Argumentum ad hominem is usually characterized as a logical fallacy. But that doesn’t mean it’s not effective. Of course, if the best you can do is call your enemies losers, you better not be a bigger loser yourself. If you’re trying to dismiss your political adversaries as irrelevant, you better be more relevant than they are. And if you are trying to characterize them as ugly and unfashionable, it’s better if, unlike Jeet Heer, you don’t have a phenotype which allows critics to dismiss your arguments laughingly just by posting your picture.
CUCKSERVATIVE REVIEW’s notorious Kevin D. Williamson, who looks like Anton LaVey after he spent a month at the Golden Corral, forgot 
these truths when writing the current [September 11, 2017] cover story “The ‘N’ Word” which attempts to take down the Alt Right on the grounds that it attracts people Williamson finds icky. With the magazine’s recent trademark tin ear, its cover smears the entire Alt Right, and the concerns which it once embraced itself, as “The Little Nazis”—at precisely the moment when the Alt Left’s Antifa paramilitaries are acknowledged even by the Main Stream Media as an unprecedented threat. [Black-clad antifa members attack peaceful right-wing demonstrators in Berkeley, By Kyle Swenson, Washington Post, August 28,2017, Black-clad anarchists storm Berkeley rally, assaulting 4,By Paul Elias and Jocelyn Gecker, AP August 27, 2017] Nancy Pelosi just condemned Antifa .
In so doing, Williamson exposes the Beltway Right’ s utter refusal to acknowledge the actual realities confronting younger Americans—as opposed to its wealthy puppet-masters.
In this lengthy article containing remarkably little information or analysis but plenty of snark and virtue-signaling, Williamson stretches attending a rally to protect Robert E. Lee’s statue in Dallas TX to smear the Anarcho-Tyrannized Unite The Right rally in faraway Charlottesville VA. Mostly, this consists of him making fun of the protesters and counter-protesters who showed up to the Dallas event.
Williamson displays an element of Narrative Confusion here. The Washington Post is wailing for the fashion industry to do something because too many Unite The Right protesters were dressed in khakis and polo shirts and so looked disturbingly “normal”. And mocking the appearance of rallygoers is dangerous ground for any self-proclaimed “conservative.” Indeed, a staple of every year’s CPAC is the inevitable photo montages from self-satisfied Leftist reporters laughing about the unfashionable, fat, or simply absurd-looking attendees at the Beltway’s most important Conservatism Inc. conference [Rachel Maddow on CPAC: Conservatives Not Afraid To Fly “Freak Flag” by Glynnis MacNicol, Mediate, February 19, 2010].
The same is true of every Republican National Convention, when earnest, elderly and overwhelmingly white delegates are merrily mocked by fashionable metropolitan journalists. Conservatives, in short, are not cool. Yet essential to “respectable” American conservatism is the idea that they are somehow still in charge of this country.
As Gregory Hood put it:

This projection works both ways. Witness the recent MTV Video Music Awards, where the most famous, powerful and fashionable people in the most culturally-influential nation in the world gave awards about how they were “fighting the system”—when, really, they are the Mouthpieces of that System [The 2017 VMA’s will feature a “Best Fight Against the System” category, by Abbey White, Vox, July 26, 2017].
What Steve Sailer calls the “Party of the CEOs” is overwhelmingly Liberal, with the rhetoric of Social Justice used as a weapon to take down class rivals.
Thus, Williamson’s explanation of the Alt Right—that its members are simply losers “without prestigious jobs, solid incomes, or happy families to provide them with a sense of social status”—falls flat. “European-Americans” are despised in the Main Stream Media, economically squeezed between outsourcing, H1Bs, and mass immigration and, despite all the Conservatism Inc. happy talk about “individualism,” discriminated against by a government which rewards racial solidarity for everyone except European-Americans with no protest from Establishment Republicans. It’s not surprising the “White Death” is spreading.
Because of economic pressure, a poisonous culture, and the failure of formerly traditionalist institutions, European-Americans are in crisis.
And what is Williamson’s “conservative” response to all of this? Move to where the jobs are. And shut up.
But even credits his case too much. Because, despite it all, the archetypical Alt Right member is not a “loser,” but winners with something to lose. This is why the threat of doxing and economic punishment is so dangerous to so many—especially those who have families (unlike, apparently, Kevin D. Williamson).
We now live in an America where expressing entertaining certain opinions in public, such as the existence of only two genders, the possibility of racial differences, or the undesirability of mass immigration, immediately leads to economic ruin and physical attack.
Because MSM journalists act as commissars who enforce this absurd egalitarian creed, there is no one of any intelligence in the “Land Of The Free” who doesn’t look over his shoulder before expressing even the most banal opinion. James Watson, Jason Richwine and Brendan Eich can hardly be described as “losers,” yet they suffered in this sick society by violating elite taboos—taboos that are metastasizing so rapidly that all of us alive today are surely violating some new moral commandment which will be newly invented a few years from now.
The one who obtains “status” in this society is the one who can most effectively lie, the one who can most smoothly echo egalitarian slogans while trying to avoid their consequences.
Of course, at a certain point of sickness, this means that anyone of any “status” in this society is only there because he or she is a parasite or a liar. And such terms are the kindest names which can be used to describe Movement Conservatives, the House Negroes of the West’s anti-white ruling class.
To be in the Beltway Right, you must actively resist taking ideas seriously, thinking from first principles, or extrapolating future consequences from present events, lest you transgress those boundaries which separate the Respectable Right from the “haters.”
The late Sam Francis once described neo-conservatism as “the harmless persuasion” because it didn’t fundamentally challenge the Left. Tom Piatak extended that to include National Review founder William F. Buckley and his legacy. But since Buckley’s death, his heirs have degenerated into The Pointless Persuasion.
Thus, Williamson concedes the “longing for community” expressed by the Alt Right is “legitimate” and credits Richard Spencer for understanding the fundamental unfairness (“real or perceived”) of double standards on race. However, Williamson gives no answers to these problems. Instead, he mocks the people who Notice them. Indeed, he suggests the Alt Right’s interest in such questions is simply a matter of “style,” rather than an actual grievance.
In this, Williamson tacitly agrees with the forthrightly Cultural Marxist Left, who deny European-Americans can ever be victimized or exploited because of their inherent “privilege.” Williamson may not actually embrace the narrative of “white privilege,” but he does suggest alienated European-Americans simply need to stop being “failures not only as people but specifically as men”—presumably by quieting down, finding some job, and quietly funding their own dispossession like all the other good little consumers.
Endless quantities of ink have been spent attempting to define the “Alt Right,” mostly by reporters and academics looking to pin a label on their political opponents and pathologize them. [Kill All Normies, by Gregory Hood, American Renaissance, June 16, 2017] But the Alt Right can perhaps best be defined as “Post-conservatism,” a movement of the American Right that was born out of the failure of the Conservative Movement to conserve anything after the end of the Cold War.
It is a movement of those who understand that conservatism, and the West, face existential problems which demand addressing tough questions fearlessly:
- How can the Islamization of Europe be prevented?
- What future is there for “American Conservatism” if Texas becomes a Blue State because of mass immigration?
- Why should Americans whites continue to oppose “identity politics” when every other race of people and the entire American elite uses it as the theoretical basis of their politics?
Williamson and his fellow Respectable Rightists can offer no answers to these questions except vague mutterings about Hispanics as “natural conservatives”—something I don’t think even they really believe. They know that to think or speak seriously about what faces our civilization will cost them what little status they have.
And so the Conservatism Inc. scam goes on—the Washington Generals of American politics keep trotting out onto the court, and the farce of a real contest continues.
But fewer people are attending these silly games. The stands are empty.
And regardless of what Williamson thinks about it, the future of the American Right, if it has one, lies with those who recognize the only way to win a rigged game is not to play.

My decision to consider emigrating from the States back in the 1990s was probably percolating for a while, motivated possibly in part by American media elites who appeared to know nothing about the people or issues they were writing about. Had they experienced the genuine fear among many Whites for their personal safety and sweat equity following those odiously misnamed civil rights law of the 1960s? (BTW-I stayed in the States.)
National Socialism does not exist as a meaningful phenomenon. But, there’s a pretty good case, in my opinion, we live under a Fascism Lite, governance by a constellation of corporate “estates”, their nominees in Congress, media, and so on, with the Constitution existing as a mostly empty, token legacy document referred to occasionally for its retro cool factor.

The Old Left was already dead in the late 1950s. The Soviet Union ceased to be a Bolshevik evil empire when Khrushchev denounced Stalin, exiled Rakosi, purged Kaganovich and released Solzhenitsyn. The Democrats ceased to be a socialist party when the Kennedys called for upper bracket tax cuts, attacked the Teamsters, and attacked Eisenhower as insufficiently hawkish on the Cold War (“missile gap”).
60 years ago it was already apparent that the New Left, focusing on issues of race and sex, was the real threat facing American conservatism, not the moribund economic Old Left.
Cold War and tax cuts for billionaires was already an obsolete platform when National Review was founded.
In 1955, any conservative worth his salt should have been pushing for a tightened immigration quota system to block Latin American immigration along with Asian and African immigration, independence for Puerto Rico, and effective strategies to cripple the activist courts and prevent the New Left’s long march through the institutions.
Last I checked, they had 160,000 paid subscribers; The Weekly Standard, 80,000; The American Spectator, 50,000; Commentary, 27,000; The American Conservative about 12,000; Chronicles about 12,000; The New Criterion about 3,000; and Modern Age about 3,000.
I don’t think that datum’s going to advance your argument.
They claim to have about 160k subscribers, which wouldn’t even come close to paying their bills. They conduct three fundraising drives a year which seem to bring in significant revenue. I’m guessing there is a group of 50 or so large donors that are keeping the thing going.
Williamson’s a rude man and Lowry’s stewardship of National Review has been a failure (see, for example, his failure to recruit anyone more engaging than Williamson in the last 15 years, even for a per diem contributors’ slot). Now, what’s your alternative?
1. Your list of people who know something of policy evaluation consists of Jason Richwine (who has contributed to NR) and a few people at von Mises scattered in and amongst the theorists and publicists (and cranks).
2. Your crew of elected officials consists of … well, no one. Ron Paul had a little caucus in Congress. It had seven members, most of whom would not endorse his Presidential campaigns.
3. Your rank and file (to judge by these forums) is chock-a-block with people distracted by stupid and vicious resentments (contra Jews, who are fancied to have the mutant superpower to trick and con everyone and dominate societies with tiny numbers; and contra blacks, the vast bulk of whom are ordinary wage-earners just getting by).
Your rant is a bit confused and confusing, but if I understood it correctly, you seem to be one of those Europeans who entertains the bizarre notion that the EU is some sort of ‘counterweight’ to the US Govt. And you, like so many of those pitiable individuals commenting over at The Guardian’s BTL, are probably forever scratching your head and wondering why the EU then never seems to ‘stand up’ to Washington on any issue of substance.
The reason why is very simple: Washington basically already controls the EU anyway. How? Well, Germany directly controls the EU, and the US controls Germany, so the US, therefore, indirectly controls the EU. And then, of course, you have NATO, the IMF, the Open Society Institute, the Trilateral Commission, and all the rest of our globalist alphabet-soup organizations. Europe has not been sovereign in any meaningful way since 1945 … or did you think that Obama butting his head into the Brexit debate last year and begging for a ‘remain’ vote was all some elaborate exercise in reverse psychology? (And by the way, did that offend your sovereignty sensibilities? And if not, why not? Technically speaking, it shouldn’t be any of Obama’s business what Britain does, or Scotland, etc. Yet I don’t remember hearing any of the Remainers complaining about this.)
I hate to inform you, but there’s nothing at all “quaint” about spheres of influence. As I just explained, pretty much all of Europe is part of Washington’s sphere of influence, along with Japan, S. Korea, and much of Latin America. All in all, I’d say Washington’s sphere of influence dwarfs those of Russia and China put together.
Even if that were true, why would it matter? The EU has long been in the habit of disregarding your national referenda anyway! Just think of the Lisbon Treaty referendum in Ireland, or the recent Dutch referendum on Ukrainian visa-free travel.
Putin has competition there, with the US State Dept. helping to overthrow the previous government. Imagine if, say, the Russians had done that in Canada or Mexico. Do you really think the US Govt. would have sat back and done absolutely nothing?
The logic’s pretty convoluted here, but I suppose that if you really believed all that, you would be working to reduce and control immigration, so as to prevent the rise of the anti-immigrant parties. Likewise, if you really wanted to weaken the anti-EU parties, you would be working to make the EU a more democratic organization, rather than one which routinely bankrupts its own member-states, overrides their national referenda, and flagrantly disregards its own treaties and bylaws (as occurred, for example, during the ‘refugee’ fracas, when Merkel simply ignored the Dublin Treaty on immigration, which Hungary was trying to uphold).
Be that as it may, Michael, we in the alt-Right are not your real enemies. Even if we had any real control over Washington’s policies — and we certainly don’t — we really wouldn’t care much at all about how Europe ruled (or misruled) itself. No, your real enemies dwell in Brussels, Washington, and New York; not here at Unz.com. We’re just a bunch of commenters who happen to think your opinions are silly and ill-informed. I’ve read a little by Charles Murray and I don’t get the impression that he believes the left side is getting what it deserves in a moral sense rather than in an economic sense. He at least offers up a possible solution for some left side problems with his UBI plan. Hardly any other writers in the field offer up any practical solutions to the problems faced by the left side. The extent to which the left side is “responsible” for their problems is open for debate. He certainly doesn’t blame them for being caught in the cross-hairs of devastating effects of the modern economy.
I wonder if any of the donors ever look at the 990. They sure bring in a lot of more money than they spend most years. Interesting that they made that tax conversion to get $1 million in salaries moved over to the NR Institute so the donors can take a tax deduction for subsidizing it.

Pretty much every magazine which trafficks in opinion, book reviews, and discussion of public affairs and literature generally has been a part of the philanthropic sector for at least a generation now. The one exception I can think of is The New York Review of Books. Saturday Review (d. 1986) ceased to be profitable ca. 1970. Harper’s I think ran deficits from about 1976 or thereabouts if not earlier and was then taken over by the MacArthur Foundation. The Atlantic I think ceased to be commercially viable about 20 years ago if not earlier. The New Republic and National Review were never not on someone’s patronage. NR likely has a more diversified run of donors than The New Republic ever did. TNR’s deficits were financed by a single patron from 1914 to 2001.

Every once in a while you encounter a scandal like this in the philanthropic sector. It’s not anywhere near the scale of the looting Fortune 500 CEO’s and their camarillas engage in, but it’s gross nevertheless. The man who ran FreedomWorks (a fellow named Kibbe) was paying himself a package of over $400,000 a year. The fellow who ran Catholic Answers (which employs fewer than 20 people) was paying himself a package of $250,000 a year. Once upon a time, the man who was president of Hillsdale College (which has a student body of < 2,000) was courtesy his chums on the trustees receiving just north of $1,000,000 a year and providing employment for several of his relatives. David Frum was for six years paid $100,000 a year to do flat nothing at AEI.
The annual compensation for physicians averages about $230,000. I think what's typical for the President of an incorporated commercial enterprise is about $200,000. While Karl Keating was siphoning off $250,000 a year from the donors of Catholic Answers, the man who ran EWTN was earning $150,000 and managing 10x the staff.
Yes, identity politics are a distraction, it’s the political equivalent of sugar, it gets you high but eventually ruins you.
It also answers the question why is Silicon Valley, Wall Street and the bankers all of a sudden are supporting identity politics? Because it’s a counter to populism and economic awareness.
This keeps people from noticing their politicians are all owned by wealthy special interests who don’t give a shit about the people and it fact plan to reduce most to serfs in the name of profit. No one ever talks about why Wall Street gets a multitrillion dollar bail out for what amounted to was a scam concocted by the bankers and real-estate moguls and bond ratings agencies. Yet no one ever went to jail over this.
It distracts the young why they can’t file for bankruptcy after graduating with a worthless college degree that they paid $150k for.

There is a Beltway Pimp Tank called the “Galen Institute” run by a woman named Grace-Marie Turner. From the 501c the “Institute” appears to be a 3 person shop run out of dumpy walk-up in Old Town Alexandria.
It’s funded by Big Health Care. Turner pays herself $353K to stooge for her benefactors. The “Institute” also pays Turner’s account husband $45,000 to keep the books.
And that’s just an example.

Well, we obviously disagree so no need for us to go round and round.
He’s a scholar, and a sound one as far as I can see, and he is one of the few studying the forbidden and tough topics. I don’t agree with everything he writes, but his laying bare of the facts of cognitive stratification and the collapse of community institutions in the US is something that must be addressed if we are to have any sort of recovery.
There will be no insurrection, but it is not impossible that some sort of political action could address our social and economic problems. Such action would have to be grounded in facts such as those provided by scholars like Murray. UBI is not being pushed by the elites, at least not by any who think about how to pay for it.
As far as his changing his position on immigration, I see it as commendable. I did the same a few years back. Not everyone is born with the “correct” political positions in place.

I see the President of Brookings is receiving $760,000 a year and the President of AEI is now over $1,000,000. The President of Heritage (a lapsed politician) is receiving over $1,000,000. That of the Hudson Institute is receiving $445,000; that of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, $285,000; that of the Discovery Institute, $144,000.

The problem with the QE ‘stimulus’ in both cases is that virtually all the money ended up going to the very banks that caused the crash. Did you get any? Me either. So about the only thing that was stimulated was asset prices.

QE is an asset swap, nothing more, nothing less. In liquidity trap conditions (pardon the Keynesian lingo) like we’ve had since the crisis, monetary policy (which can only affect the opportunity cost of holding money) is useless for boosting AD. Great for propping up Wall St, though!

I have to confess, that I feel kind of bad and sorry for Mr. Polatseck, if this story is indeed true and not a hoax/troll, since he himself was probably molested or sexually abused as child by members of his own community, and this is likely why he is into this type of thing now.
