Power, but their views tended toward fantastical than real. They treated the Federal government like UFO. Like today’s Progs see ‘KKK’ everywhere, even at Oberlin. Like idiot feminists see Rape Culture where it least exists: among white college males while overlooking the fact that blacks are champion rapists.
(White Supremacism should really be called White Inferiority Complex as it’s mostly about whites of inferior IQ and ability using supremacism as therapy. It’s like the Black Inferiority Complex of ‘We Wuz Kangz’ BS. Since blacks achieved so little in terms of civilization, Kangzism creates this fantasy of how Egyptians were blacks and had flying pyramids.)

Since Neo-Nazis/skinheads and Militias were so divorced from reality — Timothy McVeigh with this chip-in-butt theory — , they had no future. They were bound to fade away, like the Black Panthers whose fantasy of Afro-Maoist uprising in the US was pure fantasy.

In contrast, what the Alt Right stands for is totally in tune with political situation and historical events. Even if the Alt Right did not exist, something like it would come into being because globalism creates all these anxieties and not only in the West. Something has to appear as a counter to crazy globalism dominated by Jewish supremacists and their sicko homo degenerate allies. Also, the internet made it difficult for MSM to define White Politics. Prior to the internet, Jewish & Liberal Media always featured neo-nazi loons and etc as the face of white racial politics. This had a twofold impact. It made ‘anti-racists’ hate White Identity even more, and those who wanted a White Conscious Politics decided against it since the ONLY movements associated with such seemed to be Nazi loons and KKK skinhead morons.
But thanks to the internet, it has been possible for sane and balanced White Political Voices to come together and make their case. Since these views are so sane and sound(compared to what globalism has to offer), the Jewish supremacists are panicking and trying to tie Alt Right with Neo-Nazis and ‘white supremacism’, which is why every MSM piece on Charlottesville say it was a gathering of ‘violent white supremacists’ and ‘neo-nazi terrorists’.

In fact, given the demented nature of globalism, Alt Right is most necessary and not just for white nations. All nations are coming under the same pressure.
There are something like ‘identitarian’ movements popping up all over the world because globalism undermines, debases, devalues, and destroyed so much.

Whether it’s trashy pop culture, homomania, US neo-imperialism, finance imperialism, or general degradation of heritage, history, and territory, there’s bound to be a reaction that wants to set the world right toward something deeper, stabler, saner, and more balanced.
This is esp true since the ‘left’ has lost all moorings to its past sense of justice and has become the tool of oligarchs and decadents.

If not for the Jewish stranglehold of media, Alt Right ideas would easily be the norm for most nations since they make the most sense. Not as ‘extreme’ ideas but sensible ideas of sanity and limitation. Nationalism is about limits. It’s about ‘our nation is our business and your nation is your business’. Globalism says all nations except Israel should be invaded and its people should welcome being replaced and denigrated as the ‘oppressive’ majority. Globalism is about limitless hubris, greed, and dominance. It’s about hegemony.

I take it you haven’t been red pilled by Moldbug yet? Well I stubbornly hold on to some reservations but hes quite convincing and a fun read if you never. His point is theres no such thing as non liberal democracy sort of Kuehnelt and Carlyle meet Hipster Coder who got mugged. Well anyway hes sort of whos behind all this neoreaction that kinda sorta is behind alt right though they hate and disavow each other.
His thesis is LONG it a whole blogs worth, But its a great critique of post modern democracy, how can i consense this. Ok this is impressionistic. Jefferson and company were leftist revolutionaries who overthrew a good and lawful king and then went about spreading patent nonsense like all men are created equal throughout the world. So what did you think would happen. It doesn’t matter that they didnt mean it they did subconsciously. But of course they came up with that crazy Ideas Americans are descended from the puritans who were so radical even cromwell expelled them to halt the holiness spiral. And so basically whats going on in the world is the Harvard occupied world government, or “the Cathedral” It doesnt require conspiracy but power centers like Academia, Media, NGOs the permanent Government in the form of civil service like state dept,Unions, all have a vested interest in supporting each other to maintain power. and at the root of that power is the moral hazards of democracy, All these powers dont actually own their fiefdoms and the people are stupid. Now this is where he losses me, I agree theres a problem that people are stupid and we specialize in importing the stupidest types we can find and Im sure thats no accident, and no doubt half the people are below average and women should never have been allowed to vote. However going back to monarchy is never going to happen he suggests this neo cameralism which I think is equally absurd. the truth is his critique is excellent but he doesnt have a replacement but hes clever enough a lot of very smart people have formed around him or rather his work as hes stopped writing years ago. I know what the answer is we probably all do but as neitzche predicted we cant bear to face it, this slave morality must go and we supermen must rise from the ashes of this wreck and leave mankind behind

  26. Hard to take seriously an article about the “Alt-Right” that starts out by yammering about Nazis and “white supremacists”.

How about this as a definition – the “Alt-Right” is a loose collection of people whose worldviews gravitate toward the following notions:
    – Men and women are different. They like different things and pursue objectives by different means. This is self-evident in ALL the literature of ALL nations of ALL time.
    – The idea of transgenderism is gobbledygook. People who claim to be Napoleon are crazy. “Whites” who claim to be Black are crazy. People who claim to be horses are crazy. But men who claim to be women are heroes? No.
    – The behavior of American Blacks causes many of the pathologies that group suffers; just as the behavior of American Asians causes many of the benefits that group enjoys.
    – It is not OK to accept just anybody in one’s home or country. No home accepts random strangers. No worthwhile school accepts random students. No worthwhile employer employs random employees. Then why should our nations accept random people?
    – All cultures are not equal. Some cultures have put men in space; others not so much. It is the case that some cultures are better than others, and European/Western/Christian culture is by far the greatest one. The vast majority of, say, Africans and Indians adore Western technology, love Western spectacle (e.g. soccer or cinema), and would move to the USA without a second thought if given the opportunity. What does that say? That great multitudes agree that American culture is somehow awesome.
    – America’s recent foreign policy has been excessively aggressive and has failed to achieve the very objectives it has set for itself. America should invade fewer countries, kill fewer people, and mind its own business.
    – Peoples and nations generally have the right and even the responsibility to mind their own business and pursue their own interest. If the Brits want out of the European Union, then good for them.
    – The idea of Anthropogenic Global Warming as popularly understood is suspect on at least three counts: (1) It is not clear that mankind is causing any significant “Climate Change”; (2) it is not clear there is any “warming”; (3) it is not clear that any warming would be catastrophic or even bad for humanity or the environment.
    – As the 2008 crisis revealed, the people in charge of the economy many be missing some of the finer points of economic theory.
    – The Mainstream Media is out of its mind, spews nothing but lies, and is not worth listening to.
    – The Republican and Democratic parties are out of their minds, in thrall to weird interest groups, and generally suspect and worth voting for only from tactical considerations.

    That’s the “Alt-Right”.

Maybe the ‘alt-right’ and ‘white supremacist’ terms are simply perjorative mislabelling of those white people who recognise the Culturally Marxist swamp that dominates this country’s political. media and education systems for what it is. Spiritual inversion and betrayal.

Marxism (of EVERY stripe) attempts to hijack the human ethical instinct and put it in service of centralised banking power.

Cultural Marxism and its ‘Hope not Hate/’Antifa’ armies can be thus defined in a nutshell.

    Satan is Love.

At a time when the president defends many of the Charlottesville white supremacists and Nazis as “very fine people,”

Trump said no such thing. Any reasonable person would conclude, from his actual words, that he was simply pointing out that not all the Charlottesville demonstrators were white supremacists and Nazis Which is almost certainly true, though really difficult to prove at this point.

“the stakes could not be clearer in demonstrating the need to marginalize right-wing bigotry.”

Interesting use of adjectives. Why not marginalize “bigotry” rather than “right-wing bigotry?” Doesn’t wording it this way imply other varieties of bigotry are A-OK?

  29. Logan says:

Interesting that the author never does get around the answering the question that is purportedly the topic of his article. Who Are the “Alt-Right”?

This allows him to lump large numbers of people in to make the movement appear more threatening, then use the views of the most extreme among them to define what the “alt-right” believes.

  30. Thirdeye says:
    @Yojimbo/Zatoichi

    BLM did get a mention:

Much of the recent evidence suggests that economic insecurity is associated with increased support for progressive-left political and economic attitudes, and support for progressive social movements representing the disadvantaged such as Black Lives Matter…..

Of course that’s a shaky statement, since support for “progressive” identity politics mostly comes from privileged whites who see their own privilege as “white privilege” rather than economic privilege and want to pump up their sense of virtue while keeping their wallets fat. Interestingly, living in close proximity to minorities was positively correlated with support for Trump in pre-election polling.

The supposed inverse correlation between voting for Trump and being towards the lower end of income falls away when you subtract out low income minority voters. Lower income whites broke towards Trump relative to more privileged whites.

Alt-right doesn’t trust the mainstream media? Shocking! I mean, after the reports of Saddam Hussein supporting Al Qaeda and developing weapons of mass destruction, spontaneous mass uprisings to overthrow the governments of Libya, Syria, and Ukraine, poison gas attacks in Syria, and cops killing innocent cherubs like Michael Brown in cold blood, who in their right minds could ever doubt them?

Call it “citizenism”, call it “traditionalism”, or somethin’. I vote Libertarian, but free markets are not a religion with me.

Lawrence G. Proulx first brought my attention to the idea of ‘definitonal hypertrophy.’ I think it is an oft-used tactic of the left. Expanding the goal posts on ‘racism’ and ‘sexism’ and now ‘nationalism’ to include highly negative aspects cloaks former common sense concepts in the dark pejorative poncho.
Is any white organization a racist org.? Is this an example of definitional hypertrophy? The definition of ‘racism’ has expanded considerably over the years, from Birmingham, Al. regs in the fifties to simply ‘noticing race’ differences nowadays. ‘Sexism went from not hiring women to saying ‘Hey you look sexy.’ So why not move the goal posts on ‘nationalism’ to make it equal to ‘supremacism’? Thus any peep from a group that refers to the people formerly known as ‘White’ w/o an apology is racist.

I never read such rubbish in all my life, but PC is all about lies and delusional moral hubris.

    a. Makes me sad that the author is a paisano. My Italian ancestors brought a lot more smarts to the table than this dude displays.

    b. Maybe the rubbishieness is due to DiMaggio’s Lehigh connection. First, Lehigh is in Bethlehem, PA, a failed steel town. Second, Lehigh is home to Michael Behe, proponent of intelligent design. Obvious conclusion: Lehigh is physically and intellectually drawing from the slag heap.

    c. The reliance on polls is pure Luntz, with the caveat that Luntz is only the latest or current practitioner of that black art of disseminating “Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics.” I say Luntz is the latest based on 2 sources: first, the first Hasbara manual I acquired, produced by or for the World Union of Jewish Students, advised budding hasbarats to “use polls. Take a survey that you know will support your point of view”. Second, something I just read in a book by Benjamin Ginsberg, about all the Jews in Franklin Roosevelt’s administration. Ginsberg wrote that FDR’s administration was the first to use and rely on polling. So polling is basically a method of jiggering information to get the results you want.

    d. It’s even sadder that the source for DiMaggio’s polls is a college that was established to train Catholic brothers. The Marists appear to have made a specialty of polling. For shame. They do their adversary’s work. E Michael Jones shared this fascinating insight into “Catholic” — (@ 27 min)

“What is a Catholic? A Catholic loves to internalize the commands of his oppressor. He loves to be considered a good person in the eyes of people who are his enemy, and as a result he becomes completely ineffective.”

But lately I’ve begun warming to it:

1 It can be interpreted as making pro-White concerns supreme over all others, which is definitely a characteristic of White Nationalism.
2 It just sounds kinda cool. What self-respecting White person (no, Boomers aren’t self-respecting) WOULDN’T want to live in a White Supremacist country? The new Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party is much more popular in Eastern Germany than it is in Western Germany, and the AfD is an extremely russophile organization. As far as I know, all band members of Rammstein grew up in the DDR/Eastern Germany, which might explain their America-critical attitude and art. So, they are not really German nationalists or representative of the majority of Germans, in my opinion.

Also, most (West) Germans don’t realize how “German” America in fact is, but they can feel it intuitively, and that might be why they like and admire America and Americans so much…

The alt right rads are a reaction to several things:

    It is a counteraction to the confirmation bias of the liberal fad of contemporary culture;

    It is a counteraction to the rich limo libs constantly labeling working class whites as racists, so they can relieve their own white guilt feelings;

    It is a counteraction to the failed progressive racial policies of the New Left;

    It is a counteraction to the never ending afro animosity against whites (blame whitey for everything), where their behavior always exhibits a lack of wanting to get along with the rest of American culture;

    It is that other races are financially struggling, while being insulted with the false allegations of white privilege, while afros receive constant never-ending benefits;

    and while afros receive these perpetual benefits, their complaining ever increases (no matter how much they get, they always want more, and are never satisfied or thankful);

Afros are consumers (takers) not producers who currently live as parasites to the rest of our economic system (which in the long term is not sustainable).

and finally, they kill more American residents than any other group category of people (including terrorist, and to you anarcho capitalist complainers living in rural/suburban cupcake land, cops).

“West German like and even admire America and Americans”

Total Bullshit : the great majority of Germans simply hate, simply detest America and Americans , as the Germans hoped and prayed for an anti-American leftist President to arrive upon the scene and when it finally happened in 2008, they were overjoyed at the prospect of him “Cutting America down to size”.
One has to realize and come to grips with the basic overbearing German know-it-all, ( Besserwisser) mentality, and to take it from there, as the Germans consider the great majority of Americans to be uncultured crude barbarians.
Another example being the generous German social system, and the fact that the Germans simply do not understand that this luxury is dependant upon their continued success with overseas markets, and if for whatever reason their export surplus should cease or greatly diminish, at that point they will be forced to profoundly reduce this abberation of common sense.
The Germans love to rub their “Sozialsystem” under the noses of the, in their view, hard-hearted Americans, but they are too stupid to grasp that they can only have such a system in place BECAUSE of the Americans and other peoples willingness to purchase their products, and if this should cease or diminish drastically they are in deep trouble regarding their social systems.

  74. DiMaggio seems singularly obtuse about what the alt right really is and what drives it.

The alt right is a reaction primarily to the doctrine of multi-culturalism and the mass importation of non-white people into formerly white countries, and secondarily a reaction against the extraordinary degeneracy of modern day culture. Ratcheting up the racial equality rhetoric in schools will only put more people in the alt right, especially in the increasing number of schools that have high percentages of black and Hispanic students. In such schools white students get a PhD in racial reality by the time they are out of the 8th grade. And yes, increasing economic inequality is a problem for this country, but that has come about due to the neoliberal policy of constantly importing cheap labor while outsourcing expensive jobs. The only presidential candidate in recent years to oppose that is Donald Trump. Before that it was Pat Buchanan, who was almost as much hated by the MSM in his presidential campaign as Donald Trump was.

Christianity is dying and the new religion of the elites is Diversity. Diversity means fewer whites. One can watch MSNBC and see the commentators gloating over the coming white minority. (The smaller the better, no doubt.) Think of all those Democratic strategists who have been happily looking forward to Texas following California and going blue, as Hispanics become the majority. Is it surprising that there is a reaction to this? Suppose we had a word, say Frimosity, that meant “fewer Jews”. A funny looking guy in a mustache promotes the benefits of Frimosity and the elites of his country soon go along, agreeing that Frimosity is their country’s greatest strength. Would there be any Jews dumb enough to fall for the cult of Frimosity?

With the exception of James Fields’ road rage incident, all the violence at Charlottesville was initiated by antifa and its allies like BLM. The right simply defended itself from their attacks. The police refused to keep those groups apart, no doubt under orders by the police chief and the mayor. The authorities quite deliberately used violent antifa thugs to shut down the Unite the Right rally. Until people like DiMaggio acknowledge the hatred and violence on the leftists’ side they can not be taken seriously in their criticisms of the alt right.

    Thank you for your feedback.

NATO is synonymous with the USA and Americans for many Europeans, since the U.S. is the biggest financial contributor to it, etc., and NATO is almost universally popular in Europe, particularly in northern Europe.

Germans appreciate and recognize the out-sized role America and Americans play in providing peace and security to Europe, which is one reason why Germany has and can afford such a generous social system. They just did not like Bush 43’s Iraq war, and they are skeptical of Trump now, but one of the reasons why Trump is so unpopular in Europe is actually that he threatened to pull the U.S. out of NATO, believe it or not.

The United States provided such leadership most of the time since World War II. The fact that the United States was the leader of “the West” was unchallenged, even if the quality of that leadership was frequently questioned, for example during the Vietnam War and, more recently, in response to the invasion of Iraq. But there was no country that could challenge American leadership of NATO, (even though France on occasion tried).
    […]
Merkel’s criticism of Trump will do her no harm in the election, as there are likely few less popular Americans in Germany than Donald Trump.
    […]
Against this backdrop, the transatlantic crystal ball remains clouded. The United States currently can lay no claim to leadership of the West, or even of the transatlantic alliance, as the positions and posturing of Donald Trump have at least temporarily relinquished that responsibility.

Germans like Americans and America, in my experience, they just don’t like the opaque American “Deep State”, but neither do Americans, as far as I can tell.

And even though most survey respondents said they aren’t getting enough information about Germany, it appears that they have been sensing the strain that the spying revelations have put on the transatlantic partnership. When asked if they think Germans like the United States and Americans, the number of those who said “yes” went down noticeably (7% since 2011), while the “no” and “not sure” responses went up.
    […]
Americans also feel that Germany is the non-Anglo-Saxon country they share most values with. Almost four out of ten people in the U.S. say they have common values with Germans.

In such schools white students get a PhD in racial reality by the time they are out of the 8th grade.

That is my inner city school experience exactly! The hispanics (back then, mostly Puerto Rican) were either into heavy metal, and associated with whites, or they were afro wannabes (what most White millennials are today) who associated with Blacks.

It was the afros, and their associates, who brought most of the anarchy, chaos, and violence, into the classroom. This destroyed the learning environment, but provided an education in street smarts that our fashionably liberal suburban white crowd never get (so instead of relating to real world empirical experience, they pontificate from afar with reality denying fashionably liberal ideas instead).

The main difference with other non whites, as compared to our afro americans, is that the afros are extremely hostile people, which makes it almost impossible to find a common ground to get along with. The current NFL take a knee nonsense is a perfect example of this.

Between afros slowly bankrupting our economy at the local level, and their aggressive antisocial behavior, there is obviously no getting along with them. The liberal answer is more pandering. The realist answer is that we all know where this is headed, and when the afro r war is declared (because we can no longer afford to pay, the afro extortion fee, for a bankrupted welfare system), it will not end well for the afros at all (nor the progressive SJW who enabled it).

Thus, we are all held hostage to this dysfunctional racial mess, until it cannot go on anymore, and finally ends (violently). Did not have to be this way, but it is (and we probably passed the tipping point for the momentum of these future events). We will eventually return to societal homeostasis, but not without some pain first.

    […]

They do not despise the “current” Republicans for their current actions, rather their hatred goes back decades and applies to Republicans in general, as they have no clue as to the sordid history of the Democrats, and from their viewpoint they simply see the Democrats regardless of their history, as the “good” guys and the Republicans as the “bad” guys, period.

Americans can even study for free in Germany!

Tuition to U.S. universities has surged 500 percent since 1985 and continues to rise. But German universities offer free education to everyone — including Americans.

The number of American students enrolled in German universities has risen steadily in recent years. Currently, an estimated 10,000 U.S. citizens are studying at German colleges — nearly all of them for free, according to NBC News.

German universities in most federal states have traditionally been free for German citizens as well as many foreigners, including many American, Chinese and British students. One reason German taxpayers foot the bill is to help attract more skilled workers to the country.http://www.unz.com/isteve/tyler-cowen-interviews-raj-chetty-on-my-critique/#comment-1888952

    >> Overall they recognize that we cannot maintain this ever-expanding welfare payments to afro americans indefinitely.

    >> That this economic burden of afro entitlements will not politically end, because afros are no longer capable of self care.

    >> The majority of afros do not show any appreciation for all the benefits they have constantly received over the last fifty years. Instead, like cancer, they consume the economic body until the body itself can no longer sustain itself and dies.

    >> They recognize that afros are a hostile, unreasonable, & antisocial, racially obsessed people, who proportionally commit the majority of criminal acts of violence against other American residents (of all races).

    >>They recognize that once the welfare system fails to make payments, that there will be an afro declared r war against the rest of society.

    >>They recognize that liberal pandering is not improving the situation, but instead is exasperating it. Especially when afros refuse to live in peace with the rest of the society that provides them support.

    >>Finally they recognize that they did not want this situation to develop, but was thrust upon them by the agenda of the New Left progressives.

    >>Thus, not being responsible for the creation of this racial mess, they refuse to become victims to the potential of a afro declared r war. They will not abdicate their right to self defense.

My Time Undercover With the Alt-Right

By PATRIK HERMANSSON SEPT. 27, 2017

Robert Bruce: Fundamentally, all the alt-right stands for is the idea that ethnic Europeans have the same moral entitlement as every other people on earth: namely, a land of their own. They ask why it is that ethnic Europeans, uniquely, face a moral obligation to turn themselves into ethnic minorities and hope it all works out for their descendants. And, so far, no one has been able to answer that question.

PH: I’m afraid I fundamentally reject the premise of this question on several fronts. First, it’s based on the premise that ethnic groups have an “entitlement” to certain pieces of land. Ethnic groups have moved around the globe for millenniums so when exactly did this become static and certain ethnic groups became “entitled” to certain bits of the planet? Second, you state that Europeans “face a moral obligation to turn themselves into ethnic minorities.” Where is this the case? This is the sort of spurious demographic nonsense the alt-right uses all the time.
