Ever wonder what it would be like for a website or platform to suddenly just pull the plug on an enormous swath of its users? Not just one or two thought criminals (such as, to pick at random, American Renaissance), or even a few dozen or hundred users, but a massive purge? Well, you are about to see such an act, arguably for the first time.

On December 3, the micro-blogging platform Tumblr announced that in one fortnight, on December 17, all “adult content” will be permanently removed from its site.

What is Tumblr? It’s just one of the most popular blogging platforms on the planet. So popular, in fact, it often ranks as one of the most popular websites on earth. Moz, at the time of this writing, placed it as number fourteen, putting it higher than Amazon.com.

Tumblr is like a cross between WordPress and Twitter. You create your own account/site, which is yours, but is still on the Tumblr platform. The structure of site is such that it is best used for visuals (photos, videos, GIFs, memes) as opposed to longform writing (as in the case of WordPress) or pithy quips and jokes (as in the case of Twitter).

Founded in 2007, for a while it was the “it” platform to be on. I set one up in high school because, well, all the cool kids were doing it. During my first week of college, I mentioned to another freshman that though I was not on Facebook, I did have a Tumblr, to which he replied, “God, you are such a hipster.”

Over the years, Tumblr became best known for three things:

1) It was the original incubator for what we now call “Social Justice Warriors.” Back in 2011, if you wanted to find political opinions expressing outrage about how absolutely everything was unforgivably racist, Tumblr was the place to find it (Great example: “Yo, Is This Racist?”).

2) Fan blogs. Fan blogs are centered around one celebrity, TV show, or what have you, and they just post a lot of photos and GIFs related to the theme and blather on about how much they like it; similar to theteeny bopper magazines of yore.

3) Porn. As some of you may have guessed when I noted that Tumblr was a very visual medium, it always lent itself well to porn clips, erotic (or simply explicit) photography, and the all-important GIFs.

Just how much of Tumblr is porn? I doubt anybody knows for sure, but the short answer is: “a ton.” (VDARE.com is only posting pictures of Tumblr girls in bikinis, but they are overdressed by Tumblr standards.) One report on the announcement put it this way:

Since its launch in 2007, the platform has been a popular host for explicit blogs, sex worker websites and porn-centered communities who relished having a safe, unrestricted space to call their own…

… not only was explicit content from that community a key driver of Tumblr’s initial success, it has been essential to the site’s longevity, as countless other more advanced social media networks and apps have saturated the market and chipped away at the company’s share. That Tumblr still exists is due, in no small part, to the loyalty of adult content creators who are now being told that their posts — the bulk of Tumblr’s content — are no longer welcome. (emphasis added)

[Tumblr Latest Site to Crack Down on Porn, by Amelia McDonell-Parry, Rolling Stone, December 3, 2018.]

Set aside, for just a moment, however you feel about porn, its purveyors, and its connoisseurs. What Tumblr is doing here is really quite incredible. It is purging from its rolls one of its most defining and popular aspects—the ability to post porn.

There are hundreds of thousands, if not more, of loyal Tumblr users who have been running porn-centric blogs for years—some for more than a decade. They have built up voluminous archives to their liking, and in many cases amassed huge followings of folks with similar, shall we say, “tastes.”

Then, one day, Tumblr announced that in fourteen days it will all be gone. It is not just that users will no longer be able to post porn, it is that all porn that has been posted will be deleted—and the WayBack Machine preserves precious few Tumblrs, and in general is bad at preserving photos and videos anyway. Archive.org volunteers are trying: see The frantic, unprecedented race to save 700,000 NSFW Tumblrs for posterity |Volunteers are scrambling to download up to 800 terabytes of content from Tumblr’s adult-themed community before it disappears from view on December 17,By Sean Captain, Fast Company, December 12, 2018.

Imagine if your Twitter were deleted not because you did anything that violated their terms of service, but simply because Twitter one day decided to change its rules for posting and found that essentially all of your tweets were in violation of their new rules, so gave you two weeks’ notice and then blew it all away.

Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Tumblr users are now essentially in that situation. Again, however you feel about porn, it is a bit sad. Imagine working on a blog for ten years and then just having the plug pulled.

Tumblr is doing this for a few different reasons. The biggest is that they never really got good at keeping child porn off the platform in any kind of permanent or comprehensive way.

But other important factors were:

1) They had a hard time keeping spam porn Tumblrs—run by bots seeking to generate revenue for whatever porn site—at bay.

2) They just did not really want to be known as a platform largely used for porn. For years it has been easy to find lists across the web about the best Tumblr porn out there (e.g. here and here)—and those lists could be found on prominent and well-read websites, mind you. One them was Salon.com, which normally agonizes about “sexy profile pics”.There has also been the understanding for a few years now that if you are looking for good porn, the best place to go hunting is Tumblr.

Corporations, regardless of size, are certainly prone to making sudden and dramatic changes in course—and this is one such example.

But what makes this so interesting, and noteworthy, is that there is essentially no chance this change will make Tumblr’s user base happy. Tumblr has, in effect, grown tired of one huge segment of its users and is purging them. You might even say they are abolishing this user base, and hoping to Elect A New—and better—one.

The two questions that arise are:

1) Where are all the pornographers going to go?

2) Will Tumblr find a new and equally sizeable user group to make up the difference, or will they shrink into irrelevance, or even fold?

In the case of the pornographers, I suspect that they will in time find a solution. As with Dissident Rightists, pornographers face all kinds of deplatforming and social stigma, and tend to find ways around it. (It helps that they, unlike us, have money to throw at problems).

For example, the pornography industry now has an equivalent to Patreon (OnlyFans.com), as they knew Patreon would give them the boot in no time. When individual pornographers are told by banks or realtors to take a hike, the pornography industry as a whole networks and helps each other out. When legislation is being considered that would clamp down or regulate pornography, the industry includes previews in their DVDs asking viewers to call their representatives to protest—and they tweet about it aggressively as well, to their typically huge armies of followers.

As for Tumblr, only time will tell.

Let us all hope, however, that things end badly for them. If Tumblr crashes and burns because of this, Silicon Valley will assuredly take note that summarily purging a huge set of users of a certain service—and out of the blue at that—can come with very bad consequences.

While you might not like being compared to porn aficionados, from the bird’s eye perspective of the staff at tech giants, Thought Crime and porn have much in common: both have large user bases that the company finds embarrassing, both face repeated calls from outsiders to ban said user base completely, and both are seen by many as an inherently unsavory, or even criminal bunch.

If Tumblr goes the way of MySpace because of this new move, Twitter will be much less likely to forever ban every troll and pepe on Twitter.

So, let us pray for hard times at Tumblr. And remember, no matter what, one day the powers that be really can just pull the plug—just ask BoobsAreCool.Tumblr.com.

Does this count as “community service?” I suppose it’s more fun than volunteering for a neighborhood clean-up day, visiting seniors or tutoring disadvantaged youths.

“Another LGBT-oriented site, The Advocate, went further, pointing out that many are worried that “the new guidelines would lead to a targeted erasure of LGBTQ content.”

“They are trying to disappear us,” tweeted LGBTQ activist Anthony Oliveira, which The Advocate says alludes “to the larger trend of queer erasure happening at the behest of the Trump administration.”

    TUMBLR = PORN HUB.

Tumbler is basically a porno site. White women as sex objects.

Remember, there are 2 permissible restraints on speech: porno and incitement to violence.

So I am glad Tumblr is finally cleaning up.

  5. Whitewolf says:

If they want Tumblr to be seen as more than just a porn repository then it’s not such a bad move. Maybe the porn crowd weren’t financially viable so cleaning up the adult content is an attempt to target a different demographic. Two weeks notice is a pretty short though.

  6. The Supreme Court erred when it (sort of) equated pornography with speech. Ironically, porn has become ubiquitous whereas political speech is getting criminalized (see: ‘hate speech’, ‘antisemitism’.)

Speech (especially political speech) must be protected. But crotch shots? I don’t think so. This porno purge qualifies as a true non-emergency.

The world is awash with porn.

    Let the voyeurs go elsewhere.

Anyone who has spent ten years furiously searching for and uploading this material to Tumblr (or any site), as a hobby, is overdue for a shock / wake-up call / life-reevaluation moment. Get out of the muck. The tragic, pathetic muck-world of degeneracy.

Safe spaces for prostitution. So progressive and woke!

Craigslist ended their personals, amidst which were impossible to regulate instances of solicitation for prostitution. The impetus is federal legislation which makes any social media site financially liable for hosting users who are engaging in prostitution and other sex-related offenses on the site.

    So… no safe space.

  15. What is porn ?
The Pompeï excavations began, I think, in the second half of the 19th century.
The porn from Roman daily life was put into a seperate museum, closed to the public until recently, I believe.

The small Pompei brothel one could visit, when I was in Pompeï in 1975 or so.
Working space for just for or five sex workers, as the euphemism is nowadays.
Small rooms next to one another, just room for a bed, of stone.
Possible activities there were advertised in paintings above the working spaces.

When I was there it coincided with the visit of a group of USA ladies.
The guide stayed outside, on the question ‘are you not going to explain anything to us’ he answered ‘would be too embarrassing for me’.
One of the USA ladies, protesting, got the flashlight, the place was rather dark, and giggling, illuminated the advertisements.
None of them noticed my presence behind them.
The ladies were nearly as interesting as the brothel, their reactions between enthusiasm and disapproval.

Here is my porn conspiracy theory

All internet users 99% at least have an address and device unique to them. Therefore it is possible to send infomation to a user especially tailored for that person that only they will see.By now large internet organizations have sufficient data to deeply understand the unique psychological makeup of each user.
Porn, especially videos, play directly to the pain pleasure sites of the brain while they also allow sublimal messages to be sent to a persons brain.

This is not good at all

The ability of companies like google and facebook and tumblr including givernmemts must be nailed down chop chop.

    Incitement must end in 2019.

The internet is like a growing child and it is a new learning curve for all.Well this could be one of those lessons.
Mass media when observed by all as one true fact ,in other words a book has the same message for all is fine because it becomes impossible to say more than one message.
The internet on the other hand is no such thing,as it is possible to send a different story to each person

That is NOT GOOD AT ALL

Just imagine we all read this article on our devices, one on one and what we read is different from the guy next door.Who is checking?
Comments sections can differ from person to person.
Infomation can be weaponized and turned into a deadly reality.

    I have a saying i made up

“All conspiracy theories have a grain of truth in them and a kilogram of lies. But it is grains that flow in the hourglass, for time reveals all truths.”

now i will add to this

  20. @Rational

Funny, there is nothing in the first amendment excepting “porno and incitement to violence.”

Okay, beyond the FA, let us look at the natural right to speak one’s mind, communicate ideas, and, yes, disseminate information which others might find objectionable. That natural right is not cabined by the fears of puritanical progressives.

White women have free agency. Perhaps the parents of white women should better inculcate the values of chastity, modesty, and probity. Perhaps the parents of white women should do a better job of teaching them that bedding an alpha stud is a dead end proposition unless that alpha stud is not on a public payroll and is not part of the crony-capitalist class and would never wear the uniform of Caesar and who is prepared to offer his hand in marriage to the their daughter.

Such white women, I submit, would never submit to the inducements offered by a Hugh Hefner or the narcissistic temptations of a Tumblr.

White men also have free agency. White men do not have to applaud serial adulterers who have multiple failed marriages and who patronize porn stars and later prevaricate about paying hush money to them.

Both white men and white women must, if the white race and civilization are to survive, and thrive, reject collectivism and weak, pathetic appeals for a strong-man to save them. No restrictions on speech are going to save the day.

  21. Talha says:

Some Muslims males definitely fit this profile which is why I think it’s a great thing anytime that on-demand porn is getting scuttled – it’s making monkeys out of too many men in our Ummah who can’t seem to control themselves and it’s destroying our families.

Though…we’re not at the stage of suggesting pimping out our wives during our religious celebrations:

  22. Porn will find a way. It will always have rich supporters, and insincere enemies.
Religious and Political dissenters have cruel and remorseless enemies that will stop at nothing to destroy them.

  23. @mark green

Those who so cavalierly dispense with the protection of others’ speech deserve no protection for their speech.

You shouldn’t have the power to censor nor should I. To quote James Bond in the penultimate scene with General Gogol in For Your Eyes Only, “that’s détente, comrade, you don’t have it and I don’t have it.”

The progressive butchering of the ambit of speech and expression to be protected by the FA should be ridiculed as the language of the amendment does not admit of any limitation to just political speech.

Robert Bork was a progressive piece of shit and his views on the FA should be held in disdain.

Perhaps it would be best if the site just disappears, while allowing users to recover content?

I do and have since I was hearing of it. It is easy, simply avoid it.

Although, among the other news of the U.S.A. net creeps (Alphabet subs Google and Utub, Facebook, the Twit, etc.) banning people whose opinions they don’t like all over the place, it is impossible to see it as on the same level as Tumblr banning certain forms of sleaze some truly objectionable.

From my reading, Tumblr was already very politically biased, so why is their removing porn the sticking point?

It’s not that they’re Muslim it’s that they’re middle eastern. A large number of men from the region consider women as third class citizens. That’s just for their own middle eastern Muslim women. Western women are rated lower than that.

There’s a video online of some savages known as Kurds bashing to death some young woman from their own village. She supposedly got romantic with someone from a nearby village. This is how they treat their own women. Maybe only a small minority would go that far but they really do consider women just as property in that part of the world.

No matter how much ‘muh degeneracy’ is prevalent in Islamic lands, and surely there is (again refer para one), it cannot hold a candle to the western lands.

Look, it’s all fun blaming the Jews and laughing at Afghans participating in Bacha Bazi until you realize time’s running out and you better figure something out…because the train tracks are out ahead for YOUR society.

the slimy perverted leering they get from ALL muslim males

Good for them, they should be upset. Muslim men have no right to stare with lust at women of any background – the Qur’an is quite clear:
“Tell the believing men to lower their gaze and guard their private parts: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.” (24:30)

If you want to make leering by Muslim men a punishable offence, you have my blessing. God does not tolerate it, neither should you. Let’s make it happen:
    -Leering = ticket/fine
    -Cat-calling = jail time
-Any physical contact = public flogging

Listen, so are you down to shut down porn as much as possible or not? You know, I could even respect the following position from alt-right/White nationalists:
“White women are the queens of the world – the result of thousands of years of prime sexual selection. We don’t want a bunch of browns and blacks masturbating to our women when they show off their naughty bits online – only White men should be able to ogle each other’s daughters and wives! We should block porn going out to non-White countries!”

I mean, that would be great – shutting off White-women porn from the Muslim men that can’t control themselves*. I get the whole, freedom of blah-blah-blah in Western countries, but there’s no corollary that it applies to people outside the West. Let’s make it happen folks!

    #ShutOffPornToMuslimCountriesNOW!

    Peace.

*And they’re probably not even paying for it (from what I read about from Roosh, Western women are going at it for free online in increasing numbers)! If that’s true – that should piss people like you off and cause you to take some serious action. I mean, if you can’t be indignant about being affected in the pocketbook, what’s capitalist society coming to?

It’s like the default for the Internet is untrammeled trespass, and you can only make it remunerative and pleasant by spending tons of money to build and maintain all these fences which trespassers are constantly tearing down. The default should be in the other direction but again, not my area so I don’t know.

Your message to stop online incitement challenges the very intent of the bill of rights.. if the government sent you a paper from a court or signed by some pipsqueak regulator or a military officer which read something like => Instead of punishing everyone in the group that booed our chief, we decided to make an example of you as the representative of those who demonstrated last week in front of our office.. Please present yourself at the Gallows, 6 Wall Street before the end of the day.

Suppose then you wrote a Internet post suggesting an immediate call to riot, expressing your outrage and disbelieve, and demanding that a crowd form to stop the government from wasting your sweet ass? What then?

The problem is not incitement, because incitement will almost always fail to muster the crowd or desired action if their is no legitimate immediate outrageous cause (it works like a jury) and often there is no other way to be heard. Being able to use words to incite a crowd to act in situations of overreach settled many constitutional objections that lead to its ratification. I don’t however believe the constitutional courts have honored all that was agreed to?

The problem is not incitement, but is one of two types: type I suppression of any kind of human expression by anyone for any reason, in any form whatsoever and type II blocking any access (no matter who or what) for any reason to an expression of any kind (porn, art, literature, message or whatever) created and intentionally published by another.

Suppression has allowed government to be conducted in secret and keeping the corruptions of officials of government officials has invented the type II problem.

Incitement separated America and saved Americans from the British corporate bandits in 1776. Incitement on the web is ineffective unless there is a strong collective agreement with the message that induces rise in response. How else could assembly of persons be spontaneously arranged without words of incitement? In my opinion it is the lack of incitement and grass root mass actions that has allowed the corruption that today some people still call government.

The threat of a spontaneous mass corrective action against unjust circumstance is an important and necessary part of maintaining democracy. The power of the people to exercise and to maintain the privilege of self – determination and democracy when faced with opposition from private corporate tyranny or the tyranny of a wrongful government was at the very guts of 1st amendment<= Congress shall make no law .. abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceable to assemble, (or) to petition the Government for a redress of grievances ….. the 2nd amendment <=A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed (no matter any argument to the contrary is as American as America itself).

IMO, no one would have insisted on these words except in anticipation of the probable need to incite the masses to act from time to time. The farmers tractor riot in Washington over gas prices comes to mind.

    Is it authentic?

Good question. It is a medieval quote and – like many medieval quotes – its veracity is not determined. This is not like hadith or anything – nobody tried to authenticate whether this leader or another truly said a specific phrase – definitely a good amount of that content (as many historians will tell you) is suspect.

What contemporaneous precedent would have made him say this?

This is actually not surprising. There was a lot of drunkenness and debauchery in the Muslim lands at that time (prolific wine houses, brothels, etc.) – especially at the elite levels.* There was a lot – a lot – of spiritual reformation that had to be done to set the stage. I said once, a while back:
“All Westerners know about how the Crusaders were rolled back is one or two names; usually Sultan Salahuddin (ra).

Rarely does anybody reflect that he was a spiritual disciple of the son of the famous Sufi teacher and reformer Shaykh Abdul-Qadir Jilani (ra) and that the armies that were raised up were from a population that had been spiritually transformed through the work of the many, many students of that man. The tears, the night vigil prayers, etc. – they had to be ready to make those sacrifices.”

    Hope that helps.

    Peace.

*Sometime I’ll share how certain Muslim leaders in medieval India both protected and taxed the institution of temple prostitution/courtesans. Quite a bit of money to be made. The courtesans paid visits and danced for them ((perhaps other favors) on occasions as well.

Cheers.Interesting post.Inciting the masses to oppose unjust laws or actions is admirable but the problem is not the message but the medium. When those laws were written everyone understood the message equally and it was universal. An article written in a newspaper is the same for all.An article posted on the internet can be changed from person to person.Hence fake news.Social media is the most suspectible

For instance this message on social media could easily slide in

VOTE FOR TRUMP.HE IS A CHAMP
VOTE FOR TRUMP.HE IS A CHUMP
VOTE FOR TRUMP.HE IS A CHAMP
VOTE FOR TRUMP.HE IS A CHAMP

Whereas in the washington post print edition it would not.

The other bigger and more serious problem is the washington post print edition is printed and made in america. The message is locally produced and regulated

The internet on the other hand allows the message to not only be produced on foreign soil but the incitement or message can be made to look like it is locally produced but is in fact produced in a foreign country and the foreign incitement and interference takes advantage of this fact to subvert a countries laws and messages
This then leads to my original reason to oppose incitement on the internet.Incitement of individual persons by foreign organizations is a serious problem and is too easy. Those persons can be targeted and isolated and incited to commit crimes..
The medium needs to be held responsible for the messages coming out of its site.It needs to safeguard the users.Tumblr must be held responsible for its content right down to the very last pixel
The difference between an a and an u must be immediately picked up and regulated. It could save lives.

    Finally

You get a person.Naive or uneducated, may or may not be on meds.thinking is not 100%.A screw loose or has been radicalized.they are one of millions but in the past they could be hard to identify and target, hard to isolate and get them on there own.one on one. With device identification and data accumulation they can be picked out immediately.

Sure – if you want to accelerate the rise of “muh degeneracy”. For instance, last time I checked, none of the capitals under Muzantium allow public gay pride parades. Muslim lands might be content consumers of porn, but they don’t constitute content producers.

Some actually did some research on this:
“They found that not only do fewer Muslims have sex outside of the marriage, as a country’s Muslim population grows, the rate of premarital sex declines among all residents, even non-Muslims….Furthermore, researchers found that the religious values of a Muslim majority in a country appear to have a significant influence on the sexual norms of the wider population. The findings show that every 1 percent increase in the percentage of Muslims in a country is associated with a 2 percent decrease in the likelihood of premarital sex for all residents, regardless of their religious identity.”

    http://www.medicaldaily.com/muslims-least-likely-engage-premarital-and-extramarital-sex-study-suggests-243190

Like I’ve said before though; you guys do want you want – your future. I only ask that – if Muslims are kicked out – that you follow it up with a block of all porn traffic out from the West into the Muslim world.

See, you’re talking to someone who gets it. I know those young, innocent virginal Western women – like the ones in the article – only put on full make up and wear clothing that is barely able to hold them in to share with their girl friends and family; like uncles and brothers and perhaps grandfathers. It would never cross their minds that these pics get into the hands of strange men they don’t know. That isn’t their intention – perish the thought! So, I get it – which is why I avoid it (apart from the religious prohibition). But, you see – my lesser-evolved coreligionists don’t seem to understand that it isn’t some sort of primitive mating ritual – like when some female mammals lift up their backsides around males during estrus (look up “lordosis reflex”). You’ll have to forgive them (low IQ and all that good stuff) – but don’t let that stop you from completely blocking them for their own good. I mean, you wouldn’t give a chimpanzee a fork around an electrical socket, right?

You see; you don’t want Muslims looking at barely dressed White women and I certainly don’t want Muslims looking at barely dressed White women! But, friend, I need your support to convince other Whites.

First of all porn is filled with non-white women too, Islamic Arabo-Asian fixation on white women is far older than porn, old as Islam itself. Just a small reminder that European women were several times more expensive on Islamic slave markets, so stop being dishonest with yourself.

About porn in Islamic countries, well maybe you guys could, i don’t know, educate some IT students to block it totally, some countries are fairly successful in it.

And third, while i see monogamy as nice thing, and pre-marital sex is bad for society, it’s still nowhere near travesty like you can have in your precious Quran 65:4, which clearly allows sex with prepubescent girls, after you do nikah ofc. And before you start whining how Quran shouldn’t be interpreted on your own , i agree with you, so lets see how islamic studies info interprete it:

They may not have menstruated as yet either because of young age, or delayed menstrual discharge as it happens in the case of some women, or because of no discharge at all throughout life which, though rare, may also be the case. In any case, the waiting-period of such a woman is the same as of the woman, who has stopped menstruation. That is three months from the time divorce was pronounced.

Here, one should bear in mind the fact that according to the explanations given in the Quran the question of the waiting period arises in respect of the women with whom marriage may have been consummated, for there is no waitingperiod in case divorce is pronounced before the consummation of marriage. (Surah Al-Ahzab, Ayat 49). Therefore, making mention of the waiting-period for the girls who have not yet menstruated, clearly proves that it is not only permissible to give away the girl in marriage at this age but it is also permissible for the husband to consummate marriage with her. Now, obviously no Muslim has the right to forbid a thing which the Quran has held as permissible.

And pretty much all other tafsirs tend to be in line with this opinion.

It was a good comment. It was a valiant effort but probably a bad idea to respond to people who came back with “But Muslims are extra-degenerate!” as if they were arguing in good faith, though, who knows, you might have gotten some of them to think a bit (I rather doubt it, though).

    Perhaps time to leave again?

If you like, but I don’t think there’s a real problem– you were always a sane voice, in general, even with sorer provocation. I get into contrarian moods occasionally also, even in real life.

If you leave UR probably a better reason is because you have better thinks to do with your life. I’m preparing a paper right now, for instance, or would be if I wasn’t writing this comment, after which I’ll get off here and do it.

I’m talking about Hindu temple prostitution under Ali Khalji and such

Ah, that makes sense. I thought the other had earlier roots but I’m not well enough read on the period to have a worthwhile discussion.

Thanks for responding, it’s always good to hear from you.

USA got a bit more civilized Muslims, but average Muslim immigrant is better represented in Europe, and you’re going to get more of that type soon, now when they got foothold, same was with France for example. Plus those elections were 18 years ago, as far i see in news about USA, Democrats got some Muslims to represent them in Congress.

Because, as we all know, video games and pornography are directly correlated with crime rates…even though crime rates have been on a decades long decline as both mediums have exploded in popularity. Reading through some of this makes it clear to me how you lost (and in the process lost the country): you turned off the youth and drove them into SJW hands with excessive fundamentalism and obsession over issues of trivial importance (nudity) while ignoring issues of grave concern (demographic change via immigration). Boomers were truly the worst generation.

So I don’t see the reason to keep bringing the conversation in this direction; if I kept on begging to stay, I would understand. Otherwise it’s a distraction, which is fine, but call it for what it is.

Now, that still doesn’t solve the initial issue; are people here supporting on-demand porn in the West or is stopping it a good thing? And, is it consistent to support it but complain about moral degeneracy?

Why wouldn’t I just stick around to put a stop to degeneracy in the West on my own terms? Who says Muslims are ones to run away from a good challenge?

That’s the interesting bit. Google were making noises about cleaning up porn on Blogger a while back and they backed down real quick when the homos and trannies complained. If Tumblr gets away with this it will be just about the first time any corporation has successfully stood up to the LGBT mob.

Look, the West can kick out every Muslim back to Muslim lands – fine and dandy. How is that going to stop “muh degeneracy”?

It will not stop it totally, but it would be one step in right direction.

I’m afraid you’ve got it backwards. We’re infecting Muslims with degeneracy. We’re the source of this particular evil.

There are more muslims in the west who side with the anti-smut constituency than not. You’re not likely to affect their departure, so why not form a limited coalition with them on a platform of social conservativism?

I’ve been thinking along those lines for a while now. To defeat the evils of liberalism – feminism, porn, sexual deviance – we need reliable allies. Muslims would be very reliable allies on these issues. Very reliable, because they are well aware of the reality of the danger.

It’s so cute how you think you’re so clever, like many of the Jews on this forum you tend to leave out half the story.

“Sure – if you want to accelerate the rise of “muh degeneracy”. For instance, last time I checked, none of the capitals under Muzantium allow public gay pride parades.

Last I checked, no one in the US allows the throwing of homosexuals off of roofs, honor killings, and genital mutilation; all forms of degeneracy the US and the West do not need. When I was in Saudi Arabia, I was told by members of their armed forces through their broken English that “women are for babies, men are for pleasure”. So spare us the moral supremacy crap, mmmk? The Muslim world suppresses sexual depravity simply by perpetrating equally depraved forms of deterrence.

As for the rest of the degeneracy committed in the West – look to the racial and ethnic makeup of these degenerates. Once those groups are returned to their places of origin, the West returns to the least degenerate place in the world.

“Muslim lands might be content consumers of porn, but they don’t constitute content producers.”

If the West were to repatriate ashkenazis it would likely be honest in making the same claim.

“if Muslims are kicked out – that you follow it up with a block of all porn traffic out from the West into the Muslim world. ”

How about you block it out yourselves – no one is forcing you to search for “milky white boobies” on a search engine. You see, if you were to accept some responsibility for yourselves, you might not harbor so much resentment as a group.

“See, you’re talking to someone who gets it.”

Hardly. You speak as if importing Muslims is some sort of benefit to the West. It isn’t. Muslims are not coming here to bring their morality and wisdom, they come here to leech, exploit our high trust society, and ultimately seek to dominate it, similar to the Chinese, Mestizos, Jews, and the rest.

European whites deserve a place of their own, just as Muslims and the rest do, separate from each other. You, just like the rest of the brown and yellow supremacists, probably realize this on some level, but envy consumes your kind and draws you here. But since you can’t actually be us your envy will insist that you attempt to destroy us. Before you protest, remember that you are here, in this country, in body or by proxy with your presence at this American website. It’s not the other way around. That it the reality.

  105. As I understand it, Tumblr’s one of those ‘free’ services – where content created by subscribers is hosted at no cost to the provider.

Usually the other side of the transaction for ‘free’ services, is that users hand over vast amounts of information – which the platform provider hawks to advertisers. That’s a one-off: once you’ve given them your data, you have no further value to them (generating traffic? Pfft. Generating ad-clicks? Pshaw).

In general the platform provider also fails to adequately secure their client data, and their incompetence is often exploited by hackers (this may be a feature rather than a bug; perhaps there are tacit agreements).

But let’s examine the logic of the claim that all this content will be ‘lost’ or must be downloaded.

Did the content creators not upload the content from a repository of their own?

(Answer: yes, of course, you fucking idiot – even if they were streaming live video, the video is generated on a device on the ‘creator’ side of the internet connection)

    .

Now let’s examine why anyone’s business model is critically reliant on ‘free’ content hosting/promotion/distribution.

Given that it costs pennies per day to run your own server, it’s unclear why a half-decent pornographer would be so reliant on a ‘free’ service.

As an example: although I’m not a pornographer (sadly), I have a couple of private servers – one with a decent amount of storage that I use to hold data, and a smaller, SSD-based on that hosts applications (with a decent internet connection, working directly on the SSD-based server using a VNC-based remote desktop is barely distinguishable from working on my actual desktop).

    • The large capacity server one has 2TB dedicated storage and a further 12TB of ‘accessible’ storage; it runs off 6 i5 cores, 16GB RAM; it has unlimited bandwidth. It costs me $140/yr and is not a particularly good deal anymore (it was a good deal 5 years ago when I shifted to that server);

    • the SSD-based one only has 200GB of storage, 8 i5 cores, 64GB RAM, and unlimited bandwidth; it costs US$28/month (and is also not particularly good value: if AMZN or Google weren’t both untrustworthy I would move everything to AWS or GCP – I already use AWS to get images human-classified by a ‘Mechanical Turk’ to use as inputs into ML/DL remote sensing apps).

So… the question asks itself: how bad of a pornographer do you have to be, for ~$500 of server hosting costs to be a death sentence for your business?

I guess that furnishing your content to Tumblr might cause additional traffic, or perhaps there’s some ad-revenue-sharing setup… but how is that different from ‘proper’ porn sites?

Then it’s time for Republicans to begin ditching the anti-Islam rhetoric and find common ground with inherently republican muslims. Social conservativism as well as an anti-interventionist platform (which was the deciding factor in Trump’s victory) would be excellent positions from which to appeal to them. Protecting porn is not high on my freedom of expression issues.

I don’t see why it ought to be high on anyone’s list. Freedom of expression as a concept, to me, deals with political speech.

The U.S. Supreme Court waffled on this for years, producing along the way that famous line “I know it when I see it.”

Interesting tidbits on the case (1964) that produced that oft-quoted line: All the courts in Ohio had upheld a ban on a certain 1958 French film, a ban which was overturned by the Supreme Court 6-3. Chief Justice Earl Warren, a boogeyman of sorts for some on the Right, was in the minority, that is, in favor of states being able to define and regulate (ban) pornography. The majority was split between absolutists asserting no censorship of any content (what we know today), and those who were in favor of bans on ‘hard-core pornography’ but who concluded that this particular film in question did not meet the standards of obscenity (a standard described, problematically, by one justice as “I know it when I see it”).

Judges in the minority (in favor of the ban): Warren [19th-century Scandinavian ancestry], Harlan [colonial-stock Protestant, northern Presbyterian], Clark [colonial-stock Protestant, southern Presbyterian].

1964 was, of course, a different world:

The first computer-to-computer message was still years away; general availability of what would become the Internet was decades away; fast-enough speeds to permit easy viewing of massive amounts of sexual content anytime and anywhere (i.e., via smartphone) was something then close to a half-century away and so impossible to predict (except possibly by futurists, and even they would have just been speculating).

People today casually speak of the Supreme Court’s endorsement of massive amounts of near-absolutely-unregulated Internet pornography by saying “they decided it cannot be defined so we have to err on the side of free speech,” but these cases in the 1960s, 1970s, and so on, were from such a different era that it can hardly even apply. Like regulations on bows-and-arrows in an age of machine guns.

So to say it more directly: Looking back on these kinds of cases, the spirit in which they were made has really been made obsolete by the rise of the Internet. Here we are locked in, stuck in muck-world due to the oppressiveness of legal precedent that is arguably irrelevant (i.e., the world has changed too much re: Pornography). How many of the justices on these cases in the 1960s, 1970s, would have voted for the sacred and inviolable right to unlimited Internet porn?

If you look at the video I posted earlier about the British working class women in the earlier part of the last century; this was not something foreign. throwing of homosexuals off of roofs

This happens under Daesh (and I think possibly the Taliban, though I think they went for pulling a a brick wall down on them). This is hardly universal. Stopping gay pride parades does not entail throwing them off a roof – it’s not an either or scenario. Lebanon, Turkey, Jordan stop it – no one is tossed.

    honor killings

No place for this in the Shariah – so, good to keep it out of the West.

    genital mutilation

No place for this in the Shariah – so, good to keep it out of the West.

The Muslim world suppresses sexual depravity simply by perpetrating equally depraved forms of deterrence.

We’re only interested in suppressing public sexual depravity – if some guy wants to have homosexual incest with his brother, that’s not my business. He can answer to God.

Totally down for this and will definitely advocate this fully…if I get booted out of the West when it’ll actually make a difference. For now, since I’m here, I’m concerned about policies here and where I can actually vote for one thing or another.

if you were to accept some responsibility for yourselves

I have been. It’s totally Muslim’s fault for the sorry state they are in and their porn addictions – totally against our religious precepts. Now, that being the case, do you support blocking porn going out into the Muslim world or are you cool with those guys fapping to your women?

they come here to leech, exploit our high trust society

Big time. Many, many Muslim immigrants came for material gain and to take advantage of the freedom from religion/culture – it’s pretty shameful, but it’s the honest truth and it shows in how many conduct themselves. If we aren’t providing a benefit to the societies we live in, we definitely deserve to be kicked out; 100% agree – this is a metaphysical issue.

European whites deserve a place of their own

Will totally vote for a secession of Whitekanda if it comes up in the polls in the US. I support you guys actually – as long as you make Islam illegal in your White ethno-nationalist state, this is non-negotiable.

Access to porn is far too easy online(for kids too), and there should be a move to remove most porn on the net, which should be accessed only by adults.

Also, even in Tumblr doesn’t allow porn, there are surely many sites that do allow such. Because there are so many such sites, there is no need for Tumblr to allow porn. This goes for Twitter too.

Now, Twitter banning Jared Taylor made no sense, and it’s that stuff that is truly alarming but it’s about shutting down ideas and, worse, based on lies. Twitter, under ADL, pressure said Taylor was associated with some violent group.

We need to focus on free speech. No society suffered from lack of free speech because porn wasn’t allowed in certain venues. The golden age of free speech in the US was from mid 60s to mid 80s when porn wasn’t allowed on tv and most movies.

My take is that what we need in the West is a return to the cultural centrality of beauty, but with this grounded in such a way that there are safeguards against a collapse into total sexual degeneracy. It is will not be easy to bring this about, but I think it is necessary. Most of the “achievements” of Western civilization have been considerably grounded in aesthetics (and here I include the bulk even of “scientific” achievements) but aesthetics can never be entirely sundered from human aesthetics, which can never be entirely sundered from human eroticism.

Actually in Islam you are allowed 4 wives at a time (divorce is at your whim), plus all the slave girls you can afford. Tons of girls from Europe, the Caucasus and other regions ended up in the slave markets of the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa.

In Shia Islam you are even allowed very short term temporary “marriages”:

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/iran-blog/2012/mar/06/iran-temporary-marriage-law-sigheh

Sex outside marriage is a crime in Iran punishable by 100 lashes or, in the case of adultery, potentially a sentence of death by stoning. However, a man and a woman can marry for a fixed period of time after performing specific religious rituals, in a practice called sigheh. The marriage can last for a few minutes up to several years without need to be officially registered. The man can end the sigheh almost at any time

Since white USA hardly has any history, maybe therefore an article about ‘pulling the plug’.
Ideological warfare is as old as the world, no internet is needed.
Modern techniques now show how megalithic menhirs in France already were used for propaganda.
In 17th century Holland the printed pamphlet was the usual way for dissidents to get attention.
Of course, printers were persecuted, presses were seized.
But even under WWII German occupation printed underground newspapers existed.
How, in this world, with printers, scanners and copiers all over the place, the plug could be pulled, an enigma to me.
A very powerful weapon in the struggle in E Europe against the USSR was the fax, in minutes messages and lists were sent around the whole world.

I do not agree with you that the problem is the media: the media is the most advanced form of communication the world has yet to conceive and implement and it is getting better every minute.

I think the problem is the lack of democratic control over the public and private use of the infra structure that supports the various media. Nations will be nations, leaders want to be in control the masses, and the private criminal, moral and profit making organization all want leaders in control of the masses to order the masses to accord with their special interest. But the words of Ahmadinejad should be the global rule: “every voice (type I) should be heard (type II)”. Private parties should be able to force every, and any, court in the world to enforce Ahmadinejad’s rule making violators liable to compensate for all failures big and small of Ahmadinejad’s rule.

A global registration should be required to post on a media and every media should be required to register as a media and every party associated to any message (corporation, media content designer, psychologist, military person, whatever and whoever) should be required to be named and fully and accurately referenced in any content presented in any media. All control points on infra structure that a media traverses from its source to its destination should be identified as reference somewhere within the content expressed in each media. Essentially each content should carry what amounts to an ISBN number. Without a photo id and a valid, reachable address no content should be allowed on any media and no media should be allowed on any infra structure that supports a media. Fake news might continue, false advertisement might continue, government lies might continue, but its perpetrators could at least be identified.

In the old days, I would have argued against registration, but until the position of every person and entity is fully exposed in plain view no one is safe from deceit. Only when an expression or publication is accurately identified to its source(s), can one reasonably assess the relative value each of the elements expressed as content might mean (type I), but of course if the infra structure or the media it supports not allow type I expression to be accessed (type II), then the communication is not democratic.

Masses are required to not only establish but also to maintain and enforce democracy because government is the antithesis of democracy. Government is the antithesis of human rights. The very nature of leaders is to use government to throttle democratic options, to control assets, to stratify into classes quality of life and to monitor production efficiency within their boundary defined jurisdiction.

The problem is infra structure is gated and made inaccessible to most people. ..that provides media tan advantaged opportunity to use, abuse, control and regulate the societies it preaches to.

As long as media is in private hands (6 owners of 92% of media worldwide); and monopoly powered bigger stronger, richer-than-most-governments corporations like Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and similar organizations around the world, are allowed to gate(as in ticket) either type I expression of speech or type II denial of access to a type I expression or publication, the Internet will remain a tool of the Oligarch and societies will be designed by contractors paid by Oligarchs. Its not the media that needs to be democratized its the infra structure that supports the media.

There is a simpler solution, at least here in the USA. In order for Facebook, and other public social sites to be covered under First Amendment protections, and to receive release from liability for statements posted by users of these public social sites, they must be treated as “public utilities”, who are required to accept content from ALL users–no exception. Just as telephone companies are required to service all customers and are NOT permitted to censor speech on its lines, public social sites should be bound by the same rules. THIS is what the First Amendment is all about…
As it stands now, public social sites want it “both ways”–the ability to censor ideas that do not conform to their owners’ beliefs, while hiding behind the First Amendment when it is convenient for them…

If a man cannot reasonably get married in a society by his late teens or early twenties, then there is something gone wrong with that society.

    The Prophet (pbuh) advised:
“O young men, whoever among you can afford it, let him get married, for it is more effective in lowering the gaze and guarding one’s chastity. And whoever cannot afford it should fast, for it will be a shield for him.” – reported in Bukhari

Plenty of the brothers I lived with in UCLA (especially the grad students) were able to wait for marriage into their late twenties. I got married at 24 and my wife was still an undergrad. Where there is a will, there is a way. I was also fasting a lot – a lot – to keep my animal desires in check. I was fasting every other day ( which is called the fast of David [pbuh]) so I know it can be done.

People today casually speak of the Supreme Court’s endorsement of massive amounts of near-absolutely-unregulated Internet pornography by saying “they decided it cannot be defined so we have to err on the side of free speech,” but these cases in the 1960s, 1970s, and so on, were from such a different era that it can hardly even apply

Agreed. It’s also fairly certain that many (probably most) of those who were in favor of liberalising or abolishing censorship in 1964 assumed that pornography would remain pretty much as it was then. At that time that meant mostly girlie magazines (which generally did not even show full nudity) and nudie movies (very very tame by later standards). Hardcore porn was uncommon and deviant porn was very rare indeed. Even the hardcore porn of that era was mild by today’s standards.

The pornographers knew that once censorship disappeared they were going to flood the country with truly sick and extreme material but no-one else knew that.

As always people failed to appreciate that what they were seeing then was just the thin end of the wedge. Anyone who suggested it was a slippery slope would have been ridiculed. Slippery slope arguments always get ridiculed, and they always turn out to be true.

I don’t think you can ever eliminate porn entirely but that doesn’t matter. If you can force it back underground so that it’s almost impossible to access and the only people who can find it are those who are incredibly determined to do so then it’s not going to do any great harm. It’s like sexual deviants. When they were in the closet they did comparatively little harm.

Tumblr, before it was purchased by Yahoo and then Verizon, was this wonderful micro-blog platform. Instead of linking people together merely because they went to the same high school or are “friends” mentioning each others’ names, Tumblr links people together by hashtag topics, sort of like Twitter does. But Tumblr has so many intelligent artistic people and the platform has the ability to present high resolution photos, GIFS, movies, and long texts.

Tumblr was a haven for SJW’s, porn and fan blogs, true. But it was also a forum for Libertarians, dissidents and those who wanted to view historical photos and information concerning the Third Reich, the Romanovs and other historical European oriented topics. Many of those blogs were cut down and terminated immediately after the election of Trump.

Tumblr was the intelligent person’s blog site. The SJW’s were supreme jerks there, but the porn had soul somehow, and the Tumblrs who posted about European issues were intelligent young people just typing away not worried about censorship.

Totally agree. I have told people exactly this plenty of times – especially using the NRA as a model – this is verbatim from my suggestions on how to go about expelling Muslims (at least in the US):

“If you feel strongly about this, I suggest getting with your congressmen/senators and proposing legislation to add amendments to the Constitution to make exceptions to the religion-neutral clauses to make exceptions for Islam and Muslims. A super-majority will likely be required. A good strategy would be to come up with a strong single-issue advocacy group. Once this initial step is accomplished, the doors will be open legally for; 1) stripping Muslims of citizenship, 2) excluding them from certain areas of influence, 3) consigning and forcing them into certain regions/areas/locales or 4) expelling them to Muslim lands (with or without compensation).

Come up with a single-issue organization that votes as a bloc on only one thing; legal relocation of Muslims from the West – forget abortion, foreign policy, economic trade pacts, welfare, etc. Make every representative know they will be graded and publicly made known. I would suggest working with the NRA (the preeminent one-issue group) to get tips on how to proceed – you will likely have a good amount of overlap:

    https://www.nrapvf.org/grades/

When I receive my official Federal notice in the mail that I am no longer considered a citizen and have a certain number of days to leave; I will start getting my finances in gear, sell my property, etc. because I am obligated by the sacred law to obey the legal canon of my host country.”

It’s a way better outlet than whining online.

I don’t really think much about it, to be honest, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the nihilist in me deep down believes that nothing truly matters in the long run, so I just assume that the living will find some way to come to terms with their misfortunes, no matter how enormous they might seem; as for the dead, well they’ve got it easy.

Secondly, I’m generally more interested in promoting policies that will reduce the likelihood of pain and suffering than I am in dreaming up metaphysical coping mechanisms for pain and suffering that have already occurred. As they say, an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure. But if we’re going to do metaphysical make-believe, then sheesh, surely human beings can come up with something better than Islam, dontcha think?

  186. @Talha

Free your mind, Talha. I know how trite that advice sounds, but if you actually succeed, I know you’ll be thanking me.

Failing that, when the Sharia courts come for me, could you at least step in and remind them that you thought my position fair? I’m not expecting to skate – rules is rules – but if I could get a quick, clean death, that’d be sweet.

To me it’s that old slippery slope argument that nags me about porn being nixed. Porn isn’t the only “speech” Tumblr has nixed. While nixing porn seems OK and desireable even, after all it is (((Ewe))), Tumblr has also previously come after other free speech on topics they don’t like. For example, Tumblr notoriously terminated a certain account named “Putschgirl” which posted purely historical photos, some of which were quite rare, and had interesting discussions of the personal lives of the main characters from the Third Reich, heavily focusing on AH (see, I can’t even say his name for fear of shame and opprobrium being heaped upon me for we shall not speak of that person in a normal light). Tumblr’s thought police were saying that one can’t rationally discuss the Third Reich and sent an explanatory email terminating that account saying it “promoted violence”, yet (((they))) are happy when (((Folks))) fund raise off of AH’s name and images of the violent side of the Third Reich – that’s OK.

So you can Pffft nixing porn all you want, but it’s indicative of a society willing to shut down all kinds of thoughts, even Jimmy Carter’s lusting in his heart I suppose.

While many of you don’t even know what Tumblr is, I assure you it is much much more than porn.

Yup. It is estimated, in a couple billion years, Earth is set to become part of our expanding star. Couple billion years after that, the Andromeda Nebula crashes into our own and will eventually from some massive black hole.

So…what’s the big deal about a bunch of hominids on some remote planet shuffling around deck chairs on the Titanic. Likely why atheists off themselves in higher rates than anyone else and why most can’t be bothered to have more than one kid – if any. On top of that – you might be an outlier in all this, because the majority of atheists side on the Left-liberal/SJW spectrum of things.

I’ve asked a few atheists this before and never received a satisfactory answer:
You are a father/grandfather and your 7-year old child is dying of brain cancer. There is no hope even after months of pain and misery and there is about a month more to go in pain and misery before the child dies. The child looks to you for some words; do you tell the child what you really believe, or do you borrow from our myths or do you go all hardcore gansta and ‘sucks-to-be-you-bruh’?

There is no “either/or” dichotomy at play. My spiritual teacher is a high-level doctor at a university and teaches physicians in training.

something better than Islam, dontcha think?

If I thought that, then I would be that instead of Muslim. You’ll have to pardon me; I have a difficult time taking criticism of Islamic theological positions from someone who posits that we believe in a “sky god” – which would be kufr by every possible standard.

    Free your mind

Appreciate it. I’ve listened to plenty of atheists debates and read into people like Nietzsche (who were frankly way more formidable than the glib atheist-evangelists of today) and it simply doesn’t appeal to me. I honestly can’t think of something more restrictive than the thought that I don’t have a soul and that every decision I’ve ever made has always been only an illusion of choice when it is really just a biological algorithm (processing inputs) running against my genetic OS that I had zero control over.

Plus – trust me – you don’t want me to apostate. The chances of me turning out to be some kind of reverse-Janissary based ally of you is practically nil. Most of our apostates become some of the most degenerate SJW freaks around – cases in point:

These people will be the most shrill and fight tooth and nail if you want to expel them as non-whites from the West to Muslim countries as compared to my reaction; “Well, that was a nice few decades! Honey, let’s pack it up for Marrakesh/Madinah/Amman/Selangor.”

I mean you could keep them. Actually, you should keep them – they will help with “muh degeneracy” that you don’t seem to care much about:

when the Sharia courts come for me

If you’ve read what I’ve been posting, then you’ll know that Muslim scholars wanted to keep non-Muslims from clogging our courts as much as possible. That’s why you have your own courts. And as far as I’m concerned, arrangements can be made to have non-Muslim jurisdictions/enclaves where you can have all the gay pride parades and drunken orgies with your grandparents in your public parks – just keep it out of Muslim areas and shared spaces. The only time you’d end up in a Shariah court is if you try to do something really stupid like try to marry a Muslim woman or publicly blaspheme God or His Messengers (pbut).

    quick, clean death

We’ve never been into the burn-at-the-stake thing, but I mean, if you really, really insist on wanting to become one with the void for no good reason, why don’t you just take a shotgun to your own face without involving Muslims.

Couple billion years after that, the Andromeda Nebula crashes into our own and will eventually from some massive black hole.

Andromeda galaxy, but yeah. Of course, the odds are minute that even two stars out of the combined trillion or so would collide, so if humans (or whatever we might become by then) haven’t found a way to leave the Milky Way by that time, we’ll still survive.

As for the sun snuffing out life on earth, I predict we’ll have fled for greener pastures well before that happens.

So…what’s the big deal about a bunch of hominids on some remote planet shuffling around deck chairs on the Titanic.

There’s no “big deal” about it really. It’s just nice to enjoy life while you’re alive. Do what you want, not what some dopey desert fables tell you you must.

(who were frankly way more formidable than the glib atheist-evangelists of today)

Does “glib” mean “wiped the floor with my side rhetorically, but I’m gonna pretend we held our own cos life would seem terrifyingly meaningless if I didn’t”?

The only time you’d end up in a Shariah court is if you try to do something really stupid like try to marry a Muslim woman or publicly blaspheme God or His Messengers (pbut).

Oh phew. For a while there, I was thinking I might really be in trouble.

I’ve asked a few atheists this before and never received a satisfactory answer:

Really, no atheist has ever answered something like, “I’d lie through my teeth to make the poor kid feel better about it all”? Well let me be the first: “I’d lie through my teeth to make the poor kid feel better about it all!”

Anyway though, I’m technically not an ‘atheist’. I ‘practice faith’ in some kind of spiritual aspect to existence, perhaps something distantly like a ‘god’ figure, but without any of the nasty features shared by creepy asshole gods like Allah or Jehovah. Since we’re all just making it up anyway, it’s pretty easy to do this.

Of course, practicing faith, as I understand it, is very different to saying I believe in this entity with anything approaching the certainty I have that, say, 2 + 2 = 4. I’m just taking advantage of the brain’s phenomenal capacity to delude itself. If it that makes the journey through life more pleasant, why the hell not? Whether whatever I’m conjuring up is “true” or not is a distant concern.

wiped the floor with my side rhetorically

No because Imam Ghazali (ra) already body slammed them centuries ago.

    life would seem terrifyingly meaningless

Well, yeah – that’s what I was saying. Life seems pretty meaningless. I mean, if it works for you, that’s cool – to each his own.

help a fellow human see the light.

You’re offering me a void with nothing staring back. Look, I’m game to convert; if you have something better to offer than what Allah (swt) has on the table, I’m yours.

Lol, sounds like a cool kinda chick.

Like I said, you can have them. My wife’s a convert and wrapping up her studies to get her certification in the Hanafi school, so we’ll keep cool women like her. One type of woman leads to a more pozzed society and one helps turn the tide – you figure out which kind of society you first want, then you can figure the kind of women that will help constitute it. Of course, as I’ve mentioned before those apostates don’t really end up marrying and having kids (possibly because they are too busy watching porn and smoking weed).

You know – a lot of this really comes down to something as simple as the “Ant and the Grasshopper”; grasshopper had a lot of fun…until he didn’t.

Really, no atheist has ever answered something like

Yeah, they’ve avoided the question completely – possibly due to cognitive dissonance.

    I’d lie through my teeth

I figured. When the SHTF and you have to deal with the bleakness of reality, having a spiritual narrative to fall back on helps – it’s innate human nature.

some kind of spiritual aspect to existence

OK cool – so you’re an agnostic – I can respect that.

    Allah or Jehovah

It’s a very simple premise; either you believe God has a right to ask His creations obey Him or you don’t. Now you can believe He doesn’t, but if He asserts that He does – who exactly do you think wins that argument?

saying I believe in this entity with anything approaching the certainty I have that, say, 2 + 2 = 4

Technically, if one is a hyper-skeptic, one can doubt anything. I mean, you can’t prove to me that I wasn’t actually someone else until yesterday and all of my memories were implanted in last night’s sleep and I just got inserted into a new family and life “Total Recall” style.

Ideally one should get to the point of conviction in God’s existence as much as one is sure about their own.

If it that makes the journey through life more pleasant, why the hell not?

Seems you’re cool with making up myths to feel better about lack of existential purpose – just not the myths others have on offer. Hey, I’m fine either way – like I said; if you’re right good for you, if I’m right good for me – it’s all Pascal’s wager…

    Peace.

    Good points.

Re #1, you’d probably get agreement from most American jurists through our history that obscenity is not the same as political speech. “Fanny Hill” for instance was banned in Massachusetts in the 1820s and not unbanned until the 1960s. Re #2, well, you know my opinion on that. Though I’m generally pretty libertarian as a matter of practical policy.

Re #3, yeah, that was your original point and it was a good one and I agree. Though possibly you could salvage some dignity for the author of this article by arguing he was merely trying to point out the same can be done to other forms of expression regarded by society at large, though wrongly, as quite as bad as pornography, and so we who may tend to express ourselves in these suspected ways should be prepared. I’m not sure how well that holds up but I like to have a good opinion of people, so it’s my interpretation at present.

  200. I think sites should clear all non-professional users’ content, doing it at regular intervals, not just the red-light content. They should let ordinary people express political views freely, erasing their posts after giving visitors a briefer chance to read or bypass the Average Joes’ commentary, while the professional stuff lingers. They should do it for privacy reasons.

Ordinary people’s non-professionally-produced content should—after a certain period of time elapses—just be cleared en mass. Professional writers, contracting with companies to produce content, do it for money and / or to create a professional reputation. They benefit from PR. Most people are not expressing themselves on the internet for that reason, nor do they benefit from PR in most cases.

There should be an easy way for companies to just create a clean slate, letting the dialog go on and on without leaving an indelible trace between content cleanings from any non-professional users. Then they should strive for fairness in exposing professional political writers’ content, the content from political campaigns, news sites with opposing views and some commercial content to prolonged viewing.

Yes, probably, on anything like our current fertility and demographic trends.

  203. @Song For the Deaf

Well said. When we look at porn, we encourage and subsidize / incentivize the participants to degrade themselves.

We also encourage them to treat themselves and others as mindless objects to be used, without commitment, love, or dignity. They often render themselves less capable of a healthy loving relationship, let alone a reasonably happy marriage and family life.

I had been guilty of looking at porn in the past and I am glad that I quit. Waste of time and sometimes money, but worse than that, it’s ugly and leads nowhere good or uplifting — as romance within marriage can.

  204. @Talha

I’ll check out Witherspoon. Thank you.

  205. @anon

I’m far, far from a boomer, and don’t suffer any lack of a healthy romantic life — with my wife.

Sensible people of all ages realize how porn degrades people and makes it harder for them to sustain normal committed relationships, especially marriage.

Attacking a position because (you think that) it’s advocates are too old, isn’t any better than attacking a position because it’s expressed by someone young.

Grow up, man, get and keep a good woman and raise a family. Then we will see what you think and how very knowledgeable and impressive you are.

  206. Alas, Tumblr’s December 17, 2018 deadline after which they were going to terminate porn blogs and such, has passed. From what I can tell, they have not terminated blogs, but merely put up a warning that any given blog may have sensitive or adult content, but then the viewer is able to click a button to view that blog. I do hope that they terminate the kiddie p blogs which that ilk of “adult” is immoral, disgusting and gee, illegal?

Capitalism has won. Mass termination of Tumblr users would of course devalue the company as an asset, so they took the YouTube approach of merely putting up click through warnings.
